Hey Folks, I made it through surgery well yesterday. No issues whatsoever. I feel OK....just sore and a lot of discomfort when moving.... and I finally feel some gas coming on. The surgeon said everything went very well and the 22lbs I lost in the 2-week pre-diet was a big help. Right now I'm sipping bone broth with added Genepro protein powder (good stuff). Overall, on the day after surgery, I feel a little better than I expected. I look forward to pureed foods on Friday. (Yes, my surgeons move to pureed foods on day 3-4 post-op) A week ago, I filled ~25 - 3oz containers with tasty pureed chicken, pork, bison, egg/avocado, and tuna....and then froze them...ready to warm. But now my focus is sip, sip, sip, walk, nap, sip, sip, sip, walk, nap. (not necessarily in that order 🙂 So far, all is well!

I tried to emulate what I buy at the juice bar in LA Fitness Gym. Didn't work out well. It tasted good, but turned into a drink, more than a shake/smoothie. I need some ideas on how to "fluff" it up or other input. The PB and or cocoa powder powder also ended up "bubbling" at the top even after mixing. Ice also just disappeared as soon as I used the immersion blender on low. My chocolate PB "drink" 2 tbsp choc PB2 1 tbsp Ghirardelli cocoa 1 scoop GENEPRO Protein Powder flavorless (not the think bully whey type powder, this is "miconized" 8oz fat free milk, 3/4 cup ice cubes from machine 1 tbsp pure maple Syrup (too bitter without) 261 cal, 35g carb (28g sugar, 12 from milk) 3g fat, 43g Protein. Less PB2 powder? Less cocoa powder? More ice ratio? Thicker milk (fattier?) Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

I just started full liquid yesterday. Day two and i have 4 different flavors.. well 5.. but the 5th one (caramel) i bought reserved to use as creamer. I have peaches n cream, cookies n cream, chocolate and bananas n cream. I dont think i bought the strawberry but not sure. Then when i am done with these i have 3 cases of protein2o and i also have genepro( 90 day supply). I think i am set on additional protein for awhile-considering the daily supplement after the initial liquid stage is only 30 per day LOLOL.

I got genepro but I am not even sure I will need it lol the shakes are giving me my 60 grams of protein so that is not bad, I think I am going to have to try some smooth move later today if you know what I mean lol but today everything is going down easy and I have no doubt I will make my full liquids!

Can anyone recommend how to start weight training?
BigViffer replied to Jeff M.'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Unfortunately there is no exercise, cream, or lotion that will tighten loose skin. No matter how much a marketing department claims otherwise, it just isn't possible. The only thing that would come close would be a vasoconstrictor that temporarily tightens tissue (Preperation H). The only thing that weight training can do is enlarge muscles to back fill the loss of fat. And even then, it's unlikely most of us can build that much mass. Your best bet to enlarge muscle is to do comfortable weights at a higher rep. When I say comfortable, I don't mean 5 - 10lb curls either, I mean a weight that you can finish 8-10 reps with. It still needs to be work. If strength is your goal, it is the heaviest weight you can handle safely for about 5 reps for 3 sets after warm up sets. Compound lifts like barbell squats and overhead press are ideal. If size is your goal, total volume is what you want and targeted lifts make sense. (Arm day, chest day...) Either route you take, quality protein is paramount. And that means whey concentrate or isolate. Go with your palate because the only supplement worth buying is the one you will use. Just make sure it is whey. Not casein, not pea, not soy... good old fashion whey. And not that genepro crap. -
I've never had genepro but I like the unflavored Unjury protein powder. You can mix it into all sorts of things. They also make a chicken soup flavored powder that some people love. Sent from my moto g(6) play using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you ChrisB, facing my third EDJ November 9th for same reasons, almost as long for me, I think 8 weeks today. This reducing mama on infant style diet, nutritionist says I haven't hurt myself yet, yeah but emotionally puffy. Nuked a sweet, potato last might, took out the pulp and stirred into sk8m milk, added scoop of Genepro, yeah not highest quality but you do what you can. Made it like a cream soup. Ate my iddy bitty 1/4 cup , sat in chair fight my pouch until she stopped trying to puke it up. Then in a couple hours I felt like I could lie down, maybe sleep. This is NOT the journey I booked for!

Puréed food ideas please help!
Brttnyj89 replied to COL120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's made by Jell-O! It's the bomb! I mix it with Fairlife 2% milk and 2 scoops of Genepro unflavored! -

I think the difference between this and Genepro is the level of inaccuracy. Premier was found to have 26-29 g of protein, vs. the claimed 30 g. That is not a HUGE discrepancy like Genepro. Additionally Genepro promotes all this IMO, fake science about medical grade protein etc.. I'd be curious to know more about the 26-29 g of protein range. If it was mostly in the 26 g range, then that's more of an issue. If it was mostly in the 29 g range, that' an entirely different story. -
I had my band removed in May, then had RNY on 09/24. My favorite thing to eat right now is sugar free jello cheesecake pudding. I make it with Fairlife Milk and add two scoops of GenePro!

I got Genepro from the Bariatric Pal store, been blending into my cream soups to give a dietary kick and up the protein. So far so good. Only failure I had was the day I tried to put it in bone broth abdcended up with Genepro noodles instead.

Premier Protein – Not Premier for Bariatric Patients!
Alex Brecher replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
We stopped selling GENEPRO for a short while and many customers got very upset. They tell us that they know that they aren't getting in any more protein than regular protein but they like the way it mixes. That's what we tell anyone that asks us. -
Premier Protein – Not Premier for Bariatric Patients!
sillykitty replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Alex .... Honest question here. If you have such concerns about Premier Protein, why do you still sell Genepro. The Genepro issues are much more serious, and the company that makes Genepro has behaved seriously unethically, IMO. I also don't think the Premier Protein issues are so terrible. 26-29 g of protein vs. 30 g. That is a 3-13% discrepancy. Although not ideal, not the worst either (i.e. Genepro). And casein & milk protein concentrate vs. whey protein isolate. Are there any studies saying whey protein is superior? Not all of us have bypasses. Even with bypasses, just because casein is absorbed more slowly, does it mean it is absorbed less completely? -
Hard time getting protein in! Help please!
Matt Z replied to OhioSparkle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use isopure, gold standard and sometimes muscle milk powders, I stay away from genepro... lawsuits and all. Have you looked into any of the protein liquids that are more like water? Protein2o, or Isopure RTD? might help you out, if you can drink liquids with no issue, then these thin protein drinks might be what you need right now. -
Hard time getting protein in! Help please!
OhioSparkle posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 6 weeks out. I'm having no issues getting water in, but eating is a whole other story. I'm really struggling. I'm lucky if I eat one small Okios 15g protein yogurt a day. I have tried new foods, but 95% of things tend to cause pain in my stomach area, and then about 10 minutes later, I'm vomiting. I'm almost scared to even eat anymore. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Do you all use Genepro or Isopure? Yogurt and Potatoes are really the only thing my stomach likes. I'm getting scared because I know my body is not getting enough nutrients. -

Just got approval!! Any October sleevers out there?
Suesloosinit replied to sleevemebaby7781's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Genepro, put a scoop of that in water to let it disolve then add the fruit juice, was fine. Im more worried about the next 3 days on clear liquids, Ive never been a fan of black coffee but thats what Im going to have with a scoop of protein powder and just hope thats ok or I might just leave the protein out as it will make the coffee cloudy...gotta think ahead lol -
I had revision from band to sleeve on August 17. I have lost about 18 pounds which seems pretty good to me. I feel like I am learning to eat all over again. I seem to be doing pretty good with getting my protein in with the Genepro and I struggle a bit with the water. Last week I began to feel nausea and I realized I was eating too much. If I stick to 3 to 4 ounces I feel fine. My surgeon has advanced my diet as I can tolerate. I can eat salad or, anything really, just not much of it. My cravings are under control and I can have small amounts of sugar, like one Hershey kiss, and it does not seem to throw me into the trenches of hell of increasing my cravings for bad choices. I watch my macros which I have set for 20% carbs, 30% fat and 50% protein. For the most part I am hitting that or getting close enough. I am trying to establish life long eating habits without having foods that are completely removed from my diet. Eating out is hard because I tend to waste so much food. People say to save it and eat it later however I usually will never get to eating it because I just do not eat very much. I think I am going to have to eat 4 to 6 small meal/snacks a day to get my needs met. I am up to about 5 to 600 calories a day, but I know that is not sufficient, so I try to increase as I can. I know my body is in starvation mode because I have not moved on the scale for about 3 weeks. I am taking my Flintstone multi and a vitamin D daily and I also have some calcium chews. I do see a nutritionist but have not been able to get in since my surgery. Does this look like I am doing things correctly?

revision - band to sleeve - how are you doing?
hope2 replied to IDONTWANTTOGROWUP's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My revision was on August 17. I have lost about 18 pounds. I am still learning how to eat correctly with my sleeve. For example for the past few days I have not felt well, kind of sick to my stomach. I realized that although I am only eating about 4 ounces at a time I am still over eating. Today I ate less ounces at a time and things felt much better. l had lost most my weight with the band before it failed and luckily for me I had my revision before I gained too much back. My revision weight was and I am about at 164. I am about 5'1.5. I that 18 pounds has made the world of difference in how I feel about myself. I still am and probably always will need to use the Genepro protein because I am not much of a meat or egg person. In saying that I am trying to consume less carbs. So right now I am focusing on changing my diet. I am not on a diet I am just logging everything so I can see what I eat impacts how I feel and the cravings. I am very happy with my decision to not have the bypass over the sleeve and hope I will never need to take that step. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Frustr8 replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are Genepro and Genpro the same or different products? I just got Genepro from Bariatric Pro Store, a 60 count amount.🍯 -
I thought our bodies can't handle / process more than 30g of protein per meal? Are you saying you take in 64g of protein for 1 meal? Genepro doesn't have that much protein in it anyway, they just make up their own nutritional values and put a disclaimer on it. But I personally believe they you can't process more than 30g of protein in a meal is absolutely nonsense. While it's certainly possible it's suboptimal at a certain point, that number will likely be different for everybody (does it really make sense a 110 pound girl can handle the same amount of protein as a 360 pound man?) Regardless food digests and moves through your digestive tracks at different rates, and your body stores things. So I've heard that 30g number, and I've heard some physicians repeat it, but it's almost certainly crap. I have meals with 50g of protein (notably my breakfast). I wouldn't advocate having 150g of protein in a meal, but going over the 30g mark in a meal isn't gonna mark any difference. And hypothetically speaking if your body couldn't use over 30g of protein in a meal, wouldn't that mean your body wouldn't just absorb the excess protein thus you wouldn't get the calories? Doesn't really make sense when you think of it like that

I stick with my protein shake every morning for breakfast. I also add a half of light and fit yogurt along with a scoop of genepro protein. That way I am guaranteed to get at least 64 grams of protein to start the day. The thought of food just doesn't interest me anymore, so this is my go to item for now.

I avoid artificial sweeteners. I do get my protein in with Genepro in my coffee and with eggs, chicken, etc. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

There is a difference between unflavored and flavorless. Unflavored only means that there is no flavoring added to cover the natural flavor of whatever protein they are selling. Flavorless is just about unobtainable unless you look at Genepro which is snakeoil. Totally worthless BS from an unreputable company. But it mixes well and has no flavor, so many people buy it.
