I also did it through Kaiser SoCal! I absolutely loved the Options classes. They were so incredibly educational & I felt fully prepared for the surgery. I adored their program -

It is the ricotta bake the marinara sauce is optional so is the little extra mozzarella… here is the link to the recipe I used https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/ -
A little late to the game, but I just had my Bypass on 5/15/2023. I am flying to Italy for a 2 week trip on 6/28, so around 6.5 weeks total from surgery to trip. I discussed it with my doctor and he had no reservations about the timing, I think he would have been comfortable up to about 5 weeks out. According to my food plan, I will be on soft foods by then, and fish/salmon is one of the best "starter" meats, so I plan on having a lot of seafood while over there. I do plan on taking a healthy stash of 1-off protein powder mixes to dump into a bottle of water if I need to supplement. I would recommend requesting a hotel room with a mini-fridge and putting some yogurt/cottage cheese/protein drinks/etc in there so that you aren't constantly trying to figure out meals.

Being tired is really my biggest complaint. Besides being over the protein drinks. Which aren't going away anytime soon. The only medication I'm on is my vitamins, constipation medication, and omeprazole for GERD. I do use a C-PAP, but that's not going to cause problems. It's so hard being productive when I'm so incredibly fatigued.

Yeah like they said, pouch resets isn't really a thing. It's essentially just putting you back on a diet. The main one I've seen is the protein shake diet & it works because it puts you back into a basic calorie deficit. You can do that without drinking just liquids, make it a better experience for yourself!

I like the bariatric pal protein shots. If you get them, make sure they are the complete protein. My favorite flavors are the cran-grape and apple. They come in 25g and 15g. It's the only protein I've been able to tolerate flavor wise.

Fairlife shakes were the only ones I could tolerate, right after surgery. Expensive!!! But, they were my main source of protein until I was on solid food.

Hello . I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing back pain and difficulties after your surgery. It can be frustrating to not be able to enjoy activities and experiences because of the discomfort. I can offer some general suggestions that may be helpful. First, it is important to share your concerns and symptoms with your doctor or health care provider. They have access to your medical history and can give you personalized advice based on your specific situation. They may want to perform additional examinations or tests to better understand the cause of your persistent back pain. In the meantime, consider exploring other forms of transportation or assistance to minimize the strain on your back. This could involve the use of mobility aids such as a cane or walker, or the use of a wheelchair or other accessible options if necessary. In addition, talk to your doctor about seeing a physical therapist or rehabilitation specialist who can guide you through exercises and techniques to strengthen your back muscles and improve your mobility.

i get nauseous if i am hungry. I also get very hangry!!! If I am not going to be able to eat for a long while, i will at least drink a protein shake to help with the hunger. I am only 5 weeks out. I try to stay on an eating schedule of 3 times a day and a small snack of fruit in the afternoon and a protein shake a couple hours after dinner

I am SO TIRED. Is anyone else not able to shake the fatigue? I'm just over 3 weeks out, on puree and eating more calories - roughly 500. I usually get my Protein goals in. liquids are hit or miss, but I normally hit that or close on most days. Maybe dehydration? Not sure. But, man, I could sleep all day.

Sorry my phone is doing it’s own thing As I was saying this journey is individual to each of us. Many are experiencing protein burnout, being waterlogged and other temporary bumps and snags. We are not trying to discourage or scare you, it may not happen to you. If it does it let’s you know, you are not alone, and this too shall pass. Best wishes on your journey and thanks for joining us.

I totally totally understand exactly what you're talking about mine's is two protein shakes 3 to 4 oz of protein two cheese sticks and plenty of water I'm doing that 2 weeks before my surgery and then a week before my surgery all liquid I started 2 days ago 3 weeks out because I needed to try myself to see if I can do this and it has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do my stomach growling I just been trying to just eat the Popsicles I've only been able to eat the meat in the green beans and it is hard it's a mental thing and today I did fail that's why I started early just to see my mental state of mind but it is hard but don't give up because you have waited so long to go through this and wait for your surgery cuz you don't want to get there and you stay up under longer than normal because your liver hasn't shrunk I'm not sure of what doctor is not requiring anyone to not go through this liquid diet. I googled why it was important to do it. I will get back on track today and stick with it until June 13th thats my day of the my sleeve. Don't give up!!!!!!

It’s definitely crazy to see the variations. I’m getting ready for Day 4 and I’ve been pretty good. I do miss chewing food but I haven’t been very hungry and if I get hungry, I will drink more water or I’ll chew ice. So far the Isopure Strawberries and Cream protein has been my absolute favorite shake and is helping a ton.

Food Portions - 6mos post op
Arabesque replied to cookiecutter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Check with your dietician to be sure as different plans have different requirements at different stages as you progress & you may have different needs. Ask how much protein, how much vegetables & how much of any carbs you may be allowed. I was advised by my surgeon that by goal, which was 6 months for me, I’d be eating about a cup of food. He also drew a circle about the size of a side plate. He then drew another circle about half the ‘plate’ (about inner palm size for my medium size hand) & said that’s your protein. He drew a third circle which was about a third of the ‘plate’ circle for my vegetables. I still basically still follow this at 4 years but do about half & half protein & vegetables now. I take 30-45 minutes to eat this. I sometimes experience what I call a slow full signal. It can occur 30 or so minutes after I’ve eaten. I also don’t eat until I feel full but until I’ve had enough & don’t need anymore whether I’ve eaten all my appropriately sized portion or not. Don’t know why it happens though. It’s pretty random but seems to occur more often after breakfast. 🤷🏻♀️ -
Hi folx, My highest weight was 383 lbs in November 2020. I have Sleep Apnea, Hypertension (Managed Well on Meds), Acid Reflux, Mild Hiatal Hernia, and Anomalous Right Coronary Artery. When I had my sleeve surgery in November 2020, my BMI was 50.1. I was on a steady decline post op. I exercise, and somewhat maintain diet. I don’t overeat, but I am also not as religious as immediately following surgery. I have a new insurance provider because of a new job and would like to consider revision to a SADI-S since the gastric sleeve part is already done. And, it’s been shown to have the best long term outcomes. I have bariatric benefits, but I would like to know what I need to do to get my insurance to cover a revision. Also, after speaking to some medical professionals, I learned that with a BMI of 50.1, I probably should have had DS or Bypass to begin with. Why didn’t my doctor talk to me more about other options. I mean I had a great Doc. Best by far. But would have liked to had some more conversations. I know that DS won’t fix the reflux, but I think it could help address the other things. Thoughts?

Doc said stop taking diabetes meds, take the anti nausea meds and rest increase your protein

It's not just you. I had a hard time finding foods and protein that tasted good. It's a process for sure.
-
I've experienced that with my past favorite bottled protein shake. It was just too thick and I had to dilute it

First of all, complete agree with this just being a "normal" stall and the best way out is to just stay the course. It will eventually break if you are following your plan and tracking everything as closely as you are now. If you like nuts and want something different for lunch, I usually make myself a salad with 1/4 oz of nuts or seeds (I like pistachios and pumpkin seeds), 2 oz of rotisserie chicken, 1 oz of leafy greens like spinach or baby kale and 1 oz of berries or other lower-carb fruits/veggies like tomatoes, and 1/2 oz of salad dressing (which can be something of your choosing; I like poppyseed dressing but it's a bit sugary. I just allow for it elsewhere in my day). The whole thing is under 300 calories, is well balanced, contatins more protein than the nuts alone and will keep you full longer. Another way to incorporate nuts in a more "substantial" way is to put, again, 1/4 oz of them in a Greek yogurt, maybe also add some kind of lower-sugar fruit like berries. You end up with a meal closer to 20g of protein depending on what brand and quantity of yogurt you're having. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
Changing Chris replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my sleeve surgery on April 18. Still feel hungry all the time too, but get full fast now when eating the soft foods. This threw me off at first because my fantasy before surgery was that I'd never feel hungry again, but what actually happened afterwards was the opposite! On my first week post op appointment I think my Dr. thought I was accusing him of giving me a bad sleeve.. HAHAHA! Today is the day I get to start having "regular" foods as tolerated. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time. Funny thing is, I don't even know where to start, so all I have in the house to eat is the stuff from my soft foods diet! 🙂 Hardest part for me is keeping track of my protein and fluid intake as I have a very busy work schedule and don't always log right away. I know this is a week point and I'm working on it. I lost 19 lbs pre op, and 27 lbs post op so far. Tomorrow is my one month post op follow up. Their scale usually adds a couple extra lbs than mine so I'll have more official numbers tomorrow. Good Luck Everyone! And thanks for posting, the topical conversations found on this site truly help some of us get thru! -
I have unflavored protein powder 30 gr protein and clear berry flavored premier protein drink. Considering mixing 1 scoop unflavored with the clear then dividing it between 4 20 oz containers of water to dilute the taste of the berry flavor. That should help meet my liquid and protein goals. If I can handle it

April 25th is my RNY date! Buddies?!
longhaul68 replied to Prioritizing Myself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How is my late April surgery cohort faring? I’ve moved into soft foods with some caution but everything is going and staying down. I am trying 3-5 small protein heavy meals a day. Water goals have been harder to meet but the vitamins are ok. I’d forgotten to add B12 supplement until yesterday (!) so just started. My fatigue mid day was bonkers. Hoping the B12 helps. My first surgeon follow up is on Friday, I’m a little data obsessed, measuring and watching scale. Overall feeling more flexible, energetic (mornings) and happy to see the steady loss of 23 lbs since surgery. -

Arabesque replied to justsillyme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with the others: it’s not the cashews. Stalls are a common & important part of your weight loss. It’s when your body shuts down to take stock of your changing needs & then resets things like your metabolism, digestive hormones, etc. They usually last 1-3 weeks. Do look for a lunch that is going to offer more protein (1oz cashews provides only 5g of protein) & includes other foods for a wider variety of nutrients. Try a meat like chicken or tuna, or tofu or a boiled egg, etc. with a small side of salad vegetables, or an omelette, soup, etc. Have a chat with your dietician for some meal ideas -

Oh geeze..yes I definitely messed up. It’s pounds not KG’s and I have no idea how to fix that lol. Im still trying to figure this all out I am so sorry. I weigh 203 pounds currently. I think you all have given such great advice!! Love the topping idea and will lean towards a more rich protein source for lunch. The 700 calories were including the cashews. Thank you all so much!!
