I had my band in 01/05 and to me it was very painful the first 4 days. I have a very low tolerance for pain. I had my revision on 12/20/13 and it was painless, hardly any pain, I was a little tender on left side for abt two to three days. I was really nervous abt the pAin w the sleeve. I had watch several u tube videos..some said no pain and others said worst pain in their life. So I wasn't really sure what to think. I was really scared but went ahead with it. When I came to I couldn't believe that it didn't hurt. I was pleasantly surprised and oh so relieved. No my only problems was EXTREME nausea and Diarrhea... My diarrhea has stop and the nausea not quiet as bad. Good luck in your venture

How many went from lap band to bypass?
teb66 replied to weightlossdiva1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery Aug. 7th. I had the lap band removed a year ago. I am down 21 lbs but different from lap band. With the lap band I was hungry all the time. I dont find I am hungry now and have to remind myself to eat. Im still on pureed stage however I have only had issues with milk. I feel full when I eat - not like lapband and then too full and puke. I hear weight comes off slower with the revision. Hang in there. Any weight loss is better than NONE. -

Sleeve Failure - Revision in 2 weeks
MsTiffyxox replied to Cindyjo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Happy Healing, i have heard revisions are becoming more common ( from the sleeve). im excited and nervous i have the sleeve and i barely eat as is. -
Just found out today that my band has slipped for the second time. In one week, a decision will be made as to what to do. Revision, gastric bypass after band removal or sleeve after band removal. Not sure what the revision entails yet. Not happy to have come this far (more than 3 years) to have this happen. In fact, I am pretty heart broken right now. Any advice anyone?
-
Wow - that's a big decision. Would you consider revising to something else (I'm hearing good things about the sleeve), or just nothing at all? Well...I hope you get the result that would make you happiest.

Possible Revision To Vsg, Rny Or Should I Just Get The Band Fixed?
PJ_Sleeve posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Let me start with a little history... I became a bandster in 2007. I lost 130 lbs and have gained back 115 lbs. I did well in the beginning. The weight melted off of me. Restriction was never a problem. I followed the band rules perfectly. Then in 2009, things changed. An event actually changed everything for me. I either had a virus or food poisoning. Either way, it was terrible, I could not stop heaving. We all know that with the band, anything below the band is not coming up. I had to call my surgeon and was prescribed Zofran, but I think it was too late. Something terrible happened. The area around my band was sore for quite some time and my little "friend" inside of me, started to become my enemy. Since then, I have shown a nasty hiatal hernia. My reflux is terrible. And there is no fill that is comfortable. I get a fill, follow the rules, and I am right back at the surgeon's office the next morning to get an unfill then I am back to NO RESTRICTION. It has become a viscous cycle and I have gained most of the weight back slowly since that time. I have been told that if I correct the hiatal hernia and if the band is pushed up a bit, that my restriction will come back and things will get better. However, even with that in mind despiration has pushed me to go more extreme to scheduling a VSG on September 17th. I am strongly reconsidering my choice after doing much more homework on the possible complications of a VSG. Now I am doing some homework on the RNY, which may be a better alternative to VSG. Either way, I have to get the hiatal hernia fixed. So, my questions to the lapband community: Would personally try to correct the situation if you were in this position? Have you been through a revision from an existing band surgery to a correction and were you successful after the correction? I am just looking for some input and possible support either way. Looking forward to hearing from you! -
Revision... another question
SIPS in Seattle posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
What made you choose sleeve over other options? DS or RNY? Looking to revise from band. Thanks! -
Hello All, I would like reviews of Dr. Clayton Frenzel in Arlington-Dallas, Texas. I'm having band issues and need a revision doctor but want to make sure I pick the best one. I'm self pay which is a horrible thing since I'm not sure I can even do anything about the band if it is damaged. I've searched and can't find much about Dr. Frenzel. I have had a consult with him and he and his staff is very nice. He spent a lot of time answering all my questions but I can't find many that have used him...which makes me nervous. He does his surgery out of Forest Park Medical Center which I understand is an excellent facility. You may pm me here if you don't want to post in public. Thank you for your time.

New here..band to VSG revision 4/24/13
qdh replied to jlobyxmas's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2008. Never felt full. Never reached a sweet spot. Random foods would get stuck. Sometimes the same food I'd eaten earlier without a problem. I never told anyone about my band either...and I'm glad because you can't tell I had WLS. I'm grateful that I never had a slip or erosion. However, the little weight I lost has all returned. Throwing up every day since 2008 got old...excusing yourself from the dinner table, etc. Even at 260 lbs people are thinking I have an eating disorder since I leave the table so often. 12/2012, I had all of the fluid removed from my band. I was hopeful for a revision, but the main goal was to get this band removed!! I am fortunate and have been approved for a revision on 4/25. I don't want to fail again. I'm going to give it all I got and not look back. I've decided to put the lap band behind me. I don't want to compare recovery, eating, digestion....anything. As of 4/25 (for me) the band never existed. I MUST do this. This band has been worse emotionally than any bad relationship I've encountered. Best to you all. I haven't even been revised yet and I know that it is a better decision. -
Official August thread! Where are you guys?
tls1210 replied to Faithoftheheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for Monday, August 24. I am on day 2 of a five day clear liquid diet. I'm not so much hungry, but I am kind of weak. I have been making and drinking homemade broths. I see a lot of you have protein included in your diet - my Dr. said nothing about protein only clear liquids and I have been wondering about not getting enough protein. I am very nervous and excited (at the same time) about the surgery. My Mother had a revision from the Sleeve to Rny n April and had several complications - she is still not feeling up to par. So, all those complications are in the back of my head and making me anxious. Btw, I am in Pittsburgh. -
At the beginning of April I all of a sudden had no restriction and was able to eat anything. I went for a fill thinking that I had just waited awhile and that maybe the band just loosened after losing weight, but still no restriction. I went back the next week and got another fill, and yet still no restriction so they decided to check to see how much fluid there was. They were only able to pull out 3cc, when my chart said that I should have had a little more than 9cc. She gave me a fill of 4cc (which would bring me back up to 7cc) and told me to come back the next week. I came back and they checked the fluid again..... still only found 3cc! They told me that it had to be a port leak and that I would need to get a port revision. I freaked at the sound of $1550 seeing as how I am a self-pay and still paying on my surgery. Well I got the loan regardless and had the surgery on May 7th. When I got out of surgery, my doctor told me that he was not able to see the leak in the port. I was furious seeing as how they did not even offer me the option to have the barium to see if it was even a port leak.. they were just so sure that they knew what it was. I mean the barium would have only been $100 vs. $1550 for the surgery and for a college student I would have rather taken the lesser of the two and prevented a surgery that I did not need. So I went back to the doctor this past Tuesday to get a fill. He told me that during surgery he gave me a fill of 5cc and that he was going to give me another fill of 4cc on that day (which would bring me up to 9cc). When he checked the fluid after giving the fill, I only had 7cc! I have to go back tomorrow to see if the 7cc are still in there.. if not then it's something to do with the band, which is something he has never heard of happening! I'm beginning to get extremely discouraged because I am only 13 months banded and already running into problems when I haven't even reached my goal weight... not to mention all of these expenses that I am incurring on top of the surgery I am still paying for. I go back tomorrow to see if the 7cc are still in there.. I will keep you all updated! Wish me luck..

Cost/Mexico question
WASaBubbleButt replied to tonyahebert's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
For about the 12th time, I have told you time and time again that at one time I thought Dr. Arturo had a good rep. What I did not realize at the time is that I thought people were talking about Arturo when in fact they were referring to Jose Rodriguez. He IS a nice man, a VERY nice man. He is very charismatic, he just isn't the greatest surgeon. Look, Mellis, it's not my fault he and Sanchez were making their own bands, it isn't my fault the bands eroded at a rate of 50%, it isn't my fault he had to remove so many, and it isn't my fault he kept placing them anyway. If you don't like what happened take it up with your boss. You keep claiming that I work for Aceves, truth is I tell the truth about all doctors with the information I have. It's convenient to throw around accusations when I have some facts about your boss. It does not make it true or accurate. Look at the number of revisions your boss has on OH, between 300 and 400. THOSE ARE THE "MEXICAN" BANDS HE REMOVED. Deal with it or don't, I'm tired of your sorry debates and inability to defend your boss. I am sick to death of AGREEING with you that YES at one time I thought he was a good surgeon. YES I told you he was a nice guy, I'm not sure how I can communicate to you that more information came to light after our conversation. Honestly, I don't know how to explain it to you in terms you can comprehend or accept. I have tried about a dozen times now. Clearly you just don't want to lose business by the truth coming to light. You know what? Not my problem. I am not going to quit telling what I know about ANY surgeon because future banded folks have a right to know regardless of how that affects your paycheck. You can throw around any accusation you wish, it isn't going to change the facts one tiny bit. -

Very helpful Marina...thank you. When do you think you will have the revision?

I agree. My mum has a fear of hospitals and surgery so the fear factor is probably spot on. How has your mum got on with RnY? I thought I was decided on that but I'm now toying with the sleeve. Im getting cold feet regarding the 'replumbing' of the intestine. My surgeon has said if I change my mind it fine aslong as it's not last minute. Silly question, but when you say revision is that another OP for something else? Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Astrid, I'm not sure what the difference between UK and US is either lol. Anyway good luck with your journey as well and I think that while being independent is great like Mikey but it's nice to have some go to ppl that you know can relate to what you are going through. My revision surgery from sleeve to RNY is due to the reflux getting worse than it was before I had sleeve surgery. Although it's more surgery and a harder surgery according to my gastrointestinal doctor and my surgeon, it's apparently the only hope I have to fix the severe GERD (reflux disease). I'm so glad I have only 11 days to go but wound up at the Urgent care yesterday with 101.2 temperature due to a ear infection and am getting a summer cold. So I am now on a ZPak of antibiotics and cold medicine trying to kick it before surgery. I am not about to reschedule if I can do anything fo avoid it. Have a great weekend. Problems eating a yr after post op
James Marusek replied to Missmfp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That does not sound normal. If you are 18 months post-op, you should be able to consume a cup of food per meal; not just 2 forkfuls of food. I threw your symptoms into the internet and what seemed to pop out was "late dumping syndrome". http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/dumping-syndrome.html I am not sure I believe this. It is possible that you might be experiencing problems relating to revisions. One individual in our bariatric support group meeting went from a lap band revision to RNY gastric bypass. Because of the scaring associated with the erosion caused by his band, his new pouch was constructed much smaller than typical. As a result, he was somewhat limited in the volume he could consume at each meal. I have personally found out that softer foods such as chili and Soups go down much easier than harder foods such as steaks. -
Dr. Rodriguez is supposed to be one of the first surgeons to start performing lap band surgery. He's a very able surgeon from what I have heard and Mellis has also corroborated in the above post what I have heard. Here's where I got Dr. Rodriguez brief profile: Dr. Arturo Rodriguez - Bariatric Surgery (lap band, gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, revision surgery) in Mexico The website also has some info about lap band costs and procedure and they list Dr. Rodriguez as one of their associated surgeons. I found it here: Cost of Lap Band Surgery | Mexico, Costa Rica, India, Belgium | Lap Band Specials |Price of Gastric Band Packages| Lap Band Surgery Cost

Since it's similar to the ROSE procedure for failed RNY patients, you might want to post on the obesityhelp.com Revision forum.
