  1. I was pretty much stuck most of the month of March. When I went from liquids to mushies I figured I was going to stall for a bit but I increased my exercise to make up for the additional calories that I was getting. During the liquid phase I was probably eating/drinking around 400-500 calories. Once I got to the mushie phase I was eating/drinking about 600-800 calories and now that I'm on pretty much regular food I eat anywhere from 800-1200 calories, depending on the day and my activity level. I was stuck at 260 from the end of February until March 15. However, I stuck with everything that I was doing with my eating plan. I followed my doctor's plan about 95% of the time which includes eating 2-3 oz. of dense protein first, 2-3 bites of potatoes or mushy veg and eating every 3 hours. I kept my exercise level consistent except for 1-2 days per week when I increased my time at the gym by about 10 minutes. I've lost 2 pounds in 2 days this week and I didn't go to the gym at all this week yet! I've been taking 15 minute walks with my dog at night, I did a Zumba DVD in the morning and yesterday I took my son to the museum and we walked around and played for about 2 hours. I was too tired last night to do an exercise video and somehow, I dropped another pound! So I think the thing about stalls is to remain consistent. If there is something in your diet that needs tweaking, like maybe getting too many carbs or not enough carbs, go ahead and tweak it but following the doctor's plan does seem to work for most people. Of course, I was banded for almost 10 years so I think that has helped me with certain eating rules like chewing food really well and slowing down to eat. The biggest rule that I have a hard time with is not drinking while eating as I get pretty thirsty when I'm eating. The thing I learned while being banded is that it doesn't really matter how long it took me to lose weight, what mattered was that I had a difficult time keeping the weight off once I lost it. I am more concerned with long-term diet and exercise changes than losing weight quickly. When I lose it, I want it to stay lost!! Good luck to those of you struggling~
  2. Quick question. I was supposed to start full liquids today, although I really started like 4 days ago because I've been way too active to stick to Clear Liquids. I've tolerated everything very well. I'm wondering now if I can have use fresh strawberries and blueberries with a bit of Protein powder to make a fruit smoothie. Or would that be pushing it?? TIA! Kristin
  3. I am new, just joined today, although I pop on and read some of your posts now and then. I have a great doctor who just moved from the east coast and he is waiting for his privileges to practice. Hence, my surgery is about 2 weeks out. I will find out the date this week. And Monday I am planning to start the two week preop diet. Originally wanted the lap band, found out I wasn't a good candidate then decided on the sleeve until I changed my mind and wanted the Duodenal Switch. Chickened out of that one, and feel like a flake now. Back to the Sleeve now, and I think I am settled on it for sure. My story is probably the same as hundreds of you all's...Was thin my entire life, (born a premie at 4#) and started gaining at 19 with the birth control pill, and subsequent pregnancies. Yo yo dieting, start/stop smoking, rich foods, lack of exercise...the usual stuff-- brought me to 350 today. I have recently lost 30 (since March) but am trying so hard to not gain any of it back before the surgery, although it fluctuates daily, mostly in the right direction. I have been researching wt loss surgery and discussing it with my dear sweet husband (#2) for a couple years. And now, while I am between jobs (got laid off in March) no insurance hoops to jump through since I lost my insurance with the job, the timing is perfect. financing out of pocket so I will take any money saving tips you all can give me. :001_tongue: I am wondering if anyone actually loses 200 on a sleeve? I am 5'10 large frame and large muscles under a whole lot of fat tissue. If I get down to 150 I am probably looking at being a size 14. Not the 2-8's I see here, but I won't be discouraged. I am afraid of plateauing out. Still, even when I get to 200, I will feel like I have a new lease on life. Co-morbidities...how much time do you have? Severe sleep apnea (diagnosed a year ago) Pre-diabetic with a long family hx of it Neuropathy in arms and legs B/P creeping upwards GERD & Hiatal Hernia I left some things off, but you get the idea. A ticking time bomb just the same. I used to love cooking, but now I just dread it. And my husband loves eating. He is 6'2 250# could stand to lose about 30 so he has recently been trying to eat better while I am on my better eating habits. I have two major goals 1.) to be and feel healthier 2.) I know I might be too sensitive, but I am so tired of the cruelty and want it to go away with the weight. I don't know what possesses people to think they can treat obese folks like we're not human, but I am fed up. And after tolerating abuse my entire adult life (even from my first husband) I am so not looking forward to being abused for my decision to do something about it and take radical action. I have heard horror stories of the cruelty for making this decision. Anyone care to share their thoughts on that with me? So I am reluctant to tell many people I am doing this. Ok, enough of my random thoughts...I'd love to hear from you all. Anxious to start melting (and scared to death), ~GeorgieGirl1957
  4. I started my journey on May 13, 2013 which was my first appointment with my surgeon and I was at my highest weight ever 244. Today as I did my weigh I was 195, and I am actually 1lb away from my 2nd milestone which is 50 lbs. I am sooooo excited, feeling good , and rocking my sleeve.
  5. I had VSG surgery on 12/16. Since 12/23 I have lost and gained the same 4 pounds. I get on the scale a few times a week. Today it was back up to the highest. I'm beyond frustrated even though there is nothing I can do about it. I'm doing my best to get 60-75g of Protein in a day, drinking my 64 oz. of Water, and working out a few times a week (though my workouts are a bit lame). I KNOW that the stall at 3 weeks is a real thing but I'm still getting so discouraged by this. After surgery I had a heart attack - its been a really difficult road for me. I'm starting to feel more normal and get into a groove with things. But I'm so scared by this stall. Anyone else have a stall so early on. I mean that isn't even 10 days after surgery and I stalled. I'll be a month out on Tuesday - WTH. HELP?

    TWO month stall!

I was sleeved on 12/8 and have lost 33 pounds. I know stalls happen and are normal, but TWO months? Seriously? I'm getting my Protein and Water, watching carbs and nothing is moving. I've even stopped seeing a change in clothes and other NSVs. I'm tapering off Cymbalta and to offset the horrible withdrawals, my Dr put me on Prozac until I'm off Cymbalya completely. Since then, I have been insanely hungry and it's been super hard not to graze. When I do, I try to make sure I'm eating some turkey or a cheese stick, even a few almonds. I also tore the meniscus in my right knee and haven't been able to excercise. I'm having surgery on it in 2 weeks, so it'll be even longer before I can start working out again. It's like a perfect storm of road blocks and it's SO hard not to get frustrated and feel like I'm failing this great opportunity.
  7. Yesterday was 6 weeks post TT/LBL, which meant I no longer have to wear my compression garment. I didn't wear it to work (which turned into an 11 hour day), and within an hour I just started feeling weird… not bad, just weird. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it kind of felt like my skin wanted to come apart at the seams! When I finally got home, I immediately (right after I checked to make sure that I hadn't actually split in half… incision looks fine!) put my compression garment back on & felt much better! I'm totally ok wearing this for as long as I need to, but I'm wondering how long it was before other folks felt ok without.

    How I Broke My Stall

Hi my fellow sleevers! I thought this was very important to share since it broke my 6 day stall. I understand that people have different diets according to the doctor who sleeved you, but I think your body also plays a great part in this stall. So you need to listen to it. My doctor's daily diet for me was the following: scrambled egg white (I use eggbeaters) with any veggies fruit in mid morning chicken or fish for lunch with a little portion of veggies or lentil/ beans/ chickpeas Soup yogurt at mid-afternoon 4 oz of Protein shake for dinner another fruit 2 hours before bed I did this to the T and it wasn't working. I had lost 9.8 pounds my first week and only 2 pounds my second week. Now I was stalling. I had read everyone's posts and was ready to go back to my liquid diet as one of our sleeved guys suggested (his dr. or nurse had told him to do that when stalling). But then I remembered that back in the day when the "anti-diet" came along (eat lots fruit only before 2 pm, amongst other rules) and I tried it, I hadn't lost any weight. Every diet I went on that involved too many fruits never worked for me. So, I did what usually worked for me. All protein, all day. I had 3 turkey pastrami slices (they are really small) with a tablespoon of hummus (it only has about 4 carbs) instead of my Snacks and dinner. AND VOILA! I lost 1 pound each day that I did this and broke my stall. I do plan on telling my doctor. But I thought I'd share it with you first. I don't know what he'll say. Maybe you should talk to yours before you try this if you want to try it, but I doubt eating all protein all day is bad for you (if you are having your Vitamins and minerals, etc.). HOPE IT HELPS!
  9. Thanks to all those that I've met online, on the phone, or at the N. Van support groups. You made this a positive experience. Off to TJ on Wednesday and banded on Thursday. I, coincidentally, will be there with three Albertans. Scott:thumbup:
  10. This has been rough between 6 days in icu to this recovery is no joke but overall once I'm back to 100% it will all be worth it still have some swelling and pain just where the remaining drain is (left is out) right is still in and bleeding around 40-70 ml a day Overall I'm so excited went from almost 400 pounds in 4/5x shirts down to and XL and slimming I can wait to get rid of my tummy once I am approved to get into the gym no turning back now
  11. Help y'all, I'm stuck at the same weight for about a week now, which seems really weird, and discouraging! Any suggestions? Anyone experience this?
  12. I was fine last week but now I am feeling hunger pangs. What can I do? I am on full liquids. Any advice? Lauren 326/318/175 Dr. Bertha 1/24/05
  13. My surgery was on July 27. I lost 26 lbs science 1 week pre-op diet, but now my weight doesn't change during last week at all. I follow all rules, I walk a lot, but nothing changes. Is it normal?
  14. Did great the first six months, now haven't lost anything the past 2 months, just losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. I am so not looking forward to my next appt. with my surgeon on June 22. I am so embarrased that I may not even have lost a pound by then. Everyone talks about the 3 week stall and the 3 month stall. Anybody experience a stall in the later months? Help! Ducker
  15. I "slimed" again today. I only do it when I eat too fast. 10 weeks post op, I can't believe I am still doing this! I have gotten very good about measuring the AMOUNT I can eat... But it seems like - especially when distracted like at work - I can easily just ... eat... and before I know it, I have this pain in my chest that is only relieved by regurgitating SLIME. I assume I am sliming because I am not throwing up what I ate - just...well, SLIME. I feel dirty and ashamed afterwards. You know how a dog will hurk up his dinner and then look at you all embarassed? (before re-eating it) How long before I get this under control? I feel like I am learning - I only THROW UP after eating one bite too many... and have gotten much better about avoiding that...but if I eat too fast, I slime. I have read some posters have NEVER thrown up... I guess I should feel lucky I never got dumping syndrome - that sounds awful.
  16. I was in a stall for almost 4 weeks. Mind you I had my VSG on 8/2/16 so not even three months ago. I was -30 pounds for everrrrrrrr. I finally broke free and I'm -40 pounds as of today. It happens. Dont stress or obsess. I did both. And self sabotaged at times. But I worked through the emotions and got a stomach bug (ha, lost two pounds bc of that). Some days I don't feel like I look different. That may take a while. But I feel different. And I genuinely feel like if I never lost a pound ever again (god I hope not) but I wouldn't regret this surgery. Because of this surgery I have lost 40 pounds. Wow. 17. Hello All, I had surgery two weeks ago and all appears well. I have been a little aggressive on the 'pace' of moving from clear liquids to full liquids to pureed/soft foods ~ but always very limited quantities [measured by the tablespoon]. I've never had any stomach pain or weird feelings so I hope everything is OK in there. After surgery my doctor said my port was right in the center... under my under-wire bra band. I can see the incision but I don't think I can feel the port. Can someone tell me what the port should feel like? I'm also feeling a little guilty about not following exactly the diet and I'm afraid I might have done something to impact the band. Anyone else have consequences of not behaving? Can you please share? I'm starting to get a little paranoid! Thanks in advance for your input!
  18. Im 4 weeks post op and not doing well with the diet. I need motivation and a gym partner STAT. Im a mom in the Baldwin area if anyone wants to give this OA (overeater) some guidance and mentoring.

    1 week before surgery

  20. Today is my week two I've been following the plan quite well. I have entered the soft foods phase. I had two and a half ounces of an egg this morning and two and a half ounces of tuna fish this afternoon. I felt like the day was going well however this evening I've snacked and overdid it far too much. I'm extremely uncomfortable how about I haven't thrown up. I'm quite scared that I did damage could I stretch out my pouch in just one day or can I get it back together tomorrow. I'm feeling considerably defeated and incredibly disgusted with myself. I'm going to go back to straight liquids tomorrow to try to even everything out. My fear is that I've eaten too much too soon and I've stretched my sleeve, is that possible to do in just one day?
  21. Had my two week post op appointment today! I’m 21 lbs down 🤗 making me 178!! I’m cleared to workout minus heavy lifting and abs!! I have one more week on liquids and then I can fully enjoy soft foods!! I tolerate water really well. Actually nothing really makes feel bad. Energy is back and my incisions are almost non visible!!! Only 38 lbs left until I’m at my goal!!!
  22. One week away from surgery, about to smoke the last cigarette and . That will be tough but I am determined. Had to do a will today, and that makes it so real. Getting a little nervous, but still soooo ready. Week dragging cause I have not been working. Ready for the count down, hoping all surgeries this week go great !!!!
  23. Had surgery August 1, all went well and surgeon fixed a small hiatal hernia at same time. I've had no real pain and for that, I am very thankful. I am still extremely week! One week out I saw PCP and tests showed I was anemic(no surprise) and I had H-pylori-stomach infection. Until then I was able to get liquids in and close to 90 gr of protein. Put me on 3 meds for two weeks to get rid of h-pylori, Now I can hardly stomach anything. Very difficult to get liquids in. I can eat mashed potatoes and gravy, pimento cheese, and today, cottage cheese. Liquids make me sick but I'm trying to get down.....protein shakes are a no-go! I do put unflavored protein in everything I eat. I can also do pudding, yogurt, jello, and SF popsicles. I am on mushies...but nothing tastes tolerable with this medicine. I started back to college and I am a walking wimp! Brain fog, and so weak I feel like I can fall out at any time. Please suggest something to eat that might help with energy. I am barely getting those chewable vitamins down. Also eating 2 calcium bars a day. I have B-12 patches, and liquid B-12 and taking Vitamin D twice a week. You'd think Iwould be bouncing off the walls, but I'm dragging my butt from one day and on. P.S. I'm 53 years old. I have lost 20lbs as of yesterday. Happy for that but, I need to get back into my life. Thanks for suggestions! Wishing everyone else well!
  24. Hi all I hope you are all well and still successiding With new life one week down many more to go keep up the good work I don't regret any decision in my life because at the end I will make it work
