  1. There are literally more things that impact weightloss (and fatloss) than you & I could count together, so I'm not sure where to start. Your info says you're down 22 lbs do I'm assuming you lost some pre-op. That has to be factored in. Losing is losing. You don't lose "before" and "after". It's cumulative. So don't inore the weight you lost pre-op. You also have to factor in an average over time. You're going to have rapid loss, and slow loss, and no loss. But are you maintaining a good rate on average? It's also fairly common for weightloss to slow a biut when you hit solid Proteins, and if you're already eating lean meats and vegetables then it sounds like you hit them pretty early. That might be playing a role. 10 pounds in 3 weeks is over 3 lbs per week. That's above the average rate of loss. There's a lot going on inside your body. A lot of things changing and adjusting. Almost all of them are based on Fluid, and fluid is heavy. I ate under 650 cals for 10 weeks and lost nothing. Obvioulsy I can't truly lose nothing on that intake, or no one would ever be able to starve to death. But there were things going on in my body that kept my weight (not necessarily my fat) unchanged. There are also "rabbits" and "tortoises". Men tend to lose a lot faster. People with more to lose tend to lose faster. Etc. Just be patient.

  3. I'm sorry you're going through this. My vote would be to go for a fill. Many people with proper restriction have what you have - first bite syndrome, tight in the mornings, etc. I don't have first bite syndrome, but I am tighter in the mornings. I find if I'm eating a lot (more than 1/2 c. of food) or I'm hungry 2-3 hours after eating, I need a fill. Keep in mind that I'm 10 months out and have 2.9cc in a 4cc band. Every person is different but those are my guidelines. Keep us posted.

Feeling full 20 minutes after eating

If you're full at 15-20m, don't eat for 30m There's no need for the overfull feeling anymore.. When you get the signal to stop.. stop! Push the plate away, don't try to eat any more bites, and certainly don't say "Well I have 10 more minutes" and make yourself keep eating.
  5. Hi, I’m actually from Paraguay and I’m getting my surgery done in Brazil. Any tips on what to pack for the first 10 days? I don’t even know how many sizes I might change and what clothes I will tolerate. I’m also starting to get very nervous PLEASE any tips of any kind are welcome

    Really nervous!

Update. They have finally put my stuff into insurance. Waiting on the call that I'm approved. If I am, I'm hoping for 9/30 or 10/1-10/2 date. I'm feeling better about the RNY just nervous about surgery now. So waiting to be done as even without a fill I sometimes get stuck.

    First Fill Tomorrow afternoon!!!

Glad to hear your first fill went okay. I actually had a little tiff with my dr's office this morning. I called to confirm my appt on the 5th and first they didn't even have me down:angry:. Then I asked if my surgeon would be doing it and they said "more than likely", well I hit the roof. I will not be getting a fill on the 5th unless its my surgeon. This band is my baby! Backstory- I haven't seen my surgeon since I had surgery on Jan 7, when I had my 1 week followup I only saw him in the hallway. The nurses did my followup. 1 nurse in particular, I guess she's like the head office nurse now is the one that does the followups. She also does all the emergency calls during the week. Well, the phone girl said that she does fills when my doc can't for any reason. I told her that I was a self-pay patient and I was not comfortable with that at all. I choose my surgeon because of HIS reputation, not his office staff. Well, that went over real well. About 10 minutes later said nurse calls me at work, trying to explain to me all the training and such that she has had and how she has specific patients that request her for fills.
  9. Well after 10 months of waiting for insurance to get their act together, I've finally been denied insurance coverage for banding. Disappointing, but glad there's finally a decision. I plan to follow-up with Dr. Benevides' office on Monday to get the ball rolling for self-pay. I'm VERY HAPPY with the support I've received from Dr. B's office staff...the 10 month wait wasn't their fault... I'll keep you posted, I'm gonna FINALLY get banded and I can't wait!!!!!!!

    Can you lose too fast?

I started at 407 and in the first few weeks I was losing almost 4lbs a day, and then at 3weeks I stalled for 3 weeks. After that I slowed down to about 10-15lbs a month
  11. I have to take them for 10 days post op, I am on day 5 and I have bruises every where! One that especially annoying is on my wrist where they did a blood gas draw day 2 and now the bruise that started out small and round in crawling down my wrist and hurts. Do you think the bruising should be something to worry about or is it normal?
  12. So tomorrow it is my one week anniversary since being banded and I get to start puréed food. I'm pretty sure this means I have to start the one bite per 10 minutes and seperating my drinking from eating but just wanted to make sure. Haven't been hungry at all but I'm looking forward to some yogurt and cottage cheese, god I sound like such a girl.

Almost to 3 weeks post op!

I was banded 10 days ago. I see the weight coming off but if I do too much out and about,I feel weak. Also, starting yesterday, I've had the worst hunger pangs I have experienced. Anyone else?
  14. Just wanted to pop and say "Hi" and introduce myself. I am 41 year old female. I have been married to a wonderful man for 23 years. We have 7 children-5 boys and 2 girls. Their ages are 21, 19, 17, 15, 11, and 5 year old twin boys. Yes, I am very busy, but not busy enough to be thin! LOL. My BMI is 43, weight 276. I am through all of the tests and evaluations and am now waiting anxiously for insurance approval. I hope to really get to know all of you. I have been active on a "twins" site for a couple of years and have gained some really great friends. Hoping to add some more from here.

    Hello everybody !!!!!!

Awwwwwwwwww thanks guys sorry bout my screen name its the first thing that popped in my head lol Thanks for the advice aswell , i think im more nervous than she is its on 10 days until banding day for her and i have the butterflies in my tummy lol . Ive been reading most of the posts in the forum its so informative and ive taken notes . thanks once again !!!!
  16. I truely feel for you as I recently went through that as well. I was starving by about three days postop. (My surgery was Nov. 19, 2009) During the 2 weeks on the liquid stage after surgery it was pretty tough as I felt so hungry constantly. My stomach was so loud with all the grumbling!! When the pureed stage came the hunger wasn't quite as bad and then was even better when I could eat solids. My surgeon does not put in any fill whatsoever when the band is put in so there is no restriction. I didn't get my first fill until about 6 weeks later. Hang in there. Thankfully it's a "not forever situation" and it will get better. You will feel it was so worth it once you get through this time in your journey and the pounds start coming off.
  17. Hi, I am having my EGD on 10/5/10. I should then get my surgery date. Any fellow Tennesseans out there about to have the surgery that can over any support?

    Undergarments

When I had my first son at 19, my Dr. told me to wear a bra at all times, even while sleeping, as long as I was nursing. He said this would help to keep my breasts from sagging to my belly button by the age of 22. I have worn an underwire bra ever since. I even wore an underwire coming home after surgery. So I am 30 now and have nursed 3 babies. My breasts still feel and look great, IMHO lol. I am a D cup (DD before surgery) so I am not HUGE but I am not tiny either. My question, do you think the same principle would work for the belly? During the day I have been wearing Control Top pantyhose in order to smooth out some bumps and rolls. I am wondering if maybe I would wear them constantly it would help with some sagging issues. Anybody heard of this?

    not patient, not happy

I found out today that it will be a week or two before I get my results from the first round of Cushing's testing. I can't help but pitch a big hissy fit at the thought of waiting two whole weeks for my test results. Dr. E will be out of town until next Monday, and I'll be back in Idaho by then. It just feels so far away, not only in time but space as well. I see a new PCP tomorrow, my doc has moved to Everette, and that is just too far to go. I've been with her about 10 years, but I was thinking it was time to move on to a different doctor, since she wasn't really taking me seriously anymore. I mean, I had sleep apenea and serous sleep problems and I basically had to twist her arm to get it taken care of. She wanted to blame most of my issues on "needs therapy" as opposed to really wanting to find the cause. I am just feeling so sorry for myself lately. Monday I ended up in the ER with another bout of celulitus. And my headache has gotten worse. Probably from all the stress from the Cushing's and decideing to quit school for now. Pain makes things worse. It just does. I feel anxious and stressed. I'm out of the lexapro, so I guess I need to get that refilled. Duh. I miss my pilaties ball. How funny is that? I started to use a new drawing book, "drawing on the Right side of the brain." it's pretty interesting. A very different way of looking at things, much more an adult program than the Mark Kistler books.

After a few days it felt like how it felt right after sugery (that bad)/ So, had a CT scan done. Apparently, a scan doesn't show if you pulled a stitch. She just wanted to make sure everything was "working still going through right ect. She thinks I did pull a stitch & is hoping it will heal itself. So, it's been about 10 days & my belly is feeling better. NOW, I'm having back issues!!!! It first felt like Siatica pain. It's horrible!! I can't bend iver pick up my kids do house work excerise ANYTHING!! I'm really bumbed out! I have been eating all the wrong foods! I was doing so well too. :frown:

    On my way..

Hello! I'm 52 years old and after being overweight all my adult life, I've decided to finally do something that I hope will provide a permanent solution. :cursing: I live with my twelve ( and a half year old son) and I am the only breadwinner so... it's very important that I get insurance approval. I have United Health care with a very high deductable... thanks to changes my company of 25 years sees as progress. :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: I've attended two lap band seminars and have seen my PCP to get his input. He says he will help me get approved by providing the documentation. I have my first appointment on May 30th with the surgeon. I hope to get things moving. I'm told by the insurance that it will take several weeks to get an answer after the documention is provided. I am so committed. Whatever the ins. company says I need to do.. I will do .. so my journey has started and I will post my progress as I wade through the sea of rules and paperwork to get to the beach I long for. :cursing: One of my top 10 on my bucket list is to wear a one piece swin suit on the beach without a coverup and feel good. :mad2: I want to be able to sleep without sitting up. Have sex without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack or smother to death. I hope to get off high blood pressure medicine and be able to have more energy so I can spend more time with my son. I hope this will help my asthma. I would like to let myself be photographed (full length). I've read several other posts which have been very helpful. I, too, look around the room to find I am the largest person in the room. I feel guilty eating in front of people. I can so relate to this group.. I long for the day when I can post my progress.. There are so many little things things I want to do. The rest of my bucket list will follow.. :rolleyes2: :rose:I'm ready to get started on this journey!! Nechole

    I'm back....

HI all..........I had my surgery on the 31st of may. I stayed in Tacoma for a week because we live so far away. Week check up was great lost 9 lbs. so that is 18 lbs. in 18 days. (had to do 10 days of clear liquid before surgery and now 3 weeks of clear liquids) Feeling great and just taking it easy to recover from the surgery. Nice to be home...Tacoma is great but too many trees I am used to open spaces.
  25. I started mine 10 days early the day after my surgery! So strange that several have as well...
