    Haven’t lost weight

Absolutely normal. There is the infamous stall that occurs about three weeks post op, but can occur at two weeks, four weeks or more out. Unfortunately it won't likely be the last stall, but knowing there will be stalls will hopefully help deal with them without worrying or panicking.
  2. yep - it's the infamous three-week stall that you've probably read a lot about on here. It happens to almost everybody (it's not always the third week - although that's the most common time - but some people have it the second week and some the fifth week - it varies). Just stick to your plan and it'll eventually break. Mine lasted two weeks (stalls are usually 1-3 weeks long). Stay off the scale for a few days if you have to

    I'm doing something wrong

That week three stall hits almost everybody - it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. It seems to be the body taking some time to adjust to the surgery and the major change in how you eat. I wouldn't worry about comparing yourself to those who are eating less because a lot of things go into how we metabolize food: your age, activity level, previous dieting history (the more you've dieted in the past, the better your body is at adjusting your metabolism to compensate), your overall health, etc. If the scale is still moving downward then your calories are probably fine. As you continue to drop weight, there may come a time when you need to cut calories because the smaller we get, the less food we need. But for now, you're losing weight, you're hitting your nutritional goals and hydration goals, so there doesn't seem to be any need to arbitrarily limit yourself to 500 or 600 calories a day. Just stay the course. Edit to add: I went back to look at one of my early days when I ate around 600 calories. I'm a little weird in that I rarely eat a full meal, it's usually mini-meals throughout the day. Below is what I ate that day. The Evolve is a protein shake, the Tillamook is a cheese snack pack, the Kitu is a keto-friendly coffee drink and I think the rest is self-explanatory. I wasn't restricting calories, this was just what I could eat at that point (I eat 800-900 calories a day now).

Post Op Diet - Week 3 of Liquid Diet

yep - three week stall. Happens to almost everyone. Last time I checked, there were over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I'm NOT kidding!) just stick to your plan and it'll eventually break. They usually last 1-3 weeks (mine lasted two weeks. Once it broke, I dropped like 6-8 lbs in a couple of days)

Post Op Diet - Week 3 of Liquid Diet

First of all do not panic. You are in the famous three week stall, it can come anytime but week three is the famous "three week stall" you can google it. You cannot work your way out of it, it just happens and your not doing anything at all wrong, it will pass. Second, I found that warm things were much better for me that cold or even sweet things. But remember this is just a stage, it will pass super quick and before you know it you will be on to the next stage and this will just be a memory. Try not to hurry on to the next stage, you may feel ready and you may be healed up on the outside but you cannot see the incisions or the surgical sites on the inside and you just had major surgery. Its important to let that stuff heal the way it needs to. Proper healing is very important for long term success!! So just go with the misery of the full liquids for the time and choke down the soups and the protein shakes until you get the go ahead to move on to the next stage and before you know it you will be eating regular foods (at a much smaller portion) Try drinking a warm bone broth when you think your hungry, they are high in protein and will fill you up and count towards protein and liquid. They also will leave you feeling full longer than a regular broth
  6. Oh yeah stalls. They’ll get you one way or another. You’ve done so well so far. Let your body have a break to catch up to the changes. Remember the stall may last one to three weeks and you may experience it again. (I had two.) Don’t get caught up in the 30+lb a month loses people on my 600lb life lose. They were 2 & 3 times your weight when they started. Remember, the more you have to lose the more you lose at the beginning, & your weight loss rate will slow as you get closer to your goal. Slow & steady wins the race. As long as your weight loss trend is heading downwards you’re golden.

    November 2020 sleevers

Congrats, that’s so great! As a recovering (disposable) straw addict, I’m excited to try a straw and see if I have the same result. I feel like I could drink so much more that way. Silly, but it’s how I’m used to drinking fluids. I’m currently starting week three of a stall. I did lose 35 pounds during the liver shrinking diet and the first few weeks after surgery. They told me to expect this but damn if I’m not ready for some weight loss! It’s definitely disheartening.

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

Finally broke my three week stall and had a 3 lb weight loss. 187 on the scale today. Woot woot! And I had two Christmas cookies yesterday- what a mind game. I’d did make a conscious effort to get my 64 ounces of water this week. I’m 15 weeks out and I am at about 900-1200 calories a day and I get at least 45 minutes of exercise 6 days a week (I use a Peloton bike). For those on a stall, listen to what everyone else has said and stay the course.
  9. So I’m barely three weeks out and hit a stall as early as the second week.... I only lost like 6 lbs the first week and one pound the second week... gained a pound mid third week and then lost it.... but that’s it! I think my surgeon didn’t calibrate me properly... I asked for maximum restriction (bougie 32) and he said that was too much for me... he said he would probably do a 36... I’m concerned it’s not enough restriction I can eat almost normal so I must exercise a lot of willpower... I feel so frustrated and defeated... I feel like this is just another hard diet to do and I’m right back at the same place like when I would diet, stall, binge and on and on we go.... I weigh 198.8 and that’s were it seems to want to stay...

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hi all, I’m now 5.5 weeks RNY post op. I have only lost 17 lbs post-op ☹️ Has anyone else experienced this? I was/am following all diet orders and restrictions I have recently moved to all foods stage. I am getting all of my protein and fluid requirements (and more) in I am exercising every day I was told from my surgeon that the first three to four months are the “honeymoon” phase, where the weight comes off with little effort. Week 1 was good, the rest have been averaging 2.5 pounds. Now it seems to be slowing down - last week’s loss was 1.8. What happens when the honeymoon is over?!? I’ve read the other posts about this issue, but I’m doing all of the recommended actions already. I don’t even think this is a stall, loss has been slow period. Is it because I’m older - 50’s? My nurse and dietitian just said that some people don’t lose as much as others Sorry to whine. I know there are no guarantees. After seeing the loss for nearly everyone else, I was just hoping for more. thank you!

    Why do I feel guilty?

I agree. Whenever I'm busy with chores or outside I'm absolutely fine and can keep going on. But as soon as I'm free all I can do is think about food. I think its more the head than the body. How much have you lost in three weeks? I'm on the famous 3 weeks stall right now.. can't see anything going down on the scale. Hope it gets over soon though. Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. could be either since stalls can last up to three weeks or so. But yes, it's definitely possibly to throw yourself in maintenance if bad eating habits have started to creep back in. If your weight loss doesn't start up again within another week or so, I'd start looking at my calorie intake and cut back a bit - and/or increase your activity level.

    Last 18lbs .. Help

it definitely gets much harder - and slower - the closer you get to goal. I made it - but those last 20 lbs were a BEAR to get off! I probably lost like 2 lbs a month - and hit many stalls. Every time it happened, I'd think "well, this must be it", and then two or three weeks later, I'd drop another pound. the best advice i can give is just keep sticking to your program, and know that it'll take quite awhile to get those last few pounds off. If your body truly has stopped, you can always lower your calories a bit - or increase your exercise.

    Why do I feel guilty?

I’m six weeks post-op and had the three week stall as well. Mine lasted for about a week. Also, I wasn’t given any specific goals by my surgeon and dietician except for liquids and protein. But, they did specify to eat 5-6 small meals per day.

    Why do I feel guilty?

From my highest weight prior surgery I have lost 22 lbs. 16 lbs in three weeks after surgery. Having a stall now a days. Which frustrates me and gives ne the feeling I'm not going to loose anymore. Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Let's see, a few things: 1. You may have a few uncomfortable days when you're wondering what you got yourself into. Don't worry, it gets better quickly. 2. Being "full" will feel different after surgery and you'll want to learn to recognize that feeling quickly. Overeating or eating too fast after surgery makes you REALLY miserable. 3. You'll only be able to eat a tiny amount at first. Just getting enough water and protein in will be tough. Don't worry, you'll be able to eat more soon. 4. Stick as closely as you can to the eating plan your bariatric team gives you. 5. About a month after surgery, you might stop losing weight. It happens to almost everyone and it's called the "three-week stall" here on the forum. Don't worry, you'll start losing again. 6. Don't buy a lot of clothes as you start losing weight. You'll be blowing through sizes really quickly. Just get a few inexpensive pieces until you know what size you are eventually going to be. 7. Don't compare your progress to other people. We have a different metabolism, dieting history, lifestyle, etc. Some people will lose faster than you and some slower. It's all good. 8. You will definitely reach a point when you can have your favorite foods again, although likely in small portions and not very often. Some things might taste different after surgery. Just a few tips! Hope all goes well with your surgery. 🤗

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

Just an update....I’m at the three month mark and have been at 190 for two weeks now. The dreaded three month stall. And why do stalls happen when you are teetering on a new set of numbers on the scale??? For anyone reading this who is contemplating surgery- do it. I have zero regrets. I am able to finally enjoy salads (which I missed so much). I am also at the dreaded hair loss stage but still wouldn’t change my decision. The fact that I can’t see a hair stylist (due to COVID and living in a purple county) means my dark roots just accentuate the thin spots. Recap of stats: HW: 252 (Jan 2020) Pre-op diet starting weight: 236 (8/14) SW: 226-228 (8/27) CW: 190 (12/8)

    BIG DEAL!🥴

it's the infamous three week stall. Almost all of us go through it. It's not always the third week (but it is for most of us) - but at some point within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery, almost all of us go through our first major stall. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. Didn't lose a lb. Then during week 4, the stall finally broke and I lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. Just continue to follow your program and stay off the scale for a few days if you need to - and know that it WILL break! And also know that you'll likely hit these several times during your journey. It's all part of the game...

    Post Sleeve Question

yep - it's the infamous three week stall. Happens to almost everyone (it's usually, but not always, the third week. But sometime within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery, pretty much everyone has their first major stall. It typically lasts 1-3 weeks). If you do a search on this site, you'll find over 15,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding! Just stick to your plan and stay off your scale if you have to. The weight loss WILL start up again...

    14 days after WLS

Don't have a lot of information about you, it would be helpful if you filled in your profile...hightest weight, surgery day weight, current weight, height...all this gives context to your post and helps us to tailor a response to you. So if I understand correctly its been about four days since you have lost scale weight, but in the 10 days before that you've lost 13lb??? That's great and above average for the stage you are at. There will be weight loss stalls along the way, one of the major ones is the three week stall (though for some this can happen before three weeks and for others well after). Please take the time to fill in your details.

    Post Sleeve Question

You are doing great so far. Stalls are very normal, google weight loss surgery three week stall, though yours is four weeks (the three week stall can become four or five week stall). Your body is taking time to adjust to the varous food stages plus the recent 'big' losses. You are doing great, keep doing what you are doing. Some stalls can last a few weeks, some are longer, some stalls are shorter. If yours lasts beyond a few weeks (and assuming you are following your post op guidelines), you may want to check in with your surgeon or dietician.
  24. You're doing great! You've actually lost MORE than average for the first month after surgery, especially considering that you started with a BMI on the low end. Stalls in the first month are extremely common -- we call it the "three week stall" because it usually happens around 3 weeks post-op. There are a lot of superstitions around how to end a stall, but the reality is that a stall is just your body catching up to the changes, and all you can do is be patient and stick with your program. Don't worry; it happens to almost all of us. I know you probably waited a long time to get this surgery and you're ready to be skinny, but it takes time. Congrats on your success so far!
