    Interesting, what people notice.

    My bad, what's NSV?
  2. Had my port revision yesterday. Glad it's over is all I can say. But here's my takeaway story for the day. So I'm wearing the horrible hospital gown with the sock thingies on as well and waiting with the BF for my surgeon to come in to see me. Already got alot of comments from the nursing staff about the weight loss and was OK with it knowing it would stop once I went home. So as you likely know, the surgical floor is kept fairly cold and while waiting for the surgeon, I tucked my legs up under myself to keep warm. The surgeon walks in and first thing she says after good morning is 'well...look who's all curled up in the chair there.' Figures she would spot that right away knowing that was an impossible position for me at one time. A NSV is a NSV no matter where it happens...

    Interesting, what people notice.

NSV is non scale victory. Something good that happens that has nothing to do with the number on the scale. Examples are fitting into an article of clothing you didn't think you would be able to or using the seat belt on the plane without an extender....or tucking your legs under yourself in the chair as I noted above. Something most of us who are/were obese couldn't do.
  4. So i finally ended my first stall. It lasted about 3 weeks, which i hear is pretty normal, but boy were those 3 weeks frustrating! I was convinced i wasn't going to lose anymore weight, even though common sense told me otherwise. But this morning i decided to try on my pre-pregnancy pants (my son is 6), and they FIT! just a tad snug in the waist but omg! I'm soo happy! This was my first mini goal, and i can't believe I've reached it! I couldn't be happier today!!

    Minor NSV!!!!

    What is NSV ??
  8. Kat817

    Minor NSV!!!!

Congrats to you both!!! Big or small NSV's they ALL count!!! I have found that for some strange reason---if the scale sticks, that is when the inches dropped off! I took measurements, in the beginning, and have lost lots more inches overall than the 70" I claim. The 70" is my Curves measurements, and they don't measure things like your neck---I lost 2 inches around my neck! And another 2 off of each calf! It is such a boost when the scale gets stuck to actually see the inches dropping!!! Keep up the good work!!! Kat

    Day 9

I noticed that I am walking faster today, almost back to normal pace. Soon, LOL, I will be able to keep up with my husband again. I had an interesting NSV today that I think has nothing to do with weight loss, so to speak, and everything to do with my "new found" positive feelings about myself. For the past two years I haven't really had a good positive image of myself. I lost my long straight blonde hair to chemotherapy. I was over weight even then, but I had my pretty hair to help me keep a positive image about myself. With that gone, it has been hard. Not to mention that my hair came back extremely curly! Everyone tells me how much they love my curly hair, but I just absolutely hate it, and I really mean ~~~loathe it! I guess this not so good feeling about myself has put me into the mousy quite type category, which I have never been in until this year. Well obviously looking at my numbers, I haven't lost much weight. I have been taking pictures and I can see slight differences because I myself know where I feel lighter so I can see those changes in the pictures. However, my husband really can't see any visible changes. So, I know this isn't happening because I showed up to work looking "thinner". Well here goes my NSV.... There is a very handsome man that sits just a few cubicles down from me. I have been walking past him since January, ever since I returned to work after my chemotherapy. He has not once ever turned his head, acknowledged my existance, looked up from his computer screen at me or anything of the sort. I even had to discuss something work related with him and he talked to me while he looked at his computer screen. So, I have walked by his desk countless times and never a reaction. These last few days, I have been talking about this "natural high" that I am feeling. Well, my natural high must be radiating, because everytime I pass this guy now, he glances up. He even said "good morning" to me in the kitchen. Interesting perspective into how positive or negative feelings about yourself can change a situation. Morning Scale: 212 (up +1) Food today: cup of coffee black w/ 1 equal Breakfast - ham and swiss cheese, about 3oz total Lunch - 3oz of Red Snapper and 4 pieces of yukka protein snack - Dinner - 1/3 of a La Madeleine chicken, broccoli tomato crepe. Calories 416, fat 21g, net carb 31g, protein 22g. Excersize: None
  10. I was at the Fruit Market, when I said Hello to a Neighbor. She told me I looked Great, and even her Grand Kids were checking me out.. I said thanks, but it is a lot of work.. She said she bets it is.. Then she said are you smaller then you were, last time that you lost weight ? I said NO ! I have 2 sizes to go down to reach where I was before things got goofed up. So I am looking forward to this summer. She said my God you are going to look Great. So I said say hy ! to your husband and was on my way. I felt as light as a Butterfly. A couple streets down is the Auto Parts Store, so he needed to stop there. We took care of Business and he got a head start, so I looked like I was walking alone ,when I was WHISTLED ! at.... He said HAY BABY, WANNA GO OUT ON A DATE SOMETIME ? I was floored, when all of a sudden I heard "W H A T T T T T !" The young Guy says "I'm Sorry sir, I didn't know she was Married. ! ! ! ! In the car He said your starting to look to Dam Good ! I said Nope ! not in a size 20 I'm not... I still got a long way to go.. I'm still flying High on this, and Hope to enjoy it all day. Its been a long time since I was asked out on a date. I should write it on the Calendar.

    Plateau & NSVs

I don't sign in here very often, but since it had been awhile, I thought I'd check in. It's a year ago this month, that I had my last fill. That last one was so restrictive, I have not wanted to get another. Maybe I should go for a check, but I don't know that I want more added. I only managed to lose about 20lbs since that fill. I wonder if this happens to others. I lose 2-3lbs, then gain a little back at "that time of the month", after that, I may lose a little but then it remains the same weight for several days, before starting to lose again. It is very, slow. It's like two steps forward, one step back (that kind of thing). It is frustrating, but, as long as I keep heading in the right direction, I'm okay. The good news is, that I have been buying smaller clothes. Medium tops and smaller pants/jeans/skirts. Bottoms are mostly 10s, but I have at least one or two 8s, one size 9/10 and some just say Medium. I even have one pair of jeans I got at a yard sale, that I'd had hanging as my inspirational jeans, that I fit into!!!! I just about fell over, when they zipped up, because they're size 6. That brand's sizing has to be off. I've got other size 8s that I can't get even closed to zipped. It has also been nice that people have obviously noticed that I'd lost more weight, because they comment on it. I've heard 'skinny', 'thin' and 'svelte'. That last one gave me a good laugh, as nobody has ever called me svelte. So, as of right now, I am 23lbs from my official goal. As I've always said though, we'll see how it goes. If I feel great and am happy with a little bit higher, I'll be good. I do not want to be wafer thin. I think we should have 'some meat on our bones'. Stick thin is just not cute. If you're frustrated like me, just hang in there and work for it. Don't give up. It is hard, but I would've never gotten as far I as have, without the band. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

    A computer NSV

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't dawn on me that it was a NSV! I just thought I didn't need them anymore because I hadn't ordered in such a long time!
  13. yep that's right, you heard me it's been 5 years since i took that stretcher down the long hallway!! hard to believe!! life is soooo different before and after being sleeved too many NSV's to shake a stick at newbies et al, you'll be amazed with changes in your life health issues improved, or are gone that's the main reason i had WLS the fact that i look like a hot sexy grammy doesn't hurt!! losing weight has been one of the highlights of my life i can't imagine my life today or tomorrow as a "heavier"" person life didn't start once i reached GOAL life began the first day at GOAL also called MAINTENANCE !!! one of the few things i still can't do?? leap tall building i still can not touch my tongue to my nose rub my new tummy , pat my head clockwise chew gum standing on one foot but.... still working on it!!! most anything else i can do LOL i have good, better, and a couple of "not so good times!! life can't be fixed as a "thinner" person comes pretty darn close!! i used to be 5"3' - now i am 6" tall!!! i was turning 58 years OLD DOS 5 years later - almost 63 years YOUNG!! i continue to work with my sleeve daily bringing me health, happiness, and success life is good kathy proud 5 year graduate!!!
  14. This morning I was trying to decide what to wear.......my closet is getting skimpy since a lot of stuff is too big now......but I pulled out an old pair of size 14 capri's and they fit perfect!!! I was wearing a size 20 to 22 before surgery and that was less than 3 months ago!!! Yay me!!!
  15. Sure, I had a lot of doubt, but also a lot of determination. I told everyone I got the Band so it would be embarrasing if I failed. I put myself out there as the guy that had surgery. Despite this determination, I still wonder if I can lose 100 pounds. Or can I get to my goal which would be 145 pounds lost. All this, even after losing 76 pounds so far. I will probably alway have doubt. Just have to overcome it with my determination to win. I sometimes have a hard time seeing the loss in my mirror. I really only notice it in my clothes size, scale and the hundreds of NSV's I encounter. Last night, I went to a hockey game in a local arena. I noticed halfway thru the first period that I did not touch both sides of the seat and was really kind of pressed up against one side of the seat. Then I saw a guy that I did not think look bigger than me squeeze into a seat in front of me and press both arm rests. Wow, did I feel successful. To you new bandsters, have the doubt, but overcome it with determination. Don't be afraid to succeed, but know success comes with hard work and discipline. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! TJ
  16. My brothers and I don't get together very often but we were all there for our Mum's 70th birthday. My older brother has always been a very big man but all I have heard for a couple of years is how much weight he has lost. My younger brother has always been tall and whippet thin. well, this time (and forever more) I was the skinnier sibling! Yay for my band.

    Non Scale Victories?

I am not part of the April group, but my biggest NSV was at the gym not long ago. A guy came up to me and asked me how I got my legs so toned. I was so shocked. I just pointed to the machines that I use all the time. They have really helped my thighs which are not flabby at all. I wish I could say the same thing about my arms.

    Rewards?

All the rewards I was supposed to get myself, diamond earrings and a fur I haven't got. Honestly there are so many little NSV every day I dont feel the need for erxternal gifts. Not having to worry if a chair is wide enough or can hold my weight is a gift that keeps giving every day.

    NSV

I never, ever thought I would reach this NSV before I was even 2 months post-op, but I'll definitely take it! Today I was taken completely off of my blood pressure medicine. The day of my first fill, my blood pressure was 95/53. Well, that sure explained my light headedness! I saw my primary physican the next day and still had a very low reading, so he decided to cut my dose in half. He instructed me to record my blood pressure 2 times a day for several days and I still never got a reading above 103/68. Today, my physician told me that there is no smaller dose and to stop taking it completely. I am supposed to keep monitoring it twice a day and report my readings on Thursday. I pray that it stays normal and needless to say, I am definitely doing the happy dance. ( / ) ( l ) ( \ ) ( l ) ( / ) ( l ) ( \ )
  21. Prior to my VSG I swore I would never wear skinny jeans. The couple times I tried them on in the past was not a joyful experience. If I was lucky enough to get them above my calves they did nothing for my figure. I would wiggle around trying to get them on and then feel like an udder shame when I looked in the mirror. I was solidly a boot cut jean type of girl. Well..... I not only found a pair that fit but I love the way they look on my figure. Also, I'm wearing white! White is not a forgiving color, I've always been a black/dark solids girl but not anymore!

    NSV-Skinny Jeans

I had the same NSV. I always wear leggings because my body is curvy and i'm short so it's hard to find jeans for myself. But also, since I had gained a lot of weight, I did not want to know what size my pants actually were so I never went to go buy jeans. But since I've been losing weight, I was feeling more confident and decided to go buy a pair of jeans. I had one pair before surgery and I was a size 18. I went to Old Navy maybe 2 weeks ago and I was a size 14 (stretchy jeans but still...) lol then I saw a pair of white slacks I bought from Express a couple years ago (size 12) and I thought, let's see how these fit so I know when I might fit into a size twelve soon...they zipped up and buttoned, a little tight but they actually fit. I dropped 3 pant sizes and I'll be 3 months post op on the 14th of this month. How awesome are we?

    Salad at 6 weeks!

Congrats! I would count that as an NSV! Frankensleeve didn't like any vegetables till around the 6 month mark. Lettuce was just too tough for him. :-)
