    5:30am tomorrow

Sleeve Sisters!! Happy Sleeve Eve to you! My surgery is at 10:30am. When you're getting your IV in, ask them to give you a scope patch. It's an anti-nausea patch they give to people with nausea/dizziness/vertigo and they can put it on you before surgery so you're not sick when you wake up. Good luck!!

This Is Almost A Deal Breaker!

I have had a catheter at least 10 times for past surgeries. It has never hurt to have it taken out. If you're having this much anxiety about a catheter, perhaps you should speak directly to your surgeon prior to the day of surgery. It has been my experience in the past (for the countless tests, procedures and surgeries I have had, that the fear of the unknown can be worse than the actual procedure. An example I can give you that I experienced was the extreme anxiety I felt over having my mamogram for the first time. I heard so many horror stories about how painful it is and that they squish the breast down to a flat pancake. I equated it to having your private parts being run over by a mack truck. I put off having this important test for 2 years out of fear. The day of my mamogram, I had an anxiety attack and ended up sobbing and crying out of fear. Let me tell you--do I feel stupid! It was NOTHING! No pain, the technician was gentle and respectful and when it was over, I laughed about it with her telling her about the intense fear I had. Thankfully, everything is completely normal and I have no problem getting one yearly. M'Lane

Calories, diabetes, and a clueless doc

I think you are correct re the diabetes information. I would guess your numbers may increase some as you have some carbs once you are months out but I would guess not to the point of going back on meds. I was at 300-400 calories the first month and worked up to 500-600 and stayed at that level until month 6. Then I was only 10 pounds form my goal and worried about losing too quickly (I know that sounds insane right!!) so I purposely increased calories about 100/week to hit around 1000. I worked up towards 1200-1400 around the 10 month mark and now at almost 2 years am around 1500/1600 to maintain. Honestly that seems a little high compared to what others on here say but it keeps me at my comfortable weight. According to the BMi chart I could lose another 10 pounds but I feel like it would make me look too thin and bony ( also crazy to think that would ever be a thought re. my body). If I see my weight trending up 2-3 then I set a goal of 1200 (but usually log around 1300-1400) and that will get me down those 2 pounds within 1-2 weeks. I do think that wont be as easy in another 6-12 months as I am out of the honeymoon phase so I keep logging food/calories religiously. If I see I am low on protein its just a matter of fact thinking ok go get a piece of cheese or drink a glass of milk vs old me would get crackers or chips at the end of the day.

  5. Down 10 lbs 1 week post op! I'm struggling getting in my Protein and liquids but I'm up and about and peeing so it can't be so bad. Today I ate like a tablespoon of mashed potatoes but it started hurting so I stopped. I know I'm not supposed to have them for another week but ooooh they smelled so good.
  6. My surgery was February 19 2014 and I have been at a 3 week stall, before that always losing. How do you break a stall?
  7. Hi everyone, I had my surgery july 16th and lost alot of weight right away. I started at 293 and and by my 1 week checkup i was 276. Throughout the first month I went up and down between 283 and 276. At my first tightening I still weighed 276. I was bummed but my surgeon was very happy. The first 3 days after my tightening i lost 10 lbs bringing me down to 266. I was thrilled. But the day i started mushies the numbers started climbing and a week after my tightening i am back at 275. Is this normal? Does anyone also feel like as long as they eat they dont lose weight? i feel like no matter what i eat, whether healthy or not i dont lose weight. Has anyone found a way to get in control of when they lose the weight? Is going on a permanent liquid diet going to help? How about incorporating exercise? Please help! I have a trip to go see my boyfriend whos in the army and would love to do everything i can to lose weight until then.

    No restriction

Hi , I'm 9 days out and feel no restriction, eaten 1100 cal so far today and still hungry , all puréed foods. I'm extremely upset , waited 10 mths for this to have a chance to be normal and now feel like I've failed again!!
  9. I just had my base weight weigh in and my first appointment with the LPN is in October. But I have all my appointments set and ready to go. Actually will be done with them before I visit with the LPN for the first time! Just started the south beach diet. My dr wants me down 5% before surgery. That is a requirement for all his patients. I would love to be down 10%. I'm on day 2 of the first phase and it's tough! It's getting better! I have a friend who did it and met another woman locally. I'm excited... Not nervous yet... Looking forward to a new and improved me!! Anyone local just starting out?

    Mash foods

Don't eat more than 100 carbs a day. You should be getting anywhere from 65 to 76 grams of protein. They protein drinks are where I get most of my protein. Food alone would never give me enough. I am on the Isopure Zero Carbs protein powder. If you go to Puritan's Pride website, they are the cheapest. If you call them by phone, and ask for a discount, they will give you more of a discount than the internet will. The 3 lb protein powders are $44.99 a piece. The girl over the phone gave me $15 off that and when I ordered a 2nd one, she gave me $10 off of that one. Can't beat that!!!!!!!!!
  11. I can not imagine going right home after recovery - the follow up care while overnighting in hospital was terrific - they wouldn't discharge you until you drank a combination of 70 1 oz thimbles of water of water apple juice combo - they would put 10 in front of you (they called them your cocktails and encouraged slow drinking, once finished brough 10 more and again, take your time was the message - it was so easy to do it this way, had to sleep on a bet that was angle so you would keep pushing yourself up to get comfortable, this forced excercise with motion of legs and helped with the gas pain, the breathing machine exercise, the walks every 1hr to 90 minutes all thorugh the night - pain meds and even popsicles - no tingling at home - been home for about 9 hours now, still doing pain med, but am feeling a bit sore on the belly - but, not pain - so glad I got to stay in hospital - lot of work, but at same time feel rested and off to a good start with follow up care. 12. For me i am blessed with insurance that does not make you have a waiting period!! Whew! My requirements are BMI of 40 or BMI of 35 with other health problems. I suffer from severe hypertension even with medications. I just have to have a nutrition consult and a psych consult and an EGD. I am scheduled for the 27th for the two consults and my doc said he would preform the EGD the next week. He said it all is good i can be scheduled for the end of OCT but i want to wait until after Halloween due to a pre planned trip. I am just scared i am going to have this procedure and lose like 10 pounds!! I know i am just being crazy but I am just so tired of living in this body!!
  13. Sleeved 12-19-16! 3 night stay, I had complications! Lots of vomiting from the meds, couldn't do the swallow test because of the vomiting, that is why I had to stay. Most of my pain was from the vomiting. Was off work 6 weeks. Just again because of vomiting. To this day I still have troubles with vomiting. Think I may have a sliding hernia causing the vomiting and severe acid reflux. But I have to wait 6 maths to a year before we can fix it. Dont worry I am one of the few with complications! Other wise I feel great and have losted 56 pounds, and went down 4 sizes. Doctor assures me that I am missing at a healthy rate. I am truly happy and love my sleeve, just not the thing causing the heart burn and vomiting!!

    Simple things

I buy the sugar free jello and pudding cups and they taste fine. The jello has 10 calories and the pudding has 60 calories. That is very do-able for me for a little sweetie.

    Anybody on Atkins?

The Atkins diet is now usually referred to as the Keto diet or Ketogenic diet, which I also follow and enjoy. The premise is using your fat as primary source of energy rather than carbs. I think you should absolutely do it and see how your body adapts. As for me, I have lost all hunger pains and do not crave sugar or carbs like I use to even post opp eating my meal plan. I have lost about 10 pounds this month so far, (first 20 days) so I like that as well. The best thing about this diet, is I do believe it can be sustained as a sleever, as you are already 80% there as others have commented. My macros I try and hit are 30 grams net carbs, 75-100 grams Protein, and 100 + grams fat. (I try and stay between 1200-1500 calories per day.)

    I am a Newbie

My surgeon has me one an almost all Protein diet from Physician's Weight Loss. Only about 450 calories. He wanted me to do it for 2 weeks, but 3 weeks if I could. I will have been on it 3 weeks by the date of my surgery. On Monday this week (my 14th day on the diet) he told me that I could eat lean Proteins as long as I did not overdue on calories. I love sushi grade tuna - very rare or raw, so I have had tuna 3 times (4 oz is the same as 2 of 5 daily drinks) and tonight I just had 3 egg whites scrambled. It was true emotional journey the first week of my liquid diet. I went to birthday party on the 5th day and thought I might tackle someone as they walked by with their hamburger and piece of birthday cake. I have had great support from my firends and co-workers. They have a planned, non-food activity almost everynight with one of them, and on Friday we are having a food free "hello to the new me" party - complete with pajamas, great movies and games. Over half of my 10 co-workers also went to all liquid diet (not alcohol - slimfast and such:p ) during work hours, so that has been great as well I have lost 22 pounds in 2.5 weeks. One of my biggest vices has been Dr. Pepper, so I have given up all caffeine and artifical sweetners to try to completely get past my addiction to caffeine including diet drinks. I hope this help, and I know I probably told you way more than you wanted to know. Good luck and best wishes, Mouster:D
  17. Hello everyone, I am 9 days post op and just getting my appetite back. I'm scared. I have to do 10 days liquid :3 days clear and 7 days full. Watery Cream of wheat/oatmeal is on my my approved list. Ive been eating a half cup of cream of wheat, but today I had a protein shake for breakfast, sugar free jello for lunch and now almost a cup of cream of wheat ( 1% milk 2 packs of splenda) for dinner. Is this normal, or too much too soon. I am starting to want food more and Im just a little nervous. Please share!
  18. My date is a few weeks out. I originally had the Lap Band back in 2005 and went from 297lbs at surgery down to the 160's. My husband and I had been married for 4 years at that time and we had our first child who had just turned 10 months old. About 6 months after I had my band put in my husband had his put in. He lost 20 pounds to this day. At this time we are both banded. I'm consistantly in the 220's and he is over 350lbs. He has promised me if I am successful and happy with this surgery he will follow me again and have the sleeve done. We didn't have any problems with me being "successful" with the band and especially with him not being successful. We have since had another baby, so we have two kids under the age of 5 and intead of weight loss, we are much more concerned about the health we have and our ability to provide our babies with a happy and active childhood. He loved me fat, he loved me thin, he loves me fat again. I think if your connection is more than just physical and at a deep enough level then it will last. I'm not a person who goes out, I have my babies at home and I have the rest of my life to go "out" but my babies won't be babies forever. That's just my experience with the weight loss and our relationship. I wish you guys the best.

    New to site with questions

I'm sure that in general it's true that the more one has to lose the faster it comes off. You don't hear of people who only have 70 or so pounds to take off losing 30 in the first month, but people who have 150 or more may indeed lose that quickly in short bursts. But that's just nature at work, and perfectly understandable. As for how much weight "we" lose each month, that's a function of too many variables to say. The desired rate of loss is 4-10 lbs a month.

    Liquid Diet Struggles

I suspect most people go through this, I know I did. There are not a bunch of posts on here raving about their favorite liquid diet! If you need the real food that bad, talk to your surgeon. I did and he let me go to the egg phase at only 10 days post-op. Whatever you do though, do not deviate at this stage unless the surgeon approves. 5 minutes of food is not worth potential complications!
  22. Hi everyone. I had my sleeve on 03/01/2012. My HW was 228, SW was 209, and my current weight is 155. The weight is falling off and I feel fantastic. I love my sleeve. I have no hunger. because of that I don't eat like I should I was maintaining around 300 to 400 calories per day but now I am swimming and jogging daily I am constantly showing negative calorie count for the day on myfitnesspal. I weigh and measure so yes I am sure the numbers are right. I don't want to eat so much my weight loss slows but I think it would come off faster and be healthier to eat more. I just don't want to get in the habit of eating if I am not hungry. Is anyone else dealing with this? Please don't think I am complaining. I am super happy with my progress.
  23. Congratulations and welcome to the club! I was banded on June 15th. Unless you had a fill during surgery (some, but not many I've heard of, do) you will not feel restriction until your band is filled -- and that may take a few fills, depending on your doctor. I have not experienced restriction with liquids. But I must say that this morning I had a Protein Drink before going to work and had planned to eat a piece of fruit for Breakfast, but I do not have the appetite for it now. Too full. I had my 3rd fill this past Friday. I now have 4.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. It is only with this last fill that I am feeling any restriction at all. Keep in mind what we read on this forum all the time: the time right after surgery is for healing, not for losing weight (although you will probably lose some ). You are very lucky to have the single incision. I have 4! All the best to you!

    Eating

I was sleeved 12/16/10 and wasnt able to eat more than 8 bites of spaghetti with lean ground beef tonight. You will learn what is easier to eat as you go along. Chicken is still hard for me as well. Easiest thing for me to eat is food cooked in the crockpot! Its so moist and easy!
