I did soups blended, mashed potatoes, light yogurt, cream of wheat, activia light, apple sause, sugar free pudding and jello, fat free cool whip, your taste and appetite will be different to though so just try one new thing at a time eat slowly and don't stress. For me if it isn't gonna work I know instantly it's such a weird feeling. I'm nearly 4 months post op and I can't do any seafood or chicken but I can eat steak. Everythings trial and error so be patient and take it one day at a time. Good luck

What is your favorite snack?
LipstickLady replied to keyyzzVSG36's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ahhh... I see. I totally see how you're offended and for that I apologize. My jesting had NOTHING to do with your size and everything to do with combining pickles and yogurt. That's a very common sitcom scenario for pregnant women -- pickles and ice cream or anything sweet, really. @@volfan - I was 264lbs and 5.3. I would never joke about someone's size. Recipes for thick liquid stage?
faithmd replied to Clairabellleee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Clairabellleee, check out the food Forum here, there's loads of recipes there. For the thick/full liquids stage I started blending anything that sounded good and adding whatever liquid would go with it it make it more soupy. For example, for July 4th I blended a small can of baked Beans and a fat free hot dog, I added some catsup, a little BBQ sauce and some tomato juice to make it more soupy, it was GREAT. I peeled and removed the seeds from some cucumber and blended it with a little Fage (greek strained yogurt, lowfat sour cream would work, though) and some spices (little salt, pepper, dill) and made a cucumber Soup. For the mushy stage I was directed that if you can cut the food or mash the food EASILY with a little pressure on a fork, that's mushy. Good luck! -
broth, sugar free jello, yogurt, applesauce and cream of wheat were my staples when I was on liquids. I did eat some really thin tomato soup and V8 juice occasionally.

I am finishing with day 4 as well and today just plain stunk.... I feel nauseous 24/7, burping like no tomorrow and can't sit for any period of time b/c of the pressure build up. I too feel like I can feel a knot under the skin on my right side and imagine its the band area...lol... but who knows. I drank my shake way too fast this morning and thought I was going to see it again for the rest of the day. I know I need to walk more but I am just plain tired (I have Fibromyalgia) anytime I feel a change I panic thinking somethings has gone wrong. LOL... tonight after I SLOWLY ate my yogurt all of a sudden I realize I don't feel half bad, I should have been relieved but nooooo I instantly think maybe the band has slipped or something. I think its hard dealing with something you can't see or feel except internally. Makes it harder mentally. We are a work in progress..... we have done the physical repair now its time for the hard part....doing the mental repair. If you want to talk I am usually on here late at night and we can compare who is the most miserable..... remember there are many others before us that have all been down this road and have made it and so are we.....

Nutrition plan share away.
OneLostJourney replied to OneLostJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all. However my surgeons suggestions are if it matches the consistency than u can go with it. Cream of wheat is way tom heavy and has zero nutrition. I am against caned food so fresh Miso Soup is full of protein and it's like water. And being I'm trying to get out of diabetes having a drinkable yogurt loaded with sugar is not a good idea when cultured milk is a natural praboitic with protein same consistency as yogurt even thiner. I would say look further for much better items and ask your doc those are just few suggestions they put on paper. -
Travel advice wanted
chloes_countdown replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jess55, I travel a lot for work & have flown several times since 12/20 surgery. Here are a few tips & gotchas: - I take my Water bottle. I'm so used to having that thing around me now that its just too weird not to have it within arms reach! Make sure its empty when going through security & fill it after you're thru the checkpoints. At best, you only get a small cup of water on the plane but I get so dry. nice to always have water with me - Pack Snacks. Hardest thing about being on the road for me is eating every 3 hours - it just doesn't jive with most business meetings. Unfortunately, my fav snack greek yogurt will never make it thru security so I throw a couple Protein bars in my bag. Nuts work, too. This way *you* can control what/when you eat & not have to be at the mercy of some else's sched. - Pack Protein powder. I actually have shakes I like. I bought a little divided container (its in the baby section at your local chain store - moms use it for baby powder) so I can easily carry 3 servings with me. This I know I can get some protein in - regardless of what may be on the menu. Good luck & safe travels. chloe -
3-4 days postop and exhausted
rose suongas replied to dacer123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so new to this. I am to banded in August. Too nervous at this point. Am real nervous about the preop diet.Mmmmm, cottage cheese and yogurt, OMG I am going to die! Anyway, I am from Toronto. Actually, I went to the Toronto clinic June 20th, and met a really neat lady from Whitby. I was from Pickering. I have the short dark hair. We really got along and found you very inspirational. But dont have your name or email. You were in the waiting room resting after your fill. When I came out from the office, you were gone. Would you be interested in emailing? My name is Rose. Are you around? -

phatgirl 2011 replied to Joleen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I myself go through this whole process, testing and what not, believe that's on my mind! lol I also don't like milk or yogurt so.. I'm just going to have to force it. I will do what i must. -
I am 3.5 weeks out and it has gotten easier just this week to eat a little more. But before that I could only eat 2 oz. And it also depends on what it is. Yesterday I ate tuna salad and could not eat much, but couple hours later was able to finish the scoop. Same with yogurt. But if it is something warm and not too thick I can eat more. Temperature seems to be a factor for me. Also if I try a baked potato nothing works b/c it is just too thick and seems to stick to my chest. I often wonder where IS the stomach/sleeve b/c when I have problems it is always in my chest not what I thought was my stomach. But eating less, but more frequently is definitely a key. It took my hard head a while to learn that.

Severely Missing Food
Crafty Li'l Devil replied to jro5360's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a hard time with just liquids. I'm 2 weeks post op as well and all I want to do is chew something. I can have yogurt and pudding...Just not the same. I don't even want anything fatty I just want to chew. I miss salty as well. The broth is ok...but man this is hard. I get to have oatmeal on Wednesday. That might help. are you able to eat frozen yogurt and if so, should it be non fat, sugar free, or sorbet?

I had my surgery 4 days ago and have been wanting food too. It seems to me it is just the habit of eating as I am not hungry. So far I have found anything really cold in not sitting well. This morning I had decaf coffee with cremora and was fine until 20 m later when I started sipping on a protein shake. Threw it all up. then later for lunch. threw up more protein shake. The rest of the day I have kept down, chicken broth, water with crystal light, sugar free jello and premier protein clear drink with no problem. I think maybe I need to wait another day before I start the the yogurt and pudding. Although I did drink some ensure at the hospital with no problems. I most certainly have to take small sips and I cannot imagine trying to chug anything, I was afraid to drink the cup of barium for the upper gi they did after the hospital. Dont feel bad for yourself. The first day after I was so sorry I did this but that is changing. Ive been keeping myself busy talking to family, watching TV, taking some walks around the house and yard and playing solitaire. One day at a time.

18 Days Post Op- HELP
CincyUdy replied to CincyUdy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on regular food now. I am not eating raw veges or steak yet, but basically everything else I am eating. I do try and eat a little all day and at first that was working great. I would have a Atkins shake on the way to work then a yogurt a couple hours later then lunch and another yogurt or something in the afternoon and then dinner. For the most part I am ok doing this and I am not chowing down at dinner, just eating more than a cup of food. Probably between 1 and 2 cups at dinner. I was expecting to eat like a half cup to a cup and be satified. Well it is not cutting it! I guess I just feel like I did before surgery and my weight loss has been at a standstill for the last week so I am wondering when things will feel different. And should I only eat a cup of food even if I am still hungry? -
I am 5 months post op with about 8 cc's in my band. Although I still feel no real restriction I have found myself vomiting a lot of stuff I could tolerate prior to my last fill. The 1st week following my fill was fine .. no issues, no restriction, but no vomiting either. I guess I should clarify the vomiting is usually related to being stuck. It can happen on bite 1 or bite 4 and it seems to have not started until the 2nd week post fill. Yesterday was beef stroganoff.. chewed real well and just a few bites before I was in agony and stuck.. today a hamburger patty, no bread .. again tiny bites, not overcooked, melted cheese for moisture .. no go. Lunch I stuck w/ greek yogurt which is never an issue but a boarderline slider I think.. Tonite even a 1/2 cup of chicken salad took forever and was not comfortable but did not come up. I'm thinking chicken salad is moist, pretty chopped up. Am I in need of an unfill? I feel like I should be able to eat solids and not have to live on mushies.

I was so glad to see this post because foods like yogurt and cottage cheese that I used to love taste off to me. I was wondering if this was normal. I'm still in the soft food phase so am still eating a lot of soup. I'm so curious to know why my tastebuds have turned against me.

Restriction vs Vomiting
Jachut replied to kassy_360's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, bananas - IMPOSSIBLE for me to eat with any fill. I could eat an apple with the skin more easily than a banana. There is no rhyme nor reason to what our bands will tolerate. I couldnt eat easily bananas, yogurt, ice cream, juice, milk, but I could easily eat bread, steak, raw carrot and salads. -
Hey there everyone, I'm about a week and a half out (liquid diet with Protein shakes, non creamy Soups, and Greek yogurt). Before my surgery, I lost 45 lbs on my own; now I'm sitting at home with 6 belly scars wondering how much weight is going to come off and when it's going to decide to do so. I know that everyone is different so I'm just speaking generally. How much did you lose and what was the time frame? I'm not impatient (my surgery date was a year in the making) just curious. Thanks

Same thing here. Sleeved 1/31 and I barely eat a teaspoon of yogurt and I'm full, teaspoon of tuna and I'm full and I can't drink a 1/4 of my Protein shake. I've been focusing on drinking Water and teas. I find that I generally sip on warm tea anyway and I can drink about 4 oz from a cup, so tea 5 x a day = 20 oz plus some water and broth and the shakes (those count as liquids) I've been tallying 40 oz of liquids. Not bad for someone that's just 3 days out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Confused...protein or calorie intake
MarcyLoo replied to sexyat44's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In all honesty I'm not counting calories...because what I'm eating I know won't add up to more than I should be doing (1200-1400). I focus on protein first, with a goal of 60 gm a day. I personally don't believe protein keeps us fuller any longer than anythign else, that has more to do with how tight your band is and what consistency your food is (for how long it'll linger in the upper stomach). What protein DOES do, when you lower the caloric intake your body is used to, is cause your body to spare muscle mass and focus on utilizing enrgey from fat stores instead. If you're not meeting that protein requirement, the body will burn less fat and go to muscle instead. So, my goal is 4-5 ounces of protein three times a day (ground turkey, chicken, fish) and 1/2 cup veggies. I try to limit my carbs but do eat granola in my greek yogurt at least once a day and occasionally I'll indulge in a small amount of rice (1/4 or less). If I'm running short on protein I'll so Bariatric Addvantage powder in 8 oz nonfat milk (yum) or a Muscle milk Light (yuck). I've also done Jacks Links (?) beef jerkey cubes in a pinch, but I don't like their sodium content. -
This morning for breakfast I actually took EAS carb control protein shake (strawberry cream), 4 strawberries 1/2 banana, 1 cup strawberry Greek yogurt and 4 ice cubes and blended it, I must say it was rather delicious!
-
My mushie staples were scrambled eggs, fat free refried beans with cheese, ricotta cheese with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, tuna and chicken salad (my NUT allowed me this on mushies but not everyone does) and greek yogurt. You can also take ricotta cheese, add splenda, a little vanilla and lemon zest and get a nice little dessert.

FRUSTRATED Grocery shopper..
LindafromFlorida replied to Lifechange>40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look for the yogurt that has 13 grams or less sugar. I buy one that has 9 grams of sugar per my NUT. Walmart has EAS protein powder that was allowed, in vanilla only. I add Torani sugar free flavored syrups or Crystal Light powder to change it up. Torani syrups come in chocolate, hazelnut, salted caramel, raspberry, gingerbread, etc. and are sold at World Market, Amazon or the coffee section of the grocery store. We found Premier shakes at Sam's Club, but 3 months post op were told to stop the shakes. Now I have 3 cases of shakes sitting here. I learned not to stock up. Use this time of healing to experience new things at the grocery store, walking slow and reading labels. Make sure you always eat before you go to the store, it will keep you from spending extra money I have learned.
