Yes, hang in there I am in week three and I can think of all kinds of things to eat but I won't I love cheetos. I have found that popsicles and pudding and yogurt are my best friends when I have those sweet fits and the cheesy fits. So, just talk yourself thru it and find another out and a healthier craving.

I didn't have a purée stage. As far as I can tell there is nothing magic about purée other than its a way to get more flavor and nutrition in with a semi-liquid/soft texture. If you like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, Protein shakes, etc. then I don't see any reason to force yourself to eat something you don't like. -
Finally in the post op side!

@@drew's mom congrats! I have some pain on my left side too. Probably just bruised from surgery. Keep on sipping and try soup and yogurt! Popsicles are good too! Good luck ! -
I was 6/25 and I am in the slow loser club but at least it is coming off. Lost 9 pounds since surgery. I had the dreaded week three stall. Transitioned from liquids to soft solids today. Yum! Yogurt and lunch meat and Beans were all yummy. Pain is still present in my left side but tolerable with twice a day Tylenol. Today I was really tired but I had been feeling pretty good. So far so good on this wonderful journey Artymama how has your pain and intake gone?

Hey June 25 Sleevers

I was sleeved june 27th. I am down 32lbs. I didn't have any pain at all a little discomfort getting used to how my new stomach worked. I am sure everyone has gone through the miserable week 1 phobias lol I know I was second guessing everything I freaked out with the why did I do this it was hard cooking for my 3 kids because it made me want to eat. I even went as far as licking a chip lol but I am 3 weeks out and feeling much better about my decisions. My diet is much different from most of yours. I was all liquid for 14th days now I am pureed for 2 weeks then soft/mushy for 3 weeks then transition to "normal" foods around the 8th-9th week. I to have the pain on the left and it is due to an anchor stitch I was told it dissolves by the 4th weekish. And as far as protein and fluids I have the whey protein powder and 1 scoop is 30g of protein so I have 1 protein shake for breakfast and make sure I have 2 yoplait yogurts that are 15g each that's how I get my 60g and the fluids I just drink like a mad woman as much as I can. excited to watch us all shrink on our journeys back to life! -
I've got a grocery list started. My dietician recommends crystal light, propel, calorie free or sugar free drinks, broth Soups, and sugar free popsicles. These are "free" foods that you can have in unlimited amounts. Other foods like gatorade, reg. Jello, popsicles, light yogurt, or Protein shakes I can have in limited amounts because of the sugar. I'm not real excited about doing this, but the nurse expained to me that the longer you can do this diet, the better it will be for your surgery. Your liver will get smaller and be out of the way for the laproscopic surgery. I'm going to try my best! I'm going to the grocery store tonight.

I have already advanced to soft foods. I am pretty much eating solids, just chewing them up really well. I start my day out with a protein shake or bar (if the bar I chew chew chew!), I can have things like chicken salad and crackers for lunch and dinner. I still eat soup, chili, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. I have added salmon, string cheese, mashed potatoes, refried beans (sometimes I eat the insides of a bean and cheese burrito). I have not allowed myself to try much meat yet, no beef at all, and no raw veggies still. Occasionally I will throw a handfull of berries in my smoothies. I have not been sick once since my surgery, no throwing up at all. My sleeve seems to be handling the solids very well.

I went into the hospital at 7:30am, had my surgery at 9:30am, was in my room by 1:30pm, and went home the following evening at 8pm. They won't let you leave until you are drinking Clear liquids with no problem, peeing, and walking. Your pain level must be managed - I was fine regarding the pain but my room mate was a drama queen who moaned, cried, and screamed a lot. It was very clear that it was an attention-getting ploy because when her doctor told her he couldn't release her due to the amount of pain she was in, she instantly changed her tune and made a miraculous recovery! Lol After the fourth day I didn't need pain meds during the day, and after 7 days I stopped taking them at night too. Gas pain (from the air they put in you during the surgery) can be uncomfortable for a few days but walking around relieves it. Once home, I was on full liquids (smooth yogurt, cream Soups, sf pudding, Protein shakes). At my one week follow-up I was cleared to drive (they just want to make sure you're off the narcotics) and they gave the okay to go to pureed food. At two weeks I went to soft, mushy foods (anything that mashes easily with a fork). They will very clearly and in much detail let you know exactly what you can and can't do, and what you can and can't have, and why. And you have access to nurses, dieticians, and a surgeon 24/7 by phone (or in person if necessary). They are very thorough. Their goal is your absolute recovery and success. :-)

You can buy acidophilous (the active ingredient in yogurt) in pill form in the vitamin section of any drug store. Take a few of those every day and you won't need the yogurt. It works for me!
-
Funny! It's my baby picture that my dad took! Update... I had relations a few days ago and so far so good. Still, I am going to stock up on the acidophilous pills (can't stand the taste of yogurt. :sick )
-
Megan... no I wasn't on antibiotics. Godo point on the yogurt. My doctor prescribed me a regimen for my second outbreak but I decided to wait and see if my period would cure it. So far so good. I might have "relations" later this week and see what happens. Alexandra, it's the pits, isn't it!! Your statement about disrupting the hormones got me thinking. I hadn't had yeast infections for years until last year I started a new birth control, Yasmin. I am now getting a yeast infection once every 5 months. Then after surgerym, as mentioned above, I got 2 in two weeks. I am going to investigate this with my GP next time I see him.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Wanted: Lap band buddy/mentor..surgery is 4/30!

Wow - sorry to hear that is has been a rocky road the past few days for you. I hope the increased heart rate, and tingling went away. That is scary especially when you are home alone. I have to say, I have not been hungry at all. I actually do not want to think of food. Dr gave me a liquid diet or Protein drinks, yogurt, creamy Soup and cottage cheese. I told him today that I could not even gag down the Protein Drink. He said stick to the other items. I just feel soooo exhausted. The most I have eaten in a day this week is 3 oz of yogurt, maybe 3 oz of cottage cheese and 4oz of soup, at the most. I don't want anymore either. I have no energy at all. Not good! I have to go back to work tomorrow and have 2 little kids. Good luck - hope you are feeling a little stronger too. -
Oh wow your four weeks out? Are you on the mushy food phase? I have been on the liquid diet for two weeks before surgery and I have been so emotionally hungry! Thanks for the kind words Yes, I'm on limited soft foods: cottage cheese, refried Beans, mushed veggies, oatmeal/cream of wheat, greek yogurt. I get to go to the next phase in 10 days. I was on a 2 week pre-packaged food diet pre-op. Don't worry, your hunger will disappear after surgery; at least, MINE did. Now I eat because I HAVE to...or because I WANT to.

Should I be measuring intake during full fluid stage? I can "drink" a whole can of Campbell low fat soup made with water and blended in magic bullet. It does take me about 20 minutes to drink it all, but get worried when people say they can only take in half a cup. Should limit my soups and yogurts?

Stomach pains when introducing purée diet
E G posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Sorry in advance for the TMI I am 10 days post op and I visited my dietician yesterday. She said since I was eating yogurt and pudding and keeping it down, I can slowly introduce purée into my diet. Yesterday ate puréed chicken and mashed potatoes (about 3 spoons of each). I seemed to be fine yesterday (I ate around 5 pm). However, I woke up at 4 in the morning and it felt as if my esophagus was burning and I had a weird taste in my mouth (close to vomit). I woke up in the morning and my stomach has been in knots and I feel cramps. Throughout the day it went away. I have been drinking a lot of water but I’m not 100%. I didn’t eat a thing except hot chicken broth and water. I’m not even hungry. Has anybody ever had this problem? I see the doc on Tuesday. How long did it take you (if any amount of days) to adjust to the purée diet? Pudding and yogurt I never had a problem with during the liquid stage. -
i don't even have a DR picked out yet and i am freaking out about eating before/after surgery...i eat a cup of yogurt and think, "after surgery i will only be able to eat half of this" or i take a glorious swig of my coke and think "after surgery i can't even have this anymore"...i know i have got to STOP this thinking...my obsession with food is part of what got me to this point...so when i start to think of all that i am going to miss i remind myself of all that i am going to welcome into my life...and that helps me get out of my own head

What are your favorites in the Pureed Phase?

Try adding a wedge of laughing cow flavored cheese wedges to your eggs when you cook them. I also enjoy turkey lunch meat and greek yogurt with fruit. -
I don't want to eat chemicals...

I too was mostly eating clean. I was off artificial sweetners for several years. But for all the healthy food, my portion sizes of the delicious food made me super obese. So, clean eating can help in a lot of the micro elements of our body, and long term of the many cancers avoided, but I was creating a un-healthy monster with high triglicidates, diabetic, border-line cholesterol. You will have to bite the bullet for about 3 months, maybe more. I drink 2 Protein shakes with artificial sweetner, because my healthy one with seeds, spinach, yogurt, fruit, etc was way way too many calories. I am about 2 months out. I probably drink 1 Crystal light per week and my 2 daily shakes. The rest of the time I am eating healthy and clean. I can buy organic meat and when my portion size is greater than 2 oz, I can start to eliminate the Protein Shakes. If you want to eat a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese, you may be able to eat clean sooner. -
Day 6 post-op, and I wouldn't believe I'm banded had I not seen the x-ray

Thanks LeighaMason - tried the Greek yogurt today - love it! It kept me full all morning. I will definitely be recommending it to others as well! -
I didn't have to do liquids but I had to do a 2 week high protein, low carb diet they gave me. I have been sore but the pain from surgery has not been as bad as the gas. I was on full liquids until yesterday, then I started mushies. Yesterday I ate yogurt and some pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. I have no nausea but I have been taking it very slow with my eating. Feel free to contact me anytime and I wish you the best of luck.

Uh.. So I admit, I've been watching for that crossover to the under-300# realm: Weight at start (mid-April): 345 Weight going into surgery (30 Jun): 306 Weight @ 1 day: 310 Weight @ 2 days: 304 (dropping about 0.5# every couple hours) Weight @ 3 days: 301 (just measured), 299.8 (lunch) I seem to be losing roughly 2-3# per DAY. At this rate, I'll cross the 300# mark by the time I finish Breakfast. [### EDIT: I went back to sleep, so the best I can say is that I crossed it before lunch...###] This is not an exaggeration: I dropped half a pound yesterday over the course of *consuming* 16oz of Water. Obviously I had 4# of Fluid pumped into me at surgery. I've obviously lost that.. but I didn't expect initial weight loss in the 3#/day range. Honestly, I feel fine overall.. just hungry, not weak. I'm able to consume (water, yogurt, soup .. overall about 300 calories, with plenty of Vitamin supplementation) without difficulty, as long as I don't gulp things down. This, too, seems normal. Am I just lucky, or is this rate of weight loss actually not unusual? I cannot account for it on a simple calories in/calories out model -- it's as if the surgery has told my body to shed a lot of fat up front. I suppose it could be extra energy requirements during healing, but still -- a factor of 3x seems extraordinary. No complaints, of course. I just haven't seen this magnitude of response reported here before.

One thing you need to remember as well is to take time for your meal. I know what the pace is like in the ER, you won't be able to gobble your food down and get back to work. You have to take some time for yourself. It took me some time to get used to this, but when i eat, i take a bite, then put the fork down and chew. Each bite i do that. Its now a habit for me, it makes you slow down. My pureed stage, i had scrambled eggs, lots of yogurt(low carb, some have a lot of sugar), refried beans, which after 4 weeks of liquids was great, once i handled that ok, i had tuna fish, etc. Just because its called the pureed stage doesnt mean it has to be pureed. ohh, cottage cheese was on that list, but the only thing i like to do with cottage cheese is scrape it into the trash. Best of luck to you. -
Gaining the weight BACK after doing everything to get ready and now losing the surgery because my weight went up instead of going down

It might be worth charting every bit you put in your mouth for a week. I know I have been a victim of "Eating Amnesia" in the past. It can really railroad you.

These days I am being very consious about my protein intake. For breakfast my options are Kashi GoLean cereal, eggs with hot sauce, or a protein shake.

I eat every three hours like clockwork. Snacks are cheese, yogurt, nuts, or Protein To Go drink.

Lunch is either a protein shake or soup with atleast 15 grams of protein and not over 300 calories.

Dinner is meat and veggies.

I don't know where I read this, I'll have to find my book, but for every gram of carbs you take in, you will hold four grams of fluid to aid in it's digestion. When you reduce your carbs you lower water weight and force your body to start using the Glycogen stored in your liver causing more weight loss.

So I would suggest really looking at your carb intake and promoting more protein as it feeds the muscle.

-
Haven't been sleeved yet but hoping this is still ok when I am as its soo good. I scoop of Protein powder (vanilla tastes best) 3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk 3 or 4 ice cubes Small banana Scoop of yogurt of choice Cup of kale Cup of spinach 1/4 frozen blueberries Something to sweeten if you want i use organic blue agave syrup). May need to add a bit more liquid at times I use Water if it needs more. It makes quite a bit I usually give a cup to both my son and fiancé. I'm sure ill have to make it WAYY smaller once sleeved.
