I lost 83 pounds my first year. I just had my 2 year anniversary and I am down another 19. Once I hit 100 down last summer I bounced up and down the same 3 pounds, until it was 7 that I gained! I have been trying to stay around 1,000 calories a day for the last 2 weeks and have lost all that I gained and an additional pound.

2 Wks Post Op so looking for a Great Mentor, I'm in MD/VA area
jenncox replied to Lizzeeoc8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lizzee038 I just saw you live in the Hughesville area. I live in La Plata. I'm going through Bluepoint Surgical Group with Dr moazzez. I saw you were looking for a mentor. Well since you already had surgery I can't be your mentor but I just thought I'd say hi since you live nearby. Do you go to the support group at st Mary's Hospital ? It meets the second saturday of the month at 10 am I'm pretty sure. I haven't been to it yet but I'm going to go in September. I'm looking for a mid September approval and a end of October surgery. Get back in touch if you want to. Hope everything's going well for you as you continue to recover .... Jenn -

10 Week Course For Mastering Your Lap Band W/dr. Terry Simpson
B-52 replied to weightshaker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Why do people make this out to be more difficult than it actually is???? My Dr. had a 10 week course (actually a little longer).....starting from the day of surgery....it was regular office visits 4 weeks apart for weigh ins, some Q&A, perhaps a fill..... He made it perfectly clear, having that Yellow-Green-Red Chart on the wall, that that was exactly where he wanted me to be....through a series of visits and fills...... First phase - pre surgery, then then actual day of surgery 2nd Phase....series of office visits and adjustments to get the band properly working as it is designed to do.... 3rd Phase.....go live your new life to it's fullest... -
UHC - how long for a response?
Twinkles replied to Keia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My employer also put in a 6 month, supervised diet qualification that I had to meet, but after I met that, I was submitted on a Wednesday and approved the following Monday. Surgery was scheduled for 10 days later. I was surprised at how quick it was. -
I think my port is next to my belly button!
Dimitri1950 replied to 1bjc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 3/19, and my port is to the left of my belly button also. I had pains from the gas they inflate you with during surgery - it lasted about 4 days post-op. I waited 3 years to get banded - and I am stoked at my weight loss - 30 lbs since I went on the pre-op diet of 1200 calories a day. I am finding that this site is great for support. All the best to you on your new journey. Jim -
What is normal weight loss within first 2-3 weeks
2muchfluff posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. I have not been on here for some months. Personal issues that I will not go into here, but I had my sleeve on 11/29/10. So far I am very happy with the way I feel. I was taking Lasix to get rid of excess fluid pre-surgery, but my dr. did not want me to continue it post surgery. I was alarmed at first, because, of course I started retaining fluid and actually put on 5 lbs, from surgery day through 5 days post op. He was right in his decision, because I would have been dehydrated had I taken it. With that said, after I lost that 5 lbs of fluid plus an additonal 10 lbs during week 2, there has been no further change in weight. On monday I will be 3 weeks post op. I have been getting in 64+ ounces of fluids, getting in all my required 60 grams of protein, walking 1+mile on the treadmill for a week now with no further change. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? -
I was banded 1-19-07
-
i am going to try to make a long story short and get to the point. i was banded october 2007. did fairly well losing, although it was slow. was overfilled late july and had to get a complete unfill. for various reasons i remained unfilled until the 10th of this month. during this time i yo-yo'ed with 10 lbs. it turned out to be more like 10-15lbs when i got to the doctor for the fill. i had an agressive fill. ended up going back a day and half later for a partial unfill. i am "sensitive" to fills now. i feel some restriction. its not wide open like it was for sure. but i am not at a good spot either. plus i cant get my head around or to the spot i need to be at again to really get going back on my journey to my goal weight! i cant find the motivation i once i had. i feel weepy and depressed about it. like i will never get there. and its all of my own making. i keep saying, i will start tomorrow. or monday....and that day comes and i find another flimsy excuse. i know all this...what am i doing? i just need to get back to it. i am gonna schedule another fill for february. anything anyone can offer to get me going would be much appreciated! thanks

surgeon gave little hope for weight loss w/lb
Jodi_620 replied to plh2u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Five months ago I weighed 234 pounds I am now 172 pounds and the weight is still coming off. I have no doubt that by March (less than 10 mos) I will be a total of 97 lbs lighter and at goal. There are plenty of other people here with similar stories. My concern would be whether your doctor will do well with support and after care to make sure you will be successful. If 40-50 pounds is the norm for his patients, then something is wrong somewhere. Does he provide the education, support and proper adjustments needed? Or does he just think that LB is not for you? -
How much to drink while on liquids?
MFM008 replied to j2m1h's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be carefully gentle with your stomach. The nurses had me drinking 1 ounce about every 10 to 15 minutes. Be patient, I'm 11 weeks out and instead of 2 swallows at a time I can drink 4 swallows. Try to stick to Clear Liquids. Carbonation will upset your new stomach for a while. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App -
Hi all! Today I am exactly 10 days post-op and still in the liquid diet phase, I feel good. I am starting to walk, taking my multivitamins and drinking my protein shakes but I am not noticing any weight change on the scale. Is this normal? Sent from my SM-G925W8 using BariatricPal mobile app

Has anyone gained after surgery
cinderella8 replied to Bakergrl214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 10 pounds after surgery. I asked to get on the field during one of my walks around the hospital floor. I was flabbergasted when I saw the extra weight. That came off in about a week and a half. I had my sleeve on 12/5. I've lost 23.7 from my starting weight before surgery. I'm starting to slow down now. I think I need to pick up the exercise a bit more Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How do you get in all you food and work full time? What is your eating schedule
rolosmom7 replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no idea, but I'll post in solidarity. I work 9-10 hours a day. I eat a Protein bar that takes me from 830-10 to consume. I eat a bit of chicken and veggies from the salad bar, and a snack at about 330. Then dinner around 6. I don't eat enough calories or protein. So I'm open to the suggestions that pop up here! -
Congrats! There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel!! I am on day 4 of that diet. My surgeon requires us to stay on it 10 days. I was doing really good and lost 8lbs for far. Keep us posted on your progress!! Good luck and see you at the finish line!!!!

I just realized I don't have pain when I lay in my bed anymore. I slept through the night for the last two nights! I weighed myself one time after surgery (7 days) and lost 16 pounds but after reading about so many people seeing stalls in weight loss after a couple of weeks, I decided to wait until my post surgery appointment to weigh again. I'm anxious but I don't have accurate scales so I think I'm better off just waiting. Gas still sucks and I'm starting to think this is going to be forever. I've tried everything I can think of and everything I've read here. None of it helps much. I took medicine every day of my life for acid reflux before surgery and it always fixed it - Now nothing works. Before the surgery I took a time released sleeping pill every night. That pill doesn't work anymore. I am taking the same medicine but 10 less mg and not time released now. Don't know why that change happened. I have been really tired this week and I think part of it is from going back to work so soon but then again if I sit around at home I have to keep getting up and walking to get rid of the gas so I might as well be at work. I guess I didn't realize until I read this post that I must be feeling a little down. I think I'm feeling confused and anxious because I used to be content to be at home watching tv when I wasn't at work. Now I'm starting to feel less content with sitting at home. Kinda scary - I might have to actually start doing things outside of home for social reasons!

I bought that yesterday. From HSN of all places, I had never bought anything from them before. I should get it on Monday or Tuesday. My son plays on his friends so I'm hoping he can help me understand and set it up. I got my band Nov. 10 and doing just fine. I took the large band which I didn't think I would. Had my first fill on Dec. 10th. Didn't really feel all that different. I was to go on the 23rd, but I'm going to wait till after the christmas holidays. I'm still losing about 2-3 lbs a week which is great for me. I'm down 28lbs. Did the 2-week pre diet and lost most of that. Stick to it as much as you can. I can't lie and tell you that I didn't cheat, because I did twice. My doctor said when he went in my liver looked fine. I really stuck to it the last 5 days. I'm really shocked that he brought you all in as a group. HIPPA laws are pretty strick about people knowing others business. My dr. was wonderful, very understanding. Were are you from? I live in South Louisiana. I only come on line a couple times a week, so if you don't hear from me, I'll catch up.

I felt Hungry!
desertgirl_74 replied to MarceMonster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way for about the first 10 days. I was on 20mg omeprazole twice a day, but still felt hungry all day and even waking during the night. Drinking a little juice or having some broth would help. All the sudden after 10 days or so it just stopped. I haven't felt like that since. (I was on full liquids for nearly a month, so it wasn't solids that made it stop) -
Thanks! My meal plan is to limit carbs to breakfast or lunch but other than that I eat everything. The only real rule I follow is to stop eating the minute I start to feel full. I walk/run for 1 hour three times a week. I wasn't really exercising early on. I am going to get about 10 pounds of excess skin removed from my lower abdomen later this month thats been hindering my running. I am hoping to increase my workouts once I'm all healed.

I was thinking about the same thing so...we did our taxes. I had tons of mileage (100 miles each visit about once a week), copays, medications etc. In order to deduct medical it has to exceed 10% of your total income. It use to be 7.5% but with recent changes (no comment) it was increased pretty significantly. So if you made $50,000 this year your costs must exceed $5000. As far as writing off shakes and supplements typically if your Dr. writes you a script and you keep receipts you've got a good shot at writing it off. Also this year medical mileage is worth .17cents a mile if I'm not mistaken. I always keep my receipts but I have only been able to write off medical one tax year due to unforeseen huge dental expenses that year. You may already know this but many pharmacies are able to make a printout for individual patients and what they paid in prescriptions for the year. I hope this helps. ????
