  1. My surgery was March 7th, and I've lost 33 pounds so far (starting weight 193). Lately my weight has been doing a weird thing where I will gain and lose the same half a pound or so for a few days in a row. (I typically weigh the same time every morning) I don't understand how I could gain ANY weight when I'm barely eating anything. Has anyone else experienced this?
  2. Yes year 3 weight gain very common. The sleeve effect wears off somewhere between year 2 and 3. Agree with suggestion to track your intake to see what you are really eating in terms of calories now.

    Frustrated and Pissed off!

Continue what you're doing and try not to let what the scale is reporting discourage you. Lesson learned here from someone almost 13 months out at goal weight BUT if I was to do it all over again, I would have changed my strategy. I noticed early on post WLS that my weight loss would slow down every time I exercised, so I didn't exercise the majority of the time post surgery. I reached my goal in no time but I was left with a skinny fat body. I am now working out harder than ever and building muscle. This process is actually making me GAIN some weight which is kinda freaking me out, but my muscles are becoming lean ad strong. I'm losing inches despite the slight weight gain as I build muscle. In the long run having that muscle will help us both look better and let's face it, exercise will be vital in maintenance. Keep it up. You are on your way to an awesome, toned, healthy body!

Bi-Polar Meds - The skinny and the fat

Topomax is used to treat BP its a mood stabalizer and a size effect is weight loss. Altho it comes with about a million other side effects they only last about 2 weeks until you are on the drugs regularly. Paxil Is used to treat the drepression part of BP and can be used with the Topomax if you do well on this antidepressant maybe ask your doc about putting these 2 together. I gained about a billion pounds being on and off the anti-depressant drugs myself and when I went on the BP combos I asked for one specifically designed to make me not gain anymore weight or I wouldnt be taking them lol. I also take Lorazepan but I just started that because I still have panic attacks which I have always had bad. But with increased stress in my life over some work situations and other stuff they are back with avengance and I am not sure if they have any weight gain or loss with those or not I should look that up after i post this actually hehe. Anyway hope that helps. -Gummie

Bi-Polar Meds - The skinny and the fat

I can relate to your situation First let me say all of my weight gain was from my Paxil I was on for 1.5 yrs and gained 70 lbs. Me too! The anti depressants will slow down your metabolic rate is what I was told by my PCP to almost zero, the meds are used for depression but after time for me I was more depressed from my weight gain then from what I was being treatedfor so I quit. Secondly, my son who is 19 is Bi-Polar he was also on the lithium whicvh made him a zombie, no motivation and all he did was sleep, then he went to depakote and his blood pressurewas so high the doctor was in fear he would have a stroke, so he quit taking that, then the prozac which did not do much so he is now smoking marijuana, he has one of those cards from his doctor where he can gfet it legally, it has been the only thing that has worked for him. No bi-polar episodes but every now and then he has panic attacks so takes an occassional xanax. Every person that I know personally who has taken any kind of anti-depressant has had weight gain, you may find that just getting off of the anti depressante will be enough and wil lstill be able to take your bi-polar meds my son never had weight gain taking his bi-polar meds if anything he lost weight. Have you ever tried lexapro, that is an anti depressant that my husband takes and has had no weight gain it works well for him, my doctor told me it has the least chance of weight gain..but everyone is different.

Bi-Polar Meds - The skinny and the fat

Lithium is known to cause weight gain but I've never tried it. When I was put on Depakote, I regained over a hundred pounds that I had lost. I switched to Lamictal and found it to be less sedating and was able to actually excercise loose some of the weight. I am not currently taking a mood stabilizer however. Throughout, I have also been on zoloft and at times zoloft and wellbutrin. I do not suspect either of the anitdepressants or the Lamictal of impairing my metabolism/energy like the depakote seemed to. Have you tried Lamictal?
  7. I need to cut back on the sugar.... I havent seen any weight gain from it yet but I find mysekf reaching for it a LOT mor often than I had been.... Questions And Issues About Lapband

First of all your tired from smoking pot. Secondly you can drink if you want but its just empty calories and no you dont get drunk quicker with the band because it goes right through to the bottom part of the stomach. Dont you think that smoking pot is the reason for your weight gain to begin with. If you want to smoke and drink whats the point. In answer to your question yes you can drink and smoke but really whats the point of having surgery.

    Antidepressants Post Op?

I was banded in 2008...took my small anti deps no probkems. Take them to hospital with you and they will administer to you as they should be.After years struggling with tge band im having a revision to bypass. If its possible fir you to go with sleeve instead i recommend it. Tge band is hughly fallinle and 80% of bands have to be removed within 10 years due to hiatus hernua, overworked esophagus, and weight gain. Mist banders will tell you it is the biggest medical con of the 20th century. Sorry for tge bad news but Re think if possible. Have a read of the posts under the forum heading "gastric band to bypass". It will give you a pretty realistic picture of the band. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App
  11. TLC is doing alot of stories on larger folk today and tonight. I watched the story about the guy who lost 400 lbs. 'the natural way' by dieting and exercising. He was training with the biggest loser guy..Chris something or other. Anyway, definitely a put down of those who have bariatric surgery so once I realized this was an old program, I Googled the guy, and what do you know?? He gained back 300 of the 400 lbs. he lost. Now I take no pleasure in his weight gain but it shows once again that losing it is the easy part. It's the maintenance that's hard. The 600 lb. people next week has the woman who in the promo says that she could easily be back at 600 lbs. again but that she chooses not to. That's the reality of our lives. Even with bariatric surgery, we can gain it back. I know...I see folks on this forum all the time struggling with regaining. I just wish, as many of you also do, that the general public stops seeing WLS as the easy way out...or even as cheating. Oh..and one more thing as long as I'm posting stuff about these types of shows. What's with the woman on My Big Fat Life? Is she supposed to make us think she's fat and happy? If so, she's not. She reminds me of myself...very self-depricating in order to shield herself from just how unhappy she truly is. Or she's just delusional. She's a very large woman and no one that big can be happy at that size. Not in this society anyway. Smaller is beautiful and anyone who says otherwise is rationalizing. Did you see the guy she met who was a chubby chaser? He didn't care about her...only about her body. That's probably what extraordinary beautiful women experience as well, but it's just an assumption on my part. Anyway, just some random thoughts while I sit here and watch our mayor again tell us that the city will shut down tonight while the blizzard is upon us.

    Too Much Information

This is my view on this (not banded yet). I have a slow metabolism so I worry about not losing weight. If you can't lose weight on 900 cals a day then you absolutely SHOULD be banded because there is no way someone can really sustain that sort of caloric intake forever without the help of a band so to me you are STILL better off. That's what I tell myself .. cuz it can take me a year to lose 20 lbs on maybe 1300 cals a day BUT I can gain it in a flash (like 2 months) if I slip so even if I only lose 20-30 lbs in a year - I WON'T be slipping up to the tune of 25 lbs weight gains anymore.. so i'm still better off.
  13. I'm afraid of depo bc of weight gain and the pill makes me sick. I've done nuva ring with success in the past. It's easier than it seems!

    2016 Fall TV Season

You can still enjoy some tv shows or movies even while you are working on losing weight and after having surgery. I have found that doing some in-place marching or weight training while watching my favorite tv shows helps and actually keeps me motivated. It is kind of like a reward for working out or doing some cardio, and working out is something I have always struggled to do. Yes, a very sedentary lifestyle can lead to some weight gain, but I don't think it means giving up the simple pleasures of watching tv. I do think everyone has their own ways of dealing with that, though. I hope your WLS journey is going well Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App
  15. Just go and face the music. I'm sure a little tough love never hurt anyone :blushing: I know the doctor is probably not going to be happy with me either. I had a fun filled weekend of lots of beer, Dairy Queen, mexican food, and even a fried gas station burrito at 3AM last weekend. Thanks to all that, My 6lbs came back and then some! RIDICULOUS! My total weight gain is 7lbs since unfill but I have until Friday to work out and eat right again so maybe I'll only be up a few pounds. I've been thinking though, if I didn't gain a lb with being unfilled, they might not want to put any back in soooo showing a few lbs weight gain might not be such a bad thing. I've almost got myself talked into buying a Gold's Gym Stride Trainer 595. Anyone have any experience with ellipticals? When I was 300lbs, I tried to get on one and definitely thought I was going to die/have a heart attack after 30 seconds.

    Disgrace

You'd be shocked how many people walk around with bands too tight for fear of gaining weight- yet are already gaining weight- then actually start losing weight again once they get a little fluid removed and can actually eat healthy foods again. The band being too tight is likely a big part of your weight gain. Best wishes to you.
  17. Veronica, I'm sure you are in need of a fill, it has been a year since your last one, Call Dr. Martinez he will tell you what he thinks. What is it that you are eating in a day exactly? because we all know more calories in then calories burned will produce weight gain. Do you have any restriction? if anything I would go and see Dr Martinez to make sure all of your 2.2 cc's is still there and all is well with your band and maybe get a little adjustment. It cant' hurt.

    Weight gain-is it normal?

weight gain is NORMAL right after surgery. I think about 97%- 99% of all people that will give you feedback will tell you they gained weight right after but lost it quickly. Good Luck on your journey
  19. I have been doing so well for the past 6 months by exercising and eating right up until I got my surgery date two weeks ago. Now I have NO Will Power, I am hungry all the time and I suddenly don't have the motivation to exercise. I feel horrible and I fear that my surgery date will be cancelled due to weight gain. Maybe I want to eat everything in sight due to my fear of NEVER HAVING IT AGAIN! Has anyone else experienced self sabotage before the surgery?

Birth Control Pills. Need some feedback

hey iluvcarbs! i've been one "the pill" since i was 16 after having an ovary removed because i had a big ol tumor on it and then having really bad periods after that. i was scared to go on the pill since i've only got the one ovary and didn't want to have any fertility problems in the future. i was on about 3 different brands before going on Yasmin. everything else was making me feel sick but i've had no side effects with Yasmin. some friends of mine also use it and they haven't had any weight gain from it or other side effects. i think the most important thing is to work with your md and just know that the first thing you try might not be right for you but you'll find one that is a good fit. :rose:
  21. Well today two things hit me and it hit me hard. :huh2: 1. I realized my hair is a bit thin in places, well that is from the first few weeks post op. I know I wasn't getting my Vitamins and Proteins the way I should have. Harder then you think on a total liquid diet. But now, I am back on track so it should start coming back (HOPEFULLY before the hubby comes home I will have some growth back). Not gonna stress it cause it happens, not much you can do but make sure you get all your vitamins and proteins. Which I am. 2. (and this one is the worst) I got on my scale today and 3 lbs are back from the abyss. I know its because I am back on a full foods diet (well mostly, but I still have partial liquid and/or mushies at times) and my body is trying to hold on to it. Guess its time to up my 30 minute elliptical trip to 45. I mean I was expecting some weight gain back, before my fill but it still hurts. Ok, that is my bitch for the day, I will get over it *counts* Ok, not full over it but getting there. Like I said I was expecting both but hoping neither happened. Who knows maybe the 3lbs is a delayed ToM bloat ( wishful thinking I know) cause I didn't really gain on that first day of my ToM and I am on my last days now. *deep breath* Ok, I am done, not fully over it but hey what are ya gonna do ya? :rolleyes2::cursing::thumbup::cursing::smile2::cursing:
  22. Ok eveyone can tell im losing weight. I know for a fact im losing tons of inches and have lost a total of 17 pounds ONLY since my surgery on December 1st ...I have only had 2 fills, I have a little over 4cc in my 10cc band. For example I had a protein shake in the morning and a bowl of soup for lunch with a salad and i most of it, but there was still some soup and salad left! When I got home I was not hungry but I had some popcorn Thats it! I have noticed my hair getting thinner.....I do take my vitamin EVERYDAY.....NO WEIGHT GAIN .... I asked my office for more fluid but they only give 1cc per visit ......SAD SAD SAD .....BOO HOO

    No progress

I didn't lose weight my first three weeks, in fact I maintained the hospital five pound weight gain. Now its six weeks and about forty pounds down. Be patient with your body and kind to yourself. Good luck, it will come.
  24. The Candidate

    Weight gain

I started with a 45 BMI and ended up with a 39 BMI and was still approved. Unfortunately there is no standardization among different insurance companies, so whether the slight weight gain will hurt you or not you'd had to find out directly from your carrier. I hope you get approved! Good luck!
  25. I get dumping syndrome from even 1 chocolate chip! Or from even skim milk or anything with sugar elements in it! I get the sweats feel like I am gonna puke and feel like I have the very worst hangover I ever had for an hr or two. As far as weight gain well grazing is the most common reason or eating past full.
