  1. I need a good swim suit. I have larger breasts that need support and I need tummy control. I am am close to 5 feet tall and in a 10-12. I need some suggestions. !!!
  2. I had been having a really tough time since my surgery (Oct 19th) with nausea, grogginess, and dizziness. At my check up yesterday, the surgeon suggested getting off of the pain killer I had been prescribed (roxacet) and replace it with chewable tylenol. Wow! I feel like a new woman! The side effects from the narcotics were worse than the actual pain. So glad we did that change I start flying back home to the Yukon tomorrow. It has been a good 10 days with my out of country surgery experience here in Washington. I am looking forward to being back home with my children and the snow that is already on the ground. I am ready to hibernate for winter. I was already down 10lbs in the five days post surgery. Not too shabby!

    5 Weeks Out...still Adjusting

It sounds like you're on the right track, both nutritionally and mentally. I had to eat between 800-900 calories a day to lose and now in maintenance I'm between 1200-1400 a day. Only you are going to know how much you can eat and still lose, so log your food and pay attention. Even the doctor and nutritionist are going off of guidelines that don't consider what works for your particular body. Some folks need more and some need less. Until you heal completely, I wouldn't worry too much in any case. Just focus on pushing liquids, staying hydrated and getting as much Protein as possible. The rest will follow. I'm 19 months out and eating more than one egg scrambled with cheese in a sitting is tough. I do 2-3 ounces of protein if it's fish or chicken but if it's beef I manage even less. I don't have a lot of protein options where I live so I tend to make up the slack with protein coffee or tea in the morning. I like to see my protein levels at 90+ grams a day. Congrats on putting away the scale. It's hard to do. Once you get to the point where your realize that you won't see a loss every time, and that the scale is simply a tool to keep us accountable and NOT a measure of our success you'll be able to weigh daily without driving yourself nuts. Until then it just makes life a rollercoaster. You're doing great so far. Don't stress about the food. I didn't start really hitting my calorie/protein goals until 4-6 months out. ~Cheri
  4. So I am fairly new to this process- banded 2 months but have a band that doesn't have much in it- 2.8 cc (10 cc band). So my dr is very gradually filling me. I had a fill on Monday and am now having a new experience- if I swallow too big of a bite (because I am hungry, because it tastes really good, or because I am not paying attention) I get a 10 second pain in my upper chest and it passes. Is this considered being "stuck" or does a stuck episode last longer- I have always heard it as being described as 15 min. of pain. Is this a good sign that I am moving closer to restriction or just a sign that I am not chewing and eating slow enough. Part of me is hoping for an agressive fill in two weeks but I am wondering if I should be extra conservative because of this new experience.

    8 months out...

I think this last fill brought me to the sweet spot. I am now at 8.3 in a 10 cc band and I have been losing steadily for a month without any exersize. (Bad...I know). I have been working at last 14 hour days and I really haven't had a few minutes to even think about it...plus it's already almost 100 degrees every day here which isn't particularly motivating for a nice sweaty walk at lunch time. I have been watching my carb intake and am making sure I'm getting my protein although I was definitely slacking in March and April on the protein. I made a new mix which is almonds, shelled pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, white and dark chocolate chips, and a few other nuts and mixed up in a huge batch. Then split up into bags and put one every where I spend time so that I can snack on something high protein and fiber and relatively low in carbs. (keep the number of choc chips and dried fruit to about 1/4 to 1/5 of the total mix. This helps me stay away from the bad stuff. I am 9 pounds away from wonderland and I can't wait. Just cleared out another 50 pounds of clothes that don't fit me from the closet. IT's crazy! I find myself wanting to talk about my weight loss and most people just give me a crazy look. I realize that they don't care but I do!
  6. Congrats John! That's exciting news!! I'm finally ditching my band after 10 years in May!! I had prolapse issues twice. I chose to unfill and refill once, but once it happened again, I decided I was done. I haven't had much success at all since replacing my band in 2006. I think you made a wonderful choice. The reality is, you would likely end up anyway, as prolapse generally becomes a repetitive problem!! Have you discussed a surgery date yet?! There are quite a few band to sleeve revisions around here and I have yet to hear one person say they didn't have more success and feel better after revising!!

    March 28

Tuesday 198.5!!! Yesterday was my 5 month anniversary and I am down 30 lbs! I am thrilled!! I have refused to compare my loss to anyone elses, I am losing at the rate I lose at! I have consistently lost about 6 lbs a month. I have so many NSV's I cant begin to list them, but I need to...just to look back at. 30 lbs has made a HUGE difference on my body, especially from the waist up. 1. My waist is SIX inches smaller. 2. Ribcage under my bra is FIVE inches smaller....36 inches and one inch smaller than my waist!! Goodbye back fat. 3. My arm at the bicep is only 12.5 inches, ! 4. From size 20W pants to size 16 and 18.....16-18 misses, not W!!!! 5. My boobs stick out farther than tummy...no longer look 5mo pregnant. 6. There is not ONE coworker, friend, family that has not noticed and commented on the weight loss (and I am still in the closet with banding) 7. First time under 200 in about 4 years. 8. My face is getting thin enough I am starting to feel really pretty again. 9. I feel 'heavy/normal' and not huge, bloated, puffy 10. My ankles never ever get edema anymore. 11. I have zero nighttime reflux anymore. 12. My DH says it is like having sex with a different woman because he can FEEl such a difference in my body. 14. My back is completely smooth. No roll above waistband or around bra. 15. Blood sugar stays very stable (thanks to no bread, lmao) 16. OFF BP medicine....was only borderline and now normal. 17. Gone from (bust, waist, hip) 48.5,43,51 to 46.5(-2),37(-6),47(-4)......big fat gut is so much more in portortion now, hell! its gone!!!...maybe that is why everyone notices I have lost weight. My shape is still big but back to being very shapely now. I could keep going but these are the major ones....in no particular order.
  8. Maybe I'm doing to much researching about this procedure because now I'm reading about the studies they are doing about people who are having bad complications after 7+ years of having the band....a lot of erosion issues etc. Has anyone's doctor discussed this with them? Has anyone else read about this? I'm driving myself crazy aren't I? The purpose of me getting the surgery is so that I'm healthy and active 10, 20, 30 years down the road, not opening myself up to more complications like stomach erosion?????? How is everyone doing if you have had your band for more than 5 years? I need to get off the internet but I'm really trying to be as informed as possible before I stick out my arm for the happy-go-to-sleep medicine.
  9. 10 days Post-Op and still on liquid. I notice if I drink more than three swallows of my protein shake or creamy soup I get a discomfort as it goes down or rather settles into my stomach like a sensation that feels like gas build up and the soup or drink is trying to get through and then creates a pressure that pushes it up so I feel this constriction and then need to burp to relieve the pressure is the best way to describe it. I swallow two or three spoonful's of soup as an example then wait about 20 minutes before attempting more. Am I eating too many bites at once? Has anyone else had this feeling and or is it normal and passes with continued healing? Just thinking this will be a miserable existence if this is what I experience for the remainder of my life while trying to take in nutrition at every meal. Anyone?
  10. So I haven't been on here for a while but had to share with others my experiences with the gastric sleeve. I had my surgery on April 12, 2016 the first 6-8 weeks it was going great some vomiting here and there while getting used to the new ways of life. Then the now and then became more and more frequent til I was vomiting daily. I this was not right so I had a long talk with the doctor he told me he was thinking i had a kink in the sleeve and sent me to a gastroenterologist. This doctor was sure it was a kink and scheduled me for a Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD on August 12, 2016. The EGD went well for about 2 weeks than slowly I started vomiting again more and more, back to the doctor then to get another EGD on October 20, 2016. This time it seemed to do the job by the end of January I was doing good than the beginning of February the vomiting started again back to the doctor and April 25, 2017 EGD #3. I knew it linked again by may but I was sick of it so I decided to stick it out, BAD MOVE on July 27, 2017 I was rushed to the emergency room with Severe dehydration because I couldn't keep anything even ice down. July 29,2017 EGD #4. After that one I could tell it wasn't going to be long be i was back there and i was right November 8, 2017 I went in for EGD #5. After that last one it was a 100% different feeling not for the good but I pushed through and waited it out. I went in for my 2 year post OP appointment on April 10, 2018 (2 days before my 2 year) and doc was not happy to hear I am scheduled for my 6th EGD on May 10, 2018 so after looking at my labs and my upper GI from January I was told that my body is basically like rejecting my sleeve and my new lifestyle I have to live. So now i am waiting for a call from the doctor to start my new journey of having a gastric bypass done on my sleeve (revision) before I could think of what I should say I started crying and repeating "Why on earth did I do this to myself. I regret ever having this damn surgery". She calmed me as much as she could and now I'm waiting for this all to begin. When I was 18 months post OP my OBGYN gave me the go ahead to try for a baby. We decided to wait a little longer because he was working out of state. Now that he's back and we want to start a family I am told that I can't for another couple years. My life is crumbling and I am so disappointed that I can't start the family my boyfriend wants I'm even considering telling him to leave me and find someone that isn't a broken mess.

    I'm So Excited! 10/14

:smile:Dr. Ganta in Austin, TX. A new start for me. Is there any more bander's on Oct 14. If so, stand up and make some noise, we only have 9 more days to go!!!!!
  12. I did the preop liquid diet for over two weeks and it went ok. I didn't cheat, just kept focused on the prize and did fine. I had surgery 10/27/09 and will be on this same liquid diet for 4 weeks. But I really am not that hungry right now, just trying to get the water and vitamins in along with the other liquids. You can do it! Jan:thumbup:
  13. Hello I am fairly new to this forum. I joined about about three weeks ago in search of more information about the VSG and about Dr. Aceves and I have found that and much more. The people on here are very supportive of one another and provide great incite on the vsg experience. Let me tell you a little bit about me. Im a 23 yo nurse that resides in florida. I have been overweight since elementary school. Throughout my whole life I allowed my weight to hinder me in so many aspects of my life. When I eventually went off to college, the situation only got worse. I ate junk food on a regular basis and was very sedentary, with the exception of work and school. I stayed home all day. I went from 280lbs to 365lbs within the span of two years. I was finally fed up with my self and my self esteem took a dive too. My epiphany moment happened when I was looking through my camera and I realized that there were barely any pictures of me on there and the ones that were there I was disgusted with. So finallly I decided to do something about it. In January of 2008, I started my weight loss journey. I changed my eating habits and started to excercise. Surprisingly I lost 120lb through diet and exercise alone that year. But this last year has been much different. I can lose weight but I have a hard time keeping it off and staying motivated. My main problem is once I start eating, I can't stop until Im full. Over the past year I have losed and gained the same 10 pounds. And I am tired of it. 233 pounds has been my lowest weight and I am currently 265lbs. I have come to far to come back to 365 lbs. Im ready for a change so I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Aceves for August 1st.

  17. I agree with other posters that you should quit smoking immediately. Not only is smoking going to increase your risk of having the complications mentioned, but it is going to hinder your body's ability to heal quickly and correctly. I would also start walking at least 30 minutes per day now, and drinking tons of water. You want to build up lung capacity, and start getting into shape. I was already working out 6-8X per week before surgery, and everything was super easy for me. I could have returned to work after 2 days. I smoked for 10 years, and I understand how stress makes you grab for that cigarette. Don't do it though. You are doing this for your health, so why not make a complete change starting tomorrow? You can do this, and will be better off for it. Good luck to you.

Okay, so hopefully I am doing this right since it is a new thread. I am less than four weeks away from my bandiversary. I am 50 pounds down and would still like to lose 30 pounds. I will get another fill after next week since I have not lost any weight since early March. I was slightly unfilled in April after being uncomfortable for 2 months but I think I need to learn to adjust to it. I will likely have to have knee surgery on my other knee in the next three weeks since I believe I tore the meniscus on my left knee. This will put a damper on my exercise plans for the next 6 weeks since I won't be able to do that much. Thank goodness the right knee which was operated on last October is just fine. We just came back from vacation - Viriginia, Maryland and DC and I did just great. We walked, hiked and rode horses for over 2 hours - none of which I could have done last summer. No pain whatsoever, and my back felt great. I felt 10 years younger and such freedom! However, one morning I woke up and felt a swelling on the back of my left knee and that is when I knew I had injured it, but it didn't hurt much and I was still able to go all over. I love how I look in clothes and folks tell me I look like I only need to lose about 15 pounds but I want to keep on going. I remember Dr. Spivak told me to expect 18 months to lose the weight and that in all to only expect to lose about 40 pounds so I feel I am really ahead of the curve. I would do this all over again in a heartbeat just to have my life and health back. Hope everyone else is doing well. Robin

Hey ya'll, Robin I know what you mean. I'm right behind you on anniv. date (08/07/06 was my date). As of today I have lost 66 pounds!:whoo:I am only 20 pounds from my goal weight. I hasn't been easy though. I have my moments when I would just love to pig out like I used to. I have to refocus and have a cry or get mad. I now make myself actually feel my emotions instead of stuffing food to suppress them. It took me a year to get here and a lot of soul searching. Not a whole lot of support except for ya'll, my hubby & kids. I did go through a period of not losing but I made myself write down what I was eating & that was what made the difference. I now am wearing a 12! I can get a 10 on but it is still very tight! I thank you all for the support and let's be there for each other!

Eight weeks out and second fill

I've never blogged before and thought I would start to record my journey. We'll see how long it lasts. :crying: I had my second fill today. Now I have a total of 4.7 cc in a 10 cc band. I feel better than I did last time. I got 3.3 cc last time and I felt really tight and uncomfortable for a couple of days. I'm being good and doing the liquid thing. I lost 4.5 pounds this month (actually lost 6, but had a small gain). The good news is that everything looks good, so I'm doing the right things. I know I should be happy with 20 pounds gone and I am, but I wish it would come off just a little faster. It's summer and I have to go swimsuit shopping soon. Another 10 pounds off would make it a little easier. I'm just feeling sorry for myself today. I should be telling myself to get my butt on the treadmill today since I haven't been on in a couple of days. No more pity party today. I'm doing great. I'm blessed to have been able to get the band and that I have a wonderful support system. I'll be taking my measurements later today and taking another "after" pic. I do that every time I get a fill. I need to set another short term goal to get me going. I'll decide on that today as well.
  21. I'm only 2 months out myself so can't speak from experience, but I want to throw the "it could be muscle gain" hat into the ring. You said yourself that you are doing a lot more walking and so maybe your calves are building up. Also I know you said you weigh yourself daily but I cannot stress enough how bad that is to do. Once a week is plenty, just make it the same time of day (should be first thing before you consume breakfast), and same clothing ideally. There will be single days in anyone's life no matter the circumstances where they weigh a little bit more than the day before, you need to not focus on it. It'll drive you crazy otherwise, I'm sure it's nothing. Sent from my HTC 10 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I took me a while to finally come back to this site. Like many others i tried to focus on my weight loss and did not have the time to keep coming back. I am happy to say I've lost 175 Ibs. It was not easy. Changed everything about me. Food, exercise, friends, hobbies and many other things. When we decide to get a lap band. We never think or k ow the real consequences that will follow. Would i do it again? 10 out of 10 the answer is Yes. Its a azing what weight loss can change in a person. I am sure that all of us have a story to tell, but in my experience it was not easy. It was far from easy. I will update photos and perhaps a video of some of my workouts, food, and hobbies soon. This will give you a better idea of what i mean.
  23. Shell! Thank you for that!! You made me feel a lot better about meeting with Dr. Baggs on the 28th. Do you feel like there is anything you WISH you would've asked at the initial consultation? I have heard that the process goes very quickly with them! How much weight did you have to lose (10%?) I'd love any info from you! I see you have lost SO MUCH weight! Have a blessed day! sarah flagstaffian
  24. Hi everyone, I am new to this. I began my journey towards a bariatric sleeve in Jan, but stopped going to the nutritionist in March. So, I have started all over. I have already completed my cardiology clearance, got my blood work done, and my 1st nutritionist appointment done down also. Today I did my upper GI scan and it makes me so excited that I am getting closer to my surgery. I have so many questions and watch so many videos on YouTube. I only need to do my pulmonary exam and psych, then 5 more appointments for nutrition which are scheduled 3 weeks apart. I have state insurance and they require 6 consecutive visits. But, my worry is that I complete my appointments and don't lose any weight or get denied. Since March I gained 10 pounds. I am drinking water, which I don't usually do, keeping a journal of my intake of food, high protein low carb, stopped grazing... any tips? Anyone go through state medicaid for sx? Any bumps in the road with weight?

    First fill unbelievably awful

I really liked my doctor and was so disappointed with everything. I went Monday for my first fill and was very excited! The Dr. would only insert 1 cc/per visit this is going to take forever to have restriction.$200/per visit. Then best of all he uses a reg needle and I question him re: using a Huber non coring needle to access ports and he said that this needle is fine!! I said that I would provide the Huber needle for him and he stated that he would not use it! I question myself re knowledge so went along with it since he is the Dr. he would know and he has been doing this for 5 yrs. After 10 attempts to access the port he said that he did??? I really don't mind the 10 x's but using the wrong needle I have a problem with!! I then returned home and question Allergan the maker of the band re: the proper needle.( I wanted him to be right because I didn't want to think that a dr. doing this surgery and fills would put $ first Huber needles are much more expensive) They took me to their website and sure enough there it is in black and white only to use a Huber needle. They said that they would send the sales rep to speak to him???!!! ( a sales rep that is my point also, like he is going tell him) I feel very disappointed in the fact that I am a self pay $10,000 and they will only give me 1cc/per fill I wanted to be thin by my 40th B-day (April) That I had said from the beginning before the surgery to him. I don't see that happening with 1 cc a month. Then best of all I am putting my health at risk with the Dr. using the wrong needle. The port could core out!! I then would require another surgery. I should have waited until I finished school and my health insurance would cover the surgery but then again it was a gift to myself for my 40th! Now I feel stuck I guess I will have to see what happens at the next appointment. I will NOT LET him access my port unless he uses the Huber. I also printed out the info from Allergan to show him. Now how will he feel with me ?? How do I feel with him??????????????? Did he do damage to my port??????? If he refuses to to use the proper needle I will wait until I have a job with the insurance and try to find another surgeon, that I hear is very difficult. I guess this is what happens when you go to a plastic surgery center that advertises on the radio every hour for LAP-BAND® surgery!!!! I did my check on the surgeon before the surgery and found nothing negative. I just wonder what else do they do to save money that puts me at risk???? All I have to say is WOW!!!!!!
