I agree with the others who said gas. Take Gas-x strips and walk as much as possible. You don't need to go fast, by the way. If you go outside, take a friend. Good luck and best wishes. Karen

I agree on the being careful with the treadmill impact. About two years ago, when my orthopedic surgeon told me I was definitely a candidate for knee replacement, he also recommended putting it off as long as I could with joint Fluid replacement therapy. The actualy product was Supartz. The first week they shot my knees with a cortizone substance, then every week thereafter for 5-6 weeks with Supartz, which is a thick goopy substance. Bottom line is that it worked. Insurance paid for it, and will let you do it every six months from the last injection. (Yes, it hurts, but I'm thinking not as much as knee replacement and no cutting.) Also, a general surgeon told me the technology on knee replacements is improving so fast that I should put it off as long as possible. I'm figuring my weight loss will help a lot, so we'll see about that soon. So .... I wouldn't overdo it on the treadmill. If your knees start rebelling, hit the ellipti-hell or the bike. Or swim. Just saw the new ElliptiGo on GMA and that looks interesting. A bike crossed with an ellipti-hell. Hope that helps. CC

how'd u do in yr pre op supervised diet
DeLarla replied to rene2005's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A lot of it depends on your surgeon. Many people aren't even given a pre-op diet. I was banded with about 6 other people, and half of them ate piles of Mexican food the night before surgery (bitches, hahaha.) Everyone else had different pre-op dieting instructions. One gal was on a liquid protein shake fast for several weeks. I was simply told to eat low-cal for one week, then fast 24 hours before. I did okay for a couple days, then binged bigtime. I was worried they'd turn me away, but the doctor just said, "don't worry, Honey, this Band is going to help you." -

It Finally Happened - Won't Happen Again
Helen the Cat commented on BigToeVSG's blog entry in BigToeVSG's Blog
It is SOOOO hard to learn to eat slow!!! FOr 42 years I have eaten as fast as I can! I am a nurse in Labor and Delivery, and if you have a labor patient and you get a lunch break you are lucky!!! You learn to eat fast, cause your patient might get to the point of being ready to delivery, and if you don't eat fast, you might not get to eat at all! So for 42 years (that's how long I have been a L&D nurse) I have eaten fast. And that habit has carried over to my meals at home and when we go out. It is SOOO hard to break! I TRY to remember to count my bites, and count how many times I chew to slow myself down. But I usually forget and when I have shoveled everything in as fast as I can, I think "Oh NO! I did it AGAIN!" So no my hubbie tries to remember to tell me to EAT SLOW! But like I said, HARD HABIT TO BREAK!!! -

I'm getting ready to start my pre-op, my DR. told me to just try slim fast low carb, it has 17 g of protien and only 4 carbs, i couldn't find it in the store so I ordered it off line it only took 2 days to get here and was about $6.00 a 4 pack. -
I'm on board to get the sleeve, hopefully January...Here's my quick story...2 years ago, I had surgery to get the LapBand, and due to excessive scar tissue (from a gallbladder operation), the surgeon was unable to put in the band. He mentioned the sleeve would be an option, but all I wanted to do was run far away from wls. Fast forward 2 years later, I have met with 2 different surgeons and after a long weekend of excessive eating, drinking and extreme fun and partying, meeting with the surgeon, deep soul searching, discussion with mom and husband - I am doing it!!!! I have jumped on the weightloss sleeve train and am excited!!!!!! I am 42 and can't wait to be extremely selfish and do this for myself and absolutely no one else!!!!! WOO HOO..... I'm even looking forward to adding my ticker below....I had one in lapband talk, but after the surgery gone bad, I never updated it again...Unfortunately now it will be a few heavier, but eventually it will be much lower....I AM NOW A MEMBER OF THE VERTICAL SLEEVE TALK FORUM OFFICIALLY.....I'm really excited!!!!!

Thanks for the comments  I'm still on liquids and i'm so nervous that I am drinking to fast and i'm afraid I will stretch it out. I'm starting my 3rd week next week and my doctor told me I could start eating eggs in the morning or oatmeal, but I don't know what else I should be having like for lunch or dinner. Any suggestions?

I am throwing this out here for whomever to post. I have been reading everyones post. I have noticed that everyones weight loss is different. Some people lose slow and some fast. Mattie's info on her last post was wonderful. "Mattie thanks for posting the rules and the things that you eat." That has given me some ideas that I know will help me on the long run and will surely use. I am sure there are some newbies and slow losers that would like to ask this question. So I will do it for everyone. We all need some ideas and help on this journey. To all the great losers: The magic ??? is...What are you eating and/or doing that is helping you lose the weight? What has helped you be so successful in your journey? Jackie 4/22/04 331.5/312.5/175 "To Blessed To Be Big"

My favorite fast lunch or dinner is 5 large shrimp w/a little cocktail sauce (maybe a tbsp). I cut the shrimp into little bite-size prices then toss in the cocktail sauce to coat each piece. Yummy! A little grocery store near my work sells 'shrimp cocktail for one' at their fish counter. It has 5 shrimp and cocktail sauce - perfect to grab and go. :-)

Well I did it 2 days post on...
liannatx replied to stevecfo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was able to easily drink water like that after about the 4th day, a bottle in an hour to hour and a half. The stomach swelling is going down. I can still easily drink my liquids in about an hour per bottle or glass... however, I can barely eat 2 - 2.5 oz of food now that I am on solids, so it certainly seems that the liquids do indeed just empty from the stomach pretty fast. -
Well, currently my weight is 275. At first I wasn't happy, what with the slow progress I've had to endure, but then, I realized I'm not the same person. My clothes don't fit right anymore; and it's crazy because they were close to snug before and now they're just big. I bypassed the "just right" phase. I'm still refusing to buy new clothes as of yet because I can't seem to see myself wasting money on clothes I won't be able to wear for long. The one thing that has worked well for me is my body shape. I may weigh 275 but I don't look it. I look about 240 which is quite all right with me. I'm waiting to lose at least another 30-40 pounds which might be by the upcoming springtime. That would be perfect because then I'll be able to buy cheap summer clothes. I've finally accepted that my weight loss isn't going to be quick n easy as I had always assumed. It seems that my body's going to fight me all the way. And who can blame it, right? It's been so used to lugging all the extra heavy weight for soooo many years. But, I have noticed a trend in my weight loss. I'll stalll for like a month and then BAM! I'll lose ten pounds then stall again and here we go losing again. Knowing how my body's choosing to lose the weight is not what I would have chosen for myself but I can accept it. I haven't been this weight since I was in my early 20s. I'm feeling good about myself. The exercise in the gym and the weight loss combined have made it easy for me to even be able to walk fast without getting all out of breath. I used to walk so slow and now my boyfriend can't even keep up with me. This is a whole new feeling for me and I'm loving the fact that I'm able to enjoy it. It feels like a whole new natural high. But it's a challenge, also. Don't get me wrong. There have been times that I've cried just because I wasn't able to eat everything that was on my dinner plate. There were times when I was craving a certain food and not to be able to even finish half of it has brought to my knees a times. It's been a real struggle adjusting to the fact that food cannot control my life as it used to. Hell, I'm still struggling and it's not something that I think will ever completely go away but I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm healthier, weigh less and what could've been high blood pressure is no more. I'm turning my life around around and even though it's a slow process I can see the finish line.

Sounds like you're working it perfectly... eating slow and small portions. I honestly never had trouble with anything unless I ate too fast or over eat.

Congratulations! I hope you recover fast...

You sound ready to get on the fast track to weight loss. Good for you. If your not already, I would start an excersise program. It has made all the difference for me. Start off slow and gradually increase the intensity and/or duration. I agree with the above advice to track what you eat. I did it for the first 4 months or so. Then it became second nature and I stopped writing it down.

My Dh was nervous too, but at the same time excited for me b/c he knew this is what I wanted and needed. Ditto's to what Jack said.... the op is fast and pretty darn safe (as compaired to gastric, etc.) and the recovery is fast too. I too am scared of the unknown but when you read the many many folks that do well it will ease your mind. Good luck

Sleeved Jan 17th
LittleLizzieLilliput replied to mikki42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through this as well. It's so many things. I was sleeved the 17th too. Physically fine, not a problem at all with soreness. But..mentally not so good. I have had a tough week. I think of food all the time, and have crazy cravings. I have also experienced hunger which has been disappointing. Started with 1st real food today, 1/2 scambled egg...was so looking forward to it. It tasted good, but I did not feel good afterwards. I get heartburn and gassy. Hoping it gets better, but so far, I have serious "buyers remorse". Doesn't feel worth the 22 lbs down since surgery. #1, when we lose weight fast, if your a woman, it releases all the stored hormones in there. #2, what we did by having this surgery is completely change how we live our lives and for some of us there is a mourning period. I cried solid for the 7 days between week 4 and 5. That's when I learned the only way out of it...is through it. I had to feel all those emotions, the regret, the fear and loss of how I used to sooth myself with food, all of it. Most of us, 99.999% of us get over these feelings, we are relearning and with that comes letting go of the past. It's OK to feel how you feel. Just keep pushing through. 23 doesn't seem worth it but wait till you are at 50 or 100. Everything is so much better! #3, are you on a Proton pump inhibitor like Prilosec? It's helped me so much. I had 24/7 acid and the doc told me to use that. Hang in there, it does get better. I'll be honest, I told everyone to not compliment me on my weightloss for the first month or so because it just upset me so much. I said "I'm miserable, I'm upset and I regret it right now. People telling me I look good just makes me feel like they only care that I'm skinner not that I'm miserable and can't stop crying". I swear, for most of us it gets so much better! -
I am scheduled for March 3rd
sbailey1 replied to sbailey1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi takefeline! I start it tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it at all. But you are right. The time will probably go by fast. I haven't got my diet yet so I don't know what I can and can't have! What's yours consist of? I am in IL Stacie -
One way to stay on it is to realize how lucky you are. I was on two weeks of opti fast only. It was hard. But my surgery only took 12 mins. The doc said my liver was real small.

I was just wondering is there were others out there who would like to share some ideas and recipes for protien shakes? What type of protien do you use? What Flavor do you like? Do you use Water, Milk or Soy, almond etc...? Do you use a blender or a shaker? Do you drink it over ice? Im currently using Isopure Zero Carb Creamy vanilla with a banana every morning made with milk. I put it in the blender and then pour it over ice to keep it cold. I used to blend it with ice bI cant stand the foam at top. I would like to try other recipes but im scared to venture--ok im scared to waste money on a product i wont like..I tied unjury chocolate and i like it, I tried the Unjury strawberry and IM SICK OF IT!!! I tried the Unjury chicken broth flavor and ITS FOR SALE unopened if any wants it. I also have several single serve pouches I can sell too. Any ideas or suggestions would be great..I do protien shakes for Breakfast so they need to be fast on on the go....

Giving my concerns a voice!
Catherine707 replied to TatorTot's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Giving up one's drug of choice (food) is a big scary step, and I once thought that I would never get my cravings under control.... Fast forward 11 months, and have lost over 100 pounds, and eat much smaller healthy portions than I ever could before having the surgery. Yes, there have been bad days and some bad emotions, but I came to realize that they were just moments in time, and that food really wasn't the friend and crutch that I thought it was before surgery. Good luck, I know that if you move forward you will be pleased with the results in the long run.
