  1. hi, my name is trina and i was just viewing some pics and started writting lines to people and hopefully some will respond back with some encouragement. i was banded june 5 08 and is feeling a little down. started at 367 and is currently back up to 343. gained about 6lbs. hope ur doing well and god bless. feel free to join my empty friends list any time! lol

  2. I can't believe we were late today! Such bad bandsters we are. It was really fun to see you...you made me crack up during that whole class! When I got back to work, I had FOOD! I don't think it was the perfect choice, but it went down good and I feel pretty full. I ate about half of a Weight Watchers meal...turkey and about a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. Carbs...I know, but it was all that was available. I wouldn't say that I'm totally FULL, but I'm not starving like I was and I think I'm satisfied enough to make it to dinner! I'm getting my fill on Tuesday, September 2! WOO HOO! I'm really looking forward to that! When's your next appointment?

  3. I was in a 22W. I shopped at Lane Bryant for all my clothes. Now I am in a 18. I can go into any store that has size 18, and i'm loving it. I go into my favorite store now "New York & Company." I want to get to a size 14 and just maintain my weight.

  4. No Degas for me - just peppermint tea and loads of walking. Walking, even now, helps with the gas build up after I eat. And man, is there a LOT of gas! LOL!

I'm glad the pre-op appt went well - I think you've been a champ on your diet, you're doing so well! Despite not losing much weight at the mo, I'm still really positive that this the change we've been looking for. And if your dr's right, then you and I are definitely on the road to weight loss city!

And yeah, work has quite good kitchen facilities, but because I start work early and finish late, I don't often feel motivated to make something to bring in. But today I walked to the shops about 20 mins away and got some prawns in coconut curry. Luckily I still tolerate spicy foods really well, so they were nice. I'll keep going there I think. Plus it forces me out of the office and into some exercise.

Damn I wish you were closer to me! We could chat about this stuff in person!

  5. That is great about the clothes, not about the work or the crotch ;) I have a selection of work clothes that will get me through quite a few kilos of my loss which is great! :)

Canteen food tends to be like that, I hope you can bring in your own or have somewhere near you that has healthier options for those days you can't be bothered making your lunch! ;) Do you have an area you can heat up your own food??

I will definitely be taking the 2 weeks!! And no it isn't long now!! Had my preop with the surgeon today! Just a formality, only 15minutes. He did say that there appears to be a correlation between those who lose weight well on the preop doing well after the surgery :) Preop Nurse Friday! Did you use Degas after your surgery??

  6. Hey lady welcome to the forum! Your family definitely has my prayers and I wish you much success on your weight loss journey

  7. Hi maddiegirl, I will be having surgery with Dr. Park hopefully July or August. I would really like to know what your pre-op diet was and how much weight you had to lose. If you don't mind sharing i would truly appreciated.

    Latrice

  8. Hi I ran across your post and am excited to read you lost 70lbs so far. That is great. what would you say has really helped in your weight loss.

  9. Hey girl. How are you doing? I haven't talked to you in a while. How's the weight loss going?

  10. How was your surgury in Mexico, was it anything different for men. How was the facilities? When can you start liftring weights. I have so many questions.

  11. Hello everyone! I had my lap band surgery (Realize Band) on January 4th of 2008. So far, I've lost 30 pounds and would love to lose another 35, but will be happy with 20. At this point I'm nearly 6 months out and have lost some momentum and motivation. I'm trying to remedy that by forming a partnership with a young woman whom I met in my pre-op classes. She and I had surgery on the same day and were in recovery together. We keep in touch by email and are going to meet in person tomorrow (first time we've seen each other since our post-op class) and I'm excited about that.

It 's taken me a long time to feel restriction and so far I've had five fills and have 7.5cc's in my 9cc band. I go for another fill next week, which will probably put me at 8cc's. I'm so hoping to find my "sweet spot" if there is such a thing. I've been through a lot of ups & downs in the last few months, but overall am very happy that I had the surgery and have had no complications or side effects (other than losing weight & that's a good thing).

I really can use all of the encouragement, suggestions and moral support that's available through this site. I'll be happy to keep in touch with any of you who want & need encouragement too. I've come so far, I can't give up now.

  12. Hi,

I am soooo glad to have found another Dr. Sarker patient. Please, let's keep in touch! I am finished with all the pre-ops except the 6 month supervised diet. How did you fulfill that requirement? Weight watchers?

One of my concerns about Loyola is that they will not have the post-op support that I think is really, really important. Dr. Sarker told me that after she does the surgery, it is up the patient to decide when to return and get fills. I attended the monthly support group meeting in May and would you believe that NO ONE showed up? Not even the psychiatrist who is the leader of the group! It was supposed to start at 6:30pm. At 6:25pm, I called her cell phone and told her that no one else was there besides me. She goes 'Oh, um, oh, ummm, well, yea, I'll be there in 5 minutes.' After 15 minutes I called her back and said 'I'm going home now.' I didn't want to talk to her anyways. I want to speak with people who are living with the lap band. She said 'Well, maybe next month more people will come.' I told her I wasn't going to come next month on the off-chance that someone else would be there. I work in Elk Grove Village and live in Villa Park so it is a little inconvenient to be driving to the Maywood campus.

I made a contact with a woman who lives in Wheaton who has had a lap band for 5 years. She's been real supportive and telling me how it really is to live with the lap band. She's lost 100 pounds but has been stalled for a little while in loosing more. She had her surgery done at Loyola also but by Dr. Sayani (sp?) who is no longer there.

I have to get ready for work now but I would love to write you again and keep in touch and compare notes on our Loyola experiences. Definitely let me know how your experience has been with Dr. Sarker's office and getting the insurance information all pulled together and sent off.

Thanks so much for contact me. Take care.

    Marie Nixon

  13. Thank you soooooo much for your reply that is exactly what i needed to hear. I needed to know the facts from someone who has had the band. The dietitions and Doctors can tell you all they want but its from the real patients that I find so much more helpful so thankyou. Please keep me posted on your weight loss Im really interested on how you are going.

Feel free to make comments on my blog beenabeena.blogspot.com(as you know)

There are no comments made yet on my blog so i would love to get some feedback.

    Have a good night

    Cheers

    Beena

  15. I go for a fill on Mondy, the 23rd and am hoping that will help kick start the weight loss again, i've been struggling big time lately and really need to get back on the wagon. I also need to start to slow down when I eat, I definitely eat too much. Congrats on the weight 21# loss in a month. I have lost 17# since my surgery 7 weeks ago.

  16. Hi! my name is toni-lisa and i live in the philadelphia area. I was a dancer MANY years ago and so i know what it feels like to be in an athletic level of fitness. But that seems like a far away dream now

since i am now at my highest weight EVER! HATING IT !!!!!!!!!!

huff and puff just walking across a room. stay pretty reclusive.

most of my professional pursuits don't require that I interact with the public all that much. I am an author\ children's photographer \ painter\ custom beaded jeweler. In the mid-90's I was also a speaker and performer ... which i adored !!!!! there is no more magical feeling (for me) than having an audience in the palm of my hand. I love it when they laugh. I love it when they cry. I truly have a Cinderella story which touches people deeply. VERY briefly: I was SEVERELY clinically depressed and suicidal for 20 years. I always had enough pills to end my life. After every medical option had been tried and re-tried .....

someone suggested Jesus. As a Jewish woman ....i didn't think that was too swell a solution and i knew that my family's reactin would be one of horror. But I had nothing to lose at that point and so I tried Jesus. Perhaps needless to say .... over the course of 2 years He healed me and I have not had a clinical depression since 1980.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!!!! My first book is about the experience of my healing and the things that the LORD taught me duruing my burgeoning journey. I'm writing a novel now and when it is finished I know that I will want to get back on the road and talk about the content of this new book. But I reallly can't at my present weight. I don't have the stamina or interest or initiative. I am scheduled for a Lap Band on July 28th although i have not been approved yet. (My Dr. assures me that approval will not be a problem because of the medical issues i have due to the excess weight.) I'm leary. I'm a little scared. I'm wanting health and fitness soooooo much but it feels a little out of reach today..... and yesterday ..... and the day before. I was seriously considering by-pass until about 3 days ago. Long story. But now I am pretty settled on lap band. Unless anyone of you can give me a good reason why by-pass would be a fine and dandy option.

I have a mother with Altzheimers and my only sibling has attempted suicide 3 times in the past 2 years. (He too suffers from clinical depression.) So I have a full plate and a lot of responsibilities .......

but i feel that i must proceed with this invaluable tool for weight loss

in order to get my life back. I MISS ME !!!!!!!!!

  17. Hey there! I wasn't ignoring, I swear! I just didn't know i had a message:P So how are things going now?? Losing again after your fill?? I lost weight only while on the liquid diet and honestly haven't lost anything for like 9wks! I'm trying to be good--yes, I can eat most things too, in moderation anyway. I'm really anxious to start losing again though! I've been busting my keester at the gym and I stay within like 2lbs of what I was 2wks after surgery... Ugh. I've had two fills although my fill dr. most likely didn't get it in correctly the first time. Anyway, I've got another one coming up in a couple weeks here, so I'm anxious to start losing again!! So anyway, I'm rambling, but lemme know how things are going for you! ;)

  18. Oh tell my more about your band to sleeve experince.I went to your mexico post thingy. (very informitive.) I really need to know more about this sleeve thing. It seems brilliant to me.

I have loved my band but I'm sick of adusting it all the time. and I can feel it inside me especaily my port I don't like it.

What happens if you get the stomach flu with this sleeve?

what can you eat? how much education do they give you?

So glad I finally figured out how to talk to you. I have enjoyed your comments for years.Gees I'm skattered today. I got excited!

Let me tell you alittle about me. I'm 41 now, I got baned in 2005.

it worked pretty good at first then it just quite working. All they could tell me was to mix up my excersice routine. Eat more protine drink more water. I did all of that and more, and still not a thing happened I stayed the same number for over a year. :glare: They didn't do any test didn't offer any diet pills( which I have never taken I just learned about them the other day from a thread I read.) Nothing they just fill me or unfill me. :crying:In the 2nd year I had 15 adjustments. I have friends who have had one fill. It seems a little much to me but I was going with there experience. (which isn't much I have decided) They just have to many people to deal with now.

I haven't seen the Dr in three years.:cursing: Ok I'm done venting.

Anyways in septmber I was in a car wreck and broke my neck in four places and my back in two. The breaks are healed but the soft tissue damage is still a problem. It still affects my abillity to exercsie. I have gained back 30lbs of my 70lbs lost. My band is so tight right now it gages me so me times. Well that's my story. I look foward to hearing from you.

Thanks again for all you do for us.

    Amy C.

  19. Sorry to take so long to respond. I have been on vacation until yesterday. The pain has subsided thank you. I have been at the same weight for the last 10 days, but I have gone two pant sizes. I am in a comfortable 16...yeah! I am on my way to the hospital to see a friend of mine that is having gastric bypass today. I hope you are well. It feels good when other people notice your weight loss. We should all throw out the scales until we get where we need to be....but I can't I am addicted. Take care-Donita

  23. My computer has been down so just got it up and running this morning. I felt lost not being able to get on this site and see how everyones doing. 24. I havent been on this website for a long time, I got my band last June 12, so its been a few days over a year. I am one of the failures, I have gained 8 lbs this year, I have just given up and feel like I was just grasping for a last ditch effort to lose this weight. I am 295 and I am only 5'2''

I have gotten "skinny" 3 times in my life (53 years old) and each time slowly gained it back, I read all there was about the lap band but I realise now that I never really heard what people were telling me about it just being a tool and I had to follow certain rules, I was really counting on this thing to do it for me. I have what I consider to be a major and chronic sugar addiction, never have I ever been able to eat small portions when it comes to sweets, it is major binge or abstain.

I have had a very difficult time with getting the proper fill and I still dont know if it is right. I have the vg band which takes up to 10 cc's, I have had

7 or 8 fills and am now up to 7.2. I do have restriction but I definetly do not have to chew my food untill it is liquid like I read in one of your articles. I do have to eat slower but usually just in the begining of a meal, after I take 4 to 5 bites the food usually just kind of sits there and will not allow me to have any more bites for about 5 minuets then I can feel the food go through my band and I can then eat with out that happening to much again unless I eat to fast. I PB occationally but I know that is because I am eating to fast or two big of bites. I have read a few of your articles and have really liked what you have to say. I would love to hear anything anyone has to say because I have basicly given but would love to have faith in this fight again.

  25. hello!!! i am trying to update my weight thing and have no idea how to do it. hope all is well with you. call me i havent heard from you in two days!! :-)
