Tickers let you mark your BMI, body fat, weight and countdown to surgery. They show your starting value, where you currently are and your goal value. Trackers are for recording your current body measurements. You get to customize them by choosing what they look like. We encourage you to make your tickers and trackers public, so that they are displayed when you post in the forums. That helps you stay and inspires your fellow bandsters. If you’re a little shy, you can make your ticker private so that only you see it. ASMBS: National Society’s Opinion on Plication You may already know that the sleeve plication, or laparoscopic greater curvature plication, is a pretty new procedure. That’s why you may have a little more trouble finding a surgeon in the U.S. or getting your insurance to cover it. That doesn’t make it a bad procedure, though. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, or ASMBS, states that more scientific data is needed before it can make recommendations about the procedure. The FDA is very cautious about approving any health claims. Before any drug or medical device goes on the market, the FDA conducts clinical trials to make sure that its claims are true. In the case of sleeve plication, the technique is so new that not much scientific evidence is available. So far, it looks like sleeve plication is comparable to the vertical sleeve, and your stomach tissue is not removed. In the article, ASMBS admits that it can’t make official patient recommendations because the technique is too new, but that gastric plication is worth investigating! What do you think? If you’re considering gastric plication, do you wish there were official national recommendations? Coming Soon: Member Spotlights! We introduced them in the previous newsletter, and they’re coming soon…Keep your eyes peeled for member spotlights! Roundup of the Previous Bandster Challenge: Try a New Food! In the last newsletter, we suggested trying a new food or recipe that was healthy and a good fit for your meal plan. In the last newsletter, we suggested trying a new food or recipe that was healthy and a good fit for your meal plan. You can check out member contributions in the Challenge Forum. How did you do? Let everyone know about your new food or recipe in the forum! Don’t forget that you can always go back to try the old member challenges and post your experience. Going public is a great way to motivate yourself, and other members can learn from your experiences! The New Challenge: Share Your NSV! Okay, first of all, what does NSV mean? It’s short for a Non scale Victory, and it’s just what it sounds like. It’s a victory related to your lap-band journey but not related to the number on the scale. We all have disappointing weigh-ins at some point, but it’s not all about the weight. The journey is about getting healthy, loving life and having new, positive experiences. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the number on the scale that we forget to celebrate the other victories that are just as important. This Newsletter’s challenge is to recognize a new NSV and write about it in the Challenge Forum. An NSV can be anything that makes you realize what positive steps you’ve taken for yourself. Some possible NSV’s that you recognize might be: Going to a baseball game and fitting into the seat. Buying your new summer swimsuit in a regular store. Keeping your cool while you eat a meal with your hypercritical mother-in-law. Don’t be shy about sharing your NSV on the Challenge Forum. You can help other Sleeve Plication members learn to recognize their own NSVs and take pride in them! So that’s about it for this week’s newsletter, but there’s never a dull moment at SleevePlicationTalk.com! Come by and post often, and be sure to share your opinions, advice and feedback. See you on the boards! Sincerely, Alex ==============================================================If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, you may unsubscribe by going to your Control Panel and clicking on the Newsletters tab, or clicking on the following link: http://www.sleevepli...&tab=newsletter

  5. So I went to Mexico last week for 7 days. Exactly 10 months prior to that, I sat on the same beach in the same chair and emailed with my surgeon's office to make sure my paperwork was getting submitted before they closed that day at noon. It did get submitted and I was approved the following Monday. It was a couple more months before I had the surgery but returning to the same spot at around 115 pounds lighter was very significant. Here are the things I found different: - Easier to get up off those dang low beach chairs - Allowed myself to be photographed (which I never allowed before) & even bought one that one of the photographers took - Able to fit more than comfortably in the airplane seats - Able to walk down the plane aisle without my hips bumping in to the seats and people - Didn't panic when I got on the van and realized there was only 1 small seat left - Didn't sweat constantly (in fact I was annoyingly cold -- not so much an NSV) - Able to get in 10,000 steps several days and happy to walk on the beach - Customs officer looked at my passport pic and said "Congrats!" - Came back same weight as day I left I know there are more, but those are the ones that stand out. I returned from my trip and started my new job the next day. (Happy to be gainfully employed again after 2 months without work.) It was strange realizing that these folks had no idea what I looked like before (except the girl who took copy of my drivers license for my personnel file). This office is OLD and actually has stairs inside the office and I did not fear going up and down those stairs all week. (I would have been terrified before that I would be out of breath when I got to the top.) Still not 100% sure about the job but everyone was really nice and hopefully it will all work out. Now back to reality after 10 days away from home (I will be working from home and first few days of new job training where in a different city). I managed to maintain my weight in Mexico but not so much over the last few days at the new job - too much eating out and while I did limit the amount, I wasn't able to make the best choices. Looking forward to getting back to my normal life.... Had some struggles over these days but overall, I have not one regret about this surgery and am excited to see what else it brings and what life will be like on that same beach after I am able to have plastics!
  6. So at the start of my journey a year ago I weighed 309 lbs. At the day of surgery I was 251 and today I'm down to 170.2. Yes I am an addict to my scale. I mean so damn bad that the battery died and I swear I went into convulsions. It's hard to believe that this is my body and I do take pics almost everyday so it will register in my head that yes I am thinner and not the 300lb blob that I still see myself as. I'm not to comfortable in my saggy skin just yet but hey heres what I look like in my first tank top since I had surgery. My hard work is starting to pay off I would think. If you are undecided still, do it and you will not regret anything at all. My hubby has even decided to have the surgery after he was against it
  7. Lol, yeah it is a NSV! You are amazing.

    Mini-Goal Met!

Yep... what they said! You look great! Ful of confidence and happy! Fab NSV =]

    Mini-Goal Met!

You look fabulous! I know that we still need to continue to lose and work on losing, but we also need to enjoy where we are right now. You tucked in your shirt and wore a belt, and you looked great! That is an awesome NSV. There is no need to worry about a little extra up front. Think of how far you came and Celebrate that success! I don't mean to suggest you aren't celebrating your success. I just think we can all use the reminder (I know I can) to be happy with what we've accomplished and not always focus on what still needs work when we are out socializing.

  12. Just had to share my great NSV this weekend with you guys.....went to a wedding this weekend. First of all, usually hate these types of social events since you need to "dress up", but not this time! Got a new outfit that not only looked great, but it was comfortable too....hubby told me I looked great several times:biggrin1: . Then to top things off....I danced all night long and had a blast. I have not danced at a social event for years, but last night I "cut a rug", my friends. Felt confident, felt good and had fun....life is good!!!!

  16. I finally fit into my leather jacket (it's been about 5 years) and my very favorite pair of Jeans~ both in the same week. I finally feel "pretty" and am enjoying putting on makeup, picking out my clothes and am no longer just throwing something on and running out the door.

    Weekly Check In

To keep everyone motivated as we begin our new journeys, I thought we could keep up with everyone's stats and other important information weekly. For me my weekly weigh in will be on Monday. Some ideas I thought of were: SW/CW/GW Measurements What stage of diet are you on now? What are you eating NSV New recipes that your are learning with your diet stage I thought these might be fun to get to know about everyone. If anyone is interested in a Facebook group that could work too. If anyone else can think of any others lets add them to the list. Thanks

    a new NSV

So I went to a work luncheon today and sat in a tight corner at the table that 65 lbs. ago, I’d have never been able to fit into. My first reaction when I saw where I was likely headed was oh uh…too tight…sit somewhere else…but then I realized it would probably be OK and it was. I know I’m still overweight and not nearly at goal yet, but these little ‘normalcies’ that so many people take for granted are so uplifting for me and help me to keep my eye on the prize.

    a new NSV

Yay! Keep up the good work. NSVs are the bomb!
