Agree. I don't think I want to quit being aware of my WLS. It does partially define me. I have a different set of rules from a normie. I may be "normal size" now, but I will not every live in a normie's body. Right? I have a beeeeeellllion hungry little fat cells, ravenous AF, just waiting for me to say, "WTF, let's eat pizza tonight." Right? And yet that STILL doesn't make me perfect and 100% able to resist. So I eat it and guess what? Next day I might be up 5lbs! LOL. Friday I made a green smoothie to break my fast and then just had Matcha Yogurt. No overeating. No badgirl stuff. The next day I was up 4lbs. LOL. So I will always have to be aware of my own personal sh*tty sh*tty bang bang journey. And yes, yes, YES! On taking in our nutrition and not just coasting!! So importante.

Hello! I am having a sleeve surgery on 3/27 so just a few days away! The program that I am in is with one of the best hospitals in the nation and I completely trust them. However, they do things pretty differently than what most other programs do. The biggest difference is that I am in my 10 diet pre-op liquid diet and their program does not allow protein shakes. They want you to get protein naturally through things like milk and by blending food. They gave a list of foods that you can eat pre-op which includes smoothies blended with red fruit and greek yogurt. The impression I get from other programs is they are super low carb because this shrinks the liver. Well, given that my diet lets you have blended fruit and such, that doesn't seem low carb and so I am really confused on the purpose of the diet! I waited too long to ask my dietician because they won't get back to my until Monday at least and my surgery is on Wed. so not much point at that time but I am wondering if anybody has any ideas on what the purpose of this 1 day diet is if its not shrinking my liver!?

Eating too fast, not chewing enough, or???
CurvyMom replied to CurvyMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. It's helpful to see comparisons. I did notice the eating a lot slower and if I have something like chicken salad (lots of dressing or whatnot in it) it's easier to eat and chew to mush versus tryingo to cut a piece of meat up and chew and take tiny bites. 1-2 ounce is about all I can actually get down if it's not in a salad or if it's not yogurt and cottage cheese...now I just have to keep it down! -
Ok, so detail EXACTLY what you are doing. Let's figure it out. Take this assessment. 1. How much are you eating or drinking every day that has any calories in it? Calories, Macros 2. Do you weight, measure, and log EVERY bite that goes in your mouth? 3. How many times per day are you eating? 4. What times of day are you eatin? Are you eating at nite? 5. What quantities are you eating at each meal (ie weight on a scale + volume in a measuring cup) 6. Give us an idea of an average day of meals/foods you eat. 7. Are you exercising? 8. How much water are you drinking? 9. Are you drinking alcohol? Frankly, I felt I was a slow loser, too. But in the end I did better than national averages at 1 year. My weight loss picked up when I started getting most of my nutrition from real foods rather than protein drinks/yogurt/cottage cheese, etc. Dairy kicked my booty with losses. Also, I HAD to keep my calories/carb/fat SUPER lolo to lose weight. To lose comfortably, I had to be in the 600-800 calorie range and ideally around 650. Sad but true. There are many here like this. I'm basically in maintenance at 900cals. I'm a 5'4" very average, non-athletic, 56 year old woman. I walk 60+ minutes daily and do a tiny bit of strength training. AND I do IF. LOL. So it's a major kick in the teeth. 25 lbs in 3 months is very average/normal. In my opinion, many surgeons do not level with their patients and allow them to believe this is "easy" weight loss and that it will look like 20-25lbs in a month. But reality is it's average of 2-4lbs/week with most of it falling in the 2lb range. So guess what? That's 8lbs a month in a month that only has 4 weeks. Plus there are stalls that happen. Hope to hear back on this assessment and let's see if we can help?

Preparing for surgery, very scared. Tips??
Catherine Wible replied to SargentSkittles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5 weeks out and I got some great advice before my surgery, that I will pass along. Stock up you pantry before your surgery, with quick and easy post op foods. I got concentrated bone broth so I could make a mug at a time. I got cream of wheat, Triple Zero greek yogurt, Premier protein shakes, and lots of eggs. I found eggs were my best friends. Also having egg drop soup delivers from my local Chinese restaurant was a regular event the first few weeks. You will do great! -

Anyone else find it difficult with liver shrinking diet with their surgeries?
Gettingsleeved07 replied to cristobal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m on day 3 of my liquid diet and I don’t know what to do with myself. All I think about is food. Plain Greek yogurt taste horrible. I’m not sure what other yogurts I’m allowed to have. I’m always hungry I just don’t know anymore. They say it gets easier on day 3 but clearly not for me because I’m miserable 😖. Any tips? -
I am 8 months post op. I am seeing my numbers creep up. Than I drink protein shakes and yogurt for the weekend and they go back down. Is there like a pouch reset? I keep hearing people talk about this and I am not sure what that is. Frustrated but still am trying to not eat the bad stuff that is creeping back into my everyday snacking. I need help.

Eating too fast, not chewing enough, or???
CurvyMom replied to CurvyMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NO this is full on throwing up everyting in my pouch- like today's breakfast of yogurt and blueberries, I still cannot drink water because it hurts every time I try--then i wait and have to force myself to throw up and it's almost like I have to really try to get the food out. it's hard to explain but I feel like i have something stuck...then out comes whatever (in this case blueberries all chewed up UGH). this sucks! -
Eating too fast, not chewing enough, or???
CurvyMom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just getting opinions BEFORE I decide if I want to email the doctor's office. I call them about two weeks ago and they never called me back, so I figure I would get opinions here before I waste time calling them 6 weeks P.O today.....allowed all foods. I have been eating yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken salad....etc. Added in occassionally- blue berries, some raw veggies, some cooked veggies. I have had some experience with what I assumed was eating too fast/too much and/or not chewing enough and eventually i have to throw up to feel better. the past week, i have throw up almost every meal with protein in it unless it was yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna (although once I threw that up), chicken salad yesterday. This morning I feel like i have blue berries stuck and threw up a few time already. These berries were soooooo small. Smaller than my normal pills I can swallow without being sick. two days ago i threw up salmon and green beans (maybe the beans?), then yesterday I threw up my lunch which was rotisserie chiicken (but there was definitely a piece of chicken stuck for hours...so I know i didnt chew it enough- cuz i saw it later TMI SORRY)..... any suggestions? Shoudl I just slow the hell down and go back to soft only and stop trying proteins that are "denser"....I really don't think I have a stricture though because I am able to keep down plain cottage cheese, plain yogurt, liquids ...etc but who am I to know. I am also not losing any weight right now which could be that I"m just not getting enough protein in or I am just stalled- but my primary issue is the vomitting almost every day. -
Traveling abroad and diet
MMME replied to angie_is_losing_it's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in Australia but traveled to Canada for a week only 5 weeks post op. On the plane I asked for whatever meal was protein (eggs for the breakfast, chicken for the dinner) and only ate what I could. Once there I had no problem at all finding foods I could eat. I'm now nearly 6 months post op and just returned from Canada - again! (I'm Canadian and had to go home as my mom was unwell) On my flights I only ate the protein portions of meals, i.e. yogurt, meat, egg. I drank water pretty much constantly unless I was sleeping. My partner and I are going to the UK for 5 weeks in August/September with a stop in Dubai for 3 days. I'm not worried about what we'll eat at all. -
Traveling abroad and diet
GreenTealael replied to angie_is_losing_it's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my experience if you haunt the markets you can find staples just like we have domestically. Eggs, meat, veg, fruit, milk, yogurt, cheese, ...etc. You will be able to control your diet environment a little better that way. While dining out, take away will be your friend. But question preparation methods to avoid excess unnecessary cals or possible no go foods like high sugar content sauces. England should not be terribly challenging. Drink tons of water, take tons of pics... Enjoy vacay❤ -
Protein Shakes after surgery
DanaC84 replied to Timberleah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
But if you’re hitting your protein goals without them and you hate them, why bother? On those days you’re not quite hitting your goals maybe do a yogurt or string cheese or cottage cheese or any type of protein you actually like. This road is rough enough without having to force yourself into something you truly dislike. But I do get how easy of a grab and go they are. Have you tried any of the protein waters? The brand I was drinking pre op makes me gag now (so I totally get it!!) Good luck and let us know what you find! -
I'm having this same problem and am also 7 days today this morning I tried some yogurt it went down easily and tasted great but I really paid for it afterward the only liquid that I'm able to drink enough of without feeling so so thirsty is those little caprisun packets Sent from my BND-L34 using BariatricPal mobile app

hello. i have been sampling many protein shakes. being a guy who is undergoing surgery soon, flavor is very important. if i cant drink something while i recuperate, then how do i keep faithful to the requirements of surgery? im not trying to sell you on something for a company. but im dropping this link. its very high in protein because im a former athlete at 6'3" and i dont want to lose all muscle because of the work i do. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UNK7LM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on the premier protein. i have the vanilla flavored. it tastes horrible by itself. my mother in law who also had the surgery drinks it with yogurt. i drink it with a packet of agave sugar. and it tastes like a vanilla shake from mcdonalds. i recommend it for diets under this stipulation. it does not taste good by itself. you can certainly drink the premade shakes but financially its cheaper to buy the powder on amazon and it comes in a big size. i have tried fitcrunch as well. its expensive for the size but the taste is pretty good. a little sweet for my taste though. these are my opinions on products. good luck!

I need to talk about constipation post op
2Bsmaller18 replied to Gottajustdoit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I initially had to take milk of magnesia 2-3x a day once I moved on from liquids. Now if it’s been 30 hours I take a half to full dose to keep things regular. My doctor didn’t allowed potatoes until 4 months out and no fruit veggies or applesauce. That may be causing the issue too. I have 1 shake, one yogurt, a laughing cow soft cheese then about 2 ounces of tuna or an egg. I’m also really strict with drinking at least 64 oz of fluids. The thing that I think helps me most is eating a quarter cup of retried beans. It’s basically my only source of fiber so if it’s been 24 hours that’s what I eat. Now I only need to take the milk of magnesia 1-2 x week. I had tried a stool softner a few days after surgery and hope to never do that again. I was miserable with cramping. -
Hi there, welcome to the group!!!! It gets better. I had RNY 1/25/19. I felt the same way for the good part of my recovery. I healed a little slower than average as well. It does get better. I worked on my fluids, protein and eating a little more. I was not consuming nearly enough. Once I made those adjustments my body kicked it together. I began to feel better around three wks ago. I’m now down 50 lbs. Stay encouraged it does get better. I also upped my b12. As it helps with energy. Good luck on your journey. I had trouble eating and still do, at these times I don’t even want to eat. But I stick with it an sometimes even end up replacing my meal with a yogurt. Whatever healthy you can get in there.

3/12 here. Doing great. Just started eating black bean soup and yogurt and protein drinks yesterday after 3 days clear liquids. I have no pain most of the time. I’m able to do laundry. I get tired easy. I take a few naps now and then. How are you?

Sounds like I need to learn how to like yogurt as it has a lot of protein and you all are swearing by it. I just haven't found it attractive up until now.

Never thought of staining yogurt

I just wanted to share my surgery experience as it seems very, very different than most I have seen and I don't want others to feel alone! My hospital experience was scary, but since then it has been great! So there is hope! The Scary Part On 2/25 I had my gastric bypass/RNY surgery. The plan was that I would stay one night and be discharged in the morning. I had the surgery, woke up feeling okay, and fairly quickly I got out of bed and took a short walk. I went back to rest and about four hours later told my mom I was feeling "weird." Within a few minutes, my eyes rolled back and I passed out in my hospital bed. I don't remember a lot after that, but here's what I've been told... The nurses came and got me stabilized. I woke back up and wanted to go to the restroom. They started to raise the head of the bed so I could get up.... and I passed out again immediately. Cue mad rush of people, changing rooms, going to ICU, blood tests, and eventually figuring out I had an internal bleed. My surgeon was called in around 2am for an emergency surgery to figure out what was going on. Turns out the bleed was not near my stomach or anything, but somehow they nicked a fat/muscle tissue area on the way in. I lost a lot of blood and they first gave me a bag during surgery. They continued to monitor me. Two days later my blood count was still very low. I received a blood transfusion of 2 more bags. It took another day, but finally my blood count was high enough that the doc said I could go home. I was home for about 2 hours.... and started to bleed profusely. On the way to the ER I soaked through five layers of kitchen towel and was seriously freaking out. I get there and not only am I bleeding, but I have a fever, so now they are concerned about an infection. After 5 hours in the ER, consulting with the surgeon on call, more IV fluids, and some Tylenol, my fever was down and I was told the bleeding was normal due to my internal bleed and to expect it for the next few days. The Good Part After returning home, I had very minor pain that I controlled with Tylenol for two days and then didn't require meds. I had very low energy, but I started walking immediately, 10 minutes at a time. 3 times a day for the first couple days, then 8 times a day. I drank lots of water, broth, and had about 70 grams of protein per day through shakes made with Canadian Protein (who I highly, highly recommend). I saw my doctor about 6 days later. My blood count was still on the low side, but acceptable, and everything else looked great! He approved me for pureed foods and soft scrambled eggs. I was told I didn't have a minimum number of calories, but to not go over around 700 ish. I could have 5-7 small meals, starting around 2-4 tablespoons. And to keep up the walking and he would see me in a month. I wasn't hungry, but I was excited so I almost right away had some refried beans. I ate about 3 tablespoons over the course of half an hour. About an hour later, I had a terrible side stitch that made me want to hunch over, but other than that I was okay. I ate a little bit of plain yogurt that evening and had the same side stitch. But the next morning I had a little yogurt... and was fine! Since then, I've had almost no hunger at all. I get my 2 protein shakes totally about 70 grams of protein, and I've been having 2 or 3 very small meals of yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, or a Laughing Cow cheese wedge. Honestly, I only eat that much because I know I should, not because I'm hungry. I have had ZERO vomiting, ZERO dumping syndrome, almost no nausea, no "foamies," and really no side effects. I'm a little tired still and shakey, like I'll get a little lightheaded if I stand up too quickly, but other than that I feel GREAT. I am 2 days shy of being 3 weeks out and I have lost 28 pounds already! I was prepared for lots of pain and vomiting and everything else, but have not had it at all. I've followed the rules very strictly, but I know a bit part of it is luck. So for anyone scared, be positive and know that not every experience is a horror story! There is hope!
