Sleeve is not cooperating today
HDubSleevery replied to HDubSleevery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oooh the dehydration could be a factor. Between the head cold, the Nyquil, and an experiment with the blender and a decaf coffee smoothie last night I may have needed some fluids. I had some applesauce, some watermelon, and some yogurt today so I think things settled down later in the morning. The GREAT news is that I finally get it! I made a variation of Eggface's ricotta bake for dinner and put two tablespoons on my plate. I was thinking a tablespoon would be about an ounce. I ate half of what was on my plate and I got that "don't eat another bite" feeling. I used to have a problem with binging so I really had to think about not putting the next bite in my mouth. My brain said "do it" and my stomach said "don't you dare". I cleared my plate and have been fine ever since! I am gonna count this as an NSV. It was the first time that I really felt like I was having a normal meal since the pre-op diet. I can see light at the end of the tunnel and it is SO great! (I have a 2 year old and so I use the same plates and silverware that she does. It helps me feel like I am having a "right size" portion. LOL!) This board ROCKS! -
I use a Fitbit scale. When I weigh it uploads my weight into my profile. I don't always look down when I weigh. I just figure I'm capturing data that I can look at on the graph in my app. I hadn't looked at my graph in a while and it gives me warm fuzzies to see the downward graph line. To my surprise my graph line was jagged. Up one pound, down one pound. Up two pounds down 3 pounds, etc. So I log in to check the data. To my surprise it was logging in two weigh ins a couple times a week. So I ask if anyone else is using my scale. My husband pipes up that he has been using it for a long time. Apparently it can differentiate between two people unless they are within 5 pounds of each other. Lol...he was literally stepping all over my data collection. So maybe a dorky, funny story but a super cool NSV since I now weigh more than 5 pounds less than my husband for the first time in our 20 year marriage!!!

@ Justine13: Well they go up to a 3X so I'm hoping I can realistically be in a 1X-2X by November. That would be at least a 50 lbs total weight loss for me. I have a lot to lose. I have my "skinny" clothes on hand in the house and I don't foresee buying anything new except bras, underwear and pants as the weight comes off. I have a whole stable of black pants and leggings on hand, but none have belt loops or zippers. They truly are my "big girl" pants with the elastic waist. I just can't wait to feel comfortable in my own skin. Just comfortable being able to cross my legs like a lady, wear a mini-skirt on "date night," sit comfortably at a booth in a restaurant, not have to request a seat belt extender on the plane, and sit Indian style on the floor w/o effort. Little rewards like that, I want to experience. I think the lingo on the forum is NSV (non scale victory). I think I got it right?....LOL. I just look forward to what I will be able to accomplish with this new tool (The Sleeve) to help me with my weight loss and health. Sigh...Lots of work to do!

Yes, there's a lot of work to do, but it's SO worth it when you start having those NSV's !!!

So I'm on this committee that meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. I missed last month since I was on FMLA and this month's meeting (I'm 2 months out) was today. It is in the college of pharmacy in a classroom that we reserve so it has those chairs with the tiny desk thing that goes up and down in front of you. I hope you know what I mean. Prior to surgery, I would always have to leave the desk up and pull another chair over to me in order to write/look at portfolios on that chair's desk because the desk would come nowhere close to going down. Got some funny looks the first few months that I did that. Today, I went in, sat in my usual seat, started to scoot another desk over and stopped. I kinda looked around to see if anyone was paying attention and decided to lower the desk on my chair to see how much farther I would have until I could put it down. IT WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to tell someone and I was afraid people I know would think I'd gone crazy for being so excited about something like that....figured I could Celebrate here without anyone thinking I was TOO crazy! I thought I was at goal 25 pounds ago so I bought myself two Miss Me pair of jeans from the buckle. Size 30 which is a 9/10 Well those are now too big. So I went into The Buckle to see what size I am now. I grabbed some 28 waist which is a 5/6. The salesman said what size do you have there? I told him 28 and he said oh I think those are going to be too big. I had held them up and thought there is no way I am fitting into these. I laughed at the salesman and said, do they train you to say things like that to flatter women so they will buy this stuff? He snickered and said no, but the 28's are going to be too big. I said yeah, right! I out them on and THEY WERE TOO BIG! I now wear a 27 XTRA LONG. I didn't buy any that day as I couldn't find any I liked. But believe me I came home and ordered three pair!

6 months ago today I was shuffling around the halls of Northeast Medical Center as best I could after lifesaving/life changing surgery. Now one of my biggest goals will be achieved next Saturday when I complete Charlotte's Race Fest 10k...on my 34th birthday!! What's your favorite or most astounding non-scale victory??

My rings fit!!! At my biggest my ring finger was a size 9... now my size 9's are falling off and my size 7's are PERFECT. Tax return may help re-size those big 'ol rings!

I have spent years avoiding the rides at Kings Dominion because I either could not fit or thought my spleen was going to bust. I went saturday with my son and guess what we rode?? Everything!!!! I fit comfortably on all of the roller coasters and other rides. What a great feeling. Greg

Ok, I've had to do some journaling to stop and change perspective. Instead of focusing on what's ahead of me, to focus on what's happening today and what I've done this week. 1) Stopped drinking alcohol and I have only wanted to have a drink last night when **** hit the fan at home. 2) Stopped drinking soda and didn't miss it, crave it or anything. 3) Have gotten better about watiting at least 30 min between eating & drinking fluids 4) Consistenly getting about 68 oz of fluids each day 5) Reduced my caffiene intake (on 1/2 caff, not extra bold) coffee. I had caffeine withdrawal one day, and I've been fine since 6) Started exercising each day on my bike at home. 7) Started logging my food again and wearing my fitbit 8) Writing in my journal daily about EVERYTHING! That's a lot ot accomplish and I'm just gonna focus on this for today! -
sure! : ) and it is amazing what the Chinese can do with needles (the 2nd NSV) .... lol

That is not a small NSV but a huge victory. SMILE You must have been so smug. I am just off my second leg of a business trip off a commuter airplane and no longer spill into the other seat. I love my sleeve.

Really? NSV already? So I've been stuggling with the Protein powders, but I think I've got that whipped with the Isopure RTD. However, my husband made a comment about my jeans getting baggie last night so I thought tonight I might check my measurements since I hadn't checked them in 2-weeks Here goes. Neck 17 - 16-3/4 Waist 51 - 50 Hips 55 - 47...yeah, I lost 7 inches off my hips! So, with these numbers I decided to see if I could get into my old size 22 100% cotton Levis that I would not get rid of for the last 3 years. YEAH BABY! They fit!!!! With that great feeling I pulled a pair of 18's my sister-in-law gave me. First, I could never get them over my thighs. Not tonight! They are up and although I cannot button them, I was able to get them all the way on! I'm feeling frogy! :-) Oh, and down 8-lbs in 7-days. Woo Hoo!!!

Today marks 90 days post op for me! Surgery was 2/12/16 Highest Weight: 399.4 Surgery Weight: 381.4 Current Weight: 336.4 63 lbs down total! Some NSV's: I no longer take up more than 1/2 of the loveseat at my parents house. I can sit in chairs without fear that I'm not going to fit. I can walk up stairs or walk in general without being out of breath. I no longer have the automatically grab the biggest size a store offers. I feel overall more confident. Before/Current photo: Scar Update: I created a cookbook: I said it right, I created a cookbook! After tons of feedback that I had received from followers on Facebook and Instagram, I turned my photos into real recipes to share with the world. If anyone is interested, they are $10 and I mail them out the same day! A lot of work went into making this and I kept the cost at the same cost that I had to create these and cover shipping too. https://www.etsy.com/shop/alighterkaan?ref=hdr_shop_menu

I've always had "deep veins" and I've always been pretty sure this is nurse-code for "fat". I used to squick and squirm about getting IVs or doing blood draws, but eventually I learned to just calm the f* down and everyone's life is easier. I have coached people through which veins might hold, which veins blow easier, where to try looking, and a lot of "no it's ok you can keep poking." I've stopped having to ask for a pediatric needle as I've gotten better at telling people where to look, but it's still a chore. Can't ever find the one in my elbow - always gotta go with my hand.... My surgeon sent me for my 100-lbs-lost blood work (85+ since pre-surgery diet but 104 since my first visit!) and I went to the lab, took a deep breath and said, "I'm pretty patient about getting stuck, so if you can't find a vein right away, it's OK. My veins are hard to find." "No, I see it, it's right there," said the tech. I looked. Sure enough I saw a little glint of blue in the fossa! "Your veins are great," she said. "Great veins"?!? I have NEVER had "great veins"!!! But losing some of the thick fat in my arms.... Now I have great veins. WHO KNEW.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I will definately take into consideration everyone's mutal agreement on this being a good idea. I did have a small revelation over the weekend. I got to enjoy the complany of good friends and family. A big pool party at my aunt's place with all the father's: grandfather, dad, and brother-in-law. It was a great time and I felt great. I participated in the pool volley ball and had a great time and kept up with everyone's pace. I even got picked first for grandpa's team. Feeling better, and looking better. Oh and big nsv, I got into a size 18 pair of shorts I just dug up from the button of the drawer and decided to try on over the weekend. Thanks again!

I had a nsv at the movie theatre today. I was able to cross my legs comfortably in my seat! -
I bought a dress off the rack at size L. It's not tight at all. My son is able to wrap his arms completely around me for a hug.

Even with my 130 + pounds of weight-loss, I weigh more than my younger sibling. I get frustrated by scale numbers some days tbh. Even though I workout and stay very active and have maintained a pretty good diet focusing more on toning and gaining muscles still I get secretly bummed. Since surgery, I have overhauled my lifestyle. Last weekend my sister was showing me some clothes she bought and just for fun I started trying them on. To my surprise everything was big on me. I was secretly ecstatic. Because I’m gaining muscles and losing inches so that means my workouts showing results. I want to be as fit as I possibly can be. I do eat more carbs like whole grains, Brown rice and quinoa now but I keep away from simple carbs because of my fitness goals. Moral of story the numbers on scale is not everything.

Great NSV CG! -
I went with my mom and sister to a musical tonight and the parking garage elevator was packed after the show. So I decided to take the stairs 6 flights up instead with my mom. Last year, before surgery, we did the same thing and she left me puffing on the stairs a full flight behind her. THIS time, I was a full flight ahead of her, with her puffing behind me. I tell ya, that felt awesome- even though she's 65 with arthritis cancer and Chrohn's disease and premature senility. Lol. (My mom wanted me to add this. ... She's still really fit for 65 though!
