  1. Hi Shannon, I had the band done march 25th in mexico with dr. ortiz, very good experience, I finally got to start eating real food this week as he is pretty conservative and we stay on full liquids for 3 weeks post op, since starting my pre op diet, I have lost 25lbs but figure I will hover around here at my current weight till I get my fills, I had also lost some weight prior to the preop diet, so I am actually down 59 so far. The part I am finding the most difficult is not being able to drink with my meals.

  2. Anna,

I just wanted to thank you for posting your story on the "weight problems as a child?" thread. It really touched me. I wish you the best of luck in your journey...and if you ever need to talk/rant to anyone, I am also just starting out so feel free to message me. I wish you the best!

  3. you know im trying to get the hang of the site.. with the diffrent ways u can send messages and things.. so plz forgive me for the late response.. I have done extensive research on the weight loss... the saftey level and such.. and one thing I want is something that is going to assist me I know im going to have to put forth a great deal of effort as well...

  4. I just wanted you to know that I have read some of your blogs and you are really an inspiration to me. I am starting out at approximately the same weight you did and I know that with what all you have accomplished for yourself that I too can reach the goals I have set for myself.

    Thank you,

    Amy

  5. Well, I went to the seminar on Saturday and was very excited to be getting started. But, they called me today to let me know my insurance has an "exclusion" for any type of weight loss surgery :(

They provided me w/the total cost if I decide to pay out-of-pocket. I'm discouraged and very dis appointed.

  6. You and I are in the same boat :-)... except you're a few steps ahead of me. I'm 230 and I so badly want to be 125 again. I'm befriending you... it'll be fun and helpful to follow someones progress who has almost the same start weight and goal.

  7. Hey Lora, I'm notreal sure how a buddy list works but we can be buddies & find out. Dr.de la Torre doesn't require a pre-op diet but I'm watching what I eat to a degree. I figure I'll have the rest of my life to lose the weight so there's no big hurry. Where is Mo. Bariatrics located? Keep in touch.

  8. Hi Cheryl

OK what's more important to you?? Your health or some flabby skin ??

The whole skin issue is about your DNA - how much fat you have and how long the skin has been stretched. Ya I have some - I got a little flap on my tummy - thighs look like they belong to an 80 yr old and my arms really bug me. But most of my imperfections can be covered up with a good bra - spanks and shirts will sleeves. I am not walking around naked - so who really cares

I love the way I feel - I love buying size 10 clothes. I feel ten yrs young - so ya I will take the flabby skin - cuz I hopefully going to live a few extra years now that I have lost almost all my weight.

That's what is important to me and heck I am 53 yrs old

I am NEVER going to have the body of a 20 yr old again.

Also, that what plastic surgeons are for - Tummy tuck - breast augmentations etc...

    Good Luck...

  9. hey meshell, congratulations. i have a question to ask, i recently got banded and my doc is extremely conservative with the fill. i had the band 4 mths and klost 1 lb. i have a 10cc band and only 1cc fill. how did you lose the weight

  10. hey, this might be weird but i just really need someone around my age as a support system to lose this weight. all my friends are super skinny and as much as they say they understand i know they don't. if this is totally weird no worries lol .

no harm in asking right?!!? lol

    -Heather

  17. It has been a week and a half since surgery and I have lost only about 8 pounds. From what I have seen and heard from others about their weight loss, this doesn't seem like the norm. What am I doing wrong?

I'd rather lose the 8 lbs than gain 8 pounds....lose the word "only" when it comes to losing weight because "only" minimizes your awesome accomplishment.

  18. I am SO SO SO confused!!!! From day one the doctor told me I was having a revision!! He was going to do a combination of a bypass and DS because of my BMI. So since June I thought I had a DS... (surgery was actually done by another doctor in his office)....today I found out that I had a Malabsorbtion Bypass and no DS???? So all the study and research I did on the DS was in vain!!!!! He told me that the reason I was doing the DS was that the greater percentage of weight loss and the lower percentage of likely hood to gain it back!!!! Right now I am just numb!!! I have a call into his office to find out why??? and why I wasn't told???? This may make sense as to why I still can eat!!!!

  19. I hit 260 lbs today, I haven't been that low in years. I'm so happy. I can actually see some of the weight off my body especially in my legs, boobs, and a small bit in the tummy area.

Congrats! 260 will be a red letter for me... I was at 250 in my twenties, and when I can get back there I will consider the surgery as being a total success.

  20. Is Weight Watcher considered a supervised diet program? I have BCBS of Iowa and I am uncertain if they will only approve "medically" supervised nutrition classes.

    1. pink dahlia

      pink dahlia

I have had BCBS for many years, they approved of my previous 1 year on WW as one of their requirements..They approved it all, I was banded Dec 2011. Happy and successfull , so far so good !

Pink Dahlia, that is good to hear. I considered the band a few years ago, but I chickened out completely! It wasn't until a few months ago that I reconsidered having weight loss surgery again. Thank you for responding and much continued success to you. :)

  21. slow slow slow.. 206 two month post op. weight when i left the hospital 219. 13lbs two month after sleeve.

I feel ya. I am 1 month and 4 days out and it's slower than I thought it'd be. I know we're not supposed to compare ourselves to anyone else's progress but it's hard not to. We just have to stick to doing it right. Here's to more losing!

    2. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

I know it's not fair that you are progressing so slowly, but losing slowly is still losing. Hang in there and you'll eventually reach your goal.

  22. My weight loss has stalled the last two weeks and it's only been a month since my surgery. I'm down 27 lbs so I shouldn't complain but I'm getting upset about it moving so slow.

    1. JJ Schlic

      JJ Schlic

I am in the same boat. My surgery was June 24. Initially I was losing 1 pound/day, but I realize that a lot of that was fluid and swelling from the surgery. Now I am at about 1 pound/every 3 days. My complaint is that I am still very low energy and nauseas. I was hoping that with nearly 30 pounds gone and 5 weeks post op, I would have been feeling better.

I was very lucky that the surgery recovery was smooth sailing. No nausea and started eating solids week two as per the doc. I'm feeling good. I just thought the weight would fall off but you know what? It took years to gain it all so losing it will take time. Doc said it's better to lose 2 lbs a week than lose it fast and your skin sags. I weighed myself this morning and I finally dropped 2 lbs so I guess it will work out. Keep me posted on your progress.

  23. I weighed in at 211 today. my lowest weight in over ten years.

I am the same way. No major weight losses since the first month out, just slow, slow, slow, and steady. No weight gains - good, but no major weight losses either.
