    Fatigue 6 weeks post op

You're not alone. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and sleep 10 hours a night. I'm exhausted. I take my Vitamins, too, and I aim for 800 calories a day. I struggle to get my Protein and Water in. I get in the bare minimum. I know I need more calories and hydration because I've started walking an hour a day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Lower left belly pain

I’m definitely experiencing the same pain. I am 10 Days post op from gastric bypass. I had my post op appointment this past Monday. I explained to my doctor the pain. He did advise me at that time that he did all of the major work on that side. I told him that the pain increases when I’m trying to drink protein shakes. He advised me to take my time and as my stomach heals things will get better. Unfortunately, my doctor doesn’t believe in sending you home with pain meds. Tylenol doesn’t help me at all. I normally have to lay down for awhile. I told my mom I want to lose weight but I didn’t want to lose it like this (not eating). The only thing I can get down is water and maybe a cup of broth. Tried some soup today and I thought I was going to died from the pain. I hope your doctor can shed some light to your pain!!

    Swimming

My surgeon said I could swim after 10 days - providing the incisions weren't sore or inflamed. I started swimming on day 11 and it's been great and seems to have helped the scars healing too. I agree with comments on pool swimming vs lake swimming. I also make sure I keep the scar sites well moisturised so they stay supple.

    Hello everyone. New to forum

Hi Kate, I am on day 4 post op and still on clear liquid. My surgeon instructed me to stay on clear liquid for a minimum of 10 days.
  5. I am struggling big time with trying to get down any liquids and food. I stay so nauseated it’s ridiculous. The thought of food makes me sick. I can’t even eat jello anymore it’s like my taste buds are on strike. I sip tiny amounts of liquid and sometimes gag. Seems like the only food I can tolerate on occasion are my refried beans, peanut butter on crisp toast otherwise I don’t eat because of the sickness. Geez Louise I’ve had more issues with this surgery than a little bit and I’m 19 days post-op. Anyone else have/had this issue?
  6. I really couldn't answer that because I was on 10 days of clear liquid and 10 days of full liquid then 10 days of mushy food. So, basically, at your stage, I was still on liquids. Dr. aceves feels strongly that the staple line needs to be protected, and putting food against it is dangerous. That may be why he has never had a leak.
  7. Experiment with temperatures. I can't drink anything unless is super, super, cold. If it's hot, warm or lukewarm, I can't do it. It makes me feel ugghgh. (yes, The only way I can describe the feeling is with ugh) With real foods I can tolerate more of a variety of temperatures, but I can't do leftovers. It's been a lot of trial and error with my foods, I've thrown up more in the past three-four weeks than I have in the past 10 years. It's not pleasant. I'm about 7 weeks out, and much better than I was the first couple weeks.
  8. I had mine on 1/18/16, lost 20lbs in the first 10 days, then gained back 6 and have stalled. I'm encouraged that at least I'm not the only one who has stalled, but the weight gain is what has me worried. Guess we'll have to have patience and wait it out, which is always fun...

    Post-Op Day 10

permalink Im day 10 post-op, feeling great... im on the thick liquids portion of the post-op diet til thur, then I get to start cream of wheat and stuff like that. I can have creamed soups that have been strained, and have been living off of cream of potato and cream of chick soup and my protein drinks. I did get out with my fiance for a 1.5 mile walk... over did it totally, had to rush home for an emergency bathroom visit! I think this is about the point where the free ride of losing weight without exercise is over for me, gotta get my tail moving. I took 6 weeks off from work, so my only job is to make sure I do the maximum I can to get the best results before going back to work. Everyone knows I have had this procedure, so I am sure they will be evaluating my success (you know how women are!). Have my follow up tomorro afternoon, so looking forward to getting released to get back to my aqua-aerobics classes!!!!
  10. It was pretty quick and they had me drink barium and did an xray to see the restriction. They said it looks great. I have 2.7cc in my 10 cc band. I have to do liquids for two days than one day of mushies. I get to go back in 2-4 weeks for fill #2. So far, so good.
  11. I did not have to be b a diet prior to rather surgery. However,I did need a letter from my gyno showing my weight history for the past. 5 years. In addition, I had to write down all my weight loss attempts, and there was plenty to write. I also was on a supervised hospital weight loss program three time in my life which was documented since the hospital, paid for part it. With all that said..I was approved within 2 months after my first appt with the dr. I did lose 10 pounds prior to surgery:) ...
  12. I'm starting to get really frustrated about this surgery. During the pre-op phase, I lost 23 pounds, and the first three days after surgery, I dropped another 10. Since that point, I have either stayed the same or gained weight every single day. My fiance had the same surgery a week prior to me, and she is dealing with the same thing. I just don't get it. In diets of the past, if I had eaten this amount of food, I would have been dropping 5-10 pounds a week...but after the band, it's nothing. I was expecting rapid weight loss (and was pretty much guaranteed this by my Doctor, as long as I followed the guidelines, which I have), but at this point, I'm starving myself and eating foods that disgust me (protein shakes) for nothing. Has anyone else had these problems after the surgery? I understand the argument about swelling, but if that was the case, I would have gained in the days following surgery. I also understand plateau's, but this has been going on for 12 days now. I weigh almost 400 pounds and am surviving on less than 1000 calories a day...it's ridiculous.
  13. at the age of 19, (which was 22 years ago), I was 328 lbs, and I got the gastric bypass surgey. I was successful at loosing 80 lbs, but then started putting back on weight and I've been stuck at 275 for years and years. I continue to have issues with reflux and it's not consistent. I'm wondering if this new surgery is a different venue for me that might work better. I'm really considering my options as I've never been at an ideal weight. diets after diets just haven't worked. anyone have advice as I ponder this decision?

    Recovery Time?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the input. I think I'll probably be feeling much more up to singing on Christmas Eve ... maybe not the Sunday before, so we'll see what happens with that. I've never had surgery, so I'm not sure how my body will react, but for some reason I feel pretty confident. I guess I'll find out December 19 All my pre-op tests came back with really good numbers, so I'm hoping my good health (besides obesity, of course) will help me out with my recovery.

    little one

At 4 ft 10 inches and wt of 186 puts her at 38.7 BMI so she might slide by especially if she has comorbidities.
  16. well i had my surgery on monday 8-18 and today is friday 8-22 and i am back to work. this was my surgery experience... i went friday for pre-op testing they did a chest x ray, ekg, bloodwork, and i met with the anesthesiolist. it took about 2 hours. i did only clear liquids till sunday night. i went to bed at 9:00 pm and was up at 5:30 to get to the hospital by 6:30. wehn i got ther they put me in a recovery room until 10 i was given a shot for nausea and 2 pills. they took me down to surgery at 10 and started an IV then i went to sleep! i woke and everyone was telling me i made it and to breathe!! i was hot and sweaty but they took off my warming blanket i also felt like crying i was told its the aneshtesia. they wheeled my up to my room and i had to PEE so i got that out of the way! then i layed in the bed for about an hour eating ice chips. i had made friends with a girl who was being banded the same day so i walked to her room and we ate popsicles. then i got some more pain meds and had to go lay down! they came and got me for the barium swallow (tastes nasty) then i layed down until my doc could come visit! i left the hospital at 5:30. the drive home made me VERY nausous and when i got home i took 2 gas x's and went straight to sleep. i woke up at nine and think i had a PB. i was having pain in my chest so i leaned over the sink afraid i was going to vomit but i burped really loud and leaned over again and thought i was going to burp again but it was liquid and the shell of the gas x. it didnt hurt and wasnt like a vomit. i am still sore and eating only broth, protein drinks, jello and water. still taking the gas x. my incisions look good no drainage or bleeding. i have been sleeping on my back and a little on my side. i have been weening myself off the pain meds but i am sure i will finish the bottle i was given. i am so grateful i have been banded and i am glad to say i havent been too hungry. this morning my tummy was growling but i drank a shake and it is satisfied! so thats how it went! 325/318/175 i wont weigh until 9-9 so i dont know what i really weigh!

    Have you ever just felt.......

Today I felt so sick just looking at myself in the mirror. I have been wondering lately how did I get to this size and how would it be if I were to lose the weight. I have watched my mother and sister go through getting the band and it has seemed to work so wonderful for them. I guess I'm just tired of waiting and so ready to get my life back. I am ready to get back out with some of my old classmates and play ball or to go to the park and run around with my daughter without having to take mutiple 10 min breaks. I guess this year should be the year to look forward to many changes and hoping to re-gain the old sexy teddy bear I use to be.
  18. I plan on it. I'm still on the post-op diet levels so it'll start getting easier this next week. I can now add beans/legumes and seafood. Tonight DH and DD had chopped BBQ chicken sandwiches and squash while I had 1/2 of an individual Trader Joe's Mexican Quiche. Tomorrow night we're planning salmon filets and I can't wait! Snowbird, question for you! I saw that you had a Brat at the BBQ. How does your stomach handle that? We have an Oktoberfest dinner at church (German Lutheran!) on 10/4 and I'll be coming off of my post-op diet that week. By then I'll be eating all foods. I'm nervous about the brats. Hot German Potato salad might be okay, tho it has vinegar in it and the Red Cabbage might give me some problems but I was really curious about the brats. I only get them once a year (at this dinner) so it's kind of a treat. Thanks.
  19. i found the yummiest sausage dogs. johnsonville turkey sausage with cheese in the middle. The calories is only 80 per link, i can only eat half, its the size of a hot dog. and protien around 8 grams not the best but i usually have it with my scrambled better than eggs in the morning which add an addlt 10, carbs is only 3g and fat 2g per link. not bad and they are so delic.
  20. I have not had luck with maderma, but my son got bit by a dog in the face few years ago he was 10 and he has no visible scars at all. Now when I used it, did nothing for me. Not sure if because of my age or what. And the stuff isn't cheap Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I had surgery on Tuesday and I went back to work on Thursday. I only went half a day but it was not that bad. I had surgery in Dallas at 10 am and rode home (2 hours) at 1 pm. I took pain meds that evening to help me get to sleep and then again a 8 pm the next night, so I took 2 doses after I left the hospital, I felt like I had gone to the gym worked out too hard. By Monday I was not even sore.

    Anyone post-op with GERD?

I actually lived with pre-op GERD (silent reflux) mis-diagnosed as asthma for 10 years prior to surgery. Mine presents as chronic coughing rather than heartburn and is worse at night. They started me on Omeprazole right after my EGD and it made a big difference. For the first month post-op, it was worse. Bad enough that I had to raise the head of my bed with a couple of 6" lifts and double my Omeprazole to twice per day. However, once my stomach healed and the weight began to come off things got MUCH better. I was able to flatten my bed again and now, at 9 months out, only have a single night time does of Omeprazole. I'm hoping to be off of it all together in time.

    Anyone post-op with GERD?

Same with me - pre-op I had GERD that presented as a chronic cough but never as heartburn. I had a cough for about 10 years. I was told many times it was allergies. My surgeon informed me I'd had acid for years and had built up scar tissue which he removed. Now I have full on heartburn but the cough is gone. I keep it in check with omeprazole 2X per day. If I miss a dose or 2 I can tell because I get heartburn that wakes me up at night and I don't want to eat. I am six months out of surgery. I had an upper GI recently and a biopsy to check for Barretts. I don't have Barretts but still have acid, on the mild end of the scale (it does not feel mild to me!) and a bit of gastritis. I also have gallstones, I would almost bet I had some gallstones presurgery. Otherwise - clean bill of health. I had my surgery in Mexico.
  24. I really like the tank top style spandex.... that scoops below the bra. Have the Secret Solutions ones from Woman Within. I see they have another style there too that is $10 less by Comfort Choice. Anyhow, it works great for the muffin top AND it makes the girls stand out a little more. The Secret Solutions one goes down to where the leg joins the hip, so pretty far - and it doesn't leave a line either.
