Massive Regrets Frustration - you’re my only hope
Possum220 replied to ShelleyBelley's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@ShelleyBelleyYou are absolutely on point to see the surgeon and getting yourself to A & E. You have had major surgery and things can and do go wrong. I am glad that you were able to see the surgeon. You are not being silly in any way shape or form. It is the surgeons job to keep an eye on you. Dehydration will affect your body so much. Sucking on lemonade icy poles will help. Also have some broth and add in some protein powder. Tea and coffee help. Electrolyte drinks can be found at the chemist. I also found that the anti-emetic Ondansetron helped with the vomiting and nausea. Hope everything from now is on the improve for you. You deserve to be well for you. There is a saying that the "squeaky wheel gets the oil'. Squeak as loud as you can until the you are satisfied that you have been heard. 🙂 -
Hi Georgie! Thank you so much for your reply! I'm sorry that your healing was slowed by other concerns, but I'm glad to hear you're getting there. 🩷 I'm very happy with the food I am getting in and my exercise. I think I have a healthy balance right now where I get at least 80g of protein every day (usually more, if I'm honest). This is what I have to watch out for because too much protein seems to dip back towards too many calories, as my surgeon told me. I work with a dietician who specializes in PCOS, so I have specific macro goals geared towards that and my bariatric requirements. I'm losing weight steadily - I just got over a stall, and I'm getting closer to a 50 pound weight loss, which is exciting to me. 🤩

March 23 buddies yet?
GeorgieLynn replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brandi, I was sleeved March 9 so am right with you on time but have had some medical set backs so have healed very slowly. I will share with you were I am on my tracking but as you said don't use it as your guide because we are in different situations. When evaluating your own intake it is most important to look at where your calories are coming from and your total mix of macros in proportion to one another. Are most of your calories coming from protein? Are your fats plant based? Are you sticking to low carbs and are they complex? Where are your sugars coming from, naturally occurring or refined? How much exercise/ calories are you typically buring in a day? 🤔 So many things to consider. With that said I am averaging around 650 cal/daily still struggling to get 60 g protein and my water. I am not getting enough daily exercise yet and have had a PICC line for daily hydration. (Like I said, other medical issues which have slowed down my healing) at 5 weeks I went back to full liquids. So, focus on your hu ger signals; if you think you are "feeling hungry" too soon, try drinking a non-caloric beverage and wait 30 minutes after you finish it to see if it was actually thirst you were confusing with hunger. Stay on schedule with your meals and snacks (meal planning) and make your protein and water your very first priority before anything else. I find if I do that, there isn't much room for anything else. Don't be obsessed with the scale but do weigh once a week and allow that to be a tool, understanding that you will have stalls, but it should generally be on a general slow slope down over time. And, don't hesitate to talk to your dietician, Dr, or other medical professionals about your concerns and for guidance. And also know that we all have these insecurities and worries. ❤️ Love yourself and you will do the right thing. Believe in YOU! -
Weightloss stall...Around 3 months post Gastric Bypass
Erin18 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sucks to not see the scale moving. It makes me feel like im failing. I know it's normal, but ahh! I only lost 39.5 pounds since surgery (2/21/23). What could I be doing wrong? What could I do to get it moving again? Am I eating too many calories? I don't even know how many calories I'm supposed to be having. I don't have anything in my papers. One things for sure, a lot of stuff doesn't feel like I get restriction? The only thing I can't eat really so far is bread, pancakes/waffles. That I know of. I know each meal is supposed to be 3 to 4 ounces. How do you guys figure out your entire meal size. 2oz protein, 1 ounce veggies, 1 ounce starch? Ugh. My next appointment is the 25th or 26th -
Bariatric Pal make protein shots that are not too bad. I like the cran grape and apple.

Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?
PuraVida37 replied to LoveSimcha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 110 lbs, but have put back 10 due to careless binge eating of sliders. I am re-addicted to sugar and it's making me slowly put weight back on. I need to get myself back under control and include more protein. In more positive news, I am a runner now and have a 10K coming up. I'm so excited!! -
Hello and Congrats. I just had my VGS on Monday.. I too do not like protein shakes,, My dietitian said I can just drink protein water. Premiere Protein makes a tropical punch flavor and peach one.. they are 20 g of protein per bottle. I get mine off Amazon. Both flavors are good, but I prefer the Tropical one. Give those a try if you haven't already.

Massive Regrets Frustration - you’re my only hope
ShelleyBelley replied to ShelleyBelley's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
LindsayT firstly yes I’d absolutely adore you as a friend, I need one with absolute desperation. I feel very vulnerable and alone currently so without sounding a complete desperate loopiloo yes please. (Big arms outstretched never letting go) catlady0626 - thank you so so much for replying. Yes I have fever including occasional rigours and cold parameters intermediate. Paracetamol added to my daily medicines which does seem to calm. I do have flu like symptoms to accompany and just arrived back from holiday on an aeroplane though so have not made any connection to twists tears or similar. It’s actually crossed my mind I have herniated more prolifically at my umbilical and perhaps developed a hiatal in honesty. But don’t want to sound neurotic. summerseeker - your reply is so helpful and makes a lot of sense to reassure. I cannot tell you thank you in words to warrant how grateful I am for your reply. The ‘posterise hypertension’ I am struggling with is horrendous and must be BP but I’m not a fainter. It was the icing on the cake so to speak yesterday that started my panic. I knew all this I was struggling with was not normal but seemed to be dismissed on every contact by my care team. Therefore, I’ve waited and listened and tried 6 further contacts but began to feel I was either being neurotic or impatient or a time waster. However, reading your reply and everyone I’m replying to now had made me realise - I am not right and I need to act. Janetdekker - thank you thank you to you for replying. I’d love to get probiotics down me but I am barely able to swallow some days. It’s so hard getting anything down me or should I say to even stay down at the moment. I seem to have a day or two in say 10 days I get some foods down and I think I’m through the worst but then regress back to start. But I’ll buy some probiotic yoghurt drinks and see if I can keep these down to see if they help. It’s infuriating and so frustrating. I can’t thank you enough for taking your time to reply to me. to update further information that may help any further advice, thought share that I dearly appreciate. ive actually counted the week number today and I’ll be 13 weeks post-op on Tuesday next week. (Feels a lot longer) ive lost over 4 stones in this time frame and I’m so weak currently. I kid you not, I feel breathless making a cup of tea. I feel worse than when I endured pre-eclampsia and emergency section with my son. I felt I may die at that time but it’s feeling more similar as each day passes. Im utterly exhausted / spent. im 46 years old, 3 children and am 5 ft 9 inches. Weighed 21 stone 4.5lbs on Friday 10th February and now weigh 17 stone 3lbs. I feel The weight loss is much too fast as I cannot get enough protein or nutrition into my body. The loose skin and muscle deterioration seems quite extensive (I feel very soggy all over of this makes any sense) but admit my worrying in my current situation has me feeling quite neurotic so I’m trying to prioritise my worries to keep sane! today, I have managed to get 4 small strawberries down (chewed to a purée before attempting to swallow) with around 12 bites of clean spaghetti bolognese (meat removed and chopped into pieces no larger than rice and each mouthful chewed three times) and 300ml of fluid and a small cup of tea today. However, I’ve been in bed all day with tummy pain, vomited and other end loo trips within 20 minutes of eating. No full bladder urination. Swallowing is difficult and eating the strawberries took 20 minutes. The 12 bites of spaghetti Bol took an hour to get down me. I tried a smooth yogurt prior to bed but have just been woken up by tummy cramping / vomited it back up and checked my messages to see all your kind and helpful replies. I take lansaprozol time- delay tablets x 2. 3 x baricol chewables, calcichew x 1 and have just added 12000 mm/mg tablet of biotin today. If my nails get any thinner I’ll have none covering my fingers and my hair loss is devastating! 1-3 ciclixine / odansetron a day for sickness and nausea too. I can’t go a day without at least one a day but they do come with the side effect of drowsiness so they make me literally zonk. I don’t like this so much but it’s helped me gain a few hours sleep I guess as a positive. is there any other infirbation I can provide that may help with any of your thoughts / ideas / advice / suggestions? Obviously I’m new and am unsure of what further info will help you to support me. I can’t thank you enough for your replies and I’m so sorry if I sound like some neurotic banshee in a state of panic. I honestly don’t know what thoughts I trust in myself at the moment. I just feel so very poorly. thank you again for any wisdom. 💕💕💕 -

Feeling Awesome! its been a week now, walking since day one and started driving last Sunday. Got to work today (I work from home at a desk so that was no issue) manage to loose 8 lbs the first 3 days and only 1 in The last 4 days. JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES
southernmomofive replied to Mira88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand that. That’s why I’ve gone down to protein shakes, tuna salad, egg salad etc. mainly I have three shakes a day and pushing the water. I’m almost back to my lap band weight. I’m so afraid of not making the weight I need to get the surgery. You got this. It’s a journey. -
I think it’s possible to reset your sleeve and start to loose again. You have to go back to the regimen post surgery and drink two protein shakes and 1 meal per day. It will come off. I just lost 50 pounds over 6 month period and I had sleeve 10 years ago. If you have more questions let me know

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs
Yahoo replied to greeneyedgirl79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So weird hearing someone say that’s great - I feel like I hit a stall every couple of days. I have followed the program (though walking now that I have started work is hard). In addition to water and protein goals my team gave me a fiber goal (though I have heard anyone talk about a fiber goal in this forum). Was told don’t worry about calories or carbs - but listen to your body -
Hey there I'm 2 weeks out post op and I had the DS surgery too. I'm still getting adjusted to all the fluids I have to get in, the 5-6 small meals the 60-80 grams of protein I have to have for now and then it goes up to 80-100 grams of protein in a day. I've gotten sick a couple times or a little dehydrated or I'm not resting enough. I'm still learning my new body and losing weight all at the same time. I understand the need to be able to talk to someone about what you're going through cause no one really understand stands what you going through. So my name is Stephanie Ellis and I'm willing to talk and be whatever else you need cause everyone needs someone. Stephanie Ellis

11 days from gastric bypass
Noramcd replied to Jennevans1101's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I found a flavorless protein powder that dissolves in hot or cold food or drinks. “Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides unflavored.” It has 18 grams of protein for 2 scoops. I put it in my coffee in the morning. I’ve put it in broth and cold vitamin water in the evening if I haven’t reached my protein goal. I started on soft foods on week 3 and I’m 25 days out from bypass. -
May 2023 surgeries
travelgal replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was out of surgery about 8 hours ago and have been feeling relatively well. My pain from gas is actually in my shoulder and neck. Very little in my abdomen so far - or the pain meds are covering any pain there. Surprisingly, the doctors took care of a small hernia in my esophagus too - I’ll find out more tomorrow or when the notes upload to my E chart. So far I have been able to consume 6oz each of veg broth, beef broth, water, and protein water. Trying the jello now, verrry slowly - now I understand being able to eat only very little bites of something that is two ounces. -
Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs
Sigh replied to greeneyedgirl79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi- im 5’2’’ and started at 195. I lost 12lbs in the three weeks I had to surgery, then went into surgery at 183.6. I am currently 8 weeks and 3 days, and weigh 155.6 today. I agree- it will come and I’d prefer to lose more slowly so my skin has some chance of recovering too- even though i know that is a bit of a pipe dream. I try to keep in mind this is not a magic wand, it comes down to my choices with this tool I’ve acquired. I am still only eating 2-3 oz at a time, 2-3 small “meals” a day and a protein shake to make sure i hit my protein goals. Im hitting fluid goals at about 68-70oz fluid, so still working on that too. Also, I think my body has some memory of these weights, and I tend to get “hung” around some that i stayed at before- ie, 165, current one 155, and coming up 145… so expecting some resistance on these numbers- and more slowly as i get closer to goal. I do FEEL tons better though- less joint pain and tiredness, so that is a WIN! For me, the numbers on the scale mean less that how I feel- so im enjoying it! -
Any April Surgery Dates?
MelissaGail replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on 4/28, too. Getting all of my protein and fluid in has been a struggle. The last couple of days have been easier though. I am getting about 50-60 protein and 50 fluid. (last week I had days I was lucky to get 24 ounces of fluid in a day) I was almost 15 lbs down since surgery date as of yesterday morning. I woke up and weighed this morning and I was up half a pound. I am assuming that is b/c I am finally consuming the amount of fluids I should be (or closer to it) . I have got to stop weighing in every day. -
Hey, nice to meet you! Good luck to you too! I just came back from my dietician appointment, where I was told to start my preop diet today. I'm trying to choose vitamins and protein shakes, that hopefully will be tolerable, because so far everything I've tried tasted really bad. Anything you found and liked?

Sleeve to Bypass due to REGAIN
Tomo replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I read an article that stated that revisions mainly work for those that the original sleeve was done incorrectly. Which is why many surgeons warn their patient that they will likely only lose about 40 lbs. While that may be true, you have a wonderful tool to help you continue to get healthy, and if you stay within the guidelines, for at least 80% of the time, your weight WILL come off. Keep hydrated, don't drink till at least 30 min later, protein first, eat healthy, keep in touch with your team during stalls. -
November 2022 surgery support!
NP_WIP replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry to hear about the lack of support. I have hair loss, not extreme but it is noticeable. I used to loose a lot before and now its like double that, so I cut my hair 30 days post of so it wasn't as noticeable.. Biotin is supposed to help with new hair growth, but it would not stop the hair shedding/loss. My surgeon's office suggest being on top of your vitamins and proteins, taking the biotin supplement to make sure new hair growth is strong. Some from my support group swear my castor oil and other supplements but I have not tried it. -
1st Business Trip Post-op. HELP!
NP_WIP replied to bob_behn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first trip was 30 days post op, second at 7 weeks. I took some protein powder (whey and the fruity one) and some Gatorade protein, they come in small packets. Other than that I found it easy to get protein first even when eating out, stuck to lean proteins, eggs, and yogurt. I mentally divided my meals in 4 servings and took leftovers for later or shared my meal with someone. On one occasion I took quest protein chips, not the best option but the bag fills me up and has 20g, now I do the mini quest protein bar as an emergency back up plan. -
