Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
chiquitatummy replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I love coming back to this thread and reading all the ways ya'll are experiencing life anew post-surgery. Life is bananas for me and all the shares here are a great reminder of the many reasons I had this surgery at a time when I am often too busy to do much of my own reflection. So...thank you to everyone that has taken time to share the wonderful and weird ways you are experiencing life post WLS. My latest NSV is an emotional/psychological win around internalized food and body shame. I have owned a food scale for years and for all those years I felt ashamed about using it, judging myself as so "out of control" that I couldn't manage healthy portions on my own. Rather than a simple tool, I viewed it as a symbol of a failed out-of-control relationship to food. I had a hard time using the food scale because I was embarrassed to keep it in sight or use it in front of anyone. Fast forward to last week...when I got so fed up with other people in my household putting my food scale deep in the cupboard that I taped a sign to it and wrote in bold sharpie "I USE THIS, PLEASE LEAVE ON THE COUNTER FOR ME". Felt zero shame or hesitancy in doing this, just happy to solve the annoying problem of one of my essential tools being hidden away from me. This feels like one of my most important NSVs. -
October surgery friends??
ann2472 replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Checking in, how are my October surgery friends doing? Pretty good here, just got back from a road trip with hubby, I told myself I'd stick to my plan and I did, with lots of activity since the warm weather cooperated. Now I'm weighing 201 & excited bc for many years I had a goal of getting to 200 that I was never able to meet. Hopefully everyone is doing well. Only one more month until 6 and for me that means I can eat without food restrictions. Just in time for spring and summer veggies and a little fruit! -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Surgery was yesterday! These past 20 hours so far haven’t been the easiest but I’m surprised that aside from pain and discomfort, my energy level is still high. I feel like myself - just with new (and temporary) limitations. I just got my first clear liquid tray. It’s satisfying bc I’m not hungry but my mouth needed something. The air is the worst part. If you’re surgical team doesn’t immediately give you an incentive spirometer then you should ask for one. I don’t have one but I have been doing the long slow deep breaths in an effort to expand my lungs clear this air. It hurts and it isn’t comfortable but the air is mostly gone for me. So far today I’ve walked a mile and half just walking a single lap of the unit each hour. I’m terrified of blood clots or setbacks. So I’m really disciplining myself. Best of luck to all of you who are on deck!! -
Lost 80 pounds in one year (March 2) Feels great, yet feel it should’ve been a lot more Started over 300. I can easily eat 1800 calories (is this normal?!). I see people that say they can’t eat more than 600-800 and that’s definitely not me. I need tips bc I’m only halfway there!

February 2022 Surgery Buddies
Living_My_Best_Life replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since I started puréed foods, I’ve had hummus and saltine crackers (either I ate it too fast or it didn’t agree with me, bc I had chest pains both times I tried it). I also had cottage cheese a couple times without much trouble and refried beans with some melted shredded cheese on top. Today, I tried tuna fish with a tablespoon of mayo, which I also ate with saltine crackers. That was really good. I’m planning to try the recipe for Shelly’s ricotta bake soon. What puréed foods have you tried so far? -

My not being able to eat ice cream is a good thing. I don’t even miss it anymore. Cheese I love and yogurt but don’t eat either bc they make me bloated. Plus they mainly cheese is pretty fattening so I’m good w not having it anymore But good to know there are other versions of them. I knew this about yogurt but not about cheeses though. I pretty much eat a lot of the same things over and over. I love love salads so that’s my go to for lunch every day. -
I am almost 3 months out and struggle to eat anything resembling a meal because my stomach only allows tiny meals. I buy tiny pots of stuff from the supermarket. I got really fed up of the leftovers I had to throw away. For breakfast I might have a boiled egg or plain yogurt with home made apple sauce { frozen in a ice cube mould } or a passion fruit. Or a banana and peanut butter milkshake Lunch might be some kind of pate on 2 or 3 tiny melba toasts or some seafood in a sauce with steamed veg from a frozen packet. Or a tuna mayo salad, a small baked potato with cheese and a few baked beans, Dinner, chilli, chicken mince curry, Chinese minced chicken in lettuce cups, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, 1/2 Avocado with prawn mayo I try for 2 snacks a day. cream cheese with mini bread sticks, ham rolled with cream cheese, homemade soup made with milk and extra milk powder, mozzerella and tomato, jerky, chicken wings, however you have them, a sausage. Hope I have given you some ideas.

Wondering if i made the right decsion
Tara A replied to laloos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! You made the right decision! Everyone has this exact moment you are experiencing now! You will be able to eat again. You will enjoy food. I'm 5 years post and I eat anything I want. It will take time. Focus on the positives and the end game! This feeling of regret only last a few weeks and then your focus will shift to introducing new food, portion sizes and most important your weight loss. Get creative with your protein. Make it a large part of your life. It's an extremely important part of your success. I'm 5 years post surgery and still drink my protein. If you are a coffee drinker.. and some Vanilla ensure or the like to your coffee. It will bring you comfort and fill you up. For me, I focused less on what I wasn't able to eat and more on what I could eat that gave me the most satisfaction. You can sip on coffee for hours. you can only eat a few bites of eggs. Soups were another big thing for me in the beginning. Why? Bc I could get down more and didn't feel deprived. If I felt like I wanted something sweet. I'd suck on an orange wedge. Try different things to take your mind off the negatives.. they will pass. You will be able to eat and enjoy food again! Start weight was 355 and I'm 140 now. -
Both surgery have risks. I went with the full bypass bc I my start weight was 355 and my Surgeon said I'd have more success with the bypass over the sleeve. My sister-in-law had the sleeve around the same time I had my surgery. I have lost 210 lbs 5 years post surgery and she lost around 100 lbs. Both successful but she has started to put back on weight now and I have maintained. I will say however, I have never stopped drinking my protein as a meal replacement for breakfast. That is not the case for her.

I am scheduled for February 20! I was starting to freak out a little, but I found this forum and it helped so much! I am having my procedure done in MX because it cannot be paid for out of pocket in BC. Curious if anyone else had a sleeve in MX and what the post-op support was like from a distance? I read post-op counseling and such is important. Would love to have everyone's thoughts! Sent from my SM-F926W using BariatricPal mobile app

Periods (women only please)
lizonaplane replied to Ngotsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be hesitant to use the implants. They tend to be associated with weight gain, more than the pill. My surgery center didn't say I would have to use additional BC, but I don't have sex, so maybe they didn't discuss it? I know a lot of people have used Mirena (IUD) after surgery and done well with it. I also used to take BCP continuous cycling because I was sooooo miserable when I had my period. I hadn't had a period in over a decade going into surgery. They told me to stop the pill to reduce the risk of clots. I stopped 6 weeks before surgery. I am now 5 months out from surgery and I STILL haven't had a period despite being off birth control entirely. (and thank you @pintsizedmallrat. I identify as gender fluid and that is one of the reasons I worked so hard not to get periods.) -
Surgeon's advice after vomiting
Guest replied to lizonaplane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I need to make a list of BS rules. I get the patches, since efficacy isn't guaranteed. Gummies I may get because some may contain sugar (get sugarfree ones and you're fine). I'll call it the Let's Punish Fat People for Sh*ts & Giggles List of Rules, and it'll feature Greatest Hits such as: No drinking 30 minutes before meals (because the water may simply decide to just hang around in that stomach of ours forever) No caffeine (because we snort that, it's not like the fluid it comes with outweighs the mild diuretic effect) No vitamin gummies (because god forbid the fatties have an easier time not getting malnourished, after all there may be 6 or even 7 calories in those gummies!) Six months of random unhealthy diets pre-surgery (because that liver simply won't shrink unless half the people doing pre-op give up, you see) Feel free to add more. -
Mine is EKG, Chest Xray, and like 12 different blood test My blood test stuff says CBC W DIFF, CMP Serum, PT/PTT Plasma, Magnesium blood, Cooper blood, Zinc blood, Phosphorus blood, HBA1C, Lipid Panel, T3 Total, TSH ect... Also a Psychological evaluation. I didnt need a sleep study because i have diagnosed sleep apnea, and also did not need a upper GI Endoscopy because i had one last year. All i have left waiting for me is the Psyc eval, taking 2 months for the next appointment for that which is BS.

I’ve heard of the 3rd year bounce back too. Honestly scares the sh&@ out of me. It was from one person I know. Not sure if it’s bc she just had trouble with that or if it’s fact. Hard once someone says that not to let it stick in your head. Even though I know I’ve been at goal and maintained. Give it take a few pounds each way. I think weight will be something I have to always keep vigilant on. -
Hi..... today marks one week post op. Started the journey last August and my surgery was 1/27. My biggest (and most unexpected) hurdle has been NO DESIRE TO EAT. NOT EVEN A LITTLE. I called my doctors office on Tuesday bc I was extremely weak and not sleeping. Went in on yesterday and I had dropped 14.3lbs (starting weight was 264.3 and I was 250 at weigh in) Doc told me to drink for juice or something with sugar in it and switch to ensure drinks. He's worried about me getting malnourished. Said we will get back on track with the diet once I'm feeling better. I did that but the only mistake I made was sipping through a straw AND drinking while eating soup. HUGE MISTAKE. I won't do that again. Today is better though. Has anyone else gone through this as far as NEVER being hungry?

Omg that looks delicious!!! You should sell what you make bc if it tastes as good as it looks you would make a killing!! -
Congrats! Where are you from? I ask bc of….stones” what does it mean? Pounds?

I can tell you as a woman that breast fed and produced barely enough milk, the hunger is beyond imagination. A whole large pizza with tons of toppings was one meal! The hunger was that ferocious! Those hormones take about a year to reset and now you are evaluating your goals. I agree with the above, start with your team. Journal to weigh pros and cons of more surgery or weight loss. Honestly, after month three I realized the rest of the weight loss is entirely up to me. Surgery is not a magic bullet. Weight loss is work no matter how you do it. How hard and consistent is really up to you.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
huskymama replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
4 weeks out tomorrow and saw my nutritionist last Thursday she cleared me to go from purée to soft. It broke my stall and today I am 197.7!! I am still not hitting 1200 calories but I know when I’m full now unlike liquid and purée stage. I had real chicken cooked super soft yesterday and it was so amazing I felt human agin! I’m still eating cottage cheese but I didn’t purée it and I’m not sure when I’ll eat tuna again blah had enough! She also cleared me to eat white potatoes which I usually eat sweet potatoes but the store was out of them. So I had a small Yukon Gold potatoe (no skin) with a very small amount of organic grass fed butter (like real small 1/4 of a teaspoon) and about 1/2 of low fat sour cream topped with some fiesta shredded cheese for added Protein. I ate about 3/4 of it and was super full of course I didn’t eat the skin and I actually pushed off most of the sour cream it was just to much for me. But it was super yummy! Also I am up to 3 miles a day walking. SW 227 Todays weight 197.7 VSG 12/22/2021 -
Hi, I’ve been denied the surgery from a local doctors bc they only do laparoscopic surgery. I’ve had 4 previous abdominal surgeries ( ovarian cancer twice, vertical c section and total hysterectomy), and one laparoscopic gall bladder removal that took 5 hours. Has anyone had luck with old fashion cut open surgery? Or adhesion removal before laparoscopic? I’m 43, 5 ft 8 and 260 lbs! I’ve already had thyroid cancer and it’s removal. I’m kind of desperate here. I decided to order the meals and shakes here hoping it would help me out some. I want to lose weight I NEED to lose weight I just keep hitting a wall

Wow, can’t wait to see your results. That’s pretty good that a few scars will be hidden by the natural crease of the upper leg. I’d love to see before/after pics if you are comfortable with that if you want to PM me. I’m still on the fence bc of how i scar. A scar to the knee on me would be hard to hide-
-
@lizonaplane I’d def get to goal first that way you are in maintenance mode. Bc if you still have more weight you want to lose then you dont want to have to go bk a second time and tuck those loose areas again. That would be expensive for a second time. It’s already expensive once! Lol Let us know how you’re progressing! Sounds like you are really close!

Hey everyone I’m considering my next PS which will be a thigh lift. Just in research mode. Prob a year at least out from that. I’m curious for those who have had thigh lifts if it left your calves loose looking-like thigh is all tight now but calves loose looking. how far down did your surgeon go down the leg? To the knee or was it much higher? Also, looking for pics bc honestly that would be one scar that would be hard to hide and I don’t scar well. Anyone with experience that wouldn’t mind sharing that would be appreciated! Thank you!

Oh I’m not necessarily either. I was just curious bc I know with the pizzas you have to be careful bc some say “cauliflower “ crust when there is only a little cauliflower in it and the rest is flour. Some use only cauliflower. So I was curious when I saw the noodle one. I didn’t realize this when i first started trying cauliflower crust pizza. Which is so yummy!! I had a lot of trial and error in finding one I liked Thanks for the info on the new profile!😊
