  1. Hi all, Anyone have an October 2019 surgery date? Mine is 10/28/19 (my surgeon is away for 2 weeks, so I'm at the end of the month). Oh, the holidays are going to be so weird this year (my birthday too, which is 11/19).

    May 2019 Sleeve

Went for my 3 month post op check...I am happy to report I am down 42 lbs. I feel great!!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. 😕So during my sleeve surgery 6/27/2019 my doctor found a small tumor. It was cancerous and very active. It did not show up on any pre op work, he was literally in the right place at the right time. These past few weeks on top of healing from surgery I have been seeing an oncologist. My doctors worked together with me and decided that going to a gastric bypass and bypassing the part of my pouch that is cancerous is safer than putting me on powerful cancer targeting medicine that I would have to take for the next 3 years, Gleevec. The oncologist told me that my case was about 1 in 1000. Normally people come to him with a huge tumor that is beginning to spread cancer and at that point they have a gastrectomy. My surgeon has also never experienced this where a tumor did not show up on preop but he is against messing with the sleeve at all and would just rather cut all that part out if that makes sense. He said he has seen where making the sleeve smaller leads to more complications vs doing a sleeve to bypass. I flat out asked him if I was being punked. I have not had any major complications from my sleeve, I did have to go to the ER almost at the 6 week mark for sharp pains (turns out I ate tuna too fast). They did a barium swallow and everything looked great with the sleeve no leaks or anything. I regretted my surgery in the first week and I am a little nervous about having surgery again but I’m also glad they found this. If I had chickened out before having the surgery or dropped out of my doctors program like I had done in the past, I would never have known about this tumor growing. I’m feeling a bit meh and blah about it all just thinking about the liquid diet I will have to do all over again 😂 but I’m also trying to remain positive. This site helps a lot so thank you all for your updates, the t.m.i. (Looking at you poop threads,we all need you) , the highs and lows etc. My surgery date is 9/5/2019.
  4. My first post here thanks to a good friend for sharing this app info. Going in for gastric sleeve tomorrow morning. I know you all will understand my excitement and nervousness! I would appreciate any tips or advice you have for a newbie. Thanks guys!
  5. VSG to RNY surgery finally scheduled: September 9, 2019

  6. I know that we are starting to gain momentum in the August club. How is everyone doing? Have you gone back to work yet? How are you getting in your fluids and protein? I was sleeved on Wednesday 8/14. Yesterday was my first day home, and it was rough! I keep sip sip sipping but I know o am falling short on intake. I took a shower by myself just now, and I can get up and down off the sofa and our of my chair with only a moment of sharp pain. I hope everyone else is doing well
  7. I am so proud of myself. Gastric bypass has been a journey and still is. I went from 274lbs my highest to 130lbs... Sent from my LG-M150 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hi everyone!!! RNY scheduled for 8/19/19. I was rescheduled from 8/12/19 due to insurance wanting more info. I’m actually relieved because this extra week is giving me more time to prepare mentally & physically. I was a little freaked out last week but I’m settling in as I check more things off the list . Who else is scheduled for 8/19/19 & How are you doing? 5’2 58 yrs 235 lbs BMI 43
  9. My date is set and I'm thinking to myself - is this really the right thing? Yes, I KNOW it is! I need to be healthy - my joints just ache and other obese issues cause trouble. But, I read over stories all the time here - both good and bad. Then wonder - What if I end up having consequences? And then scary in another way - what happens when I'm thin? (Having not really been anywhere near thin since 15.) Anyway - I just had to put this out there to other understanding souls :)
  10. I’m curious from what I’ve read once you get down past your goal you typically rebound up 5 to 10 pounds or 5 to 10%. Where does that weight settle at? Did it go back to your hips, stomach, chest everywhere?

  15. Day 10 of Pre-op diet. 3 to go plus one day of clear liquids. It's getting so close, I can taste it!

  16. Hello Everyone! I wanted to seek out some advice from you all, as I am worrying about my weight stall/gain. I am currently 10 Weeks Post-Op (2 Months) and I have been exercising (Swimming and Running) everyday for at least 2 hours since I was 3 Weeks Post-Op. I am very responsible with my diet and I carefully watch my portions. 3 days ago I was 251.0 lbs and now I’m back to being 253.8 lbs. Why am I at this weight stall/gain? Am I doing something wrong? I personally feel a lot stronger and I have noticed muscle gain in my arms and legs, but could muscle really make me stall that much? I also had a lot of nerve pain near my biceps last night, could that be due to muscle gain? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you! ❣️
  17. Hey guys. I am 10 days Post Op Sleeve and I am down 27lbs! That awesome to me and scary at the same time. Dr says it great. He did sound a little shocked though. Is this normal? How much weight did you lose in the first week?
  18. After much planning and considering, the date is finally here. Tomorrow is my surgery and in one hand I already miss all the things I love to eat, but I am hopeful about this new phase.

soooo my surgery is on wednesday!! it’s so crazy that it’s already here ! any tips? any advice?
  20. I’m so nervous for my revision surgery! It’s scheduled in just a couple weeks. If you’ve done this- how much different is the post-op experience? I have terrible GERD, and have had only a small amount of weight loss.

  22. 1998: Went to Sweden for a Gastric Band (Disaster... but I did not know until....) Woke up with a 10 inch scar on my stomach. What? Why? Never got a real answer 1999: Band was to be maintained in Washington State. The Drs said there was something wrong. I felt a lot of discomfort and could not eat anything. 2000: Band removed (I think) and RNY performed. Medical notes mention the band was wrapped up and twisted in scar tissue. I only read that years later. 2000 to 2010: I did not follow any instructions, rarely took my vitamins, never monitored vitamins. I was an idiot. Ended up with Osteoporosis and needed iron transfusions. Actually had to go for a blood transfusion in 2009. Oh... and a fractured pelvis. 2010 - 2019: Worked on learning to eat better, take better care of myself. Went to see a therapist about my issues and made some small and big changes. Began an off and on relationship with the gym, kayaking, paddle boarding. Became healthier, reversed the osteoporosis and brought my iron up to good levels. I struggle with my weight. Up and down, 209 high, 175 low. Back and forth. Driving me insane. Too many clothes in my closet in three different sizes. A friend, an 82 year old woman, told me about Dr. Lopez in Guadalajara and how he completed a revision for her. She finally lost that final 50 pounds. She looks fantastic and feels great. I met two other people who had Gastric Sleeve surgeries with Dr. Lopez. I made an appointment and now I am scheduled for a revision. It will cost around $6,500 dollars. I am really working hard in scraping the money up together. Gave up going out and doing anything the last three months and will whip out the charge card (4% extra). I am excited and I have been working hard, reading books, watching videos, recording everything I eat. Testing out protein shakes and working on smaller portions. I will have had 6 weeks of this before I begin the 2 week pre surgical diet. I have been working out four days a week in the gym. I am strong and happy. I feel beautiful, having once weighed much, much more than I do. I have no pain, and no physical or medical problems such a High BP or Diabetes. I just want to settle on ONE SIZE and feel a little more comfortable on my bike. Oh.... and get off those stupid pills for Acid Reflux. I swear, I am going to do that and Dr. Lopez will help me. I am crossing my fingers. So, I am 62 years old and I weigh 199.999999 pounds (Ha, just made it under 200 this morning). I hope to be at my goal weight of 145 by this time next year. Heck, I will settle for more. Just want to fit in to my "skinny" wardrobe (175lbs) and give away the rest. My closet broke this year!
