Even in maintenance, you can find NSVs

A little background. I live in NYC and take mass transit everywhere as I don't own a car. So..some of my NSVs surround train and bus seats. Today, it was the metal benches at some of the stops on the PATH trains that run between NY and NJ. I used to sit on the bench and put my workbag down on the seat next to me rather than on the floor. I'd move it of course if someone wanted to sit. Well now I realize I can fit both myself and my bag in the same space. I don't have to worry about moving it if someone wants the seat. I know it's a silly kind of NSV but it's one none the less and it's nice to be reminded even if the scale is pretty stable, that you can still have these nice moments. Have a great Friday everyone. We're expecting a terrific weekend here in the Big Apple....sunny blue skies and warm temps. What more can you ask for? I think it's finally time to pull out the capri slacks I bought in Florida...lol. -
What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
Writerjennifer replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I gave up soda last year... it started as giving up diet soda, but i didnt want to gain, so i limited the sugar soda to a glass once or twice a month. So when they said no more after surgery, luckily i was in the right place that it didn't cause a problem. I have to say though... before I started the liquid pre-op diet I had been eating toast every night, with butter. It's my go to craving when I diet. Not sure why. But the most amazing thing was... when I started liquids on Monday, I actually didn't have a problem with toast. I didn't even think of it until last night (Wednesday). NSV? I think so. But back to the topic i guess... what do I miss? At this phase of my journey... I miss salty, savory and crunchy. A taste other than chocolate in my mouth. -
It's the little things that ARE SO big!

Yay, a.conners!! What you're describing are things we sleevers refer to as 'nsv's (non-scale victories). search the page for NSV inspiration Some of my first included also not having to adjust my seat or steering wheel so my thighs didn't touch the wheel, being able to bend over and tie my shoes without feeling like I was going to die of suffocation, and being able to walk a flight of stairs without sweating and panting. There are far too many to list in one post, but NSV's are a big part of your surgery vicotry! Welcome to the losers bench! -
Aww this made me tear up! I sure appreciate the support! We all are in this together! I have quite a large pannis (lower tummy) that hangs way down, but I'm wearing some pretty right pants for running otherwise is very painful, so think of it as spanx lol! Sadly, I can't wear any bathing suits bc if hangs below them, which sucks bc I finally fit into my old ones, yet still need to wear shorts or a skirt, thankfully I'm on my way to a panniculectomy this summer! You will get there too! I just got over a huge stall where I only lost a few pounds last month, and very few the month prior, it's so hard, but these NSV are what really keep is going when the scale won't cooperate! Hang in there! Can't wait to here about you running someday!

First non scale victory since pre-op started....
CTJohn replied to rose2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great! My first NSV.... My A1C in January was 10.1. At preop, sometime in April it was 9.9. Two weeks after surgery (early May) it was 8. Endocrinologist was thrilled, already took me off one med. -

'Morning y'all! This is my first post in the "SUCCESS STORIES" section and that alone feels like a NSV, even though this is a weight-related post. I am 13 days out from my surgery and have lost a total of about 9 lbs during that time. It's not 24 lbs or even 15, but it's NINE POUNDS IN 13 DAYS, I'll take it! My big moment this morning was when I realized that including my pre-op weight loss, I've lost 40 lbs!! Woo hoo!! I'm 40 lbs down from the heaviest weight of my life, 291. Never going back again!

I'm 9 weeks post op and have lost 40 lbs but stalled for the last 3 weeks. However, today I got a NSV at my dr apt. She eliminated the last of my diabetes meds and my cholesterol med!!! I'm so happy!! Just have 2 BP meds to get off next or at least decreased.

Week 2: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Holy cow jenlyn you have lost almost 30 pounds in a about a week?!? I didn't think that was even possible! Wow I'm def a slow loser then, I'm down 8 as of today from surgery weight. Jenlyn I'll add you to the group. Your surgery was the same day as mine. 27lbs already!!? Man I wish NSV - Slipped a shirt on I wouldn't wear a few weeks ago because it was tight. Fits lovely now :) -
So today I had the pleasure of having my hubby's company on my run(I run when he's at work usually) Both kids are at school so we had a nice time joking just being fun! Well we got home and he took this funny picture of me and I said hmmm "I want to put this on FB but look at my fat stomach!" Well after 10 seconds of soul searching I realized "screw that, to others it may look like fat/flab, but to me it's the loose skin I have to show for all my hard work, I'm gonna post that dang picture and not care what others think!" HUGE VICTORY for this over critical self doubter(which is actually why I bought the shirt, the caption aimed at my own self deprecating self! Today I tagged my 6'2" hubby in that picture bc his 5' tall wife not only kept up, but she out ran him! Yayyyy! Thank you sleeve for giving me a chance at life again!

NSV!!!! Jogged for the 1st time in 17 years!! :-)

May 28-31st Sleeve Week!

Nsv: My wedding rings are loose and almost fell off when I washed my hands! Haven't got on the scale yet but that has to be a good sign! -
it truly is so amazing to go into the closet and fit into everything. and most things are big. I swore I would wear what I already had through at least 4 seasons. so far I have had clothes to fit into from needing a 4x to now 1x or even large tops. but if summer doesn't finally rear its beautiful warm days I may have to buy something. I am sitting here in sweats to big but all I have. but I do have several pairs of shorts and sundresses just waiting in the closet. come on summer. I am loving nsv much more than the scale.

Congrats!! I find NSV's more rewarding than a number on the scale.

thats awesomeee!!! congrats on one of many NSVs to come!!

My suregery date was MArch 20, 2014. About two weeks after surgery my mother in law had given me several outfits that were 1x in size. Day of surgery I was a 3x. In the last couple of days I have been able to comfortably fit into these 1x clothes and I almost cried. I did dance.
-
Congrats on your NSV!

Buying a dress online that was smaller than last summer AND having to return it for a smaller size because it was too big when it arrived. And ordering a lab cost in a much smaller size than last year and being able to button it all the way up! Clothing changes seem to be the biggest NSV at the moment.

April 16th role call - who's with me!
mysleeveid13 replied to Bluesea71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
how do you add the weight you've lost each week? I finally added a ticker. I feel challenged on this site. the actual website is TOTALLY different from the phone app. been searching around and I can't find it. Thought it would be a good way to see what I've done each week since we've been faithful about posting it each week. oh and my first two days back at work have been great. I've gotten so many compliments and a few people have asked what I've been doing. I felt bad for one girl who truly was asking for her own good and I might just have to approach her later and add that I had surgery. She was asking me like she needed advice. You can tell when people are just being nosey. I wish I didn't have such a guilty conscience! But another girl came straight out and said, "Did you have 'the surgery'?" I didn't answer and she said, "Or are you just exercising?" I said, "Oh yeah..." so I didn't answer either question specifically. I just can't believe people are nosey enough to ask you straight up. But whatever. So far, haven't told anyone at work that didn't already know before I went out and those people and I are friends outside of work and two of them had surgery themselves. I think I'm going to keep it to myself.....for now. Oh and a huge NSV! my clothes are literally falling off, so I had to go buy some new pants for work and I went from a 22 or 24 depending upon the size to a.....wait for it......16! I just kept going to the rack grabbing a smaller size in disbelief! Wow. That felt great!!!!!!!!
