Saw PCP today, Not supportive to go to Mexico
HoosierGirl replied to becksnky's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My PCP was on board with weight loss surgery. Once I was denied by my insurance company, I figured out the whole Mexico thing, had surgery and sent my PCP the surgical notes. When I saw her next, she asked if I was pulling her leg. NOPE! Told her how it went down, she seemed pleased. Done deal. You are welcome to read my blog post about it http://hoosierfatty.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/first-doctor-visit-after-surgery-in-mexico/ Of course your PCP will continue to treat you after the surgery. In reality, the only thing I needed help with was some follow up blood work after surgery. If your PCP doesn't come around, maybe it's time to look for a new doctor with an open mind? Good luck! -
Saw PCP today, Not supportive to go to Mexico
scarbedazzles replied to becksnky's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've not and will not tell my PCP....I figure asking forgiveness is easier than asking permission. lol this is my life and body....I don't want to live another decade without this tool....and end up sick and another 10 years wasted. What I want to know is how many here who've gone to MX have had a problem like an infection... seems to me most complications are from US surgeons. IDK what ya'll think? -

I have a 14 month old baby - just learning to walk. Yes, I know why walk when you can ride mommys hip! Anyway, I have been trying to decided if I want to go from band to sleeve. I hate the band and you guys are so great posting your experience and advice. I'm pretty sure I am going to do it, the question is WHEN... I have to do before Jan because my deductibles are met... But I have a young toddler. I could get some help but not sure for how long. By the time I do it he will be walking pretty good but how will I feel REALLY feel the first few weeks out if surgery and how until I can pick him up? He's 19-24 pounds

Oh Lord, Surgery Date has Changed Again!
virtygirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was orginially scheduled for surgery on August 2 then it was changed to August 5. So I received a call from the surgeon's office this morning, and it has been changed yet again. This time I was presented with 2 options, the first being next Friday, July 22 and August 19. Well August 19 is absolutely out of the question. I would need to push back to the October, if that was the case. So, I will be having my surgery at 12:45 pm on July 22. Oh lord, am I really ready for this? So, my initial dilemma has been solved, which was my husband being out-of-town. He is going to adjust his schedule. So my next dilemma is work and telling my boss that I will be out of office starting next Friday. I had planned to be out of the office for two weeks after surgery in August and then work from home the next week or so. At least now I will be able to return to work sooner, mid-August, so that is actually a good thing. But am I ready? -

This is my first fall/winter after wls in August. My weight loss started early this year. So this time last year I was the heaviest I've ever been, and now I'm over 120 pounds less than my highest. I'm experiencing the super-happy annoyance of having no warm clothes that fit me for the first time ever. For me, it was basically my experience since puberty started at 10 years old that I could pretty much expect to need a new coat and new wardrobe in general every winter. This year, my wardrobe consists of lots of cheap leggings, and layers of too-big hoodies. Even though this kinda sucks and worries me for financial reasons, I just can't feel in any way upset about it.

Prayers PLEASE!!!!
Angela Sims replied to Angela Sims's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well folks I still need prayers... I have yet to get my return and the IRS can not give me a reason... This is BS... I call every other day and nothing after the initial 30 days they send a message to a different dept. and say to give it another 30 days... That was on 3/25 so I am in waiting... I have talked to Sandy and She is waiting until 4/8 to hear back from me... I just really need prayers.. This has gotten me so down that I am not wanting to get out of the bed.. I am a mother of 3 (son is 15 and twin girls 10) also 1 of my daughters has Down Syndrome and needs extra care.. I have got to get healthy so I can take care of her.. My mother in law lives with us and takes care of the things I can't.. helping her bath and stuff... But that is my job.. PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS.. Angela -
It's Time. Did you "indulge" because you were sort of burnt out and needed a break from the program? The reason why I ask is because we had surgery about the same time and I was finding myself getting sort of burnt out. Plus I felt it would be way too much to expect my dear hubby to not only have to care of me for 10 days but also to weigh/measure my food. I am just so grateful that he was more than willing to do everything on top of taking excellent care of me. I guess I justed needed a break and now I'm ready to get back on the program. I'm sure we will both succeed.

What Made You Choose Vsg Over The Other Procedures?
M2G replied to sleevemeup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out wanting a band. I did NOT want bypass as re-routing my intestines and causing malabsorption did not appeal to me. The "idea" of the band sounds great. A smaller stomach means you eat less food and therefore are full on less. However, as I researched the band, I learned about the vomiting (something I cannot deal with!) being stuck and not having food go down, yet still being hungry, etc. I started researching the VSG and while it is a big deal to lose 85% of your stomach, it sounded SO much better than the alternatives. It is purely a restrictive procedure, so you are full on less food. You still have to make good food choices, exercise, plenty of Water, etc. The one thing that I can say that has helped me tremendously is the fact that I do not have hunger. Not every sleever loses their hunger but a large majority do. It's amazingly easy to make good food choices when you are not driven by hunger. I also just had my labs pulled again at my 18 month checkup and everything is completely normal and perfect. My surgeon doesn't even think I need labs again at my 2 year based on my results. I'm almost 19 months post-op and I can't imagine having had any other surgery as I knew VSG was right for me. -
When did you start protein bars?
Christinamo7 replied to camry2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maybe 10 weeks out or so? because I walk A LOT and sometimes need a little boost to calories/protein. I have only found one I like, and it is a treat for when I am extra active, not a daily thing. or when my hormones make me a stark raving lunatic, because the one I like is also chocolate. -
Nov 22 Sleeved And Now I'm Miserable Help
sweety93 commented on laphila76's blog entry in laphila76's Blog
I was sleeved on 11/22 as well. My doctor prescribe a liquid only diet and I can not have eggs until 12/19. I know that each doctor has their own recommendations but maybe it's too soon and was the reasoning for you voimiting. I hope it gets better for you. The only thing that keeps me going right now is the fact that I have lost 15 pds since surgery. -

When I got my first fill last week (1/27), I was told I could have another fill in two weeks if I still felt I was in the yellow zone (hungry between meals, eating large portions, etc.). They just told me to wait one week to see how I feel first and then I could call and schedule the next fill for the next week. Yesterday, I was crazy hungry all day... may have something to do w/starting back at Jazzercise. So, I called this morning to schedule my second fill (thinking it would probably take them at least another two weeks to get me in). Well, I was very pleasantly surprised that they can do my fill next Wednesday, 2/10 (so exactly 2 weeks after my first). Yay!!! Its funny, when I tell my friends how I get stuck w/a needle and aren't supposed to eat for 72 hours after, they figure I would want to postpone as long as possible between fills. And, personally, I was a teensy weensy bit tempted to schedule this fill AFTER Valentine's Day since DH and I have reservations for a very nice dinner out. But, above anything else, I just want to get this show on the road. And, ultimately, this will be my life. I can still enjoy our V-Day dinner out, but savoring a small amount of food (maybe just getting an appetizer for my meal) rather than stuffing myself w/a 4 course meal. I am ready!!! I've been so happy w/what the band has done for me already, but I am eager to get it working to its full potential. :smile2:

change lap band due to expired life of the band
Melissannde replied to options123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know a few who have had theirs 10 or 11 years, original band. Still working fine. -
Yup really soft scrambled. I take 1 egg, whisk it really well. I then add ½tsp of greek yogurt and whisk that in. This helps keep them moist, but you can use a tiny bit of milk if you prefer. I also sprinkle just a little bit of shredded cheese. Then I either cook in a non stick pan on a low heat stirring constantly or I microwave for 1minute, stir and microwave for another 10 seconds if necessary.

Has anyone been able to actually feel what your'e drinking going down?
1hotmommy replied to mantusmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was Banded on Sept 12th and I am like you I can feel it when I eat sugar free pudding or Jello. I also went to Target and bought me these 3oz plastic Solo cups they are like the ones you use in the bathroom for a small drink. Since I use them it helps me know how much Fluid I am putting in my body so that I do not over do it and get to full. I even use it for the jello or the cream of wheat. I have not once been sick or nauseated. I also just went to the doctor for my ten day check up and I lost 10 pounds and have already lowered my blood pressure. I also wanted to tell you about this Protein Drink I bought it is called Pro 5 and it is the best tasting Protein drink I have ever had it also mixes very well with a shaker cup with a cold bottle of Water and there are no clumps. So this is perfect if you are working. I mix it with 6oz of water then I have gotten in 34 grams of protein. You will have to look it up online and find out who distributes it in your area. -
Best Protein Powder Post Op
Nikkipit replied to awillaweigh328's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the unjury unflavored Protein mix and it goes in everything! I also like the Unjury chicken Soup protein mix. I am still on liquids. ... day 10 post op sleeve and love the chicken soup one!!!! Sent from my SM-J320F using the BariatricPal App -
I am compelled to join and say the unjury choc splendor is literally the BEST Protein powder I have ever tried (and we've been through at least 10 others). Just ordered 2 more today. It tastes like chocolate milk, and is the only powder I've found that dissolves well. And no chalky protein taste. Literally none! I wish someone would have told me this before I wasted hundreds on other powders!

On the last run to home.
Stephanie Stroup McIntosh replied to able2cope's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can do it, but remember you want to be at a stable weight before having skin surgery. If that means you need to wait another month or 2, so be it. You dont want to lose 10 pounds before surgery to just put it back on and start stretching out the new skin. -

Not Losing Weight?
BBdoodle replied to emiller2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your 19 lbs loss is great Once you get into a routine you will see a steady weekly loss of anywhere from 1 lbs to 3 or 4. It all depends on how much you have to lose... I believe RNY you will lose 70-80% of your weight where the band and sleeve is something like 60% only.
