I had my lapband surgery on 3/31 and I have lost a total of 31lbs, but I have not changed sizes yet. I figured by now that I would be able to buy smaller sizes, but I have,kt even had anyone say anything about my weight loss except my mom and husband. No one else knows that I had the surgery, but I would have thought that after 31lbs there would be some difference. I'm getting a little discouraged!

LoriAnn81 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm note sure if I posted my weights correctly. On may 3rd 2011 I was 182lbs when I was banded. Today May 8th I am 175lbs!!! So now I have lost 7lbs since surgery!! Hopefully by thursday I can start solid food (which my surgeon recommends) 8-9 wants you to be fluids only..then try solid foods. My Doctor enrcourgaes to EAT Alot Protein thats what will keep you feeling full.. I also got the Okay once I start my solids are can start my Chinese B Pollen (Vitamin also helps with weight loss) So I am positive outcome so far!!! We can do this ladies!!!! -
Well done so far. The big weight losses will slow down and there will be stalls along the way. Weight gain after surgery is usually due to iv fluids and inflammation and then the fluid retention usually goes within a few days, hence the big losses. Just checking you are getting plenty of fluids and the required amount of protein??? What food stage are you at?

do weight gaining meds effect weightloss?
joyful noise replied to Karishero's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told some meds do slow a weight loss. My bp meds don't exactly help the weight loss, so I am sooooo looking forward to being off them. -
I'm glad it's working in your favor I have noticed it a lot lately. The other day at work we had to dress up.... so I wore just a pair of khaki's a white shirt with a mini jacket and heels.. Hubby was chasing me around! LOL! And, I definitely feel MORE girly. I got a new purse. Something I'd NEVER ever go for in a million years before and I am absolutely in love with it now. I wear make up more.... I do my hair more... I just feel like a girl lol

Sudden stop in weight loss
KittyBabbitt replied to Audra Pina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
so frustrating to stall. I checked with my nutritionist who told me it was totally normal - because our bodies are adjusting to the weight loss. A stall or plateau just means that your body is healthy and working to stay healthy. It thinks the rapid weight loss is due to illness or trauma - so it protects you until it adjusts again. The most important thing you can do is continue to drink as much Water and take in as much Protein...maybe even go back to the Liver Shrink. Keep us posted! -
Anyone out there on the graveyard shift trying to keep the weight off?
911dispatcher replied to myangel0704's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a dispatcher and work 2 months night shift, 2 months day shift, 12 hr shifts. I am on nights right now, for January and February. Most of the advice that I have found on the Internet, and from the medical profession, for weight loss, is hard to apply when you work shift work. It's on thing to say eat healthy snacks. It's another thing to be awake at 3am when everyone is sleeping, and just want comfort food. So I think we face an extra challenge as night workers, but it is possible to lose weight, especially after WLS. -
Eating more than usual :(

My 5th of 6th monthly dietician meetings is Wednesday, and I'm guilty of taking off a week or two after meetings. I've had weight loss every month, but I know the cheating ends soon. -

I'm currently on the puree'd foods. I am, as I think many of us are, very tired of whey protein. I can start on soft foods next Thursday. But things are going well. I am a bit more tired than I thought I would have been, but I find a nap during the day seems to perk me up. Prior to surgery, I was taking 17 different medications (metabolic syndrome) plus a shot twice a month; I am now taking 4 medications, plus the two shots. No high blood pressure, no heart angina, no osteoarthritis. So overall right now, feeling pretty great on top of it. I do have a question; while I am loosing steadily, once in a while I have a day where it goes up just a bit (about half-one pound). Am I doing something, or is this just one of the attempts of my body to find equilibrium with the weight loss? Thanks!

3 1/2 months out and hit a stall....HELP!!!
To Be Thin 2011 replied to thenewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, thank you for this post! I was sleeved January 12th. I have been bummed all day cause I weighed myself today, as I do each week and I lost....08 of a pound, not even a whole pound. What made it worse is this past week I was the most physically active then I had ever been since surgery so I was anticipating hitting a big number in my weight loss...not even a pound..ridiculous... I read others posting these big numbers - losing 20-30 pounds a month and even more! I felt I was the only sleever that was seeing slow loss. I normally am pretty consistant with a 2-3 pound loss each week - which is not even half as much of a loss as other posts I read. So I truly do appreciate reading posts like yours to keep it all real. -
me today. Not very much weight loss but its a start..71 pounds lighter.

8 Weeks Post Op and Still No Fill.
GoCubbies79 replied to GoCubbies79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mention to the doctor how many calories per day I am eating and what my daily diet consists of. The doctor did say that normally people eat around 900 calories a day but he said he didn't want to tell me to eat more. He was shocked and very happy with my weight loss. I am happy with my weight loss and do not want to increase my calories if I can not naturally fit them in during meal time. My whole reason for doing the lap band was to stop myself from eating just to eat. I am scared that increasing my calories just to hit a number, 900, will put my mind back into the bad habits of eating just to eat. -
Hi, I was banded August of 2009 and got pregnant 4 months after my band. However I have been pretty successful in my weight loss total of 65lbs of the 110lbs I want to lose. However in January I started to notice I could eat much more and really started to have a lot of reflux esp at night. After fills and unfills to try and adjust my band we did the swallow test and my band slipped down. My doctor took out all my fill and now I have to wait a few weeks and see if my band reposition itself properly. If it does not I have to decide whether or not to just remove my band or have it revised. Both require surgery again. I was just wondering if anyone out there has gone through the same thing and what was the outcome of the removal or revision. Thanks for any input.

ewww with sugar?? no, no, no. you eat them with butter & a pinch of salt. Or maybe some cheese or red-eye gravy. To the Aussie: do you have Polenta down-under? It's the same thing. As another poster said, do take it easy with grits, they're not weight loss friendly, they're ground corn and corn is a high glycemic food (ie, it tends to spike your blood sugar and then when the bld sugar levels drop.. you get hungry again faster). In general, grits are not high protein. However, if you add some cheese (preferably 2% or even lower fat), then you will get some protein. Pre-banding I LOVED my grits. Nothing better with eggs & sausage in the morning..or with fried catfish at night. Now I rarely eat them. They are a treat rather than an everyday food. Here's some info on a brand I sometimes buy. If I'm gonna indulge, I want the good stuff. With cool weather coming on, it might be time to have a little. I think it's been 6 months or more since I had any. Protein and Carbs...Help!
jess9395 replied to DesertGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There’s debate on whether your carbs must be that low, what does your doctors plan say? I kept mine that low during my loss phase. Simple tweak is to get rid of the oatmeal. I didn’t add that back in till I was at goal. Check the carbs in your shakes, some are higher than others. I chose one with no carbs. Also check your soup, some have higher carbs than others. Does your Greek yogurt have added sugar? There’s another spot you could lower the carbs. -
Long term overseas travel 4 months post op
Bufflehead replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With respect to item no. 1, you are traveling to areas that tend to eat carb-heavy cuisines (rice and noodles in Japan, rice, lentils, beans in south Asia, rice, corn and beans in Mexico). So, I think you'll have to be committed to avoiding those foods to a great extent and working at getting lots of meat and green veggies. You can get those things anywhere, but you may have to look harder and work harder to get what you need. Are you willing to do that? If so, go for it! You do not need a bunch of frankenfood protein powders and protein bars and special artificially flavored popsicles and cashew milk and whatever. You just need meat and green veggies and to not fall into the easy trap of eating the big scoop of rice that may start appearing whenever you eat out. As far as exercise goes, people in India and Japan and Mexico probably get more exercise than your typical "first worlder"(assuming you are American, Western European, etc, your profile doesn't say). Commit to doing a lot of walking. Figure out how people where you are get exercise and do it. If it doesn't happen, that's not ideal, but exercise really has a minimal impact on weight loss. You can tone up when you get done with your travels (exercise is not going to have an impact on whether or not you end up with loose skin, so if you are worrying about that, put it aside). People notice what we eat a lot less than we think they do. People will be paying attention to their own food, not yours. Certainly don't let potential judgments from other people stop you from doing what you've wanted to do for a long time. Anyone who is rude enough to make a comment on someone else's eating habits is just a jerk, and you can't let jerks control your life. -
What does this mean, does weight loss slow if you exercise? i'm getting sleaved in a month.

Does this happen to anyone else.....Carbs and Sugar halt my weight loss.
ElfiePoo replied to qwiksilva1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, Atkins talks about carbohydrate intolerance. Many obese people have it. Sugar, by the way, is carb. Everyone has their own tolerance limit. If I want to have any weight loss at all, I have to stay under 30 carbs. If I want to just *not gain*, I have to stay under 45gm. For serious weight loss I have to drop it under 20. Everybody is different. I am an insulin resistant diabetic and found that carbs aren't the only thing that stall my weight loss. So does *excess* Protein which can cause the same effect as carbs. . -
What to do with an unsupportive spouse?
honk replied to finallydidit777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well when I told my surgeon I had lost a lot of weight my senior year of high school and was at 150 (yes that's including a huge weight loss); he said okay so that's your goal. Shrug don't know about that. It's really discouraging for me to have an end weight in mind. Probably becuase I feel like I've worked really really hard for 2 years and still would only be half way there (banded 8/10). Would I personally be happy at 150 sure; though I'm sure I would still be considered overweight. I don't know what I weighed at my largest because I did'nt own a scale. What I can tell you is that I lost a noticable amount of weight(20 pounds?) when my team at work moved to the other side of the building away from the cafe. I started bringing Lean Cuisine for lunch. Fast forward several months; I finally went the doctor about horrible knee pain. He said the weight has to come off; at that point I was 364. I start swimming every day and somewhat watch what I ate; fast forward I have a ministroke, weighed 334 at the hospital. I was 334 at my first consult the day of surgery I was 282; today I am at 256. So you can see why 150 seems like a fantasy to me. You've lost A LOT in a very short time. This battle is largely mental so don't let's other peoples comments make you discouraged. Anyway that was long winded. I think you need to consider what is your body's happy weight. I think everyone has one. I have two sisters 1) always been thin size 8, 2) more of a 12. 2 lost a lot of weight last year in my opinion to much and was downn to 4/6. She is now at like a 10. I would be estatic to a be a 10 but she wants to be thinner. Not a doctor or anything but I don't think her body is a 4 it's a 12 that might consider being a 10. Not sure of your age but for me college was 20 years ago. As we age our bodies work diffently. How realistic is it for you to weight what you did in college? -
How can 0.2ccs make such a difference?
emjay replied to koreabandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is amazing that such a small amount can make a huge difference. I too was overfilled for about 6-8 weeks. I had .1cc taken out the first time and still felt like I was pbing, sliming too much and that eating was too uncomfortable than it should be. So I had another .1 cc taken out and all is great with the world. No more pbing, sliming, I can eat any type of food (just some better than others), but with the same volume as before. So I suggest to anyone who is feeling a little too tight (symptoms - acid reflux - especially at night, pbing, sliming, many foods you can't eat) to consider a very small unfill. It was very hard for me to get this done as I was concerned I would be able to eat alot more and slow my weight loss, but it actually helped. I was able to eat the right foods instead of what just went down well. And heck why open yourself up to having band problems like a slippage or dilation? I'm glad you feel better about your unfill. From what I read alot here on the boards I wish others would consider it also to avoid alot of the problems they seem to experience. But it really is a matter of preference how tight you want your band. I just really want to take care of mine so I don't have complications. -
10 months and FINALLY restriction at 6cc!
Queen Fig posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went to the doctor Friday and they thought I had been at 7 cc for the past 3 months but couldn't figure out why I was still hungry. They pulled all the fill out and measured and I have actually been at only 5!!!! They looked back in my records and realized that they did their math wrong. This has been a frustrating journey as I had just about given up hope on the band as I could eat WAY more than 1/2 cup of food before feeling satisfied. For those of you like me who have been slow losers, be patient. Now that I am up to REALLY 6cc, I finally have some restriction and feel so much more in control of my eating. As an emotional eater, I have had trouble eating healthy too which has been part of my problem. I read a great book called "Why Can't I Stop Eating?" which was very helpful too. I guess I thought I would have the surgery, lose weight and that would be the end of the story of my fat self. It has been more work and time than I ever thought as I was banded in November of '09. I have lost 30 lbs but wish it was more. I am happy with my loss--but had unrealistic expectations of where I would be by now. Anyway, I am excited about the days ahead as a RESTRICTED bandster. I know this thread is all over the place, but I guess I just needed to get some stuff off my chest and make room for a fresh start! Have a great day!!!!!:rolleyes2: -

Hi, I had a Gastric band fitted 9 years ago before the technology was even proven or not to which i had a huge amount of health issues which resulted in me be so deficient in a multitude of different Vitaminsthat my only option was to have the band removed in order to have a baby as my body was shutting down. I have since given birth back in January to a perfect little baby boy I went from 70 KG to 146 KG in 9 months as my body was so starved of any nutrients it went in to a state of shock when i could eat and stored everything i ate even a small light meal during the Morning, noon and night time sickness my body stored and kept hold of everything and the Dr has said that this was quite normal because of the circumstances and the shock i put my body through. That said i am now experiencing more issues i had a Gastric Sleeve in order to loose the weight but still be able to eat small portions so i could loose some of the weight but still remain healthy and i have to admit i have lost 31 KG Since giving birth but a lot of this was Water retention i came out of hospital almost 15KG lighter already so i feel that the operation cost me an absolute fortune but has been a complete waste of both time and money. I feel in a way cheated that it simply is not working at all i now exercise 4 hrs per week high intensity classes as well from circuits to Spinning and still nothing i would ideally like to loose another 24kg and it simply is not moving i do not crave chocolate at all so tend to eat berries and fruit and can barely eat bread so if i do eat a Soup at lunch time i have less than half a slice of bread i mainly eat chicken and steak with some sort of vegetable by way of salad or sauteed in some olive oil and chili etc... but even then the portion is less than a 4yrs old, i calculated my calorie intake daily to be in the region of 500-750 in total inclusive of Hot Drinks. i was depressed after giving birth as all of my friends gave birth and came back out in their skinny jeans and i had to wear my maternity clothes up until i had to go and buy some new clothes last month. I don't actually know what to do now as i am simply not losing the weight and i am desperate i do not want to be the fat girl picking up her kid in the playground i hate it i feel uncomfortable and conscience everywhere i go i do not go out of the house unless it is to visit or meet people that i knew when i was pregnant i have not seen any of my friends that i knew before i fell pregnant because i am to conscience that they are all judging me for being that girl that put on all the weight and ate like a pig and it simply is not the case i have tried everything over the past few months from slimming world to calorie and fate counting and i am even about to try slimming pills which i have had sent over from Thailand as i am that desperate at the moment. Anybody's helps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
