    What if

honestly, there are a LOT more people who never make it to goal than there are those who make it. And only about 10-15% make it to a normal BMI (most people who are successful end up in the "overweight" or "class 1 obese" category (which is WAY better than being 100 lbs or more overweight!)) if you're one of the ones who makes it that far, though (and some of us do....), you can always stop the loss by increasing your calories. I was one of the ones who made it to a normal BMI, and my loss just sort of stopped on its own. keep in mind that most of us experience a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting our lowest weight, so consider that if you feel like you're getting too thin. I eventually put on 20 lbs after hitting bottom, which in my case was a good thing. P.S. class 1 obesity is defined as a BMI of 30-34.9. So...not very obese. I started out around a 60 BMI, so I would have been totally happy if I'd even made it to that range!

    Please Help, Advice Needed!

I'm just started my puree diet today and I was worried about the same thing. I had my surgery on the 26th of July and I lost about 10 pounds pre-op, and I lost about 20 pounds since my surgery. I would hate to see the scale go up, but I understand that my body is just running its course to get back to "normal."

    June Surgeries

I had surgery June 21st and I am down 31 lbs. since surgery. I had the dreaded 'stall' for an entire 3 weeks! My scale just started moving again 10 days ago and it has been consistently decreasing, albeit at a slower rate than right after surgery. Even through the stall I weighed myself everyday and I am learning to take it as a data point, just like recording my food, water, or exercise. In other forums many have said that more stalls will come. For me, I just want to be consistent in my actions, regardless of scale victories. It is great to hear about everyone's progress!

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

Hi I’m new here. I have a gastric sleeve 10 days ago I’m feeling great

    Bypass experience days 1-3

You might want to look into nasal pillows (the thing that goes up your nose, instead of covering your nose like a nasal mask). That's the only kind of mask I can use. Get a chin strap to keep your mouth closed. And... this is the most important thing... look up how to turn off the "ramp" on your CPAP/BiPAP/APAP. The ramp is the thing that starts the flow slowly and builds it up over 5, 10, 15, or even 30 minutes. It is awful. I feel like I'm suffocating the entire time. When you turn off the ramp, it takes five seconds or so for the machine to rev up, and then I snap the nasal cannula into place and can breathe normally.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I set an initial weight of 180 - as going into this I said I wanted to lose at least 60lbs. (The goal would be 65 from my starting weight) Ultimately though, I would love to get to 160-165. Down 36.6 thus far. I’m on week 10 post-op.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

Great point. I am scheduled for surgery in a few week and I am wondering the same thing. I guess my expectation was that the weight will be much more rapid although my brain tells me that is unrealistic. The weight went on pretty slowly over a long period of time so 10-15 pounds a month is pretty damned good. That mean over 100 pounds in a year.

    Too much??

I agree with everything Arabesque said. Get on top of this before it gets out of control. Start tracking your food again if you've stopped doing that. I still track mine at over six years out because I know from my past history that once I stop monitoring myself fairly regularly, things can spin out of control quickly. It's much easier to lose five or ten or even twenty pounds than 50. And by the way - regaining is unfortunately VERY common. We stop paying as close attention - we're not as vigilante as we were the first year out of surgery - diet fatigue sets in - bad habits start to creep back in. A 10% regain (10-20 lbs) from our lowest weight is extremely common. I knew that going in and factored it in to my goal. My struggle now (and probably for the rest of my life) is keeping it from going higher than that.

    Help needed

it's not everyone else's body, it's yours. You do what YOU want to do. If you're comfortable with the way you look, or if you want to lose a few more pounds, then do it a couple of thoughts: many of us who end up losing most (or all) of our excess weight look pretty gaunt at first, but then the fat sort of redistributes over time, and we look a lot better (as in not as gaunt. We look healthier). Also, many of us also regain about 10% of our loss (so 10-20 lbs) in the second or third year post-surgery - without much effort on our part. I purposely went about 10 lbs under my goal to account for the eventual regain (and yes - I DID experience the regain during year 3...it's unfortunately very common) also - hair. The loss will eventually stop and it'll grow back. I lost hair from months 6-9, and it all grew back.

    It happened- I got canceled

I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to me last year. I was like 3 days or so out from my appointment and it was cancelled because of covid and then again because they wanted clearance from a cardiologist before they put me under anesthesia. It's so heartbreaking. I gained weight back and then it was almost cancelled again because it was much higher than my starting weight. If i was any more than 10 lbs over my initial weigh in, they'd cancel it the day of... like someone stated earlier, use this for fuel. Use this time to try to work on and hone your post-surgery skills. I hope this all works out for you!
  13. Well I was chatting on another topic and I just remembered this dance game I used to play on occasion that was super fun. My husband said it was on Xbox But they seem to have the game for PlayStation as well. If I remember correctly it got my heart rate up pretty well (probably why I stopped playing when I was heavy, Lol). Anyways he just ordered an older Xbox on eBay since we don’t have that one anymore. I googled it and I’m pretty sure the game is called just dance. I thought maybe you have a game console. I bet the kids would love to play that with grandma. You know the nurse practitioner at my surgery center said for cardio it’s okay to break it up to 10 minute increments. You just don’t want to do less than ten minutes or there isn’t much benefit. I also tried a Zumba beginner class on you tube that was pretty fun. Perhaps if you find something like that you may enjoy you would be more apt to make time for it. Idk. Just thought I’d share. Hope it helps.

What are you looking forward to ?

10 years ago when I smoked and was fat, the doctors always said, deal with the smoking first, your weight is secondary to that. Now all the problems that they blamed on my smoking are now because of my weight .... I gave up smoking and in the last 10 years have gained 80 pounds. I gradually stopped going to see them unless its an emergency. Why should we be treated so differently. Is it a power trip for them because they know we have zero confidence from years of abuse ? lizonaplane and candace76 I know your hurt

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Hi, I am scheduled August 23, 2021 for gastric sleeve surgery. I’m both scared and excited! I had Lap Band surgery in 2009 and lost 80lbs. I felt great and I loved the way I looked. A few months back I had the Lap Band removed and over the past several years I’ve put on 50lbs between not going to the gym during COVID-19 and the extra weight makes it difficult to get around. However I was just reading the thread on what you are looking forward to most after your surgery and I must say I was very encouraged by what I read!
  20. Nope haven’t changed a thing. I had sleeve surgery 27 months ago & my gall removed three months ago. You’ll already be keeping your fat intake low & that’s really all you need to do. They often recommend eating smaller meals more frequently but you’re likely doing that too. The thing to be aware of is that without a gall bladder, bile is released continuously into your digestive system now. Consequently you may experience some diarrhoea. It usually only lasts a couple of weeks but can be a couple of months. I still have it about once every 10 or so days. But it’s a little different. I get more like a dull pain in my lower abdomen versus a crampy feeling as a warning. My sister-in-law says she gets a diarrhoea attack about once a month since hers was removed 18months ago. She thinks it’s because the bile builds up & her body says enough.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I got 10 days low fat, all I want to do is eat sweets and I’m not a sweets person, ate a chewy sweet earlier and broke a tooth 🦷 so that will teach me, now a visit and expense of dentist !!
  22. Three and a half years later, I got a notification that there's new traffic on this thread so I'll check back in. I find Hopscotch's response very reasonable. "Karen" references aside (perhaps we can all agree to focus on our health and well being and leave our politics at the door), I think that success is found somewhere in between obsession and moderation. My own path has led me through struggles with returning to food as something other than a source for nutrition. When I use food or drink as entertainment or as a social or emotional tool, that's when I fall into trouble. When I approach food as the way to provide my body with the energy and nutrients it needs to be healthy, that's when I'm more successful on this path. 2020-and-a-half has not been my best year (no surprise!). All things considered, it wasn't a disaster for me and in many ways it has been a reasonable road. I am trying to lose my "Pandemic 10" right now. Some changes I'm making include cutting back on alcohol (entertainment & relaxation) and nuts (entertainment & emotional). I was alcohol-free for the first year after surgery, and I've never been much of a drinker. Now I'm trying to get back to that. If you can honestly look at what's going into your body and why it's going in, your path will be more successful. If that mindfulness eludes you, it will continue to be a struggle. Those changes force me to face what I'm avoiding when I indulge in them. Usually, it's uncomfortable feelings - lack of productivity, self-worth, accomplishment, etc., or tasks or situations I'm avoiding in my life. As with anyone here, I'm not an expert. I'm just a guy trying to do my best. If any of this helps you, great. If it doesn't, then I hope you find more value elsewhere. Good luck, everyone!
  23. I posted this on a different thread, but wanted to share. Not sure why the revision has been so successful for me, but I'm loving the results. Here are my stats over my 6 year journey. Highest weight May 2012 - 222 lbs. Gastric sleeve surgery weight November 2014 - 212 lbs. Lowest weight post sleeve May 2015 - 151 post op 6 months (61 lbs. lost) Highest weight prior to revision surgery January 2019 - 205 lbs. (54 lbs. gained) Weight day of revision surgery October 2020 - 185 lbs. Current weight August 2021 (10 months post op) - 128 lbs. (57 lbs. lost) I hope that I never have to add a line that says I've gained weight back again!!!! Good luck on your journey!!!!
  24. Same here. I keep telling my husband if I just stay on a liquid diet I don’t need the surgery, right? Lol. But I’m doing it. I should have done it 10 years ago. I’m not spending another year in the miserable state I’m in now.
  25. I can't speak for everyone, but given the bariatric community is composed of mainly obese to morbidly obese individuals, even if undiagnosed, I would bet the vast majority of people have some sort of fatty liver, liver disease, NASH, etc. My surgeon said virtually as much at one of our appointments. I also asked her about whether she would abort the surgery if my liver was too fatty (she would), but she said that she had no worries about me, because I'd been losing weight prior to surgery (which it looks like you are), I did the pre-op liquid diet for 10 days (sounds like you are going to do at least some length of liquid diet), and she said generally people who have livers too fatty to actually do surgery have BMIs in the 60s. You don't have your stats listed, but assuming that is you in your profile picture, it doesn't seem that you are in that category.
