February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I hear you on the back pain! I've already got arthritis in my spine and a pinched nerve in the neck. My knees were starting to hurt too so that was when I decided I had to get serious and scheduled the gastric bypass. Knees are all better, my the pain in my back and neck are ever present. I have wanted a breast reduction for a long time but am now waiting to get to my goal weight before I go to a surgeon for an opinion. I must say I do not like the way the girls feel---gravity is getting meaner and meaner.... I now this is TMI, but I literally feel them pulling my shoulders down more than ever, leaving me with horrific posture and more neck pain. What is the epidural all about? I have not heard of that for back pain before. -
Worst. Dumping. Ever. Last. Night.
So I thought I would throw caution to the wind and sample some of the fruit salad that my mom brought over for the fam. I dutifully portioned out 1/8 cup of the stuff. I figured the sugar in the fruit may be in issue, but come on, 1/8 cup? Barely a couple bites, should be fine.
Before I could finish it, my heart started to feel like it was beating out of my chest.

Ended up in the washroom barfing. And while I was barfing, I had to . I was literally alternating ends to face the toilet until it felt like there was nothing left in my insides. I swear more came out of me that I even put in it over the last 3 days.
I laid down with my forehead on the cold bathroom floor tile for like 20 minutes afterwards to recuperate. Then Mr. (my hero ) carried me to the shower and helped me crawl into bed.
So yeah, I'm feeling pretty shitty this AM.

And on a lesser note: LOVE the NSV that he was able to pick you up off the floor and carry you to the shower! Um, hopefully NOT firemen's style! haha

Five day follow up
Cl@ireyBearry replied to LisaCh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your worries and fears are all normal, I have has extreme dumping in my first month, and every once in a while now, (3 months post op) I remember the day I had an actual mostly solid BM! About 3-4 weeks post op? My family and I actually celebrated even though people talk about poop like it’s TMI! I tried to keep taking sips of water every 10 mins, and all I could stomach was chicken broth for the first 10 days. Jello and popsicles (sugar free) helped a lot. Also, about 2 weeks after my surgery I began to have a fever every day from about 2 pm to 8pm sometimes longer. I had one infected site (robotics) and when I did get the antibiotics, they stopped all digestion. But I made it through. You may have some worries and fears, but that’s normal. And as long as you just do your best to follow the diet guidelines, you WILL lose weight! Cheers! -
Let us know what your doctor says, okay? Heavy periods are a bummer, I used to sneeze and spot through my clothes, yeah, TMI, but the gospel truth. Don't know how I could made it through surgery, the hormones being released from my fat and still be cycling. I would have probably, knowing me the best, drug myself to the Gynae and begged to be spayed. Would he have done it? Not my current of record, but mine from Columbus, yep , he wanted to after Tomkitten's birth 40 years ago. Probably why I never darkened his door, had a few more appointments with varied , never discussed it, now my own here, he has no desire to. Told me the only way he would was if my uterus "fell" and my cervix was protruding out of my body. And he also doesn't have correct Feng Sei, so even the forces of nature are not making him brighter. So he is living his own life, and I will be ding dang donged if I EVER. walk through his. office door again!

Also, there’s nothing TMI about talking about your period. 😊

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
BulletWithButterflyWings replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't pee til hours after surgery but the next day I was going more normal, just with a bit of discomfort from the cath. that I had in during surgery. I'm 2 day post op and my left side is killing me but it's definitely still some gas stuck in there and also (tmi) I haven't had a bowel movement so I'm assuming that all plays a part in this discomfort. I havent had one either. I've been assuming that mine is gas pain too. -

Hi, I haven’t been in this forum in a while (life got really busy and the hospital I had my surgery at has a Facebook group/monthly meetings) so I got distracted. Just wanted some insight from others. I have an IUD and since I got it Oct of 2017, I have not had a period. Light spotting every no and again, but that was it. After surgery Dec of 2018, I had a medium period for two weeks following surgery. Seemed normal from everything I read. Nothing in Feb, had a 2 week one in March, week long in April, 2 weeks early May. Then I went one week without one in May and have now had one for almost 3 weeks now. My surgery was almost 6 months ago. Should this really be happening still with insanely long irregular periods? Especially since I have an IUD? Not sure if I should call my surgeon or my OBGYN or something.

*Tears* longest Plateau Ever..long vent

Thanks guys! the only thing I'm not fully getting in is the exercise due to my setback and then i had a severe constpation issue, I started the C25K but I will have to restart that next week after my (TMI) butt soreness has gone away and i can walk better. I haven't been able to consume alot as i get full really fast, I'm now beginning to hit my water goals. i have been getting in the protein thanks to the shakes but my doc told me to increase my food intake which seems like a difficult task but I'm trying. It's just so depressing that i feel im doing everything in my power to do this right and i don't feel it's working. I've stepped back from te scale everyday and now I'm on it maybe every 2 days. I'll try to stay away from it. btw, the only thing I've ever drank was water, i don't drink alcohol nor sodas and here lately, I've been drinking diet snapple which is on my list from the doc. -
I had this issue after childbirth. What worked for me is trying while standing up in the shower. Sorry for TMI 😬

You know I just might be yours and AZhikers cousin. Carry a bottle with me. But first drink and whenever I forget to keep up my fluid, I cough up dry strings or chunks of dry mucus Maybe I also have low-grade sinusitis, or is owning up to it a TMI?

It was the blackest poo i've ever seen. Still having a bit of gas pain in the right shoulder when i go to bed at night, but when i walk around for a bit, it helps. Damn that phrenic nerve! So all in all, Im still feeling like a wuss. -
Obsessing about weight loss/ or lack thereof and adjusting after surgery
Tiffany L. posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all! So I’m 10 days post op, vertical sleeve (5-16-19) and I don’t know how much weight I should be losing per day. I freaked out yesterday because my scale went up. I was 352 to 359 but I really am not eating much. I’m drinking a lot of water but as for pureed foods, I’m having about an oz of ground chicken with a tbsp of chunky salsa (without added sugar) or 1/4 oz of refried beans as a snack plus the protein shakes around my 5th snack. Today I weighed myself and I’m back to 353 but I have to admit, I’m going through it! I’m freaking out afraid that I’m failing at this! I also don’t have much support. My husband doesn’t want to hear my whining, and I can’t talk to my friends because they aren’t obese. I’m feeling all the emotions now. Also, I’m not really feeling full. I just stop eating the moment I feel gassy, and wondering if that’s normal. Not to mention, my BM is odd, I’ve used the bathroom just twice this week. TMI. I’m sorry. I hope I’m not the only one experiencing this! I hope it gets better as the time goes and I do see this weight come off. The pain and the emotional adjusting has to be worth it. Sigh :’(. And yes, I’m feeling a bit depressed. I’m just faking it as much as I can. I’m such a social person and life is around food and it no longer is. Plus mg bday is on Wednesday and I already know I’ll be alone and bored af cause I don’t know what to do without food!!! Sorry for the rant. Thank you for reading! Xoxo -
Green Tealael I have an FYI/TMI question. Does T Effluvium have to do with head hair only or all Bodily Hair? The later sounds pretty scary, not sure I am going to feel Gung Ho the whole way.
-
I hear ya! Right after surgery I lost a bunch of “water weight” but in the four weeks following, hardly a pound is gone! Sorry if this is TMI but I have averaged only 1 bm per week, too. I think it’s all just piling up in my intestines, waiting for the dam to break.
-
I have a somewhat TMI question. I can’t find anything on Google about it so I figured I’d ask if anyone else has had this problem. I’ve had bladder and urinary tract pain for the last six months and I’m wondering if it’s related to the RNY or the loose skin I have from weight loss. I am a year and a half out from surgery so it’s not related to the catheter. I’m thinking it’s a loose skin issue. The majority of my loose skin is in my stomach, lower pelvis area, and upper inner thighs. Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
VSG_Me_2019 replied to Zemi's topic in The Gals' Room
I wish I had known how real the struggle would be with constipation... lol TMI maybe, but I'm sure most people who have had the surgery would agree. I was someone who NEVER had issues pre-surgery, so I was surprised when I had to start using products to go. It makes sense, but it wasn't on the list of things I talked about with my surgeon pre-op haha. -
Yes, I had the same problem for the first 10 days or so. Tmi, but was dark orange. I think it's pretty normal and should subside. Good luck!

Let's talk about body dysmorphia
renjenn replied to Lochnessamber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I knew I was big and very overweight. I didn't really feel that big. I hated what I saw in pictures and denied to myself that I was actually that overweight. What told me was my shirt size, the fact that I had to ask for a seatbelt extension on a plane and the inability to <<warning, TMI>> wipe my behind and to roll out of bed in the morning. Since having surgery it has almost reversed everything. I don't feel like I've lost much looking in the mirror but my husband keeps saying how much I've changed. I'm not down a shirt size yet but they fit better, I can get out of bed and do other things easier. my cholesterol and glucose tests are half of what they used to be. Everything is improving but I still worry that I'm not going to get to the size I want as if its going to stop tomorrow and I'll always be fat. Then sometimes something in me says, wow. you look so much better. I can feel bones I haven't felt in a long time. -
Hey oakbay, it's Frustr8, how are you doing now? I have had I think 13 endoscopies, first one my ENT did transnasaly, we kind of b tricked my insurance on that. See I had a pretty severe pre-aurical cyst, right in front of my right ear opening, this kooky anomaly runs in my family through my daddy. His never gave him a moment's trouble, both my daughter and I had flare-ups where it would get infected, gather into a boil type thing and then skin would break, and pus would come out. I know TMI, too much info but there is a reason I'm relating this. My daughter had to have her one, we both had pinholes on both ears, only one flared, but she was only 5 years old.c Mine I kept longer, clear into late adulthood, okay at this time July of 2014, I had a pretty bad flare. United Healthcare which I had at this time, regarded such cyst removal, even if I had a chance to develop septicemnia as purely cosmetic, just a vanity surgery. But they would cover an Endoscopy happily. So offically that's what it was billed as. The next one was done June 2015. as a follow-up to acute pancreatitis. And the last in my home town was done December 2017 as part of my pre- surgical testing with different specialities. I. am told I had another one during my RNY surgery,by Dr Needleman , guess he wanted to make sure I had not changed anatomically from the previous one, I must have passed because I did get my surgery, those were my EGDs, subsequent to bypass surgery , the duodenum can no longer be visualized. So from then on they are technically EGJ, the surgical endoscopies look now at your jejunem. So the rest of them started October 12, 2018, a month and week after my RNY. Attempts are made each time to stretch and dilate the opening, my pouch was so inflamed and had 3 ulcers present next to the opening which was shrunk to a tiny pinhole opening. First 2 were 2 weeks apart, and then at slightly longer intervals, but on November 28th I was so inflamed still and the 5 ulcers on the back wall of the small intestine looked much worse, although I had been taking Carafate every 6 hours around the clock since October 12. And I ended up with a PICC line, being fed for 12 hours daily through my vein in the upper left arm, my testing showed I was malnourished and protein- anemic , although I had been trying hard to do things correctly I was vomiting more than digesting food and using the nutrients. And I had this PICC intracath for 3 months. The month after it was terminated I lost 30 pounds, that made up for what I missed losing while on the TPN. So each time they tried it seemed to snap back shut. On the last one, April 12th , she put in her notes she felt she had stretched it enough that good could pass through, my diet would not have to be liquid or pureed, okay maybe that day things were fine but I have lost meals 4 of the last 6 days, if there is any joy there it is that I vomit so quickly there is no nasty odor to what comes up. And when I awaken in the morning I am still nauseous until maybe 10 AM, then I can start drinking fluids 2- 3 oz every 15 minutes, Good thing I am retired ,I could not do this and work at Wally World. And I still have pain, the pouch , the last little bit of my sternum and 2-3 iches below, usually feels like a clenched fist, and right subcostal pain which is my, pesky jejunal ulceration. I was told last clinic visit May 1st, we will do one more endoscopy, tenatively scheduled June to Early July, they believe the pouch has decreased in redness, but the 5 nasty evil intestinal ulcers remain. At that time ( I think 8 to 5 odds) more surgical intervention of another kind is done. But,i have lost 140 pounds from my highest weight,84 or 95 pounds since my September surgery, gone from a 28-30 W to a 20, ready to drop into an 18, where clothes selections improve dramatically. So that is Lovely Lovely Lovely but a heck of a way to get there!

Hi. New here. Liquid diet starts tomorrow! Surgery is in 15 days!!!

Omg! Same here! Thank you for the heads up because I don’t stop bleeding! TMI, I’m sorry! And I am afraid to get on birth control because I’ve been on them for so long before! But I also don’t want to get pregnant until after like 3 years! So I don’t know what to do. Thank you for the support. This forum has blessed my life!!!! -
Tomorrow will be a week since my surgery and the pain is getting better everyday. It’s really just 2 incisions on my left side that seem to hurt the most. I still can’t bend down or over and I’m sore to the touch. The day after my surgery was pretty rough. The pain was awful and I actually ended up throwing up twice just from sucking on a sugar free popsicle and sipping water. I ran a slight temp that night and the next as well. I haven’t had to take my blood pressure medicine since the second day home from the hospital which is awesome! The first 2 days were so hard to try to take my pills and vitamins but now it’s not so bad. I’m squeezing in 30-40 ounces of water a day and about 2 protein shakes. I tried a ricotta bake recipe I found off the Bariatastic app today and I was only able to take about 5 bites. It was delicious though! I’ve tried a few nibbles of some baked beans and I can eat cottage cheese ok. Weird thing is I feel hungry a lot! I went expecting that but I get full so fast. I went for a 1.6 mile walk today which felt great and drove for the first time today too. That actually made me really nauseous though which I haven’t been feeling since the first day home. And I know this is TMI but had my first bowel movement today since the surgery . That was so painful though. I think I need to ask about some kind of stool softener! The part that makes everything all worth it is I feel thinner already! Clothes and underwear are looser and my hubby already noticed a difference! As of this morning I’m 13lbs down!

Am I Doing This Right?
sher0929 replied to sher0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all so much for your advice! I think my sips are definitely too large and I'm trying to consume too much at once. I actually just got a check in call from the nurse and she said that having a bowel movement may help relieve some pressure as well. Which I haven't had since the day before surgery. So Miralax it is! (sorry if it's tmi but we all gotta deal with it, right?) -
what "little" things are you looking forward to post-surgery?
New&Improved replied to artisticmindRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being able to buy clothes from a decent store good brands not just big and tall.. Being able to walk around for hours to keep up with my family. Being able to fit on rides better. Not dealing with sweat between rolls (tmi) Not being looked at everytime I go out to eat. Being able to run for more than 30 seconds. Well be nice to have some female attention for once! Fit people get treated better in every aspect of life especially when shopping! Being able to fit into my sports car better Being able to go hiking it's been about 6 years.. Being able to save money on food and being a cheap drunk if I ever do drink. My biggest one is hopefully not to be hungry constantly every day, eating to live not living just to eat! -
Almost 5 weeks out and feeling constantly nauseous
iliana00000 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I started on soft foods... and ever since I have been so nauseous like morning sickness lasting all day. TMI after 3 months finally got my period. My body just feels terrible overall feeling weak, so emotional, and tired. I am trying to be active but when I walk and such my heart starts to race like crazy. Idk if it is just me everyone I know seems to be doing fine post-surgery, but I've been struggling bad. I don't even care about losing weight at this point I just want to feel better. Even drinking Water is hard, its like I am regressing rather than progressing. anyone else experience this?
