  1. Our bodies tend to retain fluids when rapid weight loss occurs, and can hang on to it for a few weeks until it knows everything is ok, and it can resume with the weight loss. Any IV's can also add to the fluid retention you're currently experiencing, which makes it easy to gain for a week or so, but its just water/fluids, and not fat, which is what you really want to lose. You can still be burning away the fat during this phase despite the scale saying otherwise. Also as you go further on your weight loss journey, you'll gain more muscle mass from working out more, and muscle is roughly 1.5x the weight of fat. So if you're doing significantly more walking and/or lifting weights, that will offset the scale losses, but you're becoming much healthier in the process.

    It's good to know everything stayed together!! LOL I ate some jello today and it still sat weird but not as bad as before. My stomach did the angry cartwheels thing it has taken to doing and then settled down. So I consider that a win! I get severe nausea from anesthesia for about 2-3 days afterwards, so I can empathize. It has finally abated for the most part unless I try to drink something thick.

    Movement and liquid diet ideas

    I made soup recipes for the family and just strained my portion of it into 3oz containers. I was allowed milk, bean soup, and yogurt during the full liquid, so I made that my main staples. I honestly did not exercise for the first month, and started walking after 5 weeks.
  4. I ate some cucumbers about 6 weeks in, couldn't manage to eat much because my body was reacting to the new texture lol

    Mine started today. I think I overdid it with the food funerals last week, and now I feel like I'm starving, haha. I've heard the first 3-4 days are the worst, so hopefully you're over that hurdle now! I can't wait until I am.

    Starting week three of my preop diet and one week out from surgery. Diet definitely did get easier once in it and very closely staying on it. Traveling the last few days which has been a little challenging but not too bad. I’ve definitely got some nerves. I wake up about 5 AM some mornings and the brain just takes over a little. Hope things keep progressing for everyone!

    Currently at the end of Day 4 pre-op liquid diet. First 3 days were hell but today was more manageable. It seems to be getting easier for me. Today we celebrated my daughter’s Birthday & I packed myself a shake & some SF Applesauce to take with me so I wouldn’t eat anything at the restaurant or Arcade. I’m definitely loving all the weight I’m losing before surgery lol. Are you getting more excited everyday that passes by? I know I am!
  8. I was told if I had to have ibuprofen , just take it once in a while and take a Prilosec before taking it. I'm 5 months out from gastric sleeve and have taken it about 3 times already with no problem. I also have some pains that Tylenol just won't help.

    My thoughts, like @GreenTealael, was fluid retention from any IVs you were given. Plus your body just may have held on to everything while fighting the sepsis - it’s a terrible thing if they can’t get on top of it. Hope you are recovering well & yes stay off the scales for a few days or week or so.

    I would say it’s a combination of fluid retention from the Ringer’s Lactate or Saline if you received an I.V, any meds you were given and the stress from illness itself. I know it’s easier said than done but try to hold off weighing yourself for a while. 10 weeks post op is still fairly early on and you have many more months of progress to look forward to.   11. Hi I got my sleeve surgery on August 22nd .. I've lost about 50 pounds but I was in the hospital a few days with sepsis and now I just got on the scale and gained like 8 pounds? I've barley eating so I'm confused any help ? Start weight 302 Surgery weight 288 Monday 251 today 260..

    I am 8 days post-op, to be honest, I don't know. For myself most of the time I have not felt hungry at all, but I have had two days where I felt hungry similar to before the surgery. I think that we are going to go through feeling hungry and not feeling hungry plus many other changes over the next month, especially in the 2-week post-op diet phase. I think things will fluctuate a lot as we get to add foods to our diets during this healing period. I read that it takes 12 weeks for our stomachs to heal completely. I have an appointment on the 8th and I am going to ask for sure when the fully healed process is done.
  13. I’m 2.5 months post op from DS SADI/SIPS. I’m still on soft foods.. down 45 lbs since surgery. I am no longer diabetic! My A1C was 9 before surgery and this weeks labs my A1C was 5.3 I hope everyone is doing well on their journey!!

    I am 3 days post op from gastric bypass. I have been hitting my water goals and very close to my protein. Some nausea here and there but no vomiting! I’m concerned because I feel very hungry today. Is this normal??
  15. I didn't have a 3-week stall but I did gain around 10 lbs due to IVs right after surgery, and it took awhile for that to come off. My weight loss pattern is/was like steps, my body likes to hold on to the weight, then drops, hold on to the weight, then drops.

    Weight loss before surgery

    I just started the process. I still have tests to finish. Baritastic is an app they suggested for me to use, use it and track everything. As I said I just started the journey 4 weeks ago. I've lost 27 pounds just by keeping track. My first dietician visit is in a few days. Track everything. You will be surprised on how much it helps. You can do it.
  17. I just returned my first post-op vacay. I was gone for a week to two different areas. The first place was a wilderness area on the Atlantic ocean, and then I visited an historic city for a few days.

    On my most active day, I was able to hike 11 miles, and I accomplished my first solo backpacking trip. All of the other days, including the city, were 6-8 miles of walking.

    One issue that came up for me was my mobile phone. I have become reliant on it for tracking macros, calories, and water intake. However, in the wilderness area, I did not have access to mobile data nor wifi, and the app that I use for tracking will not work if it is offline. I am sure that I met my water goals, but I doubt that I was able to reach my protein goals.

    My second issue that came up with the mobile phone was, well, I broke it while in the city! So, in the span of 8 days, I was only able to track my intake for 1. It remains frustrating, as I haven't replaced my phone yet.

    I will need to get some kind of paper logbook/backup option for travelling in the future. I am going to search the forums and start a post to find out what others use as an alternative to electronic journalling. 

  18. Frustrating I know but remember a stall when your body shuts down to reassess your new needs. It’s when it resets things like your digestive hormones, metabolism, etc. to support the changes you’ve made & weight you’ve lost so far. Stalls last as long as your body needs to do this & the stall will break when it’s ready to move forward again. Let your body do what it needs to do. Don’t stress it more (you’ve already been putting it through a lot) by making changes to your activity or calorie intake or food choices except for the accepted changes required by your plan. I used to describe stalls as when your body needs to take a breath. It closes the door, climbs into bed & pulls the covers over its head saying I’ve had enough & I can’t deal with this at the moment. The day always comes when your body gets up & says yep I’m ready to face the world & you start losing again. Most tend to have their first stall around the three week mark but it can happen before or after then. They tend to last 1-3 weeks but for some it’s longer & for some it’s only a few days. Mine were the few days type.

    Did anyone NOT have a 3 week stall?

    I had my surgery on Sept 14. I'd lost 20lbs during my two week pre-op liquid diet, and another 22lbs up to Oct 19 (5 weeks post-op) and had no change the next week and this week actually gained three pounds. Not impressed!

    that part of my brain is remembering which bars/restaurants offer buck-a-shuck oysters each day of the week. oh, and when which bars/restaurants have karaoke nights during the week... 😂😂😂😂
  21. I was always a big fan of veggies which never reflected on my weight sadly enough. But obviously did when it came to testing for coronary artery blockages which is high risk in my family DNA. All clear. I recently had a colonoscopy. Preventative testing at the urging of my doctor. I was worried with my recent RNY surgery in April to do it but was told they only check the lower colon, so it was safe. All clear. Fiber does do a body good. Even had a mammogram. A OK👍 During my soft food phase I made big pots of vegetable soup. Very soft veggies went well for me. But I was craving salad. I waited till I was given the green light at 3 months for raw, but it gave me the foamies. I still am cautious when eating them and prefer to avoid till further down the road. I was able to eat fresh tomatoes from the garden eventually but had to spit out the skin at first. Baby carrots are another I have no problem with. Go figure. I think it's the lettuce giving me issues. Stir fry is another love of mine but can't do half cooked veggies either. Eventually I will. I would advise waiting OP. Raw veggies are really hard on your healing tummy. Even more so if you try them before you are supposed to. You will find out like me that even after getting the OK, avoiding getting sick trumps the cravings. But everyone's different. YMMV. GL

    I’m almost done with week three of preop diet and it has gotten better. I got stuck at the hospital yesterday with my son having a procedure and made it 6 hours without thinking too much about food. Halloween was a bit rough with all of the candy around. However I’ve been sticking to it knowing that changes are necessary. Down about 20 pounds so that helps too. Constipation is still an issue and I’m also getting a sweet taste in my mouth from what I’m assuming is all of the protein shakes. I can definitely see why on the long haul people look for unsweetened protein powders.
  23. I ate cucumber from about 6-8 weeks I think but it was ages for other vegetables. Though I tend to steam my vegetables & rarely eat them raw (except for salad vegetables like cucumber, tomato, celery, etc.). Raw vegetables are more coarse & can cause issues like the foamies & can be harder to digest which may be why we’re encouraged to wait a few months before eating them & when we’re more fully healed. Is it the vegetables you crave or the crunch? if it’s more the crunch try cucumber just remove the seeds. The higher water content helps makes them easier to swallow & digest. And they’re good for your digestion. (Used to wrap smoked salmon around wedges with a little cream cheese for lunch - was yum until my tummy decided it didn’t like smoked salmon again. 😁)
