1. Sleeved 12/19/12. Lost 32 since 12/3/12 preop start. Husband has lost 55 since preop and sleeve of same dates. More than just the loss of weight - we both feel better physically and more in control of our lifestyle as we move forward. Happy healthy new year to all of you.

What should I do?

I debated telling everyone myself, but decided against it at the last minute. To me its a very personal choice and I didn't want to open myself up to negativity or judgement. I told about 10 people who are close to me, and already 2 are acting weird around me and not being so supportive. Your friends & family might be totally different and very supportive, this is just what I did. I did this for me, not for anyone else!
3. Congrats on making it half way! I voted 10% - any weight loss with the band is worth celebrating because in many cases and with reasonable effort, its weight that will never come back.
4. They monitored what went in and what went out! The nurse set up 10 1oz cups of water. When I drank those she brought in 10 more. She saved the empty cups and left them on the gray. When I reach 50oz in one day she said I was good to go and would likely be released from the hospital. They basically want to make sure you are able to hydrate with no nausea or other issues. Not sure why they kept track of what went "out."
5. @@BobbyD - walmart also carries a greek yogurt in four packs that are 80 calories. Not as many varieties but I love the strawberry cheesecake! You can add Protein to bump up the content, but watch the sugars and calories as well. I was told to try to get single digit grams of sugar or under (1-9 grams) and double digit protein (10 or better)

Post-OP

Well had my surgery today at 10, was home by 2! I really don't remember much, every one was very nice and I never felt nervous or the "what have I gotten myself into's" Not a whole lot of gas or pressure pains that I was expecting, I feel like I have had a c-section tho! My pain meds are keeping it at bay tho. I had a bout of hiccups that about put me under, but they quickly passed... Im surprised about the fact that I cant tell the band is there, I was afraid to swallow, I didn't want to feel that restriction right off, and so far I havent! Drinking 6 oz of watered down juice every hour as per dr.'s order along w/some other clear liquids for the week, then back to protien shakes..!! Whoo whoo!
7. Check out some of the recipes I created while on my 6 week full liquids. Ignoring the peanut butter ones, of course. I also got chest pains with the heaviness of some things like peanut butter if I was not careful and had too much. Once I started doing this I was getting more than my recommended 60grams a day. Some of them are pushing the limits a bit, but most of them were a true life saver, as I never found myself getting desperate for real food!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Weight Loss Tools
J’s High Protein Full liquid Recipes PHASE 2: Full liquid diet This starts 1 day after surgery NOTE: On the Full Liquid Diet, up to 6-8oz per meal is OK for 3-6 meals a day with lots of water and mini 2-4oz Snacks in between (snacks are optional, but can create slower weight loss). Make sure to drink LOTS of water. The bulk of your fullness should be water. Stop before feeling full. I am consistently losing weight with these measurements. Remember to drink or eat very slowly. You can train yourself by using tiny baby spoons. The point of this 6 week plan, I am told is partly to shrink your stomach and get you prepared for the first band tightening where you will be limited to very tiny amounts. The doc wants you to get bored of these foods, because after the 6 weeks, you go strictly to solids and water. No more mushy or liquids. All of my recipes include ingredients that can be found at most Whole Foods Markets, Trader Joes or Meijers Grocery. Organic products are all optional, but I (from recent experience) highly recommend for those wanting a more rapid weight loss or healthier system in general. Using skim milk over cream or any other dairy milk will speed it up as well. The nut milks are a great way to sneak in even more nutrients. Most grocery stores carry these organic products now, but you have to look for them. *All my high fat recipes include only healthy or beneficial fats that have not been processed and do not include any hydrogenated oils. Please check the nutrition labels before purchasing any ingredients.* My Personal Tips for More Rapid Weight Loss Using the Liquid Recipes: 1. Use my snack recipes only once a day 2. 8. I'm currently on my pre-op diet which is a 1000 calorie a day mostly liquid diet. I am allowed to have shakes (Muscle Milk Lite), which is absolutely atrocious because of the after taste. I was convinced it was not bad and I bought $150 worth of it to last me the 2 weeks. Also I am allowed to have 2cups of vegetables a day which is my splurge of a iceberg lettuce for dinner. It's day 2 and I'm down from 373lbs to 363lbs, 10 pounds in 2 days, I don't know if it's bad to lose that much weight or is it normal. It's very sad but I can't wait for my surgery and I can't wait till I'm able to eat some scrambled eggs when I get eat soft food....

Things I Didn't Know Before Weight Loss Surgery

You know, I hadn't realized the part about skinny people being more supportive than not, but that explains why I have received so much support - everyone around me (even at work) is pretty thin / healthy. I have been so blessed to have incredible support from my friends and coworkers. (There is one friend that isn't but I knew she wouldn't be. She's just like that about everything medical.) Interesting observation... I tell EVERYONE (and I mean everyone - perfect strangers - about my surgery). I guess I figure if I don't act embarrassed of it and get it out there before someone says something, then I have the upper hand? I don't know. Like you, I don't quite grasp that I have lost over 100 pounds; however, mine is because I never really understood how heavy I was. (Crazy, I know.) So just probably the last 10 pounds or so have I realized that not only do I look different but I am actually starting to look - gasp - THIN! Concentrate on those NSV's. That is why we all did this - off the meds, better dr visits, fit in the plane seat, smaller clothes, etc. Those are the things that will help you realize the weight that is gone (said I after going to a movie today and realizing how nice it was to fit in that seat!) I too do not like the excess skin but constantly find myself staring in the mirror trying to decide just how bad it is. Most of it is covered up - except for the turkey neck and that BOTHERS me to no end. I will have my arms done if nothing else because I have always wanted to wear sleeveless (without the requisite cami over it). I can completely understand being anxious about your wedding dress, but girl, you are getting married and from the sounds of it to a wonderful person, so I agree with @@Valentina, spread your wings and fly! Congrats or your progress!
10. Meeting either with a group or independently with a therapist is very important in preparing yourself changing your eating habits and new relationship with food. I had to attend three sessions but they were once a week for 3 weeks. Another thing to consider is that many doctors require a % of body weight loss. My doctor required 10% that could take you 3 months as well. No body likes to weight but those therapy sessions are something to embrace.

Vitamin D deficient and anemic. Yikes

Yes, they started me on a weekly Vitamin D supplement. Yogurt is very slow for me to go down. I can eat it for a snack over a period of 10-15 minutes or so, but not with a regular meal.

13. I am 5 weeks post op and starting to feel really good about myself again. I 24. As a young woman, I always had curves but they were all in the right places but about 10 yrs ago, it became harder and harder to loose weight and the old tricks(including diet pills) became less effective. About 4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with a begin pituitary tumor which caused my body to produce excess amounts of prolactin(hyperolactinemia). Essentially your body thinks your pregnant. Even though the condition became controlled with medicine. Losing weight remained an issue and I slowly creeped up from 185 to 214over 4 years and just couldnt get out of the 200s. Fast forward to today, I'm down 18 pounds post op and starting to notice results. I attended an anniversary party yesterday and was able to wear a medium. I bought the same dress earlier this summer but needed an extra large. And at the dinner and in general I'm able to skip past the rice, pasta and potatoes and make those healthy choices of baked chicken or fish and veggies and salads etc. And its not hard; it has become a way of life for me that I have been able to embrace. So excited about what my new weight lose journey will bring! I know it will take time but I really feel like I can do it[emoji5] Sleeved 8/10/17 HT: 5'2 HW: 214 SW: 212 CW: 194 Goal: 155

How did you feel after your first fill?

Since I got decent re-fill (I had been unfilled for a while) I am unable to eat much of anything before 10:30 a.m. I CAN drink some really good 1/2 a cup of fat-free milk, 1/2 a cup of coffee w/ a scoop or so of no-sugar-added vanilla powder. It's so much fun, that eating Breakfast isn't even an issue. Sue *now dealing with the fact that I can eat late in the day*
15. I just got a call from one of my doctor's nurses, and she said that my band date may have to be rescheduled from 02/10 to a later date due to rolling blackouts (maybe the end of the month?!?!). All of the surgeries that they had on schedule for today were cancelled, and they anticipate the same for tomorrow (however, I'll probably still have my pre-op consultation with my doctor...which is good -- I just have to call them tomorrow morning to make sure they are open). What would bump me later is all of the procedures that are cancelled (they have schedule priority first). I've never ever encountered rolling blackouts in my area (we are currently experiencing a hard freeze and some Water lines at the local power plants have broken). The hospitals, fire, and police departments are fine -- but smaller centers like the surgicenter where I'm supposed to be banded have been affected. I guess I'm just disappointed...sorry to vent. It's just hard to work towards something, have a date on the calendar, and then possibly have it taken away for a later date. Boo. I think the pre-op diet has made me a little cranky. LoL.

Morning tummy is smaller?

I had sleeve surgery in July and I still do not like to eat much at all in the mornings. Even water, to me, is uncomfortable until about 10-11 am. Doc says it's normal, and for some it goes away and for others that's just an adjustment you have to deal with. I don't like eggs so I can't help you there, sorry! My mom who had lap band a few years back has the same issue about eating in the mornings as well. Good Luck!

Vitamins

I've always taken Centrum (or the generic equivalent from CVS or Walgreens). I started with the chewables and after a few months moved to the regular tablets. I guess you could check with your clinic to see if it's OK for you to move to tablets. I think I was about six months out before I did, but then again, at 10 weeks out I was taking other supplements in tablet form, so maybe ...??

Started My Pre-Op Weight Loss

Yeah...before this process my day consisted of waking up anywhere from 8-10 am and drink coffee and smoke my cigs till around 6-8 pm then have dinner. I had to get use to eating lunch and dinner. I still don't do breakfast instead I have a protein drink
20. Wow 20 lbs! My doctor gave me a limit of 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks. I would call your doctor since you are having new pain. They may be able to just ease your mind
21. I had surgery 6/3/10 and I was losing weight through out June and July. Pre-op and the weight i lost during the two months is about 30 lbs. But August I actually gained weight. I got a fill later in August and I am up to 5ccs in a 10cc band. I feel A LOT of restriction, and i eat a lot less. I also work out monday-friday. I lost 2 lbs right after my fill... but nothing since. I dont understand. I dont want to get another fill and be uncomfortable. I am kinda discouraged. Does anyone have any suggestions?
22. I had my IUD taken out in February and I have gained 10 lbs. I knew I had gained 5 but I got on this morning and I am up 10 lbs! I am sick over this.
23. I was banded on 10/29. I had the very same pain, only on the right side. It was very low and the pain came in waves like contractions. I sure it was gas because I am just now getting over the gas pains.

It's only been 10 months postop? 185lbs lost and counting

Thanks everyone! I still have 40 more lbs to go. And I owe it all to the great preparation my Bariatric Center provided me with before having the gastric sleeve done. I actually lost 130 in 10 months, the other 60ish was required to lose before my insurance would pay for the surgery and it took me all of 2011 to lose that! I'll post what my typical meals are daily in another post!

this and that

I tell you what that was a really great self esteem moment for me. I haven't been this thin in over 10 years and even though I still have a ways to go I'm already feeling so much better about myself and the way I look.
