Any good post op pureed/liquid food recommendations?
lizonaplane replied to Lahela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about regular plain yogurt with a bit of splenda/stevia/vanilla/honey? Goat cheese? (Not sure what is allowed as I'm several month prior to surgery, but I like food). Refried beans with cheese? I hit a wall with protein drinks this morning and I'm not a fan of eggs so I'm trying to find ideas for protein heavy breakfasts now, and I get it that trying to get yourself to eat something YOU JUST DON'T LIKE is not going to work! -
Starting solids and no more weight loss!!
Tracy_in_Texas replied to Monica's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on March 1st and I am still on liquids although I get to add certain mushy things like cottage cheese, and yogurt and just today I get to eat mushed squash. I am still losing and wont be eating anything solid for another 2 weeks. My surgeon, Dr. Aceves, is pretty strict for the post op diet but I think it is because he really wants to be sure the stomach is completely healed before introducing solids. I am thankful that I am not hungry. I drink CIB in the morning, then have a yogurt for snack. Lunch is 1 cup of soup. Snack is jello or maybe another CIB. Then Dinner is another cup of soup, with fruit or yogurt or cottage cheese as a snack. I know it depends on the person because I just posted on OH that I thought I might be eating too much compared to some post op just as many days as me. However, I can't wait to get my first fill sometime in mid April because I am noticing I am not staying full as long as before, and everyday I think I can drink or eat a little bit more. BUt I am still losing. So I guess I didn't give you any advice but maybe something to compare too. If you are not losing after eating solids, you may need to track what you are eating on fitday.com to make sure you aren't getting in too many calories. But it could just be that your body is in shock like everyone else is saying. -
How do you know when you overeat?
MissErika replied to MissErika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for replying! I did drink after eating soon-ish and it felt like a gas pain and passed after a few seconds. I forgot about that! I try not to bother my surgeon much - but my nurse said I must be doing everything right if I don't get sick or anything. You know, the small bites, chewing constantly and waiting in between. I guess I am just nervous because I had a slider and I had quite a bit! I guess I should just stop having soft foods (like yogurt and soup) but I enjoy them once and awhile, but they don't fill me up... :/ -
Feeling stuffed and not getting as hungry
DaisyAndSunshine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am almost at the end of my 4th month and it seems I am getting full lot faster than before 🤷🏻♀️ Like the amount, I was able to eat, now I can't as much. Before I was okay eating around 0.75 cup (half of it is usually yogurt) but now I feel stuffed with the same level, so I have reduced the portion size a little to may be 0.5 to 0.6 cup or incorporate less solid and more semi solid like yogurt (which I usually have with every meal for my protein as a vegetarian eater). I don't know if anyone has experienced similar trajectory. Not sure if I should be concerned? Because I am studying, I am not as active. I do make sure to walk about 45 mins to an hour a day but that's mostly my activity other than some chores here and there. So I can't eat more than 3 to 4 meals a day and calories have kinda reduced too (between 600 to 800). I don't know, guess I am rambling but I am unable to eat as much to increase my calories. My dietician said usually patients on our program are around 1000 calories around 6 months mark, so I think I am alright but if I feel stuffed, I can't manage to eat much. -
2 1/2 weeks post op
bramptonian replied to bramptonian's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi all. It's going ok, I have decided to start my pureed diet a few days early. According to the plan I was given by the Doctor I should start 3 weeks after surgery....well one of the papers said that I also have one from the Doctor that says start pureed foods 2 weeks after surgery. I find that I am getting alot of headaches, I spoke to my Doctor about this and she told me that I am probably not getting enough protein in my system (I really can't stand the protein shakes) so I will start with one pureed meal a day and continue with the broth, yogurt etc and see how that goes. I do find that I am hungry, which kind of concerns me but at the same time I think it's ok because I can't eat a whole lot anyway. Has anyone else gotten the feeling of hunger ?? I have lost 30 lbs so far and I am excited to see what the future holds for me. We should have a one year anniversary party in Mexico to celebrate all our hard work !! -
Dishes/utensils... recommendations?
Stacy160 replied to CraftyChristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I bought special were two little plastic condiment dishes from Walmart. They hold just about a half-cup of stuff, so now I use them for cottage cheese and yogurt, when using a regular bowl would be ridiculous. Otherwise, I have these really pretty ceramic salad plates that I've always loved and never had much use for, that I use all the time now, and I just use a salad fork and small teaspoon. just remembering to full up just the tip and not the whole thing. -
HELP How do I get all my protein?
BLERDgirl replied to chip305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask her to give you a sample diet to follow. I meet my Protein requirements, but I do have at least one Protein shake a day. I eat between 600 - 800 calories a day. My Breakfast is a shake using Isopure unflavored whey Protein powder, ½ cup of Fage 0% greek yogurt and either a bit of fresh fruit or a tablespoon of almond butter. Occasionally I add ½ a tbsp of raw honey. To this I add ½ a cup of Water and mix it in the nutra bullet. I drink half before my morning workout and the other half post workout. This yields 30 - 38 gms of protein. The rest of the day is easy since I've now gotten most of my protein in. I then eat regular lunch. Pretty much whatever strikes my fancy. Sometimes it's just a soft scrambled egg with a tsp of salsa and a bit of avocado, or it could be blackbeans with a sunnyside up egg and a sprinkling of shredded cheese. I spend most of the afternoon sipping water. dinner varies from Soup to a small salad with a hardboiled egg and/or a meat substitute (I am vegetarian) That could be tofu, tempeh, seitan, and occasionally Beyond meat products. I typically dress my salads with a bit of EVOO. My avg protein consumed this week is 67.5 I am not saying it can't be done, but if she wants you to keep your calories that low, meet your protein requirements, AND not use any Protein shakes, she needs to provide you with some specific examples. -

HELP How do I get all my protein?
samuelsmom replied to chip305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chip305 I couldn't possibly follow that plan. I know one of the dangers of WLS is grazing, however, I just cannot eat that much at one meal and am hungry about 2 hours later. A snack of greek yogurt or a cheese stick works great for me. If this is something you can do, great, however, I would recommend a call to the nutritionist if not. For Protein ideas: Fish, eggs, and meat are all good sources. As are lentils. Peanut Butter (if you can tolerate it at this point) is a good protein source also. I usually do have one protein shake a day to help me meet my goals. I also think it a good idea to ask for a sample menu as recommended in a prior post. Good Luck! -
I have been on solids for 3 days and all has been well..I was able to get in 1200 calories yesterday but by constantly eating small meals. Today I was only able to get in 900 calories. I did get to go to the gym for one hour, forty minutes on the treadmill and twenty on the bicycle. Breakfast: One egg with chedder cheese Lunch: South Beach chicken and green beans Snack: two string cheese Snack: yogurt dinner: smoked oysters Liquids: 44 ounces of crystal light I forgot my vitamins

What is with this lactose intolerance?
Rosebud2 replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Food and Nutrition
Doesn't the frozen yogurt have a ton of sugar in it? You probably were reacting to the sugar. -
@akt1908 I eat 60-80 grams a day. I like Fage geek yogurt. 3/4 C., 1/2 scoop unjury Protein and sugar free cherry syrup (by the coffee creamers at Walmart) . That starts my day at 27 grams. I also like a milk at Kroger's "Carbmaster nonfat reduced sugar added protein" 1 C. has 11 g. protein and no lactose. Mix that with 1 C yogurt add some splenda and a few berries and another great tasting Breakfast with 34 g. protein. I started looking at food logs of successful people on "MyFitnessPal" to help me learn how to eat after RNY. my food log is viewed by "friends only" so send me a friend request I LOVE meat and seafood. Read your food labels. 3/4 C crab select 2 creamy swiss laughing cow wedges, spices, onion...makes a lunch with 16g. protein. Good luck on your journey to better health.

I started at 264. Surgery on July 16 at 241. Today I am at 182. I am ok with it all. (amount of weight loss) I have had 4 strictures and 4 endoscopy/dilations and working on my 5th. My diet is for the most part liquid to include things like chili. Most of the time yogurt. In less than 6 months I have lost 58 pounds. I know some others have lost more in the same amount of time. Even in just 2 months! I have 6 more months to lose roughly 30 pounds which is totally doable. Also with my slower weight loss....less loose skin!

Fluids/purees stage!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to missblonde20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and soup. -
Refried Beans thined down- cheap, Protein, and tasty. 0% greek yogurt- not the cheapest, but not horrible either Couscous- not sure if I spelled that right, but it's a grain with low to no carbs and lots of protein and it's tiny so it will be easy on the band. My nutritionist said that this could be counted in softs. tuna salad Weight loss oatmeal thined with Water

i know how you feel. the first 6 weeks about healing, not about losing weight. i too was back to eating what i did before i had the first fill. after my fill, i did notice a difference in eating. just watch what you eat, write it down and chew, chew, chew your food. greek yogurt has alot of protein in it. i drink a protein shake in the mornings as i am rarely hungry until 10am.

I believe they do that during surgery but they did make sure that I could pee, walk around some as well as eat a little food without too much issue. I had some yogurt and potatoes. Sent from my SM-F700U using BariatricPal mobile app

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL! I know going meatless is not for everyone. I could honestly go without the meat because I've never been a big meat eater anyway. Congratulations, you made it to Onederland!! That is soooo great. I am sooo proud of you!! I had a yogurt this morning. I know that's not in the diet but I tried eating an apple and I was just too tight this morning. A lot tighter than I have been. It was the only thing I had in the house that would go down easy. My main goal is to eat more "live" foods, making sure I am eating fresh veggies and fruit. I made an appointment for a fill on Thursday. For the past few weeks, I haven't had much restriction at all, even in the mornings. Now I don't know if I should get one. I've been stuck on this plateau for a while now and I am so ready to get past it. Maybe I should just get a really small fill and see what happens, like .25cc or something. My last fill was only .5cc and it did really good for a while. I have a total of 6.5cc right now. What do you think? -
The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......

LOL! I wondered how you ate so many taco's so early in the day, lol. I didn't do too bad today, here's what I had: B'fast- weight watcher's yogurt Lunch- 4 whole (pretty big) strawberries, 6 fresh blackberries, 12 almonds Snack- weight watcher's yogurt Dinner- 5 chicken nuggets  I go for a fill tomorrow, so I will be on liquids for 3 days. I haven't been feeling very good today at all. I will probably go see my family doctor tomorrow too. A while back, my son got staph infection from some shots he received at the hospital. He had a rough time with it but finally got rid of it. Well, after that, my dad got it too, on his arm and in his nose. He finally got rid of his and now I think I have it. I have a huge knot on my inner thigh that is red and infected. I also have a knot inside my nose that is infected. The whole left side of my face hurts and throbs. It's not fun and I feel pretty miserable. Hopefully I'll find out what's going on tomorrow. Hope you kiddo feels better too! -
HELP! Dont know what to eat
gamergirl replied to a_jap21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Basically, in order to shrink your liver, this is what you have to do: high Protein, very low carb, low to no fat, and because you are straining your system, you have to drink a lot of Water. You will find that everyone's diet varies. Mine allowed us 3-4 Protein shakes, and 3-4 cups of non-starchy vegetable Soups. Most people are also allowed sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free puddings, clear broths, and sometimes, fat-free greek yogurt. We were told to stay between 900-1000 calories, almost no carbs, no fat, really you're doing 80% protein and water. I'd suggest you run these and other suggestions you get here by your doctor and ask him if those are okay by him. -

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It seems very compatible with the band. You can eat lean meats (beef has to be free range fed only, which might be a challenge for me because I don't know where to get it), chicken breast and turkey (no skin), fish and shrimp (not breaded or fried), organic or free range eggs (cooked on the lowest heat possible). You can have a large variety of vegetables, fruits, and nuts (though there are certain ones that are forbidden). No grains and no dairy on this diet. The grains I don't mind, but I'll have a hard time giving up my yogurt, lol. This is not just a losing weight diet for me, I am doing this so my PCOS symptoms can get under control too. So to answer your question, I think it's very compatible in regards to what is suggested by my nutritionist. Every nutritionist doesn't suggest the same things but mine suggests eating Protein first, then a non-starchy veggie, then if there's room eat a piece of fruit, then bread last. So it definitely works for what my nutritionist recommends. Good luck to you however you decide to work your band. -
Adding Calories Without Going Wild?
Kindle replied to IcanMakeit's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You can do simple things that won't really change your habits. If you have dairy, make sure it's full fat (2%milk not skim, full fat yogurt and cottage cheese not 0%). If you do Protein bars, switch them out for some whole grain bars with more carbs. Add in just one more healthy but high calorie snack to your daily menu... 1/2 cup of nuts, a banana, tuna or crab salad made with real mayo and served with crackers, whole grain Cereal with whole milk, a cup of raw veggies with dip or ranch dressing, etc. this is what I did when I hit goal and wanted to stop losing. Are you seeing a therapist or have access to a counseling group? Being afraid to eat more in order to stop losing weight is just as much of an eating disorder as eating too much. -
I'm 5 weeks out & my Dr wanted solids at 4 weeks so I've been working on it, but I'm struggling with what to eat. I've done tuna & other moist fish....sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Ground beef was a nightmare, my first attempt at chicken was last night & went ok. Sort of. Yesterday running around with my kids out of desperation I grabbed q tiny package of hummus with pita chips. I only ate a few of the chips but piled on the hummus for some protein. It went down soooo easily. It has been the easiest thing I've eaten since broth & yogurt. So I ate it again for dinner & snack. I ended up eating a ton of carbs! Yikes! So now I'm stumped. I have no clue where to go from here. I want to maximize my sleeve, but I don't know what to eat!!! I've thrown up multiple times daily since surgery other than a handful of days, so feeling full & not sick felt so good! Any suggestions on where to go from here?? I know the mushies stage was kind of carb heavy, but I don't want to get into any bad habits ..... Help!
