5 days Post op and cheated

There was a lady on here that ate 5 flaming Cheetos only 9 days post op so it happens. The thing is, you know it was a slip so just don’t do it again. The biggest reason isn’t really calories, it’s the fact that your new stomach is healing. Don’t want to accidentally mess cause a medical issue ya know? I know the protein shakes suck. Could you thin out yogurt with milk maybe? I’d talk to my doctor to see what I could do instead. Good luck!

Oh ok. Which surgery did you have? I had the sleeve. I’m doing good with liquid but I was aloud Greek yogurt sugar free pudding cream soups. By the 3rd day. Did you not get that option?

One week post op today, down 4kgs which is crazy. I'm not focused on protein during the liquid stage, just hydration. Next week it'll become a focus. I've tried adding protein powder to my broths and it's just not working. I don't need pain meds now, I haven't slept well the past 3 nights though needing to change positions. Hopefully as incisions continue to heal that stops. I ordered an instant pot at 50% off yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive so I can meal prep for the next 2 weeks. Ordered lots of containers too. I can't wait to eat again, don't care that it's pureed lol.

I’m just alittle sore from the incisions. Also it’s really hard to consume the 60oz of liquids, water is kind of hard to go down. I also can’t meet my protein goal, the consistency doesn’t sit well. I burp a lot as well lol. How is your liquid diet going? I think I’m struggling more mentally than physically.
  5. I’m having a super hard time continuing to drink these protein shakes, I’m sick of them. I cheated by chewing a fry and telling myself I’m going to spit it out which I did but very little went down. now I’m freaking out!! Anyone effed up like I did smh?

Why is it rough? I had mine the 11th and I’m doing great. Haven’t used pain meds. Haven’t had much pain either. I walk a lot. The only thing I can say is today it was hard to meet my protein goal. I was not hungry really. And I burp a lot lol. But gasx helps.

  8. HELP! I can't find an unflavored protein that's not funky. I've tried Unjury and Isopure. Both make me nauseous. The only one I like is collagen, and my diet doesn't allow for that to be a primary protein source.

    Meal delivery service?

Store bought Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice frozen meals are another option and listed in my allowable food choices depending on carb and fat counts. Small meals and usually at or below 300 calories. I don't work outside the home so I cook my own meals, but these would seem convenient on occasion for someone with a busy schedule or doesn't want to cook.
  10. Hi here is my story I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in 2014 with hiatal hernia repair with the intent to loose weight to boost my fertility as we had been trying to have a baby for almost 2 years. I found myself pregnant 3 months later. It was not my intention to get pregnant so soon after surgery but we were thrilled. I did end up loosing about 120 pounds over all. Here I am 9 years and 3 babies later However I got back up to 286lbs. I am 36 years old and we decided we are done having biological children so I wanted to try and start my weight loss journey again. Reached back out to my bariatric office, and they scheduled an EGD to check out my sleeve and investigate as I do have heart burn. They found I had some gastritis and a hiatal hernia. In addition the top part of my sleeve had expanded above my diaphragm. So on April 27, 2023 I had another hiatal hernia repair and partial gastrectomy. He said that had more efficient ways on fixing my hernia than they did 9 years ago and that the partial gastrectomy would be kind of tightening up my sleeve at the top that expanded. I am at 270lbs today so it is nice to see the scale go down but I find myself frustrated that the weight is definitely not coming off like it did the first time around. I know it takes time and that I am doing well but the scale just will not move from 269-272lbs over a week and I hate it and just wanted to vent. I'm currently doing puree and I'm trying to make sure I get in all of my water and protein. I am not overeating for sure. I don't feel hungry at all and I have to remind myself to eat. Well that's the gist of my story and I just wanted to put it out there and see if anyone can relate and maybe we can help encourage each other, thanks for reading.

Had my RNY Thursday. I can’t believe how pleasantly surprised I am at the lack of pain! I feel so blessed. I had Tylenol and pain meds the first two days and haven’t needed anything since. The gas is ridiculous, but moving really does help. I was terribly weak yesterday, but after starting the twice daily protein shakes, I feel human again. My hope and prayer for all of you is to have the same outcome!! I’m so excited for the future!!
  12. Good morning Bariatric Pal Community… I am writing this post to take a poll of sorts. A little background: I am 43 years old and 2.5 years post op; maintaining healthy eating and fitness habits. I am also training for my first Ironman Triathlon in September- how cool is that?!? Three years ago when I was 360 lbs, I never would have conceived the possibility of a triathlon. Anyway, the cool benefit of making all these positive changes is it has me thinking about different options professionally. I have a successful career currently but to be honest my heart just isn’t in it anymore. My real passion is health and fitness. Which brings me to this post… I am thinking about becoming a Fitness Coach/Life Coach geared towards the bariatric community. I would like feedback on the following questions: 1. In your journey, do you think having a coach would be helpful? 2. If so, would working with someone who has been in your shoes provide a credible perspective? 3. Would you be willing to engage with a coach virtually if in-person wasn’t an option? 4. What would you expect from a coach? Thanks in advance for your help!

    2 1/2 Weeks Away

I completely understand how you're feeling right now, just a few weeks away from your surgery. It's been a long journey for you, with research, funding, and changing options along the way. It's natural to have doubts and worries when you see others experiencing complications or when logistical challenges arise. But it's wonderful that you found a new surgeon and that you're now scheduled for surgery. Even though there have been reschedules and unexpected hurdles, it's important to stay positive and focus on the fact that you're making progress towards your goal. I can imagine the mix of excitement and disbelief you're experiencing. It can be hard to fully believe that this life-changing surgery is about to happen. However, you've gone through all the necessary steps, received clearance from different tests, and had your psych consultation. These are all significant milestones that bring you closer to your surgery date. As you navigate the challenges of balancing college classes and family responsibilities, remember that you're stronger than you think. It's not uncommon for life to throw us curveballs, but you have the determination and resilience to overcome them. Try to embrace a positive mindset and visualize waking up from surgery with your sleeve. Visualizing your desired outcome can help you feel more confident and prepared for the journey ahead. Remember, you've come a long way, and this surgery is the next step towards a healthier and happier future. Stay focused on your goals, trust in your medical team, and believe in yourself. Soon enough, you'll wake up from surgery with your sleeve, ready to embark on a new chapter in your life.
  14. 11 days post op. On no chew diet. I love the chocolate Fairlife Core Power shakes. 26g protein and tastes like chocolate milk! Down 18 with pre op liquid and 11 days.
  15. I started at 209 and weighed 201 the day of surgery. Today I am 8 weeks post, 5’3” and 183. So I’ve only lost 18lbs since surgery day (26 since I started). Like you, I feel like it’s going super slow. My body is sensitive to EVERYTHING. If I don’t poop on schedule, I stall. If I don’t drink enough water or get enough protein or get a cold, I stall. If I have artificial sweeteners, I stall. I suppose one good thing is that my skin has a chance to bounce back. I’ve not been to the gym, but I haven’t been sedentary either. Just have to keep at it and make sure I’m measuring everything. Hope to get to my first goal soon (170). Crossing fingers.
  16. I am just curious.... I had VSG on 03/09/2023. This is supposed to be the HONEYMOON PHASE! But I am turtle losing. Doing all the right things. Eating my calorie limit, hitting water and protein goals. I have lost 21lbs since 03/09, seven of those pounds was the first week after surgery. Anyone else a turtle loser too?

4 days post op gastric sleeve.Guys I feel great minimal pain. The abdominal binder is amazing and really helps. I get up and walk a little every hour. I’m meeting my liquid and protein intake. I am so happy I did this. I was so scared and now I feel great.
  18. I had the sleeve, I’m a really picky eater so I primarily am eating sugar free popsicles, protein shakes, and fruits. My doctor said no carbs for at least 6 months and that’s mostly what I like to eat, so I am limited in food choices. I think my food restrictions due to pickiness are what caused me to lose so much so quickly. I don’t like veggies, meat, or legumes, so I really am limited in what I eat. I will say my energy is super low and haven’t been able to work out at all because I get dizzy really easily. I’m not sure if my age is a factor in weight loss but I’m 23.

Oh sweetie, this is one of those instances where anticipation is worse than the event. Deep breaths. It's okay to feel absolutely overwhelmed. I was too. I cried with my admitting nurse, my pulse 140bpm just before surgery, BP hit 180. It's a lot. Big hugs. Good luck to all of you today! Take it easy after surgery. Slow sips. You may not want to drink much the first 48 hours. Especially as you figure out what works best for you. My main source at the moment is broth. Frozen ice sticks and jelly too plus protein water. Fluid gets easier quickly for most. You'll all be in my thoughts today!
  20. Does anyone know when Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder will be available, specifically the roadside lemonade flavor. It has been out for several weeks, maybe a month or more? I noticed that other flavors are out, too. I am wondering if the company is having supply issues, or if it’s being discontinued.
  21. I just had my 6 month follow up and my B12 was 1728, I was asked to reduce my weekly 1ml sublingual dose to half. They said there is new research that shows B12 is accumulated and not peed out like it was thought. My first lab test was one month post op and both liver test were high and I was told by my Primary and Surgeon that it is normal, as long as the bilirubin and protein were within range, not to worry about it. This time around everything was within range. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, and congrats.. I'm going on day 6 post op.. and I'm struggling even with pain meds, I still am suffering with extreme pain anytime I try to ingest anything. Even a cap full of water, doubles me over fir 10 mins... I am lucky if I get 12 oz of liquid in a day, and any type of food or even protein shakes are a no... I can feel myself getting weaker. I hope in the coming days it gets better, I don't want a trip yo the ER.. other than that, if I'm not trying to get fluids down, I feel great.
  23. Sorry for signing up and then immediately posting something TMI. I've been lurking for a while but signed up to ask/vent about this issue, since my bariatrics office is closed on weekends and I can't talk to my surgeon until Monday. So I had my sleeve done on the 2nd of this month. All went swimmingly. This past Monday I had my one week post-op and again, everything went swimmingly -- except for my pulse. My pulse measured 143 and I was admitted to the ER and eventually placed inpatient as it was determined I'd developed acute metabolic acidosis. Okay, that's my bad, thought I'd been consuming enough water but I guess not. Once my bicarbonate levels were normal again I was discharged, on Thursday. My issue started after that. Since coming home, I've been struck with severe nausea and stomach cramps, and since last night have been vomiting and having diarrhea frequently. I can't drink anything, and I've been trying desperately to keep hydrated through this. Any time I drink, within five minutes it's leaving my body again. And, to be extra TMI, the diarrhea is... yellow. As if there's excess fat in the stool. Which there shouldn't be, since all I consume is water and... well, protein water. I tried OTC medicine like Kaopectate, but it didn't help at all. I was wondering if I'd picked something up while in the hospital, but if it was bacterial, Kaopectate should've helped right? All the way leading up to surgery I was told over and over about preventing constipation, so this is kinda the last thing I expected lol. Has anyone else dealt with this after having a sleeve? Did you find any way to alleviate it? I'll be talking to my doctor on Monday (and crossing my fingers I won't have to go back in the hospital for a third time this month...) but man I'm really not looking forward to another day of going back and forth between the toilet and the bed.

    May 2023 surgeries

Hey y'all! I had my VSG on May 4th, along with a hiatal and abdominal hernia repairs. Everything went well except the JP drain they put caused me to have intense sharp pain in my left shoulder, most often when I bent to sit; the pain would then last for a good 20-30 minutes. I spent 6 nights sleeping on the recliner because of the pain. Thankfully, the drain was finally removed yesterday and I got the first good night's sleep in my bed in over a week! I didn't have too much pain after surgery (other than the shoulder pain) except for on the incision sites. I walked every couple of hours, many times in a hunched position because of the shoulder pain, so that wasn't fun. I haven't had any issues with getting in my fluids and protein though it took 2 days before I could reach the minimum required. Healing has gone great and I graduated to the pureed stage yesterday but I couldn't do more than one pureed meal. I'm still having a lot of gas in my stomach and have to take gas pills to help alleviate it a little. Dr says that should get better as I progress into the pureed & soft stages. I'm sorry for those of you who have had or are having a tough time after surgery. I'm keeping you in my prayers for a quick recovery!
  25. It all kicks off for me early next week when I start the pre-op diet in preparation for my bypass on 1st; I just cant wit now! We have choice of two pre-op diets and I have chosen the liquid diet. This weekend, I'm trying out protein rich recipe's that are easily pureed for after the surgery. Here we Goooooooooo!
