  1. Hi! I'm only day 5 post op but have a question... When you make your protein drink it's at least 8 oz right? Is this a meal replacement for you or a snack in addition to your meals? Confused on how someone said they can take a Greek yogurt and glass of Oj with genpro in morning.. Wouldn't that be too much for stomach?? Thanks for your insight Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App Hi! I put one scoop of Genepro (30 gram protein equiv) in about a quarter cup of OJ. So overall very little volume. I take it almost like a shot glass of alcohol. At first I had to take smaller sips. I also have a standard serving of Greek yogourt and my multivitamins in the morning with it. Hope that clarifies! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks for that, that makes sense. I was thinking you did 8oz of oj. Gonna try genpro, doing unjury now and I can taste it Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

    Divorce

You are a strong lady.No one ever has the right to hit you, alcohol or not.Once it starts it won't stop.Unless he gets major help.Protect yourself emotionally and physically.Document if he left marks.
  4. Hello everyone! I am 10 days post op and I can tell you that my therapist and support group have been an integral part of recovery thus far. I used to say, "I will be ok as I don't think I have much of a food addiction " ... I was so wrong. The first few days have been so rough bc all I am left is with...myself! As my therapist put it and it's a tough place to be at. Not being able to go to food, alcohol, or shopping has been something that has made me look into myself and listen to myself. I have a long road ahead but I am so grateful to have a network of support and feel I am not alone. I don't know how people do this without support of a professional or some type of group. Good luck all! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Divorce

My gastric sleeve was 11/7/16 and I wish nobody gets divorce after this surgery. I thought I would be one of the Lucky ones that wouldn't. That I had a supportive husband who loved me and would never do anything to jepordize Our relationship. After 5 years of being married luckily with no kids I'm on the verge of a divorce. Maybe you get more courage while losing weight and you value yourself more . But I realized that I can't let my husband treat me Any way he wants. He got drunk tonight on New Year's Eve and after 5 hours of spending time with his brother and niece I told him let's go to bed tell them good night ( at 5 am). It got him so mad that he brought up things from 6 years ago while we were dating and called me a whore. I got mad and called him an alcoholic like his dad who abandoned him and he got even more mad. I threatened him with divorce and he was about to leave then I realized I didn't want to throw everything away for him being drunk and begged him to stay. He pushed me against the wall, slapped me and would keep pushing me off. His strength beat me and he finally left and went with his drunk brother to his moms house. No matter what I realized I can't let any man treat me this way and even before he left I told him he would regret this.' But no matter what I can't forgive him. My mom has always told me never to let any man put his hands on me so no matter what I can't forgive him. I'm glad I have the confidence to know that I don't deserve this but it sucks that I'm a stastistic about to be divorced. Again it sucks and I hope nobody ever goes through this. But just know that this surgery can make a lot of things change and only God knows what's best for us and why things happen
  7. Hi guys! I was sleeved on 12/22. I planned on getting a flu vax at my pre-op appt, but my doc's office was out of vaccines and I didn't bother checking anywhere else b/c I was busy trying to make Christmas as seamless as possible for my 2 littles. Well, my husband and 2 kids got their flu vax the minute they were available in Sept, however, my 2yo and husband were diagnosed on Wed with Flu A. It's been so rough for them. On Wed, I contacted my PCP who put me on Tamiflu in hopes that I wouldn't catch it. Well it didn't work. I have a temp of 102, nausea is semi supresssed with Zofran but still having periodical heaving. I sweat one min then chills the next. My surgeon emailed me Thurs and said stay hydrated with Clear liquids and forget about the Protein shakes if I wasn't up to drinking them. The problem I'm having is that I have a horrible sensitivity to sugar alcohols. In fact, my NUT has me drinking Carnation breakfasts with unflavored protein instead of typical Protein Shakes. I've been only drinking Water and broth for my clear liquid option, but it's making nausea worse. If I have even 1 sugar-free popsicle or Jello, within minutes, I have diarrhea. I'm not craving anything and feel like I could go days without drinking anything, but I know I need to stay hydrated. How awful would it be to try regular Gatorade? I don't want to undo any weight loss progress and my NUT won't answer my emails until Monday. I have her cell # but she gave it to me to use over Christmas while she was out of town and I don't want to abuse it. Is there something I could try to soothe my throat, keep me hydrated and not fill me with sugar? Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

    Piercings

Back in the day..... Lolol! The old folk used to cut a straw from a straw broom & put a lil clean peice of it dabved in a bit of rubbing alcohol in ur ear piercing hole to keep em open. I did that for a nose piercing for a friend b4 surgery once...it worked! Try it. You'll only need it for about 3hrs.

    After how much time .......

I travel a lot for work. You will be fine after 3 weeks if as you say its a relaxing visit. Most important will you have a kitchen? Preparation will be the most important and who knows what you can get in Columbia. I was able to find a GNC in Mexico while I was there and purchased some of their pre made Protein drinks. You'll still be needing to supplement your diet at 3 weeks. Heck I'm 5 months and still supplementing mine with Gen Pro. You may want to pick some of that up. Tasteless and mixes into anything and gives you 30 grams. You're diet at 3 weeks will be very small and limited. You shouldn't be attempting to go out to dinner, no alcohol. Like I said, if you have a full kitchen and can supply it like you do at home, you should be fine. I was not cleared for exercise or lifting until six weeks. So keep that suitcase light or have someone carry it. Plan food/drinks for your flight.

    Smoking Marijuana Preop

THC is not a problem here at all (Oregon), but my NP did say no smoking and no edibles. Tinctures, oils, and the like are fine, though. However, she does not allow pot, alcohol, or tobacco within three days before surgery. I take tincture sublingually for pain whenever I need it....which is less and less as I lose weight and the stress on my joints eases. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  12. I am two months post op (sleeved 10/27).. Lost 32lbs so far. Haven't lost a pound in almost 2 weeks. Many on this site are posting they've lost up to twice as much at the two month point. I just want to take a moment to tell pre-op folks that those type of results require a LOT of work. This is extremely hard. I NEVER lost my appetite (it is a beast, and no it is not head hunger). I had very little restriction at all after 6 weeks post op. Right now I can eat almost anything if I want to and in very large quantities if I choose to snack all day (I don't do that). Some people apparently have no appetite for at least six months. That's not me. Some people apparently have a crazy tight restriction up to years out. Not me. Perhaps because my doc does a bell shaped sleeve with a wider opening at the bottom of the stomach.. I don't know... my point is -- You HAVE to stay on program and not eat forbidden foods. You have to know that this is not a magic pill. You HAVE to work at it every single day. Journal everything you eat. Don't drink alcohol (even at Christmas parties and other events); don't eat processed foods; eat very very slowly and with toddler utensils; don't eat refined carbs; get your Protein, Vitamins and Water in; and get moving around and working out as soon as your doctor approves it. See a psychologist as soon as you can to work out your food addiction or other addiction issues. It's worth it. This surgery is NOT an easy fix but nevertheless it's is worth it. Thats my rant for the day . To all the perfect people who will seek to tear my post apart and put me down (inevitable on this site), please just know everybody's struggle is different and even you are not perfect. Thanks. How soon...

The r e was one small and (IMo) flawed study a few years ago that got lots and lots of airtime but there aren't any controlled studies to verify the claim that WLS patients are at a higher risk for alcoholism. How you absorb alcohol depends on genetics not your stomach size. All that being said you need to ask your surgeon how far after surgery you can consume alcohol. My said 8 weeks but I can't even imagine wanting it or wasting calories on it.

    Drinking alcohol with band

Gonna be honest when I had my band it didn't change my tolerance at all - though obviously a good idea to eat before going out. The band doesn't affect your ability to absorb alcohol. I've recently had a band to bypass revision and I understand that this will change my tolerance. As for drinks, vodka is one of the lowest calorie drinks - maybe mix with a diet soda to reduce the irritant affect on your stomach though? Depends how you do with carbonation mind.... Drinking alcohol with band

My relationship with alcohol since surgery has not changed, although I am not a heavy drinker...just socially, parties, dinner, etc. With the band however, I have to be careful when drinking beer...don't over do it, and never with food in the stomach - pouch. I hear a lot of people talk about your tolerance changing...I have not experienced that at all. I wonder if the majority of people are experiencing this or like most things on this forum, just repeating what others have said. But bottom line, listen to your Dr.

    How soon...

I've been told to stay away from alcohol for about a year. That bariatric patients are at high risk for alcoholism and 1 ounce of wine could literally put you on your butt. Since our body metabolizes differently, our tolerance for alcohol is back at zero. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  18. PCOS doesn't slow down weight loss. And 39 pounds in 10 weeks it a lot! You weight goes up and down all the time. If you are following your prescribed food plan you are losing FAT no matter what the scale says. Maybe you can stop weighing yourself every day? Some weeks you might not lose any weight. That is NORMAL. I eat 25 grams of carbs, 90-110 grams of Protein, and as little sugar as possible (just what's in the 8oz of 1% milk I drink a few times a week). I add Fiber ( ground flax seeds) to my Protein shakes, you can also add Benifiber (it's clear and has no flavor) but drink the shake right away of it gets weird. I feel fuller for longer if I add some fiber to the shakes. I don't pay any attention to sodium, but I also don't eat packaged or canned food. Watch out for alcohol sugar (it's often in candy and protein bars) it will stall your weight loss no matter what the labels claim. In my opinion there is such a thing as too much zero calorie (100% chemical) sweeteners.Lots of studies fine that ithey increases hunger. I limit it to one or two packets a day. According to my PT I will get better results working out every second day. I alternate days walking (2miles) and toning/strength training . As for calories, what does your NUT/plan say? If you eat 90 grams of protein and 25grams of low calorie carbs you're eating about 600 calories a day. I eat about 800-900 because, strange as it seems, I wasn't losing much weight and was told by the NUT To increase my calories. Yes, it's normal to get a bit obsessed about your weight. I use a journal to keep track of everything I eat, how much Water I drink, my Vitamins, my blood sugars and exercise. How I explained it to a friend recently is that I have never spent so much time and effort on eating so little food. I want to add that I don't know how old you are, how much you weigh or how active you are. So...keep in mind that the things I do might not be the best for you. Please don't feel like people her are judgmental.

I felt like an ex smoker today

People in AA are the WORST. Talk about evangelical ex alcoholics! That's totally normal what you're feeling, by the way. I did for quite some time. Now I just look at them and empathise. I've also struggled with bringing the subject of WLS up to some friends and family members who I think would benefit from it, but I'm over that now, too. They know they're fat, and they know that WLS is a great option as they have seen me be pretty darn successful with it. I only hope they decide to do something about it before it becomes sadly too late.
  20. It's highly likely that you are feeling this way because of the caffeine. There's a reason why some doctors tell their patients to avoid caffeine after the surgery. You are feeling stronger effects of the coffee because your stomach is smaller. It's the same with alcohol. Those who drink after the surgery will most likely get drunk more quickly. For example, if it takes 8 shots to get you drunk before the surgery, then it may take only 1 or 2 shots to get you drunk post-op. Same goes for caffeine. I've been taking Adderall for years. Now that I've had my surgery, the Adderall makes me feel like I'm anxious and having a hard time breathing (but only sometimes). My sister has a strange reaction to coffee. Every time she drinks it, she feels paranoid and even questions peoples' intentions.

    Sleeve and Hip Surgery

I got my sleeve 12/17 I have been having really bad hip problems My Ortho surgeon said I needed to lose weight and that may prevent the hip surgery. the first 2 days after surgery my hip was fine. Now the pain is back I have lost a total of 30 pounds since this journey. Starting to feel depressed which leads to eating. The Holidays were crazy for me all I saw was food and alcohol I tasted some mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes chewing 30 times of course, But wonder if I have messed up anything. anyone know if the hip pain will get better by losing more weight and if the eating has messed anything up. Thanks
  22. Yes. And, FYI: If you've got an "inny" navel, do yourself a favor and clean it out with Q-tips before your surgery. Dip them in alcohol or something. Then use dry ones to dry the navel. Get the crud out so no one in the OR comments or glances askew. The nurses and staff will be so impressed.

    Real Food and Wine

Surgeon's recommendations differ but mine is pretty reasonable. I am 12 weeks post op. I started on "real food" (small plates with obvious restrictions..no sugar, bad starches, soda etc) at 4 weeks post op. But even though I am "allowed" to eat a lot of variety, my sleeve still doesn't want anything more than easy to digest Proteins, even 3 months post op. The easy to digest (without pain) proteins I enjoy and can tolerate are small amounts of fish, soft vegetables, cheese, and occasionally a very tender piece of beef such as tenderloin. Sushi/Sashimi is wonderful. A true treat for me is to make a small plate of about 2 oz of Sashimi, and 2 oz of soft cooked artichoke. As for wine, you are going to get lots of differing opinions. Beginning with week 8 post op I have enjoyed a small glass (maybe 2-3 oz) of very dry wine on occasion. Be careful, because alcohol is only empty calories. Small, tasty, high quality plates are the key. Just a few bites of something packed with nutrients is all you will want. Social events are fine. If food is involved I just order a small plate of something healthy and graze on it the whole time. No one ever notices that I rarely eat even half. I spend more time in conversation now.
  24. It was hard to stick to the plan, but I did it. 2 months out and I can basically eat anything with the exception of citrus fruit, dried fruit, caffeine, alcohol (@ 3 months) and steak, pork steaks, ham steaks, or liver (@ 6 months, but for the record...I will not be eating the liver). Not judging, but in my personal experience...I did everything that I was told to do, because each step was so fleeting in the grand scheme. If I can't do something hard for 1, 2, or 8 weeks, how am I going to survive the rest of my life? I was really fat for 23 years. It was really hard to live fat for that long...really easy to get that way, but HARD TO LIVE that life, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. If you want to live something different, you've got to do something different. End of story.

    Drinking alcohol with band

Getting banded will be good for you, the more fills you get the less desirable it will be to drink alcohol. I'm not here to judge, so please don't take it that way but you should really stop drinking; that road is going to get rough for you and it's simply not worth the "fun" you think you're having right now. Love yourself more, you deserve it.
