    Fruit

I became a vegetarian 3 mos post op and since then I had pretty much all fruits, veggies and nuts. During my immediate post op once I got to mushies I ate a lot of apple sauce, peaches, nectarines and pears- mostly from a can in light syrup because they were softer- the further out I got I allowed myself a few bites to try- I have found that the fruits that are "sweeter" like grapes tend to cause a bit more diarrhea sooner than a normal BM (TMI) sorry... But watermelon was a staple for me post op- it was mushy, satisfied my thirst and filled me up- and when you eat fruits and veggies you get plenty of nutrients. Post op becomes a trial and error because often times you cannot eat what you did pre op for various reasons ie- Oranges- the acid KILLS me and I hate it- living in FLA I love to make fresh squeezed orange juice!! and can only have a few sips now but to sit and eat an orange I cannot. I have had the canned mandarine oranges and eaten tangerines and perhaps it's the size of the fruit but they go better with my tummy. I have made fruit salads and incorporated the "difficult" fruit in it so that I can enjoy it but not as a whole but rather just a few bites... Good luck!!
  2. Got my 2nd fill last week and definally have restriction now! Well, my grandfather is in the hospital and between work and visits, no time to eat! I was starving! Well...I are too fast and .I got stuck! It hurt soooooo bad! I kept having to spit! I thought I was going to throw up ! Eventually it went down. I did spit up/threw up the tea I drank to try and get it down mixed with some plemn (sorry-tmi). Anyway, while I feel better, I don't feel right! My throat and chest kind of hurts! Is this normal? Not bad, but not right eithe! Ughhh!!!

    Unbelievable

I told my doctor at my 3 month visit that I was feeling like something was getting stuck and I'd sometimes have food come back up,,not vomit (sorry tmi). I also had trouble with swallowing,,which I have myasthenia gravis which causes muscle weakness and swallowing is a big issue for myasthenics so we thought it was due to that. I saw my neurologist and they changed up my meds. But I just kept feeling the same feelings so I told them (bariatric doc) that I was still having the swallowing issues,,feeling like something was stuck and sometimes food coming up..I even thought it was just normal that maybe I was overeating or eating too fast which I do sometimes,,not on purpose. So they ordered an upper gi,,I just heard the results today and they said there was a stricture,,a slight tightening at the opening of the stomach and doc wanted to do an EGD. I'm sure he wants to see everything up close and personal and decide if I need the balloon treatment,,which is the next step. This is not related to me leak..I've had a swallowing problem for several years due to mg but this seperate issue just over the past few months. Sorry,,I'm so not good at explaining things.lol
  4. Well, ended up in urgent care last night followed by the er... Without getting into tmi, it was NOT gas :-/. Anyway, had full work up (CT, X-rays, ultrasound) and all is well with the band. Thanks to the great staff at DRH (you guys rock, and addressed my crippling pain first!). Went to Walgreens and got chewable flintstones with iron rather than the sizable costco style I had been taking (flintstones are more complete as well). Thanks to my LBT CREW for all your comments! Gonna work on my fluid intake as well, heard you all loud and clear!

Vomiting Undigested Food In The Morning?

I think it may just be that some of those fibrous foods just aren't making it through the band. I've had the band for 4 years, and I also just go ahead and pb rather than suffer through the pain. I'm stll trying to figure out what I can and can't eat--and it changes! Sometimes I can eat a food just fine and have no problems and then on other days it just won't go down. I think there are many variables involved. One thing I do know though Is that it's not uncommon for 90% of the food to go down just fine with the other 10% not going down so well. For example, popcorn will go down just fine--except got the kernel husks. Hours later I'll be in pain, go pb and all that comes up is kernel husks (sorry for TMI). I've nicknamed it the "sieve effect"--the little bits go down but the bigger (more fibrous?) bits don't and must come up. I haven't decided if that means I can't eat popcorn--though I don't like the "sieve effect" so I generally stay away from popcorn anymore. Maybe you're experiencing the "sieve effect"? 6. First thing I want to say is, the surgery is not for the faint of heart. I've had 2 c-sections, and gallbladder removal surgery so I kind of knew what I was getting in to. If you've never had surgery just be prepared, there is quite a bit of pain in your abdomen, and the worst is geting up out of the bed every time you go to the restroom, which is very frequently since they are giving you fluids through an IV. So, put on your Brave face and tackle it head on, you can do this!! I arrived at the hospital Wednesday at 5:30am and things started happening very quickly. I got called back, changed into gown, and people started coming in, anesthesia team, nurses, and surgeon. They started my IV and gave me fluids and tylenol through IV. I vaguely remember being wheeled to the operating room, I remember one of the doctors asking if I'd like some chapstick on, and I said yes, and he rubbed some onto my lips with gauze, I thought that was very thoughtful. Next thing I knew I was barely waking up in recovery and in pain! I remember moaning and saying "it hurts, it hurts" and the nurse said they were starting in on my Dilautid drip, and I said "will it get better the more I have because it still hurts!" and she said yes. I vaguely remember being wheeled to my room, where my husband was waiting for me, and I pretty much slept the rest of the day. My mouth was dry as cotten and the nurse said usually no ice chips, but she'd call the dr. to see if I could have some. I had a few ice chips after that and a few more before bedtime. My husband left to go home for the night. I woke up at 2am puking my guts up, then dry heaving. Let me tell you, It hurts to vomit and dry heave with a stomach that was just cut open! I frantically called the nurse and they came in and gave me some phenegren, then changed the sheets, and my gown, wiped my neck and hair down (yes it had gotten everywhere!) I know you're thinking what was there in your stomach to even throw up? Well, it was bile, the dark brown stuff. *sorry if TMI* The next day went better, started me on Clear liquids, could hardly sip anything. By the end of the day I had eaten a few bites of chicken broth, and a sugar free popsicle, and a few sips of crystal light. Nurses kept me on zophran for nausea during the day and dilautid pump for pain. I pushed the pump every 10minutes to keep my pain under control. I started running a low grade fever that evening 100.5. the doctor did not want to treat it, said it was normal due to the surgery and it would go away on its own. He was right, it steadily went down every couple hours, the next morning it was 99.9 then midday, it was 98.5, so it went away by itself. That night was uneventful, I could pretty much get out of bed (without using my abs) on my own and go to the restroom. Just warnig you, you will be peeing A LOT!! from the iv fluids they give you. The next morning was Friday and by then I could walk around the floor with very little problems, still pumping the dilautid drip every 10 minutes. It was wonderful that I had a friend there doing the same surgery so we'd visit each others room, and walk laps together, truly truly a blessing to have her there, and we just met at pre-op visit! The doctor made his rounds at about 12:30pm and we got the ball rolling on discharging me. We left the hospital at about 2pm. By the way, they took me off the dilauted around 12:30 and gave me liquid Lortab (vicodin) and it made me loopy! I felt drunk the rest of the day. I am still taking it though, and do not feel that "drunk" feeling anymore. Today is Saturday, I am in great spirits, sipping VERY slowly on Atkins drinks and crystal light lemonade. and walking laps around my living room. The main thing I want people to know (who haven't had the surgery yet) is to be BRAVE, COURAGEOUS and put on your fighting face, because you CAN do this, YES, you will have pain, but it is so very worth it! I wouldn't take it back for a second! Thanks for listening, so if it was too long

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

BirdAlert, Follow your gut! I also did not do well with my prediet. Only lost about 12 lbs in a year. I just kept putting it off. I did the 10 day liquid diet but struggled with it so much that I considered giving up. In fact some people on another forum when they read a post I put out about struggling suggested that I wasn't committed and should probably wait until I was ready. I am so glad I did not listen to them! I had my surgery on July 2nd. I weighed 248 on the day of surgery and 235 this morning. I am doing great. I am drinking my protein, eating a little (of the right things), walking every day, not nauseous, haven't thrown up, pooping regularly (tmi?) and very, very happy that I did this. You are going to do fine!

    Sorry, Tmi

I have a stomach bug, my second since my WLS (Dec '12). I think I have figured out why throwing up from this is way worse than from eating too much. This is food already past the band trying to come up, and it hurts trying to force its way through! It took me six incredily painful dry heaves to finally get something up. It wasn't even that much, but enough that it hurt like a you-know-what! If anyone has any suggestions for what I should be doing during this time (other than avoiding foods and resting), please, please let me know. I feel HORRIBLE right now!

    Help!!

I'm almost 3 months postop, not at restriction, 3rd fill is next week. I've been feeling fatigued and some dizziness when standing for a few weeks now. My doc ordered every blood test out there and everything came back fine. I don't think my symptoms are as severe as yours but they are telling me to drink more water too. The quote I got was, "not enough water makes you feel like a wet dishrag". Agreed. Today I peed like every other hour and it's very pale (TMI sorry) whereas before this week I peed a few times a day and it was amber. Does this sound like you? I've never had hydration issues before, it's frustrating.

    Question Everyone?

When my sleeve doesn't like something, for me refined sugar too quickly and too much, I get a stomach cramp and feel hot and sweaty and almost sick. Then off to the bano I go! Some people dump, some people just get sick. Sometimes nothing happens until later. TMI -- I ate lettuce the other day for the first time and everything was fine until I had a BM. It wasn't digested at all.
  11. TMI I know, but i think 99% of this board knows what I mean

    Constipation

If you can pinpoint why you aren't going it might help you. This is way tmi, but I had developed hemorrhoids and a fissure and the physical pain and bleeding that came with pooping made me constipated. I was getting enough food IN to make a bowel movement, but I needed my stools to be softer and waterier, so the Miralax was the perfect soluction. It was overnight and gentle, an osmotic laxative that was just want I needed. If you need to "bulk up" your stool you will need something different, or if you if just need an extra "push" then something else might work better. I have done my research on this topic because I was so desperate. I had another thread about laxatives that might help. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/44216-are-all-laxatives-created-equal/page__hl__laxatives__fromsearch__1

    Plane Flight Home

I am 6 wks post op... had 2 flights to home ( left 8AM arrived 11PM) so long day. I was worried but did great! Like others said... had G2 now for TMI comment -- ( which was glad I did since I had my first BM that AM and needed the G2) And also got aisle seat. Due to longer day/flight I packed shaker bottle and Syntrax nectar but never used it. Had Soup in airport w/ friend for meal! I was on full liquids by that day! Also didn't use wheelchair others suggested as I felt like walking when I got the chance!

  20. I just found out I have to a gyn surgery within the next few weeks. Just wondering if any other females have gone thru this and if their surgery dates had to be changed because of it. I have to have an endometrial balloon ablation with a dnc and hysteroscopy. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Hairy

UMMM yeah. Definitely more hair. I have not even been sleeved but have been losing some weight. I can tell an increase in both the testosterone and hair levels. LOL but not kidding. At this rate I may be mistaken for a Sasquatch if I go thru with the sleeve! Seriously though it's not like long and gross or anything just more of it. TMI??

    I Am Ashamed/embarassed

I have seen a lot of pre-op diets and this one seems very restrictive. I am ok eating only veggies or something along those lines, but I don't think I have that option. I wonder if I understand the diet correctly. I was told to come pick up my pre-op diet, and it was boxes of little packets--no instructions. I counted them and divided by 14 days. That was 3 packets a day of 130 calories each.....so I guess it isn't even 500 calories a day. I think it is a bit worse because of the timing (TMI--sorry) around my cycle. I am dropping a ton of pre-period Water weight and that always makes me feel weak. I wonder if I could take some potassium or something. I usually eat a high-potassium food around this time of the month and it really helps with the weakness and dizziness. Did anyone else have a diet that didn't allow anything except 3 packets of pudding or shake mix a day? The more I think about it the more I am beginning to wonder if I am doing this right. Oh--the chicken was boiled breast with no skin and the asparagus was with no butter. I knew I was screwing up and didn't want to go too far.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Tmi, but my top 3 things are: 1) wiping my butt without trying to be a contortionist. 2) shopping in any store I want and wearing pretty clothes, and heels that don't hurt 3) just FEEL BETTER!!! Inside, out, and mentally!!
  24. OMG! THE GAS HAS PASSED! Last night with the advice of walk walk walk. I did and finally went to the bathroom ( TMI) and it exploded. I am soooo happy the gas pains has went away. That was the worst things I have experience so far. Thank you everyone!
  25. Horrible and tmi, but I can't WAIT to have some constipation and be more on the normal side. I go 3+ times a day. IBS, anxiety, and food doesn't agree with me since I was AT LEAST in 2nd grade! So hoping I will go from 3+ per day to every other day! Lol
