Question about carbonated beverages
ksc1965 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a diet coke every once in awhile with no problems. Occasionally I will get an uncomfortable tight feeling but I burp and feel fine. Then today. .. had about 5 sips and got a terrible "stuck" feeling. The longer I sat there, the more sick to my stomach I became and finally threw up. (TMI.. sorry) I wasn't eating food and my last fill was 3 weeks ago. So what's that all about? I've read that many people can't drink carbonated beverages ever after surgery. (Apparently I might have just become one of them) What's the physical reason for that? And is there a reason why a diet coke would bother me one day and not 4 days later? Just curious. -
Got Sick For The First Time Saturday
Joiebean posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an FYI---this may be TMI for some. So...it finally happened. I ate to fast, filled up my stomach and a little more and....well...up it came. I found it really strange. I haven't actually thrown up since surgery and that was violent dry heaving. This wasn't like the violent getting sick...but it just literally came back up. No convulsing, lol, no gagging, it just simply came back up and I spit it out. Is that normal?? Is that what others have experienced? My sleeve is starting to take regular foods again and so I'm trying new stuff....but it still doesn't like some things. I got a little sick from Soup with to much grease in it too (I know...grease in soup?? Go figure) -
Thrush is very common due to antibiotics. I had the joy of a yeast infection (sorry...tmi). I forgot to have the doctor prescribe Diflucan to ward off the infection. I would call your surgeon. Forget the three day weekend. Someone is on-call and they can prescribe you meds or give you advice. Hang in there.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've found that the ones with no padding tend to make them look a little pointy (I know, TMI). Anyone else have any recommendations? -
Headache and Liquid Diet
Colleen C replied to astalsby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of us understand because we went through this too, the pre-op diet is so hard! Your body and mind is going through withdrawals. Sounds a little crazy but it is true. Concentrate on getting through the day and soon it will be over. Baby steps... Sheer willpower to get the surgery will get you through this and keep reminding yourself this part is temporary. To me, it got so much easier after surgery, especially when you get to full food choices. You need to do this to shrink your liver and the bonus is you will loose weight and be on your way to the new you. Use this site for support, to cry, complain, willpower, encouragement or anything you need. That is what it is here for and why the rest of us are here. TMI ALERT: A few times on my pre-op when I could not stand it anymore I would take a bite of something and chew it up and spit it into the garbage. It helped me. I m not sure that is for everyone but it worked for me. Please know, we are here for you and been where you are right now. You CAN and WILL succeed. Good luck to you, Colleen -

Y'all, I'm so excited. My husband loves Chinese food, and I love hot and sour Soup. However, as many of you know from reading my whiny rants on other threads, I have had a really hard time keeping food down--even things like soft-scrambled eggs. So yesterday, we were near his favorite Chinese place, and we decided to eat dinner there; this was scary for me, since there's a VERY short list of things I seem to be able to tolerate, and I really didn't want to get sick in yet another restaurant bathroom (sorry if TMI). So I decided to just have the broth from a cup of soup and go from there. It was yummy, and I ate my couple of bites, tried some of the tofu in the soup broth, and loved it, AND it stayed down and felt good. I asked our waitress about possibly adding more tofu at home, and she said sure, sounded good. We stopped on the way home and got some firm tofu, and I cut half the package up and put it into the leftover soup (probably around 1-1/2 c. of soup, since I didn't eat much of it). Today I got a slotted spoon and got out some of that "marinated" tofu, heated it up, and it was FANTASTIC!!! I was able to enjoy something really yummy, get some Protein, and not be sick!!! Now I'm investigating good tofu recipes. Any of you vegetarian or semi-vegetarian types have good suggestions to share? Thanks! I'm so much happier about things today. Amazing what being able to eat something does for one's mood. Meg

Started Solids Early.... Concerns (warning Tmi)
BylawTom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I had my surgery on Dec.19, and somehow survived Christmas without cheating. I did however try some soft solids on thursday and friday, which didn't cause me any discomfort. New years eve I had real solids, ie. some chicken, shrimp. other than feeling really full, it went okay. So Sunday I had some more solids... 3-4oz of lamb, a few bites of greek salad, and some steamed vegetables. Everything that I've eaten I've made sure to chew like crazy. - Concern = about 12hrs after the meal, woke up with a major stomach ache, diarrhea, nausea. Stomach ache lasted about 12hrs, felt like there was a brick in my right side, which gradually got better as the Water I was sipping constantly flushed through me. It's now the next morning and I'm still having diarrhea, slight nausea....... Is this something I should be getting checked out? or can I attribute it to eating what my body was not ready for? -
Now that IS an NSV to celebrate! Not too TMI for this crowd. Keep Pimpin that Sleeve!

3 weeks of carnation
JENNIFER7375 replied to marmar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do the carnation shakes as well. It sucked!! Did some very unpleasant things to my stomach , TMI but I'm trying to be truthful. That being said, as sucky as the pre op diet it was, I now know it was well worth it. It's gonna suck but you can do it!!! -

That's just what I wanted to hear. I thought that way... that I'd feel just like that. I love how you said "second chance at life". I want that, that feeling right their. I HATE feelings how I do about myself. I NEVER let my husband see me naked (sorry if that TMI). I have so much shame and I rarely bother to put on makeup or do my hair... what's the point. I know that's horrible to say. But it is how I feel. I never go out looking unclean or anything... but.... what's the point in putting hours into my appearance.... no one notices me. I used to be bulimic. I've been thin in my life. My teen years, I was hot. But since the birth of my daughter I've been nothing but heavy. Now I've had my son.... I'm just gone. I'm still inside this massive amount of flesh and fat... but no one sees me, not really. Guys don't notice me when I walk by, not if I spend 10 minutes or 10 hours on my looks. Not that I want guys... I love my spouse. It just would be nice not to feel like I don't exist sometimes. UGHH! I just can't wait for this surgury. I'll do whatever it takes to get it and I will be so good. I just need that little bit of help. To protect me from myself, and falling back into depending on food for everything. Pray for me! Thank you for being so inspiring.

Iron Supplements & Nausea
MidwestGirl replied to MidwestGirl's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hey Thin! Thanks for the advice. I just called my dietitian because after googling the Bariatric Advantage iron supplements, I saw that they come in three different flavors, each is a different amount/dosage, so I wasn't sure which one they suggest. But they said they sell the lemon lime flavor which is apparently 60mg in each chewable. I am going to get some on Monday & am so excited! She said that people who do the chewables usually have less constipation too, sorry TMI. :blushing: Wow, I'm really excited about the whole not-having-nausea thing. And I like that the supplements include Vitamin C so I don't have to worry so much about eating them with the vitamin C foods. Thank you again! :crying: -
I think the gas is the problem, maybe TMI but I started to pass gas so I guess that's a good sign! Lol. I'm going to try to walk a lot today, hopefully that helps. I walked a few hours after surgery and I think I over did it, thought for sure I was gonna throw up but I had the nurse give me IV zofran. I made sure I got a script for that for coming home! I have to have some protein shakes today, hope that goes ok. Thanks for the input and good luck!

Please Help - Was Sleeved On Monday The 12Th
dlinnh replied to dlinnh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, I can't tell if I'm hungry or my new tummy is pissed off. I think it actually gave me the finger the other day! I thought days 4 and 5 I was starving. But really I wasn't hungry - just trying to get used to the new feelings and signals. I can't wait to be able to go to soft liquid stage - yogurt, creamed Soups and pudding - that should be on Monday. but taking it slow is the key here I think. Also, no BM yet - REALLY! I was sleeved on Monday. Dr. told me to get Miralax - so I drank that and still nothing. I can take it again tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. I never thought I would be so happy as the time I get to use the potty. TMI I definitely did too much today. I bent over to get something in a low cabinet and I really felt the "pull" in my abdomen - like I was very aware of the staples. good luck everyone -
