One Week Post-Surgery and I am STARVING!
WendyII replied to langx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my band a week ago I feel the need to eat often, but I do think it is head hunger. Usually one tablespoon of plain yogurt or cottage cheese does the trick. (I am on pureed foods but cottage cheese seems to be ok.) I think distractions at this stage in the game are key. -
I've been constipated for 2 years! Drink lots of water, and try adding Benefibre (or any other such product) to your protien shakes. Also, believe it or not, bran cereal works wonders. I hate bran, so I sprinkle it on top of frozen yogurt.

Pudding and yogurt are one my full liquid list from my doctor.

HOw long did it take to have a bm after surgery?
Mamacj replied to ashleyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry too much about the bm, as long as you are passing gas and not feeling constipated or bloated. For protein, I really like the whey protein 'Body Fortress' from Wal-Mart add skim milk and its like 30 grams per serving. You can also get benefiber (odorless, tasteless) it adds 6gms to anything, soup, yogurt, protein drinks, etc. -
ouncestoo much food Am I eating too much?
nsantoro126 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, Okay, so I am in the puree diet phase. I bought this "Powerful Yogurt" that has 20 grams of protein but it is an 8 ounce container. I can pretty much eat the entire container without any problems, actually, I have noticed that I have been able to eat more of anything lately. I know initial swelling keeps the stomach smaller and it once the swelling starts to go down, you ca eat more, but is this too much? I thought I wasn't able to eat this much? Is my stomach increasing too much? I am worried because I lost 18 lbs (3 weeks post op) and now it's slowing down. Am I not losing enough fast enough? Sorry for all the questions and terrible grammar. I am just nervous! Thanks guys and gals! -
My meals vary. I usually have a low fat/no sugar yogurt with a spoonful of granola for bfast. lunch, lately its been a chicken tender and mixed veggies, or a small frozen WW meal, I usually cannot finish it. Today its a small container of tuna (2.9 oz.) with some FF mayo - just a little, and a few multi-grain crackers to go with it. I will probably wait a few hours and have a pealed apple too. dinner, I can eat more, I have to watch my portion control for dinner. I usually have whatever we are having for dinner but put it on a small plate and force myself to eat very slow. This helps me not overeat. The one thing I have noticed, I could always eat more even with great restriction, but I try and listen to my body. When I'm no longer hungry, I stop, I try to see how little I can eat vs. how much I can eat. The key I've also found is Protein FIRST!!!!!! Also, when you first get banded, you will only be able to eat a few tablespoons, enjoy it.....that will end. Try and get your fluids in too. I try and sip Water all day, this helps my pouch stay busy.

Haha! Yeah. There is a BIG difference between yogurt and meat. I always love the posts that ask how much people can eat. It definitely depends on WHAT you are eating. 5 oz. of yogurt is EASY. But I STILL can't eat more than 2 oz. of tuna.

Jamie, I was definitely shooting for the moon thinking id get through 4oz. My nut book says 4oz of meat, and the label said 21grams of protein so I was sooo excited. I can eat 5oz Greek yogurts so I guess I thought that 4oz would be a breeze. NOPE, said the grouchy pouch. Funniest thing? My mom, who weighs 125 pounds soaking wet and has never been big her entire life polished off three pieces of bread and butter, a cup of cheesy rice, green Beans and twice the turkey I had on my plate BEFORE I got through my measley 1.3oz of turkey. Lol. My nutritionist told me to eat every 3 hours and has me end my night with a dessert of either SF Jello, pudding or an Atkins bar or Atkins candy. I do find the Atkins bar really hits the spot for the night. I don't eat the "meal bars" just the snack ones and only have them 2-3 times a week.

I felt incredibly full, almost so uncomfortable that even when I had nothing to eat, I felt like I was close to throwingup I was like this for about 10-12 days post op. In the last two days or so I began feeling hungry and started on mushies but the level of uncomfort is almost like I am back to being one day post op. I am thinking its just "head hunger" since my tummy does not growl or am I weak from hunger pains or depreviation ( I know from the feeling, as I use to work 8-10 hours without eating sometimes). Differetiating the two is so important. Real hunger and Head Hunger, being on full liquids again and puddings and yogurts are lowering the pain levels around my stomach and gas discomfort So take it easy and stop eating after a couple of spoonfulls and question if you are feeling like eating anymore. I have my fill the same day as yours, and I dont know if I want it! more discomfort not looking foward.

4 Moaths Out Need Some Advice
CowgirlJane replied to phillygirl8133's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think it is very normal for good to not taste good at the stage you are at. I didn't care for much of anything, which sorta taught me to eat for sustinance, not pleasure. I personally tolerated meats fine, but small portions, eaten fairly slowly. Try shrimp, sandwich meat and some of those kind of things if pork or beef feels too heavy. Try greek yogurt, try new things. And then, try them again a few months later as my tastes evolved several times. Think of food as your fuel, and just get the highest quality that you can. -
How are you getting to 1000/1200 cals a day?
SpideyMom replied to AlaskaGirl77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doc doesn't limit me to 1/2 cup at each meal. He said if I am still hungry, eat a little more. I have to learn to listen to my body, which is quite challenging, but it is working out. Sometimes I eat a cup, sometimes (but rarely) I eat only 1/4 cup. My body knows what it needs. The other thing is, I often will add unflavored Protein powder to Soups, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. to boast my protein intake. You can get very good unflavored protein from unjury. One scoop adds 21 g. protein, 90 cal., and 0 grams of fat. And because you add it to food, it is staying in your upper stomach longer, as opposed to drinking it down, like Mamadot said. HTH! -
March sleevers.. Progress?
djbwilson replied to sweetmomma05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought mine was slow, too, so I searched all over this site for tips..I learned to cut out carbs altogether, except for a little in my yogurt. I upped my water intake, and am sticking with mostly protein..2 shakes a day, sandwich meat, taco meat with a little cheese, turkey sausage with a little egg...My surg. date was 3/19, and I have lost 28lbs..bad stall at week 2, but realized i was eating too much creamed soups and mashed potatoes...and wasn't that how I got this way? This surgery really does a zinger on the way you have to think about EVERYTHING that goes into that little tummy now! Good luck, and just look real close at what's going in.. -
March sleevers.. Progress?
zoogrl replied to sweetmomma05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3/26 and I'm down 28lbs from 277 (5'6). I usually eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese for breakfast and 1/2 hour after an EAS (I noticed since I've been using those for Protein I'm dropping faster they are only 100 cal) lunch is generally Greek yogurt (plain) with a tablespoon of sugar free jelly. Just this week though I lost 5lbs after switching to carbmaster yogurt from Krogers (only 3gr of sugar instead of 9 in the plain Greek). dinner is hard for me so I generally have another shake and then maybe an egg or Soup with a scoop of protein or tuna. Swordfish was awesome for a few days because its packed with protein but its expensive. I also have a sugar free pudding usually before bed (I just bought the mix instead so I can make it with protein powder). I'm on purée but chicken purée is gross...I'm not a big meat eater. I've also eaten refrieds and mushed black Beans but they are kinda sticky feeling and not my favorite. Good luck! I notice when I switch things up is when I lose...and when I walk more of course. -
March sleevers.. Progress?

ylopez..my day is almost exactly what yours is: Egg beaters/turkey sausage crumbles for breakfast shake mid morning sliced turkey with mustard/cheese for lunch (or I have discovered chicken salad from Chick Fil A if I am out around town. The smallest you can get is a medium, and I eat half and take the other half home for dinner. It goes down good.) greek yogurt for afternoon snack (I can only eat half of the cup) 1/2-3/4 piece fish or 1/2 turkey burger patty with cheese for dinner 1/2 cup taco meat with shredded cheese is real good to me, too..I was missing something with flavor! I also like about 4 shrimp. I dip everything in mustard. i am a little afraid of ketchup, yet, for the sugar. Sometime i wil eat the rest of my yogurt for before bed snack It is VERY hard to get in all the Water they say you need because i am full from meals for about 2 hours, then it's almost time to eat again! -
Nine days post-op

Hanging head.... No, Jessica, but it is helping my headache. And I counted the calories that I'm getting in daily, and with the Isopure, Premere Protein, greek yogurt, cream soup, and other fat free, sugar free things, I'm still only getting about 700 calories per day. I'm open to your thoughts. -
How does anyone feel about smoothies in the full liquid stage. They use froz yogurt peanut butter and fat free milk. Its what I drank most of when i had braces and I love them. A small is 12 oz

Looking for a March 24 surgery buddy

I was having a real hard time! Waking up super hungry and very growly lolI started saving either part of my yogurt or one of my ensure for right before bed and that really helped! -
its ok ladies. noone said it would be easy. you will still be losing, just at a slower rate. try to remember why you chose to do this, what hoops you went through, and what it really means to you. We're in this together, no judging, just support. I just had my first post op meal - chicken stock and yogurt... I know I'm not hungry but I am craving a cheese scone damnit!
-
I second the kudos for sticking with it! But if the point is to shrink the liver, am I correct in assuming that you can only have sugar free/low fat yogurt and low fat cottage cheese? The sugar and the fat content is what makes the liver "fatty."

I got on the scale this morning and I'm 193.5. Damn!!! So my goal is still 180 by x-mas, but now I have 13.5 lbs to lose. This morning I had a yogurt, lunch was a sald with lean ham and turken, 1 tbs of dressing, raisins, 1 tbs of cheese and 1 tbs of croutons. Thats 315 cals. The yogurt was 80 cals. So thats 395 cals so far today. I plan on having some cheese for a snack, 80 cal, and 1/2 cup of grapes, 55 cals. That leaves me with 470 cals for supper. My plan is to eat like this all week and see where I am at weight wise on Monday. I want to keep to 1000 cals per day (I am not adding my coffee with 2 tbs of hot cocoa, this is another 80 cals, but I decided that this will be my "cheat" for the day because I don't count it) I know I need to keep my protein up but this week I want to be all about the calories. If I need to adjust to get either more or less, I will know by next monday. Does this plan sound stupid? If so, what should I change?

WOW! Do you know round about what the calorie count is on this? Are you using fresh fruit or Greek Yogurt with fruit? Does the splenda cut down the sour taste?
