@@MiTurner247 I am also 5'4", and can't seem to get below 160. My body likes to hang at 165, and I have to fight to get below it. I've been at this weight for a year. I've tried eating less, exercising, but so far this seems to be where I'm stuck. I try not to just think about that elusive number on the scale, but it's hard not to! I do think that if I would stay below 900 calories indefinitely and exercise daily it would probably go lower...but life gets in the way. I think you look great, and from that picture, you don't look overweight at all! I go round and round with myself (and I'm sorry, but I subject my family and BP friends to the crazy loop playing in my head). Right now I'm trying the 5:2 to see if that will make a difference. If not....I am going to try to be happy where I am and work to become stronger and more fit, and focus on mainlining the loss. We know how easy it would be to go back up! Congratulations on your success!

I know it is different for everyone... However I was wondering when people started to go out... Not back to work... But just out. The reason I asking is because I was sleeved august 27... Three days ago ..... I have a hair appointment .. Just a wash and blow dry... Should I cancel it or go. I feel pretty good. Just curious when everybody else started to venture out. Alyce

Please Help. I`m a "Diet Junkie"
juliansmom2003 replied to kcg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ack! I seriously feel your frustration, kcg. I have lost about 30 lbs post op (all while starving), and had a fill last week that didn't do anything! I went into support group last night literally scowling because I'm actually pissed at my band that I am doing 150% of the work and it's not doing anything right now! I just want it to do it's job! Are you exercising? Doing cardio on a regular basis? I'd actually check with your nutritionist about doing any kind of diet while banded. I have heard some of these diets can do more harm than good, which is why the results are not typically long-term. Your next fill is 10 days away. Perhaps wait it out to see if the third time really is the charm and if not, you could talk to your surgeon and/or nutrition to get creative on how you can jump start the weight loss again? Please let us know what you decide. Hang in there! -
I'm doing OK! I'm a little tired of Protein drinks, so I think I'm going to order some of the unflavored protein and find other things to drink other than the milky chocolate/vanilla drinks... I'd like a savory choice I think! Maybe I'll get the Soups and just add more protein to it. I'm pleased with my weight loss, but I wish I could tell a difference... none of my clothes really fit any different, but my rings are big on me (and I've worn these rings when I was much skinnier!). I think my face is less swollen looking, but I'm positive that's because I'm off the carbs. The pains in the abdomen are so much better, almost back to normal there! How are you feeling other than the hiccups? How's your recovery going?

From the album: A progression!
Maybe two years ago. Pretty heavy but not quite hitting three hundred mark. This is about my max of what I felt was acceptable for myself. I've always been the big girl and it wasn't a big deal to me at the time... with recent 25 pound weight loss this is semi-accurate of how I'm looking as of 8/14/12 -
New Dad/husband. Scared Straight. Just Got My Surgery Date. Please Help With Advice
rxkid2384 replied to rxkid2384's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thank you guys so much. you're words, advice, and experience really helps me and it means a lot. thank you. i am really excited to see what life will bring with the weight loss. i've been heavy pretty much my entire life. probably starting around 12,13,14 somewhere in there. always husky and overweight with a belly. id say after highschool, college time, i really blew up. about 5 years ago i lost about 80lbs. kept it off for maybe a year. even then though i was still weighing around 265-270lbs. which is still a lot. you know? but back then i watched what i ate plus worked out 7 days a week for 1 year solid. but back then i was living at home, no wife, no kid, and only 1 mediocre job. now i got married have a baby bought a house and work 2 jobs so its like how can i work out??? i mean i know i shouldnt eat crap still but id say lack of exercise is my downfall and the fact that i have no time now. but still like i said there's no excuse for fast food like mcdonalds and chinese and soda and chips and icecream etc :'( -
Now Do You Think It's Time For A Diet?
crosswind posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been roughly a month since I posted a loss. That sort of isn't true, in fact I lost about five pounds and gained them back again and I'm now steady at about 178. My goal weight, when I got surgery, was 155 -- but I would settle for 158 without a problem. I had my surgery fourteen months ago with Dr. Aceves and I have lost 110 pounds. I have lost roughly eighty percent of my excess weight and this is the first month that I haven't seen any change on the scale. I have done this roughly effortlessly, without dieting -- and I had a month in there where I was drinking ALOT of wine -- still posted a loss of about ten pounds. Now I'm not sure what to do. The last twenty are bound to come off more slowly and my body has undergone QUITE a change so it might just be a little "catching up" my body is trying to do. I know I'm still eating under the calories I should need to stay at this weight but my metabolism could have slowed from the year I was giving it so much less to eat. I *really* want to get under 160. Last year it seemed like it was wasn't even a possibility, so I just left it alone. Now...man... I am *so close*. Right now I'm a size ten and even a tight eight. My waist is 27 inches, my hips are 37. I'm not sure if I should do a little more "leaving it alone" to see what happens or if I should really push off those last twenty. My problem is that I'm worried if I do that I'll gain it back and start yoyoing again, which I cannot stand and really can not do again. What do you guys think? Actual diet, or fortitude and patience? -
No Restriction and no help
Dawnana replied to Dawnana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much. I am going to try doing that for my eating habits and see if that helps. My sister even said to go on weight watchers and of course im thinking, FOR YEARS I have spent thousands of dollars on every weight loss program in the world to no avail, which is why I had ths surgery so I could for once and for all not have to do that. Here I am several months later looking the same. I am just hoping this next fill is the one. -
I joined the losers bench!
hmm33502 replied to AshleyinOnederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My biggest suggestion is don't weigh for a month! Most of the people I have known have stalled about 1 week in and then dropped significantly about 1 month out! Don't focus on losing, focus on healing! Drink lots of liquids and walk as much as you can! I am 3 weeks out and it has been a breeze. I'm back to working out (just walking right now, but running soon!) and getting plenty of fluids. I feel great and my clothes are fitting just wonderfully! My big loss in my signature is from being banded previously. I had my revision on 12/28. Good luck! SW:327 CW:239 GW:155 Heather in Texas -
Here is my Vitamin regiment per day as prescribed by my doctor: 1 Bariatric Advantage chewable in morning (huge, nasty taste...ruins the taste of my highly cherished food bites) 2 Calcium chewies (these are fine...I can handle these the rest of my life) 1 Iron tablet at lunch (very small, so I can handle it) 2 calcium chewies 1 Bariatric Advatange chewable in evening (did I mention how nasty these are?) After 1 month I will have to start doing the B12 tablets or get an injection. I am just having a very hard time with the big Vitamins. I think that is the hardest thing for me right now. They seem to be getting harder for me to take than easier. Last night it almost made me gag as soon as I put it in my mouth. I have heard people taking Flinstones, but I don't guess they have the Biotin for hair loss. Anybody have other good options? Will I be able to move to a swallow vitamin later? I honestly don't see myself taking this particular vitamin the rest of my life. I even ordered the vitamins from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and they were even bigger and worse!

FloraBama Girl replied to FloraBama Girl's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Why did you want to revise from sleeve to bypass? I had horrible reflux and unsatisfactory weight loss. I had taken the medicine to reduce acid for so long I was having side effects from it. I have not had one episode of reflux since my surgery. Thank you Dr. Illan. -
Did you have surgery with the doctor knowing you thought you might have candidiasis systemic enough to cause you to alter your diet? I was told if you are thought to have any ongoing Candidiasis it had to be treated first. The "shock" of surgery can allow candidiasis to spread rapidly, especially if the surgery cause an infection that required antibiotics. If you think you have candidiasis please make sure to go to a doctor and have cultures done on the spots where you think you have it. You need to know for sure, because other serious problems are similar. Sorry its just that your post caught my eye. I had a friend thst nearly died to to mistreatment. They kept giving her antibiotics abroad. It was horrible. Talk about weight loss! She went from 5'1' 130 lbs to 72 lbs before she got any real help.

Loose skin after surgery
Jachut replied to jenrobbar951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's really no way to tell. I think I got off lightly, and I've had 3 babies to boot, here's my stomach: I'd honestly say in all my years here, I've been one of the luckiest ones I know of (of those that share their pics, or talk about their skin!) I despair over my tummy periodically, I'll stand in the mirror, poking, pulling, planning tummy tucks etc but in reality I figure I'm 42 and nobody's forcing me into a bikini on the beach. I can always just not show it. I lost slowly and i did a lot of exercise - primarily running. I also had the foresight and good sense to choose parents that gave me good genes, and I think I chose pretty well in deciding to be 5ft 10 tall and basically well proportioned. When I got fat, I think I was sensible in deciding to carry it evently and not all on my stomach. I'm being silly of course. None of us have control over the factors that deterimine what our skin will do and very few of us will end up with the kind of skin we'd dream of - in reality we're ALL going to harbour some signs of having been fat enough for weight loss surgery. BUT - the only think I'd swap my life now for is to have never ever have gotten fat in the first place. My stomach wasnt worth showing BEFORE I had my surgery so is it really relevant whether it is after? -
Loose skin after surgery
canary1 replied to jenrobbar951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just wondering how many of you have had problems with loose skin, or with your skin not being so resilient. I was told that because of my age, as long as I work out, my skin SHOULD bounce back.....just wanted to hear everyone elses experience on the subject. I agree: Your age, the slowness with which you lose, and the fact that you will exercise will stand you in good stead. I lost about a lb a week while I was losing. That felt slow. I walked 5 miles a day in addition to shorter walks with my dog. I also "ran" stairs -- about 1000 every other day. I put "ran" in quotes since mostly I dragged myself up them. But it worked and it's much easier now. I do think that exercise is a main key to the whole success of your process. You can't fight your mom's argument so don't try. If you have the money to live your own life, just do it. Ignore everyone else's nay saying. In fact, I'd stop talking about it. Use this and other sites for your support. People here understand. Besides, there's a lot more to your life than this operation and weight loss process. Talk about the other things. Best to you. -
My Scale Won't Move, Help!
MacMadame replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two weeks is about right for the 3 week stall. I actually know people whose entire weight loss went in two week chunks. They'd lose for two weeks, then stall for two week and repeat. That would have driven me crazy! Whenever mine slowed down, I would look at my logs and there would always be something in there I could improve... drink more Water, consume more Protein, exercise more ... so I'd do that and it would pick back up again. -
I am at the VERY beginning of my journey
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Nerdyscared1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Nerdyscared1, welcome to you. The prospect of weight-loss surgery, any surgery, in fact, is nervous-making. There's no way around it, so it's just part of the package. You have a lot going on there and there are ways that you can get some help and support. I'll just toss a few ideas out in brief. Find out at the seminar about the practice's support groups. They are for people who are pre- as well as post-surgery. Usually a monthly event, they are great for sharing information and experiences and for company. I was fortunate to make a good, personal friendship in the process. Other practices in your area probably welcome outside patients to their groups., too. Respite care. You should be able to find this either through a non-profit human and social services organization or the city, county or state health dept or dept of social services. Usually it means day activities for the disabled person so that the caretaker can have a break for other things. It may also involve someone coming in to the home to look after the disabled person. The latter can alternately come under the heading of home health care, in which a health aide comes in a pre-determined number of hours per week to provide personal care for the person, some basic cooking, grocery shopping, laundry. It may vary by agency. Therapy may be something to consider for yourself. I'd prefer that I'm misreading between the lines, but a number of things you've written suggest it. Take a class in something that interests you or identify another activity that is interesting and would put you in with people. You're saying that you have to stop smoking strikes a chord. Who wrote "The Book of Have to" and "The Book of Should?" I think that if we switch to "want to," the task is so much less daunting. Wanting to is a choice, while having to feels imposed by an outside force. Not that I always succeed at it, but I try to operate under "wanting to" and, when I get my mind there, I do much better. As an aside, my late, beloved internist, a brilliant clinician and communicator, told me that, if losing weight and quitting cigarettes were too much to take on at once, it was more important first to stop smoking. -
:tongue:Well my daughter came back from Mexico last night after surgery with Dr. Ortiz, thank God she is home safe. Even though I am the one who told her about him I still had my reservations. But after her insurance denied her for a no weight loss surgery clause that her employer had put in, she really didn't have a choice. She said all went well they picked her up in San Diego drove her to the hotel. Next day took her to Dr. Oritz had surgery stayed overnight, back to hotel for one day and they drove her back to airport. I only hope all goes well with no post-op complications since he is so far away. My surgeon Dr. Michael Nusbaum (Livingston NJ) will do fills for her and he is fantastic. She probably saved over $11,000 by going to Mexico. Well I mean I saved over $11,000. Now her fun begins!

Now that we are talking about odd things after surgery...At about the one month mark my hair started falling out in handfuls! I have waist length thick curly hair and was mortified. My surgeon laughed and said that was how he knew I was losing weight but it freaked me out. He gave me vitamin injections for one week then I had to cut it into a bob. After that I was put on low estrogen and it has seemed to stop and is growing back. I just hadn't heard anyone talk about this is all.

Hi everyone. I had my sleeve on 03/01/2012. My HW was 228, SW was 209, and my current weight is 155. The weight is falling off and I feel fantastic. I love my sleeve. I have no hunger. because of that I don't eat like I should I was maintaining around 300 to 400 calories per day but now I am swimming and jogging daily I am constantly showing negative calorie count for the day on myfitnesspal. I weigh and measure so yes I am sure the numbers are right. I don't want to eat so much my weight loss slows but I think it would come off faster and be healthier to eat more. I just don't want to get in the habit of eating if I am not hungry. Is anyone else dealing with this? Please don't think I am complaining. I am super happy with my progress.

Thats great! Ive recently added a meal to try to up m y calories a little, and Ive started using the elliptical at the gym instead of just the TM and bike, hoping to shake it up again. I think youre doing great! I love when people post about their losses, it helps the rest of us that are still fairly new to have some hope -
I am disabled so have not been able to exercise yet. For those of you that do exercise, how is your loss compared to when you cant or dont?

Knowing When You Have Had Enough
Wheetsin replied to phatdivabbw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finding that hair's line between "enough" and "ouch" is an ongoing game. Sometimes "ouch" is bite #2, sometimes bite #20. Fortunatey I have different degrees of ouch, and ouch hits quickly (before I can grab another bite). I had a nice soft stop for the first few weeks but that seems to have stopped... dang it. -
Pain in butt (literally!)...help
BetsyB replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really common for there to be pain in the coccygeal region after weight loss---it really is due to less padding. It's not common for pilonidal cysts to return, but it happens, sometimes, if the original excision wasn't complete. But when this happens, it's very, very evident. And it sounds like you had a very thorough excision the first go-around. Since your doctor hasn't found any evidence of a problem, I'd chalk it up to losing your "cushion." And I'd try to ensure that you have some cushioning when you sit. -
Can't quite figure this out.
coloradobanding replied to Just-Ice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our bodies and these bands are unusual things, let me tell you! I have been working out like a fiend since January, and monitoring my diet closely (still eat no-no's every once in a while). But I mean like HEAVY workouts! 40mins of extreme cardio, then I do 15-20 mins on the rowing machine, then weights, abs, then swim laps for 20-25mins. I do this religiously 4X a week and have since Jan. 1st. The scale has gone up and down 4lbs both ways, but as of today, I am EXACTLY the same weight as I was January first. For those that plateau for a week or two, consider my sad situation..lol. I STILL keep doing just what I've been doing because I know my body will eventually "figure it out." I have not lost significant inches either and have kept track of that since day 1. What I did lose is MAJOR body fat My BMI has gone down by over 4pts since January first! My clothes fit looser (which I don't understand since no significant inches lost) and I feel STRONG and my body is noticeably more muscular. However, that DAM scale messes with my head daily!! Bottom line is, this process and our bodies act and react in unusual ways...just keep doing what you're suppose to, and eventually (I say this at 10 weeks waiting) it will give us the visual results we SO desire!! Congrats on your weight loss!!
