Getting sick after morning meds/vitamins
MegPRN replied to TripleM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a multivitamin and 2 calcium citrate pills in the morning. I usually eat Greek yogurt for breakfast, and drink coffee with half and half. I used a generic calcium citrate for a few days, but noticed the nausea got so bad so fast that I was vomiting nearly every morning, whether I had food in my stomach or not. I switched to a name-brand calcium citrate, and I was good for a while, but lately I've been noticing some creeping nausea every morning again. It's now to the point where I get severely nauseated, feel like I'm going to vomit, and then I sneeze and the nausea goes away. I did the same thing with morning sickness when I was pregnant. Weird! I don't have a solution, unfortunately, other than maybe try a different brand of vitamin? Might help for a little while, anyway. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
SleevednowAK replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, Korean bbq😋. Had a lunch group meeting at a sushi house that offered bento boxes and it was the softest meat option and without having to explain why not eating sushi since many knew I cut out rice from my meals (packed most of it to go for husband to enjoy). Cravings are insane but spot on about it being mainly mental. Had a craving for frozen yogurt and after a couple tablespoons, lost interest. Bummer yet a win?! Wont complain. -
Need encouragement from slow losers
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Fluffy and GradyCat! I needed reassurance that it is possible! I'm still on shakes, 2 ounces of ricotta, or 2 ounces of non fat Greek yogurt. Nothin' carby or crappy in my diet, and I plan to keep it that way!! Trying pureed boiled egg for lunch today. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Deliberately eating to much
FluffyChix replied to caryla's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Yikes! So it's good you recognize this is a problem. That's the first step. Now what to do? As everyone's said, you MUST talk to your surgeon. You just do. Second, weigh, measure and log every morsel that goes in your mouth. If you need 70g of protein for the day divide that between 3 meals + 1-2 small protein or veggie snack. ONLY measure/weigh out the amount of food needed for that meal. And as @MIZ60 said, only put the portion you can eat on the plate. When it's done, you're done until the next meal. I know, easier said than done but you can do it. Choose low cook, low reward foods for meals for the next couple of weeks. The idea is to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible, and think about food as little as possible. If it were me, here would be my plan--I would buy a rotisserie chicken and eat on it all week and use the bones for bone broth. That way you don't need to worry about cooking at night except to microwave some veg. Are you eating 1/2c food or 3/4c food by volume? B-2 eggs + 1tsp olive oil (cooked any way you want) 1 turkey sausage 1oz baby spinach wilted in pan where you cooked your egg L-2oz Tuna Pouch 1oz cottage cheese 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1tsp dill relish spices 1 lettuce leaf (to wrap it in) AS-1/2c Greek Yogurt (plain 1/4c frozen blueberries 7 drops liquid stevia D-2oz rotisserie chicken 1oz broccoli (microwaved) 1oz avocado 1/2oz grape tomatoes BS-1tbsp almond butter (or 14g almonds) Try to use tiny saucers, tiny forks and spoons, and eat as dense a protein and al dente veg that you tolerate. Stay very well hydrated during the day, but 15minutes before you meal, drink an entire 8-12oz glass of water. Drink 3/4 of it as quickly as possible, then sip the remaining until full. Stop at 15 minutes. Then do not drink anything for 2 hours after your meal. This is called water loading. It helps with satiety tremendously. See if this helps. -

Hi! I'm eating about 300 to 500 calories per day. My protein goal is a minimum of 65 grams. I'm on soft foods like cottage cheese, string cheese and yogurt. I use GenePro protein powder in my coffee in the AM OR I'll have a protein shake. No fruits or veggies until Wed. Starting week 4 I can have soft veggies and fruits. Doc wants me to drink 64 oz. Of water per day but I'm only able to get in the 40s most days. I have my one month follow up tomorrow. I'm anxious to hear what the doctor says about the stall. I need to break this thing...lol

Week after surgery and I'm struggling
Bonines replied to Bonines's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just got the caramel flavor premier protein and i love it. I'll check out the banana. I was hesitant to buy it but I'll take your recommendation. Thanks! I'm in puree phase now and about to go to soft solids but still need to get that protein in. I've been relying on greek yogurt as well so that's been a big help. -
Puréed stage questions
Briswife15 replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your surgeon give you a specific list of purees you should eat? I have 2 stages of purees, bland purees for one week, then advanced purees for another week. Cream if Rice didn't sit well with me. I pureed refried beans with a little broth. Delicious. I can also eat ricotta cheese, plain Greek yogurt. Soon I'll add hummus, cottage cheese, and pureed boiled egg. Have trouble finding anythi,g chocolate and Peanut Butter- free. Been allergic to chocolate for 43 years, for some odd reason Precious Pouch regards PB as an adversary, made something for,Tomkitten, had a small amount on my fingers , went to,livk, them clean and PP made me sorry I ever drew breath! Odd, before surgery, PB, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and bananas, all favorite go- tos before, can't handle them now!

We are all out here supporting you @jennifer22672. I had a longer stay in the hospital than planned and 11 days after my release, I’m eating yogurt and down 8 lbs this week. You can do this!
-
Very sound choices and reasons. I hate breakfast but I can push yogurt. I'm trying to decide on protein powder or bars.
-
I eat Greek yogurt every morning for breakfast and often as a snack, too - but then, I'm not as hungry at those times as I am at lunch and dinner. I try to eat something denser for lunch and dinner. Although I know people who eat deli meat for breakfast, so that works, too!
-
Man, that's a LOT of protein! In my "new" beginning, should I keep yogurt, (slider) type foods as a go to snack food or would that just jump right through my stomach, with nothing to really "sit" in there for a while? I understand about density, just wondering about yogurt, as it's high in protein.
-
Greek yogurt does have a lot of protein, and I eat it every day, but it does go right through you. Something like meat sits in your stomach a lot longer, thus keeping you fuller. That's not to say that you shouldn't eat Greek yogurt, but try to get some meat in for some of your meals, too. I've read that there is a limit to how much protein the body can absorb at one time - I can't remember off-hand, but I think it was 30 or 40 grams, but I also recall that there wasn't really a consensus on this. I have to eat 100+ grams a day because I malabsorb protein (my prealbumin level tanks if I don't get that much), but I spread it out throughout the day.
-
Thank you, I will. I'm making a shopping list right now. I'm going to get PP at Walmart, what kind of protein do I get? BTW, I think I saw Greek yogurt with a ton of protein, does the body have a "limit" of protein intake per meal? THANK YOU so much, I'm at work now, trying to figure this all out! Doing a personal inventory, making lists, checking Walmarts foods (cheaper than our local stores) You're really helping me out with your suggestions, advise. Bless you!

April surgeries?
rhunt05@bellsouth.net replied to Romanoloser's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Today is my last day of the “liquid diet “, tomorrow I will try yogurt, never been so excited to have yogurt. These 2 weeks have been a little tough watching my family eat pizza, cookies and cake literally 🤪 -
I celebrated yogurt like it was my favorite food in the world. What I decided to do was get low fat plain Greek yogurt and I blend in half a banana for sweetener and frozen fruit so I make my own naturally sweetened yogurt as I despise the artificially flavored yogurts.

Wrapping My Brain Around My Post-Op Diet
RickM replied to MrsGamgee's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
As noted above, programs vary all over the place. Quite commonly, "full" liquids frequently include a lot of sloppy mushy foods that don't necessarily fit through a strainer - puddings, yogurt, jello, etc. Go by how your program defines things rather than someone else's (my program just put all the liquids, mushes, purees and other soft things into one phase and we could move around between all of them as our tolerances allowed, so I never got into distinguishing between "full liquids'', purees, soft proteins, etc.) Things like oatmeal, cream of wheat, apple sauce, etc. are classics in the bariatric world and have been a part of early diets for many years, so that is nothing that is going to adversely affect your overall weight loss results; they may not be something that one wants to continue later on, but they do serve a purpose early on when the menu is fairly limited and one is just working to find something that goes down easily, The carbohydrate aspect of some of these foods does have some benefit despite their being contrary to many of the currently popular diets in the mainstream dieting world. They do provide useful energy at a time when we are often sapped for energy in the early post-op days (indeed, I have seen references to some surgeons who specifically want their patients to do some "carb loading" early after surgery for the same reason that marathoners often "carb load" before an event - there's good energy in there. It is not unusual to hear of people reporting that they were dragging and fatigued for weeks after surgery and just chalked it up to it being major surgery - but they were usually the ones who were diligently avoiding "carbs" because that is what one is supposed to do to lose weight (right?) That's not to say that one should be loading up on chips and Twinkies, but have a bit of faith in your program - they have likely been doing this a while and know how things work. Of course, with your diabetic concerns, one needs to be careful, but your RD should be able to work through the appropriate compromises for you. -

Food Before and After Photos

I use stevia. Anything else gives me horrible headaches but I’ve not noticed getting one after the yogurts. I had to cut out my liquid sf coffee creamer because it was giving me them. I’ll have to pay attention after the next yogurt. 🤞🏻 -
Very first puree meal, question

Thanks, Fluffy. I've had success so far with yogurt and pureed refried beans diluted with chicken broth. May try ricotta tonite! No more cream of rice! [emoji39] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Feeing hungry, post op week2
Jobber replied to curtains's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I'm a week into the pureed stage. I have a lot of times what I think is hunger, but it's the dreaded head hunger. My stomach will ache like it's hunger, but I'm sure it's still healing or dealing with the changes I'm giving it. I'm learning to be very careful because even this early on, I'm still finding "slider" foods that are not filling me up. Just yesterday I pureed a can of New England clam chowder and ate the whole 2 cups of it. Since the potatoes and clams are not on my diet yet I felt it necessary to Ninja them up. Instead of the normal 100 calories or so that I'm getting with most pureed meat and veggies, I just got 400 in one sitting since I didn't get full. Other sliders for me have been yogurt, popsicles, and protein shakes. I'm doing good with the purees, though, since I spent a lot of my first week running veggies, fruits and lean meats through the ninja and then used a food saver and froze them all flat. Works well and very healthy. Just have to be careful with other stuff, I'm finding. Good luck to you -
Just going through the initial tests.

Try a diet similar to the liver shrinking pre-op diet you will be on for the VSG. I was on 4.5oz lean protein and 1-2 cups of vegetables OR a premier protein shake 4x a day. No more than 3 servings of fruit or yogurt per day. <50gr carbs daily. After 3 days, I no longer felt hungry all the time and I started losing weight fairly quickly. -
Very first puree meal, question
FluffyChix replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yep. Avoid the grains. Go for yogurt, kefir, ricotta cheese/ricotta cheese bake, soft scrambled eggs (emphasis on soft), custard, protein puddings...and only progress slowly slowly.
