Feeing hungry, post op week2
Jobber replied to curtains's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I'm a week into the pureed stage. I have a lot of times what I think is hunger, but it's the dreaded head hunger. My stomach will ache like it's hunger, but I'm sure it's still healing or dealing with the changes I'm giving it. I'm learning to be very careful because even this early on, I'm still finding "slider" foods that are not filling me up. Just yesterday I pureed a can of New England clam chowder and ate the whole 2 cups of it. Since the potatoes and clams are not on my diet yet I felt it necessary to Ninja them up. Instead of the normal 100 calories or so that I'm getting with most pureed meat and veggies, I just got 400 in one sitting since I didn't get full. Other sliders for me have been yogurt, popsicles, and protein shakes. I'm doing good with the purees, though, since I spent a lot of my first week running veggies, fruits and lean meats through the ninja and then used a food saver and froze them all flat. Works well and very healthy. Just have to be careful with other stuff, I'm finding. Good luck to you -
Just going through the initial tests.

Try a diet similar to the liver shrinking pre-op diet you will be on for the VSG. I was on 4.5oz lean protein and 1-2 cups of vegetables OR a premier protein shake 4x a day. No more than 3 servings of fruit or yogurt per day. <50gr carbs daily. After 3 days, I no longer felt hungry all the time and I started losing weight fairly quickly. -
Very first puree meal, question

Yep. Avoid the grains. Go for yogurt, kefir, ricotta cheese/ricotta cheese bake, soft scrambled eggs (emphasis on soft), custard, protein puddings...and only progress slowly slowly. -
The Mayo Clinic has listed foods that sometimes are the culprit: Dairy products: The sugar lactose in dairy foods is a common cause of gas. Nonprescription products such as Lactaid or Dairy Ease may help. Many who are bothered by dairy products may still be able to eat yogurt or aged cheeses. Some vegetables: Some carbohydrates found in vegetables such as onions, radishes, cabbage, celery, carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and legumes (including dried peas and beans) can produce gas. Beano, or other products that contain simethicone (Phazyme, Gas-X, others), may be helpful. Too much fruit sugar: Prunes, raisins, bananas, apples and apricots as well as juices made from prunes, grapes and apples can cause gas. Too much fiber: Cutting back on high-fiber foods, and then gradually increasing them, can help identify the amount that can be tolerated. Some sweeteners: Sweeteners used in sugar-free chocolates and candies can cause diarrhea in some people. These sweeteners include sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol. Fatty food: Fried food, fatty meat and some sauces can cause gas.

Any suggestions to doctor yogurt up? I eat vanilla and put 1 T pumpkin seeds in there for crunch. I'm getting bored, but it's a high protein source. Thanks all. Appreciate it!! -
my gassy experiment

I haven't thought about dairy. Most of my dairy intake is the Premier protein I use as coffee creamer, yogurt, and cheese. Unless there is dairy in protein bars too? I'll have to give that a try. -
Week 5 . Am I getting in my nutrients

Cottage cheese, refried beans, yogurt and fairlife mils is what I lived off. Fairlife Coles in chocolate too. I can ear meat, but it hurts really quickly. I'm almost 7 weeks out, so I try to stick to softer foods. Good luck! It will get better! -
Sorry it's hard for you , you can drink decaf coffee to get bowls move more and of course fluids and like others said walking. Also Oikos zero yogurt is awesome many different flavors 15 grams of protein and sugar free made with stevia. Highly recommend post opt, I hate broth! So I strain soups for more flavors. I've been lucky with my recovery. Another thing i listened to healing music from you tube just a thought . I've been doing great1 Hang in there

One month post op sadness!

Some people have more inflammation from the surgery and just need more time to heal. Relax, improvements will happen, this too shall pass. Try a warm liquid 15 minutes prior to eating - bone broth. Take slow, slow ingestion of everything and wait in between bites or sips of protein drinks. At this stage it is nearly impossible to get protein requirements in without liquid protein shakes, it is crucial for healing to get your protein in. ?applesauce? Not nutritionally important for our purposes, better off choosing high protein yogurts. Hang in there, it only seems like progress is slow because your focus is so tight in the beginning of this journey. -

April 2019 Surgeries!
KateBruin replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone who shares my date (April 4) lose weight yet? I gained 4 lbs in swelling a fluid retention. Stupid scale. Today I’m getting plain Greek yogurt from TJs and frozen fruit to blend in. I can’t stand the low calorie, pre mixed fruit yogurts. I thank pain meds for helping me think outside of the box! -

Week 5 . Am I getting in my nutrients
ejmom86 replied to Ezinne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm just starting full liquids today so I don't have a lot of experience to give but I plan on using protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt and possibly trying out protein pudding. I was able to get in about 6 tablespoons of protein shake this morning before I felt really uncomfortable. I think it's gas/period pain but I didn't want to push it. I've had a few sips of water over the last 45 min and the pain seems to be subsiding. My advise would be to stick to easy proteins and try things like chicken in a week or two and see how it goes. It's almost like feeding a baby food for the first time. Doesn't always go well, try again after some time has passed. Good luck! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was on April 4th, as well. It's crazy to think it's already been a week. According to my nutritionist I can now move on the the full liquids stage. Thin creamed soups, drinkable yogurts, coffee and shakes instead of just broths and other clear liquids. Never thought I would be so happy to drink shakes and creamed soup. I am trying to get creative on reaching my protein goal so I have been researching different soups and ways to add protein. How are you feeling one week post op? I feel GREAT!

Very first puree meal, question
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yup, the yogurt went down better than the cream of rice. I mixed 2 TBS plain Greek yogurt with a tiny bit of sugar free jam. Yum Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

You should do fine with yogurt. I was able to have yogurt on the liquid diet and never had any issues. -
I'm a pescatarian. Before things went to **** (I felt great the first 2.5 months, the last 2.5 months I've been really sick), I was able to get all my protein without land-based animals. I was routinely getting 70-80g protein/day. Some of my go-tos (again, when I was feeling well): greek yogurt cottage cheese (there is one that is higher protein) ricotta bake beans/lentils (although not a lot of protein here) fish/shrimp tofu So, for example, I'd have the following: B: egg (7g), small veggie sausage (9g) (sometimes with some salsa, guac and cheese) L: ricotta bake (19g) with spinach S: cheese or almonds (appx 7g) 😧 2-3 oz fish/shrimp (10-15g), about 40g of veg. S: Fairlife Milk (13g) Total: 65-70g (not including incidental protein from veg, etc)

Thanks, Colorado Cowgirl. I'm definitely waiting until tomorrow to try a bit of Greek yogurt. If that doesn't sit well I'll keep waiting. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I travel for work a lot and my husband likes to eat out a lot. Honestly, I have no problem aside from getting these giant portions that I cannot eat. I choose the best choices for me and take the rest to go. I can usually get another 2 meals out of it (maybe more). tip: if your meal comes with a salad, get the dressing on the side otherwise you're in for a soggy mess and inedible as a leftover. When I'm out of town/staying in a hotel, I try to get a room with a refrigerator and microwave. That way I can pay for 1 meal that lasts me and I save on expenses. You didn't mention at what point in this process you are, your profile says pre-op, so I'll also provide a tip related to those special liquid or soft diets. When I was in pre-op and/or freshly post-op, I took items I could eat with me. EX: I had protein shakes with me (either ready made or ones I could mix easily in a shaker, as long as I knew I'd have access to milk). I kept protein bars with me and if I had a way to refrigerate things, I took string cheese, yogurt or cottage cheese with me.

How are you getting in enough protien
med28thmed replied to Porthous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Aside from taking multi vitamins, which I take twice daily, I also take calcium 3x per day. I'm only 5'0 and based on my gender and height, I should consume 46grams of protein daily. I have a Yogurt a day (16g) and either Almonds/Nuts (14g) or 2 eggs (12g), or cottage cheese (12g). Of course from your meat also when you eat your meals. -

Froufrou- what kind of protein are you having a hard time with? Just meats or is it meats, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese etc? Sld- I agree on the salads! I put my protein in/on my salad, about 1 1/2-2oz and was able to finish it both times I had it. I haven’t had any issues either, except of course getting food stuck which was user error on my part, lol. My weight has been stalled for a week, but I’m 8 weeks out and have lost 27lbs so far since surgery. Not exactly breaking any records. I’m hoping the weight loss pics up a bit when this stall breaks. -
1 Year Post Op - What are you eating?
KCgirl061 replied to YandereAngel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm kinda curious what type of protein shakes you're drinking that would even need the ice cream added to it. Thats a new one I haven't seen people doing. Like Premier Protein already tastes like melted ice cream to me. I hope the low fat ice cream is also a low sugar/high protein one (like Halo Top) otherwise you're just adding unnecessary calories. My breakfast is either eggs or Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. Lunch is usually a P3 and raw veggies with hummus or a dip made from greek yogurt. I'll have a Quest protein bar in the afternoon as a snack. Dinner is lean meat like chicken or ground turkey. Before bed I usually have a rice cake with PB2. -

Precious Pouch hates cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, and they along with peanut butter and bananas, were go- tos before my surgery. -
Wow they let you have full liquid and yogurt so soon. I have to do 1-2 weeks of clear liquid, 2 weeks of puree and 2 weeks of soft then get to go to regular food but will have to chew 25 x and wait 2 minutes between bites. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app
