    Constipation 😭😭

Oh yeah the constipation. I swear I never thought about, read about, wrote about, talked about constipation as much as I did for the first years after surgery. You can add some Benefibre to your shake to help with the constipation. Ensure you’re getting in your fluids or are close to your goal. And as @catwoman7 suggested a stool softener or other laxative medication. Start with a gentle one & see how you go. But it’s too be expected that you don’t need to go every day in the first months. You’re not eating a lot & therefore don’t have that much to poop out. Your weight loss is never consistent @Siberian1. If you graph it you’ll notice it goes up & down, zigs & zags, & sometimes is a straight line. This is just how it goes. A lot of factors influence your weight from fluid retention, pooping or not pooping, hormones, drinking a little more or a little less, etc. As long as your general trend is downwards you’re doing okay. If the numbers on the scale are messing with you step away from the scales. Weigh yourself once a week or fortnight or even monthly.

    Friends…

It'll be over before you know it. The early weeks can be a challenge, but it's a drop in the ocean time wise. Just distract yourself with everything you can to get your head off food.
  3. I recommend logging every that you eat, specifically calories. If you do, then what does it look like comparing the two months? When I get frustrated because of weight gain, for example water weight, I am aware that I can easily fall into the old habit of feeling defeated. Now I look at my calorie intake and determine whether it is real or just water weight. It is a way not only to make sure the weight will continue to come off (or maintenance in my case), but also, keep me sane from self-defeating feelings. and actions that usually follow Like if I am eating 1300 calories according to my journal, week to week, and one day I gain 5 lbs., I know there is no way that the 5 lbs. I gained is fat and it must be water weight. So it gives me guidance, accountability and more importantly, peace of mind.
  4. My surgeon had me on liquid diet for two weeks then 2 weeks of Puree and the stages three which I’m on now soft diet until October and then regular diet. And I keep look at these incision like ain’t no way they took my stomach out these little wholes I wish they would of woke me up and showed me! I heard it picks up later I can say I lost some hair which is the wrong thing to be loosing . weight loss surgery not hair loss 🤦‍♀️ I paid money to loose hair lol 😂

Welcome! I am 8 days post op. One day after surgery I stepped on the scale to see I had gained 9 lbs. I knew it was from the IV fluids, but it's not fun to see. One week later I've lost that and more. Hang in there. Did they instruct you on a clear liquid diet in these early days/weeks? I encourage you to talk to your doctor and team. All the best! 😊
  6. So I'm currently creating my grocery list for next week when I land on soft foods, and I was curious when do I get to eat mushrooms? As that's one of my favorite vegetables and I see that they're bariatic safe online but nothing that says when I can eat them. I'm also curious about chicken/turkey wings, as I have an air fryer I figured that'll be an easy way to have a "fried" fixing since I can do up the skin perfectly crisp. Is that okay too at the soft stage?
  7. Hey all, Just wanted to get a heads up out to those who are perimenopausal. I’m 54 yo and I’ve lost almost 70 lbs since I started WLS inquiry. At 3 month check up I was in the middle of a very heavy and unexpected period, feeling lightheaded and sluggish though alert. But 3 weeks of heavy period landed me in ER with very low BP and diagnosis of severe anemia. I’m on the slow boat to regaining healthy blood pressure/volume by taking it easy and iron supplements - though no transfusion. The doctor thought the very quick drop in estrogen (stored in fat cells) may have contributed to the heavy period, resulting in blood loss. If anyone has experienced strange periods (I was basically almost at 1 yr mark for not having period) I’d be interested in your story. Thanks much!

    Constipation 😭😭

Here is a question for everyone who has had this procedure done? I am two weeks out of surgery and I think I’m getting a little paranoid and I’m starting to look at the scale and for the last two days I haven’t seen any weight loss but I will have nothing but liquid diet. Is this normal
  9. You sound so much like me .... LOL I'm 2 months out and I've been stalled for 3 weeks.... ugh. I keep thinking ,hey- as long as I'm not losing or gaining-maybe I can pig out on junk food while my body is deciding what to do.

    Constipation 😭😭

very common problem. For some folks it improves quite a bit after you start eating more fibrous foods again (a few weeks out), but for many of us, it's a chronic issue. I'm eight years out and still take a capful of Miralax every morning to keep on top of it (a lot of us use Miralax (or the generic equivalent), by the way). Others use stool softeners, magnesium, Smooth Move tea, or eat a few prunes every day. Whatever works! PS sounds like you're in the UK. If so, it's called RestoraLAX there

Thank you for your kindness! I didn't have much GERD, but they did do a hiatal hernia repair that I didn't know I had. My dietician said it can take a few weeks to see weight loss, but it's frustrating when I lost 15 lb before surgery and nothing now with barely eating. That's a good suggestion.
  12. Hi All, I'm new here and had my sleeve done in Turkey 3 weeks ago today. Just wondering if anyone can help with really bad constipation and also I hope you are all doing fantastic in your journey. I have lost 1st 2lb and am happy with that still sum back pain and pain around my ribs but other than that I'm keeping well x
  13. Yeah, my incisions were covered in that clear glue-like stuff. They told me not to remove it myself or scrub over it in the shower, just to let it fall off naturally, Took about 3.5 weeks for my incisions to heal on the outside.
  14. I'm in my 3ed week of a stall. It sucks !!!
  15. same as the person above - I was told I could go back to the pool once the incisions were healed and the scabs fell off. Took about four weeks for me.
  16. The only limitation I was given regarding swimming was to wait until my incisions were healed over. If I recall correctly, that was maybe 2ish weeks. Because swimming is so low impact, I don't think most surgeons have limitations on it from an exercise perspective. But, as others will likely advise, always best to check with YOUR surgeon (once you select one) and see what their stance is.
  17. I am actually 3.5 weeks out of surgery today. I have not stalled yet...22.5 pounds down. I don't see how a stall would be possible in my case...I am only eating about 600-800 calories a day, and feeling full. My calorie burn rate for the last week has been around 3600 calories per day with walks according to my fitbit.

    I had to share

Night before surgery and today. Three months and 60lbs apart. Ironically, it's the same PJs, but it really shows the difference in the fit. The pants are definitely getting loose now. They were pretty tight before.

What the h*ll is going on?!?!

re: menstrual cycles. Very common for hormones to go a bit wacko the first few weeks or months after surgery. It'll eventually stabilize again.
  20. I’m really struggling lately with head hunger. I’m about 8.5 months post op from mini bypass and the sickness and nausea has subsided (yay) but the restriction has also eased a lot. I find myself wanting to just eat because it tastes good. I know I’m not hungry but I’m really having a hard time with it and looking for any advice on how people handle it. I’ve gained four pounds in about a week. I know I tend to fluctuate at this point but I’m getting nervous that I’m going to mess it all up.

What an awful experience to be having! It sucks when you get the rarer reactions to things, its no fun being a medical challenge! Have they tried any other nausea medication? They like to go with Zofran because its what they give chemo patients and for some it works REALLY well. Sadly I always get breakthrough nausea with it. Plus it causes awful stomach pain and constipation for some. I find promethazine works better for me alternating with the Zofran and the scopolamine patches are nice too. So if they haven't tried other meds, definitely ask about it, there are lots out there! I also wear those seasick wrist bands. For me it isn't one thing that works so much as a combo of things together. My nausea isn't from surgery but from iron infusions, they make me violently ill for weeks! But needs must. The brain fog is probably from dehydration, lack of actual balanced food and nutrients, and sugar fog from the Sprite. Have they checked your electrolytes? Sometimes when those get unbalanced it can make nausea and brain fog worse. Have you tried those vitamin B lollipops pregnant women use? It might help and will at least get some vitamins in you if you tolerate them. If you are really miserable and have spare cash, I'd find a local acupuncturist to see. Acupuncture has been proven to be effective for chemo nausea so I expect it might work for this too! Good luck with finding something that works! In the meantime keep trying. I know that sounds awful but the more things you try the better the odds are you'll find a few things that will stay down. ❤️

Hello! I’m new to this website from all the research I’ve been doing. My surgery date was July 19, 2023.. tomorrow makes 2 weeks post op! 😊
  23. I agree with you!! I am so paranoid about eating too many calories and so i under eat! I am 3.5 months out of sleeve surgery and I think my body is in starvation mode. I'm going to try to up my calories to 600 and see if that breaks my somewhat stall. i was drinking a protein shake at night but i figured its like 160 calories before bed.....not sure if that is good for me. I drink it in the morning now as breakfast. Then i will have no fat cottage cheese or greek yogurt as a snack a couple hours after dinner.
  24. Hey all, I had my GS done on 6/21/2023, and I feel like I’ve been going through hell ever since. My surgery went great and the healing process went normally. But the weirdness started happening around 3 weeks post surgery. SEVERE nausea and vomiting 3+ times daily. My Dr has me on Zofran which only works sometimes and I’ve been living my day to day barely eating or drinking ANYTHING. My body REJECTS water (tried all different kinds and temperatures of water, along with different flavorings; nada), and it comes right back up. Food stays down a bit easier but even the thought of eating most things makes me gag. I’m prepared for the backlash on the comment I’m about to make but honestly all my body lets me keep down is Sprite and occasionally some cereal. I know I know, I’m supposed to be avoiding sugar and carbonation. But honestly I’d rather get Sprite and cereal down than throw up water and chicken over and over again. My Dr says I’m part of the 10-15% of patients who experience severe nausea weeks after surgery, and that it’s something that goes away on its own.. Has anyone else experienced this?? I’m scheduled to get a CT scan on the 9th of Aug. to see what the heck is going on. I’m almost 50lbs down a little over a month past surgery and to be honest I’m a bit worried I’m losing TOO much weight? (TMI?) But I haven’t gotten my period since the surgery (I’m 20 so my period is usually pretty consistent). Brain fog is real right now!!! I take 30 seconds to process the things people say to me right now and 30 seconds to form coherent sentences. Is this from lack of food? Lack of water? Who knows, but it’s really annoying. This post is all over the place, but I feel the confusion of this post connects perfectly to where my brain is at right now. I have no idea what’s going on, all I know is my stomach hurts and I’m nauseous and I just want this nightmare to end so I can start LIVING. Thanks in advance for reading.
