  1. Hey Monica...

awwww im so sorry to hear that you are not going to be banded any more. What happened...? Has it happened before? I hope that you are feeling better after being so unwell. Of course i would still love to keep it touch with you...i have made a great friend in you, and would still love to support you whether you are being banded or not. We are all on a weight loss journey, no matter which path we choose to follow.

I've heard that name many times on the board. Is he really that good? My dr. was great. 5 stars. Dr. Alanis. How are you feeling?

  4. Your funny.. one of my friends and I have a joke between us that we need a wife.. someone just like us who loves to clean and do the daily stuff so we could enjoy our kids more, and not have all the stress..

I actually cried through most of that video, especially the parts involving the young man and his family. They were of no help to him at all, even his mother. MY dad is 85 and when I came to work with him 4 yrs ago he constantly made comments about my weight, and even commented that he never saw me really overeating or binging on junk. Still he would make comments to me about losing weight and how I wasn't like that when I was young. I finally told him I had enough, he was not helping and made me feel horrible with his comments, and to leave my brother alone too. He rarely visits anymore and doesn't need to hear the same tirade from my father hes been hearing for 35 years. He is not a cruel or mean man by nature, but it is one subject that bothers him, mostly because our family health issues are overwhelming.

There really has to be a link somewhere with our genes and the way we are wired. My mothers mother was obese. I have never seen a picture of her where she wasn't. My aunts and uncles say she never overate, walked everywhere (born 1898) and even during the depression when food was scarce she still couldn't lose weight.. In 1952 my mother was pregnant with my 2nd oldest brother and my grandmother was determined to lose weight. She went to the doctor to get some help and figured she was paying for the advice so she would do twice as much as he wanted her to and eat even less. She got a cold and her immune system couldn't fight it and she died of pnemonia in 1953. My mother couldn't breast feed anymore and my brother has always had emotional problems and used to self medicate.. I am the youngest of 8. Three of us are morbidly obese, my sister has lost some because she has chrons but never goes under 220 even though she never eats more then a cup of food at a time. It is the part that scares me about the band.. getting it and not losing.. Being realistic, I definately eat more then a cup of food in a serving now, and hope that I won't be able to when the band is in. Does it really give you that full feeling? I ask because I don't have that feeling ever. It stopped after I had a hysterectomy in 2006. The only way I know I am really full is when I need to throw up.. that is bad. For the past month I have tried to be more self aware and have done fairly well. I ate more yesterday then I normally do, but my blood sugar was all over the place and I was shaky. I ate white bread for the first time in 3 weeks and it made me sick... that was an eye opener.

Sorry to ramble.. My head is spinning from this new bit of info. I will probably watch some of it again, and want to give the link to my nutritionist, shes really awesome. She is even going to go to a lap band seminar so she can better understand the process. My insurance will pay for me to keep seeing her monthly because she works for my lipid specialist, and they both want to help me. I have hereditary cholesterol problems,, I am taking Crestor and it is the first thing that has lowered it in 7 years.

Thanks again for posting the link!!

    Donna

  9. Dr. Hoffman is at Buffalo General Hospital. He is with the same group as Dr. Posner and Dr. Forbes, Comprehensive Weight Loss Program.

  10. My insurance co wanted records for the last 5 yrs at least once a year and the weight at each appt to show that I have been overweight for awhile. It also showed that I had been to the doc for weight problems. They said something about a 6 mos period of weight management prior to surgery, but I was lucky as I had actually been going to a weight clinic for a few months immediately prior to my surgery appts. They didnt say they actually needed those 6 mos in my case....but a lot of companies were requiring it to see if you really needed the surgery and to see if you could stick to something for awhile as the surgery itself was a lifestyle change that you would have to live with and hopefully succeed at.

  11. Good morning Grace;

I was just noticing your ticker on a thread and the amount of weight you've lost is amazing. Did you have your surgery in July or just joined the site at that time? I'm somewhat of a newbie and was banded in January. Have only lost 25 pounds thus far, but would like to know if you've followed the low-carb plan and if or how much do you exercise?

Simply amazing!! Congratulations!!! You are definitely my new inspiration.

  12. How are your nerves treating you today? Mine are ok. I've only had to rush to the bathroom once so far. Yesterday was ok. Monday was hectic - I had three appointments and alot of driving to do. Seeing my surgeon helped me to clam down a little. I don't have to do a pre-op diet. I am trying to be careful to not eat fatty foods. I don't want to show up on the 24th having gained a few pounds. I'm looking into starting a weightloss ticker. I have not found one that I like yet. Have you?

  13. I love it when you post. You look so good, and you and I started about the same weight and we are close to the same age so Your kind of my inspiration. Of course I am only 5'2.

  14. Hi..sounds like we are on a similar journey. When did you get banded? . I was banded 1/10/08, and have lost about 26 pounds. Slow losing...I know, but I am OK with it. I am down to 193 now. I have only been exercising 3 days a week. I know I need to increase that to 5 days a week in order to see faster weight loss. Good luck to you!

  15. feeling a little bummed....haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. Actually gained 4lbs. Gym and all....can't wait for my first fill on Wednesday.

  23. Weight as of Oct 31, 2011 176

  24. I Had Lap Band In Aug 2007. I Have Losst About 73 Pounds. Just Recently Last Week I Went In For A Fill About 2--3 Days Later I Noticed I Had No Restriction And Could Eat Like I Did Before Procedure. I Went Back To The Fill Center Today I Had Gained Two Pounds And When She Aspirated The Band She Said The Amount Of Fluid That Was Suppoed To Be In THerE Was Not. She Then Took Me To X-ray And She Put In .65 Ccs And Said I Needed To Come Back Next Week. After Eating Lunch Today I Can Tell I Am Not Restricted At ALLl. What I Am Trying To Figure Out Is If Anyone Else Has Had These Problems. I Feel Like I May Have A Leak In The Band

  25. Your fill level is how tight your band is and how well it restricts your eating. It takes a while to get to the right fill, then as you lose weight, you may need more (your stomach shrinks, etc). So, you ultimately determine what the correct fill level is. I wish there was a magic number!
