Thanks, i'm sure you will hear from me alot as I get through this. I am also online Mon-Fri from 9-5 at work. It's so hard for me because I have been such an unhealthy eater for so long. This morning I had to force myself to eat yogurt. It was the first time in my life eating it and I didn't really like it but I needed to eat something. This is a big struggle for me. But let me know how you do with the chicken? How are you eating it? Mashed up?

The pre-op diets vary from surgeon to surgeon...mine was eating every two hours...i could interchange light yogurt, sf pudding and sugar free applesauce...8 ounces of gatorade a day and a protein shake for lunch and dinner free foods were chicken broth and sf jello Some report being allowed to eat light meals at dinner and various other combinations Ask your nutritionist and I am sure they can give you a copy of what they follow

When I have stress ( working with preschool teachers, parents, and the kids are the easy ones!) you bet my band gets tight! I then have to think about my diet choices. Often deli neat and cheese slices, soup, cottage cheese with yogurt, etc. really can range on tightness of my band each day...I'm 18 months banded.

Congrats on the approval. I am a firm believer in the protein shakes for pre-op weight loss. I had 2 shakes per day and a very small meal and had no problem losing the required weight. Just be sure to use the low carb protein shakes, not the muscle building ones. I prefer the chocolate whey powder from Walmart, mixed with skim milk and if needed, add some fit anf lite Dannon yogurt before blending. I was banded the end of August and still have the shakes on a daily basis.

If you are tracking your food pay attention to the breakdown between Protein and carbs. Try increasing protein and decreasing carbs. When my loss slowed down a bit my surgeon said make sure you are chewing your calories. I hadn't realized that alot of my calories were coming from things like yogurt, cottage cheese, laughing cow cheese. These are not foods you are chewing and can be less filling. Instead eat/chew at each meal like dense proteing, chicken, beef, pork fish etc. Also get back to tracking your food religously if you have strayed from this. Good luck to you.

Favorite Purees?
sweetsavannah replied to chrissygeorge25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently on purees and loving the baked ricotta, greek yogurt, refried beans, and Laughing Cow cheese triangles! Just don't forget about the protein. The only thing I've tried on purees that I didn't care for was oatmeal...weird because I loved it before, but I don't need all of those carbs anyway! -
My full liquids included Jello, yogurt and pudding. It was anything that turned to liquid once eaten. It had no fruit bits or anything mixed in. I was on full liquids from day 1 post op. I'd try mixing it in a little bit of s/f pudding Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Started mushy foods this week- yogurt, cottage cheese, etc and now I've gained 1/2 pound? What the heck?! That's very discouraging. Anyone else have this problem? I'm still eating my protein shakes too and I drink all of my 74oz of water. I'm feeling really scared about the fact that I'm only in my 2nd week and I've gained.
-
I have vanilla hiney Greek yogurt with cottage cheese when band is tight.
-
I did 2 weeks liquid only. 4 shakes a day, sugar free yogurt, pudding and jello. Every program is different. Mine had a daily meal plan and it was very specific.
-
I don't see why it would be a problem. Just watch the carb count. I regularly put Kefir (liquid yogurt) in my Protein shakes to help with the taste. Plus it adds more protein and keeps me regular.

Tomorrow is the big day! (Kaiser Richmond, CA)

I ended up staying two nights in the hospital with them considering keeping me for a third, however it was up to me if I wanted to stay or not. Only Ativan would work for me and luckily mid day yesterday everything clicked and I felt much better. They sent me home with liquid Ativan and I did okay eating stage two today. Yogurt went down a lot better than cream of chicken though! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hey LuLu! Great question . I actually opted to follow Dr. Cirangle's post op guidelines rather than Dr. Garcia. Dr. Cirangle is with LapSF in San Francisco and his patients are wildly successful at meeting or getting below goal. I frequent Obesity Help and have learned so much from his post op patients. His plan is more structured...and I don't know about you...but I really need structure. His guide is 35 pages long and has amazingly detailed informations down to the best quality yogurt brand to have. I'm glad that I stayed with clears a little longer too, because I wanted to make sure I could meet my Fluid goal of 60 oz per day before moving up. And. Am finally getting there. Yesterday I started regular Protein shakes and they filled me up quick! So far I am 9 days out and down 16 pounds and I feel incredible!

First of all, I always come and look at your posts, and you guys are amazing and very supporting! I just decided on on signing up lol... So my surgery is set for April 1st, an April fools band lol.. I started my pre-op diet on Monday, and it's ALREADY starting to get to me. My doctor wants me to do 3 Protein shakes a day, with one main meal of 4-6oz of chicken or very lean meat. 2cups of starches, 2cups veggies, endless salad with fat free dressing, but not drenched in the salad. I thinks its 2tsps not sure :sneaky:..... TodayI went for pre-admission testing and my scedule was totally MESSED UP, I was so mad. So I messed up my diet but let me tell u what i did. 11am-dannon light & fit yogurt lemon ciffon (yummers) 2:30pm I had a handful of carrots, diet green tea snapple which i always drank and love!!! 4:00-5oz chicken, lettuce, light mayo (a tsp,) honey dijon musturd (tsp,) and a half a whole wheat wrap. That's it so far, but i don't know if because i added the mayo and musturd i added to much fat......helllpppp

Any other December 30th Bandsters to be???
jackieva replied to Stephanka917's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really hard around the holidays and I get alot of support from home and co-workers etc. But I think it is a little more difficult in this month due to celebrations and festivities. My husband is supportive, but I do not think it is fair for me to change their diet and cook "differently" for them. Its hard enough that I am not as festive as usual and choose not to travel. So I just carry on as usual and when its mealtime, I go in my room with my shake and a diet soda:rolleyes2: I tell my husband to throw away all leftovers down the disposal when they are finished eating so I am less tempted to take a bite of the leftovers. What is everyone's pre-op diet? Mine seems extreme (shakes, yogurt, and clear liquids). ~Jackie~ -

dreading the pre-op diet...
*slim* replied to Lshelley21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my pre-op diet on Monday. I am allowed 6 Glucerna shakes a day, 2 yogurts, and all of the calorie free liquids I want (i.e. broth, sf jello). I have to say that now on day 3, I am not that hungry. I was starving yesterday when I had to cook something for my 11 year old. I finally had to tell myself to back away from the fish stick!:frown: I don't even like fish sticks, but I was ready to shove my son out of the way for one. My shakes smell/taste like medicine. I really hate the vanilla. I tried added flavoring to it, but you can still smell that awful mediciny smell. gross! I am going to keep going though. I don't want them to cut me open only to say "no surgery for you!" like Surgery Nazi (i know poor Seinfeld reference). Good luck to you all! -
Yes when food gets stuck, it does hurt! I have been banded since Jan and until this last fill I didnt have problems with being stuck. I can not and do not eat bread. I eat corn bread once in a while bec it is crumbly it goes down easier. I have already thrown up twice this week. I tried to eat a corn dog and it got stuck and the other was on eggs. The stuck feeling is a lot of pressure on my chest and my upper back. I also keep having to spit because it will not go down. I vomit to get relief and then the rest of the day you can only do liquids. The band is tricky, one time you can eat a cetain food with out any problem, then the next time it gets stuck. The band also gets tighter when you are stressed or having a cycle. It is really my fault for getting stuck because I know better than to eat a corn dog. It is very tight in the mornings and I can only eat yogurt or cottage cheese. You will learn to live with out certain foods. It is worth it in the end. I am seventy one pounds lighter. Best Wishes

How long before you were eating mushy-food?
IlliterateJedi posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my surgeon said that it would be 10-14 days before I would be eating semi-solid foods. Basically it boiled down, according to him, that it would be about 10 days before you would probably start feeling hungry enough to want to eat anything semi-solid, and at that point you could start adding in some more semi-solid foods. 14 was just the max before you probably should. I will start on the 10th day or a little sooner - Right now I'm 6 days post-op. I was fortunate to not have been sick by this surgery. I never vomited, never felt ill, etc. While I still have pain where the incisions were, overall I feel pretty decent. Anyway - What I'm wondering is - How long was it before you were able to stomach semi-solid foods? I include in this yogurt, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, grits, cream of wheat, creamy Soups, etc. -
Getting Banded Monday
lyndzileigh replied to DragonflyNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm fabulous. The only reason I am tho is because my doctor advances diets very fast. I'm on a full diet as of this Wednesday. I get my protein through Oikos yogurt, Stonyfield Farms makes it. There is 17g of protein in one 7 ounce cup. I eat two of those a day, and then a can of tuna and I'm good. The only thing is tho, you have to add a packet of Splenda or something...it's kinda nasty otherwise. -
I gave up on my pre op liquid diet
onikenbai replied to jessicakolman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet consisted of baked/broiled chicken and fish, and all the veggies I could munch with the exception of corn, potatoes and cooked carrots. I was also to stay away from sugars (including all fruit) and fats. I could have hummus, olive oil, seasonings, avocadoes, non-fat yogurt and milk. No cheese or yogurt with fruit on the bottom. I lost 21lbs in 3 weeks and, although the diet was a little boring, I didn't feel starved. Quite the contrary. You may want to give that a go because it seemed to work. Zero Protein shakes for me... I was allergic to ALL of them! The first two days are the hardest. After day 3 you really don't feel that hungry. -
I, too, had diarrhea post-op. Mine was due to the antibiotics given me during the surgery. The antibiotics can kill off the normal bacteria found in your colon. If allowed, try yogurt for a couple of your meals. I also asked if I could take a couple of acidophilus capsules that I had from a health food store (previous problems w/post-antibiotic diarrhea!). Both of these helped me. Good luck!

Eating and drinking with sleeve
BlackBerryJuice replied to Weigh8nomor's topic in Food and Nutrition
Call me naughty, but I drink before and after I eat, even though my surgeon's guidelines say not to. Just small sips, nothing major. After learning in gastroenterology class that only particles smaller than 1 mm in size can pass through the pyloric sphincter, I'm a little skeptical of this whole "fluids will push your piece of steak right through" idea. Yogurt, maybe, but not most foods.
