I was hoping for 2:30 but I sorta remember it as 4:30pm........... So I might not be there so don't worry abou the vegetarian thing for me. I am good at finding things to eat even with meat around...............I grew up with a dad who ate meat so I know how to be creative!! Can you remind me of the time??

I'm not censoring anything, I am honest with Liz and Robin and I'm still a rockstar. And I'm vegetarian too so thats not it Tina!! I think Nicole was right, Liz was referring to others who have joined in with us on occasion but aren't part of our little superstar band - like folks who were at our fill but not willing to be in support groups, stuff like that. Girls, I am full. Ahhhhhh. I had a small salad with 2 oz. of cheese and a few imitation bacon bits - calorie-free Walden Farms dressing, under 200 calories all together - and I am full. FULL! I only had berries for breakfast and I was not even hungry when I ate the salad, I just did because it was time and I have a bunch of errands to run this afternoon, did not want to chace getting hungry while running around and ending up grabbing a less-healthy option. I am getting about 4 to 4.5 hours after a mini-meal before I get hungry again. And zero PB, zero stuck, zero slime, zero issues at all! THIS IS IT!!!! So happy :smile2: Also very proud of myself today, I did 8.5 miles by 11:30 this morning! My day just goes so much better when I get my miles in And now it sounds like Jes is gettin' hooked on walking too, yay! Jes they all think I'm crazy, tell them how great it feels!!! Doin' errands - c u later!
  4. Hey Ladies Oh I figure Liz and who knows who else is reading this forum............we are all honest and that probably is what she was talking about. We mess up and have to start over the next day. But we are honest about it. I am the vegetarian so I figured it was me and my not getting enough meat protien she was talking about. Ya know doing my own thing!! LOL. Who know but I find that comment a bit rude to be honest? I would have asked her exactly what that meant if I was there. I woulda bugged me.................. I don't think however we should censor what we say we are all honest here................ I do know at orientation Robin and Liz did say not to believe everything you hear or read in books or online........they said some of what is out there is not true and or not good info..............

  6. ~sigh, I know I should not worry about this question either, but I do!! Too many years of following south beach, plus my support groups are all about the low-carb thing - but they are mostly RNY also, maybe that makes a difference. I do log everything in caloriecount.about.com and it works for me. I get 70 to 80 grams of carbs a day, but I also aim for at least 30 grams of Fiber so make that 40 to 50 net grams of carbs. That's low enough for me to lose at a good healthy pace but still feed my essential body functions, which you must have carbs for your body to use or it will use lean muscle and we don't want that! I can't do gluten so bread products are out for me, and rice is out per my lap-band program, and milk is out due to lactose & whey intolerence SO I get all of my carbs from fresh fruit (I mostly eat berries for the high fiber) in the a.m., vegies, unsweetened soy milk and an occasional few bites of potato or sweet potato (potatoes are a trigger food for me so I avoid them most of the time). Sometimes quinoa, maybe once a week or so. I very rarely eat processed foods and feel lousy when I do (listen to Jachut!) I am also vegetarian so I get a few carbs from the soy meat analogs and tofu products that I consume every day (I usually get 80 grams or more of Protein, don't need meat to do that!). My nutritionist always says protein first, followed by fruit or veggie, starches last and if you never do get to the starches that's just fine with her! I follow her advice and it works for me
  7. So I just finished three weeks - and I am excited to say I am eating out.... This past week I have had to eat out for work and I am so happy to report - it was awesome: Romano's macaroni Grill - thought it would be torture - NOPE chicken Toscana Soup - 1 cup 220 calories - 13g of Protein ! DELISH! Baja Fresh - Cup of Tortilla Soup - 300 calories - 11g of protein - awesome! Soup Plantation - Vegetarian Chili - perfect! And I'm still losing weight without being a social pariah. If you have favorite dishes at some restaurants - please post them here - my boyfriend is a 6 foot tall marathon runner who weighs 150 and loves to eat out - I am so glad to know - I don't have to eat in solitude! Yeah BABY! :scared2::tt1: supermom

    Seriously curious

What kind of brain-dead idiot are you? Michael Jackson was a vegetarian. Your post is an insult to those who love him and miss him. Shame!! TPG
  9. I have IBS. Constipation, for years, has been a problem for me. I used to take stool softeners every night. I dreaded going to the bathroom. Even w/the stool softeners, it was still painful. In Dec I decided to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle. I am not suggesting you change your lifestyle. However, you may want to up your fiber. Choose stuff like oatmeal in the tub. Oatmeal is has soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is what pushes stuff through your colon. Up fruits and veggies. They have insoluble fiber, as well. If you drink smoothies, use frozen fruit instead of ice. This way you get nutrition and fiber. Stuff like benefiber is good. But it's Water soluble. Remember to get the stuff w/insoluble fiber, as well. Hope you feel better soonh
  10. sjm1965- i'm so hungry i'm gonna eat my cat! no,really just teasing, i'm a vegetarian! but seriously, this is really hard my diet seems to be really strict compared to others i've seen on here. joking about it seems to help. but think of how awesome it will be to be able to say we licked it! my sister has a saying,"nothing tastes as good as being thin!" we'll find out if it's true! good luck! lisa6

    Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread

I think this would be a good idea. I tried weight watchers meetings. But, between college, work and the hubs time was just hard to make. It became a stressor trying to plan in a meeting. I eventually just said 'screw it.' I lost the material where is shows how to calculate your daily points allotment? Can someone post the calculation? College starts 8/18. On Tuesdays I will be at college from 10 am to 8:30 pm. On Thursdays I'll be there from 10 AM to 2:30, then onto work. I need to find healthy, lunch box friendly foods/snacks. It's a small satellite campus, so there is not a student lounge w/a microwave. Everything will have to survive the Southern heat in my car. Ice packs only last so long when the heat index outside of the car is 106* I know I could use some ideas/support. I'm a vegetarian. I will never lecture anyone for eating meat. I've meat some radical vegetarians that have told me I should divorce my hubs because he chooses to eat meat. It's like, hellloooo, get a life. Ok, it's the end of the day, I'm tired and babbeling. Looking forward to this thread

High Fiber Foods - Bad for the Band?

My doc's nutritionist freaked when she found out I'm a vegetarian. She immediately told me to stay away from pineapple and celery because they can be 'stringy.' She did admit at our post-op meeting that I'm the only vegetarian they've ever had. I love pineapple and sometimes put in in my daily Protein smoothie. With celery, the problem is the strings, they worry about it somehow getting entangled in the band. As long as you chew, there shouldn't be a problem. You can also de-string celery, which I do if I'm eating celery raw. I did this before the band, as well. I hate those strings A celery recipe is a snap to create from scratch!
  13. Hi Jackie, I'm finding the low fat diet ok, have had the occasional slip-up but nothing major. I am taking the milk thistle tablets when i remember!!! I didn't get a diet plan to follow but i am vegetarian so most of them don't suit me anyway. How are you feeling?x

    Had my first fill today...

WEll, I had my first fill today and it wasn't too traumatic. I was laying down and the PA was finding my port as I "stuck my stomach out". These were my instructions and I realized that I don't think I'd EVER tried to do that! It was an odd feeling...then a little pinch and I was being filled. I have a 9 cc band and I was scheduled for 4 cc's today. As it was going in I felt a LOT of pressure in my chest so the PA removed what she had put in and realized that I actually already HAD 4 cc's in my band (I guess from something called "flushing" during surgery...I'll need to investigate that a bit more)...So I only got 1 cc today and feel a tiny bit more restriction. All in all, I'm a bit worried that I had 4 cc's already and I'm as hungry as I am and can eat "as much" as I am. I've been back and forth to NYC every week for a month for work so have been eating most meals out. I can finish a tuna sandwich and bag of carrots with no trouble and was easily able to eat 2 slices of pizza (a small splurge, and they were small slices). This is FAR less than I would have eaten 2 months ago. I love good pizza and NYC has some great pizza...I used to be able to scarf down 4 slices or so in no time...I nursed my 2 slices with mushroom and spinach and really totally enjoyed every single bite. I definitely appreciate that the band has allowed me to still eat small portions of my favorite foods: sushi, salads, toast with an over easy egg, and now a slice of pizza....It's really forcing me to savor and appreciate my food and not just blindly fill my belly. I'm a vegetarian (well pescatarian, I eat fish) so I had been feeling a tiny bit limited as I need to make sure I get my protein (and I hate tofu)..and the pizza has calmed my cravings. I'm very happy with my progress and I'm hoping that now that I have my first fill I can still enjoy a slice (only one) every now and then!!!!! I should have titled this blog "Pizza" as it really has lifted my spirits as odd as that sounds. I have a new found respect for the food I eat....and I only try to eat "the best"...I went to John's pizza in NYC and I tell you...I think it's one of the BEST!! That's another interesting thing...I will never eat another slice of Domino's again (sorry for those who like it)...I can honestly say that as long as I have my band there will never be another wasted calorie on something I don't love (unless I'm stranded somewhere and my choices are death or Domino's)!!

Heather - 46! OMG! I am so proud of you!!!! You are totally rockin it! Dr. Fisher probably knew that you would respond to a challenge head-on like this :-) Tina if you call Kelly for an unfill appt., tell her you have to come in next Friday with me cause Dr. Baggs needs to take it OUT of your band and put it IN my band! We can do a (very small) group vegetarian nutrition appointment with Robin too! I will have my older son with me but he can only narc on me, he's got nothing on you LOL!!
  17. Hi everyone, I'm 35 yo. I am married, no kids. I live in a small town outside of New Orleans. I go to a satellite campus of a New Orleans community college. There is no cafeteria, microwave etc. I go to school two days a week and I am there ALL day. Tuesdays I'll be there from 10 Am to 8:30 PM. Thursdays will be 10 AM to 2:45 PM. I was banded 6/8. This coming semester will be my first back w/the band. Finding healthy, nutrition-packed Snacks that will stand up to the heat of my car (even in the cooler) is going to be frustrating. Consider the fact that I'm a *vegetarian and things get stickier, LOL. I like my fruit cold, my Protein bars NOT-melted and my Water ice-freaking cold, LOL. I'm glad this thread is here! *Please note I'm a vegetarian for health reasons, not ethical. I am NOT going to lecture anyone for eating meat. Your food choices are you own, as are mine. My hubs is a meat eater, so it doesn't bother me. I sat that because I've met people who find out I'm a vegetarian and they think I'm gonna lecture them for eating a hamburger. NOT my style, LOL.
  18. Well, I have to laugh at this. I'm an obese vegetarian. Yup, we exist. My mother, an overweight vegan. I've heard of the caw 'fart-tax.' This is where legislators want to measure and tax the amount of gas a cow farts. Because theirs farts contain methane and other gasses. It's being pushed as 'going green.' They didn't even research enough to find out the cows belch these gasses, not fart. I've recently seen commercials on tv about how eating a vegetarian lifestyle is good for the earth. Let me say right now that I became vegtarian for health reasons. NOT ethial or 'green' reasons. My point to all this, since carnivores contribute to the greenhouse effect be keeping the demand of farming, lets put a 'fart tax' on ALL animals farmed for onsumption. Then, since animal fats (saturated fats) are a major contributer towards clogged arteries, lets put a 'health tax' on all animal products sold, from butter to veal. Maybe, when we go to the doctors, there should be a 'carnivore tax' to offset heath costs. Once the government starts taxing 'this' what is to keep them from taxing 'that'. It's rediculous! An artical on the 'fart tax' I just googled it and grabbed an artical at random to post here Congressman Warns of 'Cow Fart' Tax Causing Beef and Dairy to 'Disappear' from Supermarkets

    Frozen Dinners?

I'm a vegetarian and the hubs is not. I work full-time and go to college full-time. We probably eat frozen dinners 3 nights a week because I'm either to tired to cook or just don't have the time. Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine now have low-sodium and low-fat options. And lucky for me, both are now making vegetarian dinners. Of course, hubs wants meat in his, lol. I'd suggest that you read the labels for sodium, calories, fat (including saturated fat), sugar and fiber. I've picked up some that look good and healthy. But, when I looked at the nutrition thing on the box it became clear that what looked good was practically a frozen 'heart attack in a box.' If you like butternut squash, try Lean Cuisine's Butternut Squash ravioli. It's one of my favorites.

    Post Op Foods, Phase 3

Is Tuna part of mushies? I didn't think so, I was afraid, but definitely craving it! I have had scrambled eggs (very soft) - cottage cheese, nonfat frozen yogurt, tomato Soup with a teaspoon of non-fat ricotta - Anderson's Pea Soup (vegetarian version in non-fat) - I tried to puree some foods I like - YUCK! Cream of chicken soup - would love to have chili for the flavor, but I'm not that adventurous yet. Ordered some great after surgery recipe books scheduled for delivery Tuesday. I have to be able to cook for the family and myself so I am looking for menus and recipes that can be altered for me as well. My family eats pretty healthy since I have been watching what I eat for months pre-op. I would love to start a recipe exchange! SuperMom67
  21. B1 – 1/3 C. sloppy joe meat B2 – 1/3 C. sloppy joe meat L – 5 morning star farms vegetarian buffalo wings (surprisingly not bad). 2 cucumber spears. Lite ranch dressing. S – 1oz almonds, 7 small high Fiber crackers D – will be a small hamburger patty w/ cheese and condiments – no bun. Maybe a slice or two of tomato as well. Today was supposed to be day 4 of the pouch diet, but at lunchtime I was sick of meat so I had the veggie wings and cucumber. It was similar density and calorie content to the day 4 recommended foods, but slightly higher in carbs. The almonds and crackers were definitely not on the plan. Even though I strayed a little I can definitely tell that I fill up faster. The early stages of the diet must shrink the pouch a little. Maybe I’ll try a couple of days of liquids every month or so. I have an appointment next week for a follow-up and fill if needed. No fill for me! I still like to get the follow-up visits even if I don’t need a fill because they keep my honest. When I know I’ll have to get on a scale in front of others I’m going to make darn sure it says less than it did the last time I stepped on it!
  22. I went grocery shopping yesterday even though I don't move to soft foods until tomorrow and I can't wait! Thanks for all the other suggestions. I am a vegetarian so getting the Protein is a bit harder for me, but that ricotta and marinara combination sounds delicious. Well off to have a Protein shake :bored: Barbie- Are you really going on a NKOTB Cruise? That is awesome!!

Heh heh heh, I USED to be embarrased because I had to pack a big fat suitcase to go on a little trip like nthis - not because I had so many shoes to bring, but because my clothes were twice as big and I had to make sure that all my tops were long enough to cover up my belly! Now my stuff fits easily in a backpack :-) So I guess it's a trade-off, I have to bring weird vegetarian lap-band no PB food, but I also bring only a backpack of clothes! And hummus and sunflower seeds. Peace . . .

    Two steps closer...3 steps back

Don't beat yourself up about the "pig out". After I met with the surgeon I was told I had to loose weight. I wanted to, I intended to, but I ate like crazy. All those things I thought I would miss. Then it hit me, if I didn't loose weight my liver would not shrink and right in the middle they would just close me up. So I called the nutritionist and went on a self imposed semi liquid diet. Two or Three protien drinks and a sensable dinner. Funny, it was so easy. I became motivated. Now ask me about exercise, I didn't do a thing until the day after my surgery. I started out not being able to walk further than out the walk and one house and back. Within a month I was walking miles. My surgery was 9-23-08 and I have not eaten bread, rice, candy or sugar. I will eat yams because they are not "potatos, which is one step from mashed. I am now almost a vegetarian. I have to eat moist meat, so once a month a good steak, small portion, chicken thigh or fish. Lots and lots of fish. No egg yoke, only whites, and lots of oatmeal. I have developed food alergies, not due to the band, I am just weird. So I now drink Rice Milk or Almond Milk. Is it worth it, would I do it again? In a heart beat. Every time I see my surgeon I cry and tell him he saved my life. It is not a magic cure, but it is a tool, a wonderful, lovely tool. And I wore my bathing suit today. I felt great, I was a little shy and embarrassed, but it was fantastic. I wish you the best. Take care. Let me know how you are doing. Debbie

    I'm here to help...

Hi All - sorry I have not posted for a while. I have been keeping up with your posts (y'all have been very busy!). Had a computer issue last week, but it's resolved now. I seem to be moving the scale a little faster now. Instead of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to drop a pound or two, it's now 4-5 days. Last week I dropped 1 pound, then a day later another one! That's my best week in a long time. I am a slow loser, but a loser just the same, so I am not complaining (well whining a little, but you understand). I had lunch today with my work-friends from pre-retirement days. It was Kellie's birthday and she chose a vegetarian place. hmmm. This presented a Protein challenge. Not a fan of tofu. Oh well - it was just lunch. I had a delightful tomato bisque and a small salad topped with a scoop of egg salad. I couldn't eat it all, but I did eat all the egg salad. This was not difficult, did I say it was small? I tried to get a good amount of protein in for dinner but I wasn't very hungry. It's only one day - it seems so funny to worry about eating too little when I've spent much of my life worrying about eating too much (and eating too much anyway). I wonder if we will ever reach the point where we just eat healthy and don't worry about it. That is a worthwhile goal. I am going back to Korea! DD and her boys did not get to fly home this summer, so I'm going to them. Her hubby is in Washington for several weeks getting certified in his new job, she's still trying to get settled after the move to Seoul - 2 babies to care for. A girl just needs her mom sometimes, and this mom needs to play grandma with those little boys! I'm leaving July 30 and will come home on Sept 1. I am not looking forward to the flights to and from, but it will be much easier on me than it would have been on DD - 12 to 15 hours in a plane with a 27 mo old and a 3 mo old. They need to come home when dad can fly with them... They are hoping to make it home for Christmas. I know that season is harder for DD than any other. She misses being home for Christmas. I am VERY close to onderland. VERY close. and yes, Janet, I know you do not advise this, but I do weigh every day. I've found my weight fluctuates so much, I can't depend on one day a week. I have promised myself I will not allow a gain or status quo to upset me or drive me crazy. It's better than missing that one day that week when my weight is down. Did I say I am VERY close??? I will keep you posted. Listen for shouts of joy from Kansas City area!
