What you eat on an average day?
bindi2203 replied to AngelWithHorns's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi i am almost 6 months out now. I eat i guess pretty much normal foods. like i did before, just not the same amounts. i pretty well now just eat off a bread and butter plate, and i find most times that satisfys me. For Breakfast i eat things like rolled oats, or poached egg on toast. or it could be friut and yogurt, what ever i feel like. lunch is usually a salad of some discription, and at the moment i am really into ones made with this really nice and easy low fat dressing, It is basically. 1/4 c white vinegar 1/4 cup of equall sugar ( not packed tight) or splenda a few drops of sesame seed oil, no more than 1 tsp total 1/4 c Water 2 tbs soy sauce. pinch of salt and that is it. put it into a shaker, and shake it very well. I also add some small diced fresh chilli, and i love a bit of bite, I tend to chop the vegies very small into it, as though making a salsa. some of the things i add are as follows, just to give you some ideas. 2x fresh truss tomatoes 1/2 avacardo 1/4 spanish onion finely diced 1/2 cobb of fresh corn I shave them off the cobb with a sharp knife. bunch of asian salad greens, or lettuce what ever you like, also chopped good handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped. 1/4 red capsicum 1/4 green capsicum or yellow what every i have on hand 3-4 button mushrooms 1/2 lebanese cucumber diced small i also add a good handfull of mixed sunflower and sesame seeds. just before adding the dressing. I find this goes really well with grilled fish or chicken. or some times i will have it just by itself with some cut up egg or shaved ham for the Protein. I hope you guys enjoy. also i make it up and there is always some left over for the next day. it tastes just as good as left overs. cheers. -
it's weird--my restriction seems to vary by day. Today I feel like I'm getting restriction just from drinking and don't seem to want food at all. Other days, I feel like I can eat 3/4 to a cup of food--mostly lettuce with a little protein on top (more fibrous veggies fill me up more and I can eat about half a cup). I'm about 10.5 weeks out.

HI, I am in New Zealand and it appears we had our surgery same day and I was 125kg:biggrin: I pretty much had been eating what you have but would add then Iwould maybe have a protein smoothie or ready made protein drink in the evening. I am drinking about 1.5 litre of water and also half cup prune juice. I carry the water everywhere I go. I am on the second week which is thicker but smooth, next week is mushy and 4th week soft food. some days find I am hungry and dr suggested I eat 6 small amounts per day, 1/2 cup portions but along as I was also including protein. Had first check up and everything seems to be going ok:thumbup:

If I lose too much...
Diana_in_Philly replied to Fluffie2006's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably not. They want to see that you can stick to the diet, follow instructions and are serious about making this change. Because you are going to be living high protein, low carb from surgery forward. -
I had a car accident 10 days after my surgery inAugust so had more swelling than normal. I struggled for quite some time getting all my Protein, but the NUT just had me drink a shake a day in addition to foods I was able to eat. That gave me 30 g immediately. My energy was horrible. At 4 weeks I biked and barely made 4 miles. At 10 weeks I went hiking and did20 miles one day and 10 on another. What a difference! You'll get there. Give your body time to heal. Walking will help immensely! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

4 days post sleeve
ready_to_be_thin replied to margueriteindc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations! I am almost 3 months out and I still can't get all my Protein in, so it sounds like you are doing great. It's still hard for me to get all of my recommended liquids in as well, but I am really close. Keep up the great work and I wish you all the best of luck! Do you count vitamin calories?
esskay77 replied to brown eyed gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do NOT count calories in your vitamins. THat is just crazy. I've heard some people do that but it is not what you need to do. In fact, my NUT says to not count calories, count grams of protein, carbs, fats (when you are allowed the last 2). Counting protein is so much easier and less stressful than counting calories. -
Need Eating advice - Esp. from Plicationers
Betterbytheday replied to Betterbytheday's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wannalise, Thanks for the tuna tip, I'm still on week two with Boost Vitamin protein drink, and creamed soups. I'm trying to get some way for my best friend to have this surgery, she really needs it as has been recently diagnosed with Diabetes. Dilema is that she could probably get her insurance to cover it but she doesn't want the staples for some reason. Well, they're playing hell just getting insurance to cover the sleeve, it's a long way off until it covers the plication surgery. Tell me, can you feel anything different inside, are you okay with the staples and was your recover difficult? Please advise so I can tell her.B -
9 Months Post Op And New To The Boards!
BrittanyLayne05 replied to BrittanyLayne05's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My diet has been pretty standard. Trying to get in fluids (although I could be much better), eat protein when possible (although I am not nearly as strict as some others as I love pasta lol) try to remember to take all of my vitamins every day, and stay away from junk foods (although once in a blue moon I might have a handful of flaming hot cheetos lol). I find that when I do follow those guidelines I do feel much better. I was a serial dieter before the sleeve and now I feel like I eat like a thin person does. I eat well most of the time but I'm not afraid to indulge occasionally. When I do indulge, it is delicious and not shameful. Now that I am a bit futher out and closer to my goal (so close yet so far lol) I have to be a little more strict to sustain regular weightloss but nothing too intense. I hope that answers your question! And I am sure you will find all the success you desire as well! -
I had sleeve surgery on November 16, and have been meeting my Protein and hydration goals since I was discharged. I'm completely exhausted, but I assume that's normal and will get better. I'm amazed that I had the courage to have most of my stomach removed, but I'm so glad I did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

sucker punched last night
jeffrey replied to doggz109's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This discussion has been so helpful! I am scheduled for 4/18, and worry so much about not being able to enjoy food afterwards. I love healthy eating, but also have overindulged way too many times. The idea of repositioning thinking is so helpful, as is the reassurance that it can be mostly portion size which changes. Thanks all. What a great group! Wish me luck! Starting two weeks of low carb/higher protein, experimenting and stockpiling protein powders and stevia-sweetened drinks, etc., and determined to make this work once and for all. -
When am I allowed to do thing ?
JamieLogical replied to shelby18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt really tired all the time until I was on soft foods and was able to get in more calories. If you are going to try to be physically active, I encourage you to try to get your protein and calories in. I didn't do anything more intense than "brisk walking" until I was over 850 calories a day. Then I stepped it up to 1100-ish calories a day as soon as I could from there. I would say, for me, that was about two months post-op? -
I am having a sleeve this Thursday. I weigh 365 lbs. i am reading that I will need 70-90 grams of protein. Anyone know exactly the amount needed? Maybe there is a formula.

I buy them at one of the many local grocery stores I shop at called Cost Less. They are made by Foster Farms so I believe they are sold alot of places. Here's a link. http://www.fosterfarms.com/products/product.asp?productcode=14040 They have different flavors, even pastrami. One 2 oz serving has like 60 calories. 1/2 gram of fat and 13 grams of Protein. Very moist. Wayyy easier than buying a huge turkey and then worrying about cooking it exactly right..lol I fell in love with eggfaces page last night! Cannot wait to experiment this week! My freezer/fridge will probably be packed with leftovers! Hehe

Just go at it slowly. It took me a long time to learn to eat solids. I had to stick with Protein drinks and mushies for awhile while introducing solids slowly. You'll want moister meats. Cooking in a crock pot is good cause things are moist and tender. There should be some recipes in the food forum also.

Day 3 Post Op: Am I Normal?
frogftsh replied to Kelsey Marie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said not to worry about protein the first week unless I wanted it. She said many people can only handle the clear liquids and even though Isopure is considered a clear she said that the protein could cause fullness/nausea. They advised that I get as close to 60oz/day or more. I wasn't able to hit more than 40 for the first several days (I'm 6 days post). I think it wasn't until yesterday that I got to close to 70 and the same again today. Maybe try just clears with no protein for a day or two? -
SMALL BITES, SLOW DOWN, and CHEW CHEW CHEW!!! Stop when you get the first inclination of restriction. Do not talk when eating at all. IF you must talk during a meal wait till you have finished CHEWING. Only put on your plate what you believe you can finish. That might only be a tablespoon of food to start out. Protein first then veggies then starches if at all. DO NOT DRINK when eating. Save the drinking till after the meal is done and then small sips only. ENJOY the food. SAVOR each bite. I chew Soup believe it or not. LOL!!!

Obesity is an inflammatory state. That inflammation may actually worsen the symptoms of MS. Weight loss via dieting or surgery should help(in general). The VSG is a good option to consider for a patient with MS as there is no foreign body and no intestinal bypass that could interact with the side effects of MS. There are not many patients with MS that have had weight loss surgery but one of mine told me recently that her Neurologist said she had the best MRI in ten years. She is two years postoperative from a VSG!

Niiiiice! I like that idea! I'd be happy to successfully get the water and protein in at this point.... Thanks for the suggestion!

looking to get help with protein drinks and bars can anyone direct me to a good tasting drink and bar trying to get situated before surgery thanx for any help robin

Lori is right Mark, always follow your docs instructions. I have come across some confusion in my instructions w/wording between my doc & the nutritionists sheets (btw: doc approved their sheets as well). I need to ask him about those. The question I have is can you use milk or soy milk in your Docs directions for Protein shakes / drinks. Bottom line is nothing too thick/heavy must be smooth puréed/blended shakes, no chuncks, no seeds or long fibers. I have been drinking shakes for years & made both my kiddos baby food so I have this part down pat. I know what blends well & what doesn't. Well mostly anyway Forgot my taste buds are usually wonky for a few months after surgeries. I had to add a banana to my shakes to give a little more flavor. Also, added a pinch of cinnamon. It was pretty tasty.

Hey everyone. Signed up about 4 months ago and never pursued it any farther so here goes. Been having some issues lately. I had my surgery in Oct of 08. I started at 326 and to date I have been hovering at 255. I have been stuck here for about 3 months, well since my last fill. I'm at about 6cc's and have the large band. I wont lie been depressed and thats why I think I'm here. Lets just say I have drank my calories more then eating. Mornings cant eat so try to remember my protein shakes. Along with a glass of milk. I'm always out and find myself eating fast food:( So any ideas there would be great. Also quick dinner or lunch ideas would be much appreciated. I am 24 and have struggled my whole life with my weight. Been consistent my whole life but was always on a slow increase then my fiance left about 3 years ago and thats when things got bad so once I confronted those issues I decided to do this. It has been great and I feel great but still have a ways to go. Hard to imagine tho cause I have never seen what I would look like skinny. lol. Well I will leave it at that for now and thank you for reading what I wrote and look forward to hearing from everyone!

Thanks for the input. I did call the doctor that night and he told me I was probably dehydrated, wasn't having calories or my thyroid was out of whack. He told me to have some juice with sugar and calories. He said he knows that we are told to have drinks with no calories or sugar but that I needed the liquid and calories. My thyroid tests were negative. Over the weekend I tried to get more liquids in and to get more calories in- meaning I probably wasn't eating enough "food". I got banded just two weeks ago and was having a hard time getting all the liquids and Proteins in. And after only 6-8 tablespoons of Soup broth, I was already full. He said I had to eat a little more than thought. I am feeling better though! It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I've lost 13 pounds as of today.

I was banded on 6/11. For the past two days I have been having odd heart palpitations that mainly seem to stay in my throat. Today they have been quite often- every 10-15 minutes even if I'm just sitting relaxing. I can say that I am having a very hard time getting my Protein and fluids in. Especially the fluids. Can the heart palpitations be from possibly dehydration? How many calories should we be aiming for in a day. I have been only getting three very small meals in (maybe 5-6 tablespoon of soup) and can't seem to get the three protein Snacks in. Perhaps I'm just malnutritioned from it all although I don't feel real bad. Just the heart palpitations with a little fuzziness sometimes- no dizziness. However, I don't want it to get worse. Any recommendations? I am a first time poster!!!

Hi everyone hope you’re well, I’ve been on the pre-op diet for three weeks and I was very nervous because I had a scheduled trip to Las Vegas. Before the trip I had been meal prepping, measuring my food, weighing my food, etc. so naturally I was very nervous for what I was going to have to go through Las Vegas because all my friends were going and I knew I could not eat as I normally would or drink any alcohol whatsoever. It was very difficult because all the options are fast food and restaurants so I made sure to order the most protein dishes but I found myself eating more larger portions than I should have. I did a lot of walking and I took the stairs when possible. I was there for five whole days no desserts sticking with three meals a day and no snacking while watching all my other friends eat anything they wanted. I was so nervous to get up this morning and weighed myself since today is my first day home because I have my psychologist appointment on Monday. I wanted to show progress but I was so scared that this trip may have set me back. I am so excited to announce that I am actually down four more pounds while on my trip in Vegas putting my total weight loss in the past three weeks on pre op diet to 21 pounds. Thank you God!
