I'm so sorry to see that you're struggling so! I know someone who had surgery several years ago and experienced similar problems; they had stricture/narrowing in the esophagus that had to be dilated. Has your surgeon checked for that? I'll keep praying you feel better quick and are able to get your fluids and protein in.

Guys this isn’t really sweet at all. So yummy and look at the protein. Eek. Breakfast today ✔️

Sure, Carla. Per day, it is: * 2 litres (3.5 pints) of semi-skimmed mild spread throughout the day. If lactose intolerant or you have loose stools, cramping or bloating, switch to lactose-free semi-skimmed milk from the fresh milk counter. Soy milk can also be used but standard and unsweetened. Other plant based milks are not suitable as they contain little or no protein. * At least 1 litre (2 pints) of other calorie and caffeine free fluids to keep you hydrated (tea, herbal tea). Water is unlimited. No fizzy drinks, energy drinks, high caffeine drinks or cola's. You can have sugar free squashes or cordials but it must be labelled sugar-free or no added sugar; therefore, it should not contain free sugar, sucrose, sorbitol, fructose or fruit juice. * One salty drink to maintain sodium levels such as a mug of hot water with a stock cube or Bovril according tot he instructions. Alternatively, yo can have a 4g teaspoon of yeast extract (i.e. marmite). * One multivitamin and mineral tablet containing 100% of all A-Z vitamins and minerals as this is NOIT a balanced diet for the long term. * Allowed extras are one sachet of sugar free jelly and 3 sticks of sugar free gum per day - these are not needed but may be a welcome change * NO FOOD I hope i have typed this correctly 😊

Thanks for the information, if you don't mind can you post your milk diet. It seems to me whether it's the bypass or the sleeve everyone has a different regiment for the two weeks prior to surgery mine's just consist of two meal replacements 3 to 4 oz of a protein and two string cheeses in the host of liquids the first week and then the second week is all liquids

Resources for partners/family members?
Arabesque replied to D-mel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dr Matthew Weiner & Dr John Pilcher have excellent videos (you tube) on a range of bariatric topics really aimed at you & not so much your family members but they are very informative & an excellent resource. As for food, you may find by soft food you will be able to eat some of the same meals. Soups, stews, braises, mince dishes, etc. You may have to make ingredient substitutions, change cooking styles as you slowly reintroduce certain foods & ingredients but generally meals the whole family can eat - you’ll just have a much smaller portion. Great opportunity to try new healthier, more nutrient dense recipes & new/alternative ingredients. I live alone but regularly spent weekends with my 80+ yr old mother. She ate whatever I cooked & ate without issue or difficulty. I’d often have dinner at family or friends or go out to eat I just made sure my friends new what I could or couldn’t eat & made careful choices. I’d check menus before going out so I’d know what I could eat or what I could ask to be modified. I ate many of the meals I always did simply by making modifications to the recipes so it would be appropriate for my needs. My friend cooked for her family & basically ate that same meal from solid foods. For example making a pasta dish - she’d use zucchini noodles or would just eat the meat sauce component. Having tacos - she’d eat the filling not the taco shell. A bonus of your smaller portion size is leftovers. I freeze leftovers all the time. They are easy meals fir you to have when you don’t feel like cooking or for when your family wants something which isn’t a good option for you. Your weight loss period is the time you use to establish better eating habits & food choices. When you stop losing you don’t go back to eating how & what you used to eat. That’s why every other diet we were on failed & we’d regain weight. All the best. -

Holy cow! I’m a week out from my RNY and still can’t put that much liquid in my pouch. Doing well otherwise except just tired and a bit weak. Meeting all my protein and fluid goals so far. Good luck to ya!! -
I wish I didn't have it but I do. First week is 3 to 4 ounces of protein with 2 meal replacement shakes and second week all liquid, well lucky you.

What was the moment/day you decided on WLS?
Smanky replied to longhaul68's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When my last decent honest-to-god effort to lose weight on my own eventually failed during the start of the pandemic, the crush of despair was honestly overwhelming. I knew WLS was my last option. In a rare spot of good fortune, I had the funds coming in that could pay for both the necessary private health cover, and the flat fee my chosen surgeon offered at his clinic. I waited out the year until my health cover's pre-existing condition wait period was over, and never looked back. I could never have done it without that bit of good financial luck, so I'm immensely grateful. It gave me back my life. Injectables? No way. Stop taking that stuff and you're gaining it back again. Same as a "normal" diet, only much more expensive. With WLS, it's one outlay of cash, then a permanent solution, which is what I needed. I have this for life, and that's a comfort! -

My doctor brought it up! I actually never even assumed itd ever be an option but I had 2 failed weight loss attempts with him w pcos & thyroid issues. He brought it up, reffered me to the program, did the classes just to see if it'd be a good fit for me & it worked out! I'm very grateful -
Go somewhere fun to get your steps in. Nothing crazy, just somewhere new. Just make sure to bring a protein drink and a water bottle. And not go alone, if you can. A nice shop, farmers market, or park is a good choice. Walking a main street in a cute little town is fun. Once we get a free weekend, we're planning on a trip to a museum. Of course, this is all based on how you're doing, so don't push yourself too much. Start slow and work your way up, and give yourself grace to stop if you need to. My team wanted me walking 2 miles a day, almost immediately. It's a lot, but if I can focus on something else, it makes it easier. And BTW, I still haven't made the 2 miles, but I'm getting close.

isopure infusions - is there a trick?
LindsayT replied to heatherdbby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never blended mine. Even when I wash my shaker bottles they foam until all the protein is gone. You just got to wait it out. -

It takes some time for the foam to go down. Most powdered protein is foamy when you shake it. -
La nena buy the unflavored protein and add it to your soup or broth

I'm not worrying about protein during the liquid phase, it's impossible to meet so once I start purees it'll be my main focus. I'm so sick of this stage. Six more days... -
Ok guys I’m stuck. Day 6 post op. I hate sweet stuff never been a sweets person at all. Unfortunately most of all protein things we can eat are sweet. I’m grossed out now. I can’t stand the thought or taste of sweet. I want savory. Yes I have my broth but it’s never enough protein and the strained creamy soups. Still won’t meet my goal. I need ideas. I’m so ready for purred foods so I can get away from all this nasty sweet stuff.

5 days post op... am I feeling too well?
ptsmith109 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one of my happy pills this morning at 8. I've done a good job staying hydrated, slightly under protein target but working on it. I've been able to move around the house (up and down stairs as well) without much issue. All the internal plumbing is working. Follow-up is tomorrow morning with the surgeon. Should I be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Am I doing *too* well to expect this will continue? Is reality going to kick my butt in the next few days? -
I like the clear protein from MyProtein as it comes in a lot of flavours and helps me to stay hydrated while getting protein in. I like the cranberry one best.

Looking for a good protein powder and where to buy it from I’m from the uk
-
yes - just because it's unflavored doesn't mean there's no taste. There's just no artificial taste (like chocolate) added to them. All of the ones I've tried do have some taste. I'm several years out, but for the last several years I've only used unflavored protein powder in baking.

5 days Post op and cheated
CarolineLittle replied to Sell_bell's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Please be careful! You're tummy just endured a major procedure. It's really not worth risking damaging it. This stage is very hard, I know. Six more days until I move to pureed food. I want to eat so bad. But we have to be strong. This is such a small part of the journey. Expand what you're drinking, just one thing would drive anyone crazy. Broths, ice treats, jelly, protein water. Keep it varied. -
Protein shots are what's getting me through. Bariatric Pal has some pretty good ones. They are usually about 3 oz worth, and I add about 4 oz more of water. There are lots of brands with 20g protein or more. I can not do the shakes any longer. Any time i try one, i feel like I'm going to vomit. I also bulk up my soups with unflavored protein. I'm still trying to find one I like. Good luck.

You won’t be alone in doing this but do remember all those sutures & staples holding your tummy together. The staged return to eating solid food is in place to protect your healing tummy & support your recovery. I found the shakes awful too. I’d have a diluted one in the morning but then had cream soups (strain so no lumps or fibrous bits) & broths (bone is very good but can be salty). Make your own yoghurt drink by blending yoghurt (plain Greek) & milk. You can add some protein powder too. Just keep everything thin so it goes down easily. It’s only for two weeks. You’ll get through it.

5days post op- Help with symptoms: normal
NikkiRose89 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post op RNY. Surgeon said everything went great. Pain has subsided all except when going from sit to stand or sit to prone and vice versa. Pain as well when coughing or sneezing. Fluid and protein going down and staying down no problem. Can’t get comfortable to sleep. Normal? I feel like I’m ripping in half when I try to lay on my side. -
