Okay. I'm going to try again.
bitteroldhag replied to bitteroldhag's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all of this advice. I will take it to heart and do something. I notice that my pouch empties pretty fast so I'll try to quit drinking during meals. But I may need a little fill, maybe 2 cc. I'll call my nurse and check it out. Also I will try to get some liquid medicine, though I have to take so many pills in the morning, it's ridiculous. Heart trouble, high blood pressure, many, many allergies, etc. But I really appreciate you all. -
I Had my LB surgery on Wednesday 8/9. I have not felt hungry...only thirsty. I am concentrating on the Water and the Protein shakes. Is my loss of appetite due to the stoma? when will it return? I feel like a failure because I can't eat the three meals the dietician typed out for me. Also, how fast or slow should I be drinking the water. Like how long should it be before I finish a cup of water? Please help anyone.:help::help:

Emotional eating and food addiction
Healthy_life2 replied to GreenTealael's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are right. It's wise to make eating healthy sustainable long term. Many healthy options at fast food places. Low carb burger, grilled chicken, salads. etc... -
I had to do 14 days of liquid diet. I got to drink one Slim fast and 5 cans of Ensure each day with two Dannon lite yogurts. I paced it like one item every two hours and that keep the hunger pains away. I started dropping weight right away and lost 20 pounds oin the pre-op diet. SO that helped me along. Plus I got to really like the Ensures and now can't wait to get to senior citizen statis so I can have them again..lol Was on liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery but got to add things to it and I did this whole liquid diet without cheating once and it went a long way in helping me adjust to new habits. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted

It sounds like it is working to me. How much are you eating? More than a half cup? Do you know what causes the episodes you do have? Are you eating too fast or too much when they happen?

Has anyone been to Knott's Berry Farm or Greatest America? We are taking the kids and I want to go on the rides too! Are you allowed to go fast or be upside down? Strange I know but, better be safe then sorry. My surgeon is off for vacation so I can't ask. Anyone know?

I don't know - I'm still able to eat anything, just much less than I used to. Everything goes down. LOL The only thing I can say I'm turned off of since getting banded is Wendy's french fries. Goodness, I used to love those things. The first 3 months after banding I was so good and didn't have any fast food at all. Tried a Wendy's combo and the fries were so greasy, I felt like I was drinking from the grease vat. Oh, it was gross...I thought I was going to be sick. LOL As long as I remind myself to chew a ton and take very small swallows, everything goes down okay.

Is this a stall or my set point weight?
Katbad replied to LaLaDee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the past when I had been banded for 1 year I stalled for quite awhile. I was also textbook perfect on my diet. My answer was to amp up my exercise. I started the couch to 5k learn to run program. Over 10 weeks I progressed from 30 seconds of running to 20 minutes nonstop and then in one more week I was running 45 min nonstop and doing 5km. This chewed through the stall and got me to my goal. Fast forward 10 years and a slipped band and arthritis, I’ve now regained most. My VGS surgery is this week. I know I’ll have stalls again, without the ability to run. So I’m going to swim instead. My advice - keep going on your nutrition plan and amp up the fitness. -
My face especially and my hair isn’t shedding very much at 2 1/2 months post op. Nails strong again as well. I’m doing intermittent fast 14 -10 which also is suppose improve the saggy skin.

Keep us posted! My surgeon doesn't do a leak test. He thinks the nausea caused by the stuff you swallow is worse than (according to the physician's assistant who gave me this stat) the 1% of his patients who've had leaks. Anyway odds lean towards too fast eating and not the leak. Crossing my fingers for you!

Worried on day of my surgery!

I was certain I would be but everything moved so fast I didn’t have time. They gave me the sedative right before they took me and I was out like a light . -
Am I Losing Enough?
HondaCivicDude replied to HondaCivicDude's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon only talked to me for five min total and nut for 15 min signing waivers and 2 min post op basically handing me hard to understand but I didn't really need detailed instruction because I get the gist I feel I'll b good here on because the solids r taking care of my constant eating and easier to get in protein as I hate protein shakes and had a struggle getting any protein in .....maybe that contributed to me not losing as fast as I was hoping? -
Pouch already stretched at 6 weeks out?
AnnaValenka posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I've been feeling like I'm eating too much, and think I'm already going back to my old bad habits, my NUT program says Protein shake for Breakfast and dinner, a 1cup size of a kinda regular meal at noon (very little carbs and fat) and 2 Snacks in between (fruit). The problem is, I can't stand the flavor of the Protein Shake, I made my own recipe of a high protein dessert which is made of 1 scoop of Protein powder (24 grams) + Greek yogurt (12.9) + milk powder (7.8) + cocoa powder or frozen strawberries and I have it once a day, besides that I try to eat as much protein as I can even in snacks. I know some of you will call me crazy but I feel hunger since 2-3 weeks ago, and I eat mostly out of hunger, let's say, lentils Soup for breakfast 1 cup, fruit with yogurt for snack, my regular lunch (1 cup), protein dessert and another soup or meat for dinner, some times I have a double snack. I don't really have so much trouble with my liquids, 84 Oz, most of the time half Water half 2% milk because I don't like the taste of water. My waiting time between eat - drink - eat is about 10 minutes, some times less without consequences. I stalled at week 3, had dumping syndrome once because I forgot I'm not allowed to have sugary drinks and once out of refried Beans ( and I mean real Mexican REFRIED beans), learned the lesson and never suffered again. I've been losing very slowly for the last 2 week's and I want to know if any of you heard about a stretched pouch this early. I had a gastric bypass last April 29th, initial weight 308, current weight 266. It sounds a lot for 6 weeks, am I living this too fast? Sent from my Sony Xperia -
11/3/08 I am hungry, but the thought of eating anything about makes me want to puke. I finally broke down and bought some liquid protien. 42g in 3 ounces. I had to. I couldn't get enough in. I can't even drink enough. I'm trying. I got over 60 gms of protein in with that. I bought six to last me about the next week. I am supposed to be able to start transitioning to soft food the day after tomorrow but I have decided to try some egg beaters tomorrow. A day early, but I want to try. I just can’t get enough calories or protein down. I caught my family physician up on the fact that I had surgery. He kind of figured it out since his wife was one of the two I mentioned I had surgery to. I was planning to let him know when I had a chance at work anyway. He and my husband are the only two around that knows what kind of surgery I had. He was surprised I had it so fast. I only mentioned it to him in September. Self pay moves a lot faster. Besides when I make up my mind I am not one to fiddle-fart around. (Wow did I really just use that phrase?) This is my first day without Lortab. I about started crying tonight; the left shoulder pain was so bad, but I laid down on my back on the floor for about 10 minutes and it really toned down the pain. I don’t know why that helps and I don’t really care. By the way…I still don’t regret my decision not to tell anyone. You see I can always change my mind and let people in on my decision, but once the cat is out of the bag……… Keeping this a secret is for me. It is personal. I'm not saying it is for everyone. I think I have to come to terms with the fact that I couldn’t handle this monster called obesity by myself. I need to be okay with the fact that I needed surgery. Not wanted surgery, but NEEDED it. I needed it for me. I needed it for my personal life. I needed it for my self-confidence. I needed it for many different reasons. When I decide to let others in on it then I will. Maybe never….maybe soon. I think that will depend on my journey.

Goin On My 3Rd Week Post Op
racheal218 replied to wabbitninja's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had my surgery on 3/6 and I'm still only allowed full liquids- totally jealous. I can't start mushies until next week but I'm totally in love with isopure alpine punch. One bottle is 40grams of protein. They're pricy but less than I used to pay for one trip through the fast food line:) -
Sometimes after fills you are swollen and can not just do 24 hours of liquids but more then that. If you are still fresh post op losing weight fast is nothing to worry about. You're not worried about nutrition at this point you are worried about healing. We all have had plenty of fat to sustain us when we were in the post op phase.

Dear Food, You Annoy Me
Cynthia E.C. commented on goal_will_be_met's blog entry in goal_will_be_met's Blog
I totally understand- more than you know I understand and more than I wish I did I UNDERSTAND!!! I am to food, what a drug addict is to food and what an alcohol is to an alcoholic. I too have been going to see a counselor. I have used food as a drug of choice, a means of celebration, a way to grieve and a way to express myself, abuse myself and love myself. I have been overweight all my life. At 53 I know to well the hell that comes from obesity from infancy through midlife. I am so thankful for the lap band but it is not the end all, be all and do all. I have suffered from a twisted band because I threw up so much and had to have it redone. I still throw up often, usually from eating too fast, too often and too much. I have managed to lose 60 pounds. I had lost 80 but I have gained 20 back. I am now struggling with blood sugar problems. I have severe weak spells. This fat girl works out hard and often. I spin, do weight lifting, yoga, body pump, use various cardio machines and walk. I think I actually work out too much. I use to work out 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes. Now I am down to 3-4 days a week for 90 minutes. I would love to know if anyone works out a lot and has a problem. I am wondering if I should cut my workouts down, add fluid to my band and try to get the added weight off. I am lost, depressed, and overwhelmed. PLEASE HELP!!!!! -
I've been banded a little over a year now, April 6,2009, and got just 3.6 cc's in my 10 cc band, and I've also noticed that when I eat too fast that I get the hiccups !! I thought I was the only one and often wondered what it meant ! They don't hurt in fact it I feel better after I hiccup for a few minutes. Good luck to you guys on your journey !!

Cranky sleeve: need some advice please
Itsanot99 replied to mchap25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know this sounds wierd but try wendys chili, mush it with a fork and chew it well. I swear it was the only thing that I could deal with for about 2 weeks. I have a wonderful copy cat recipe for it if it works for you!! I hate sugar free anything, will not eat anything that is sugar free. Look up infused water recipes they may help you also. I am not loosing weight as fast as others but I am not getting sick either. I am 30 pounds down since 5-11-15 -
I definately spend way more time cooking, shopping and planning meals. Before surgery I was always eating junk and fast food, now I am playful to make sure I have the proper groceries and I have had to learn to cook differently. I live on Pinterest finding recipes that I can use as a base and then tweak it to make it Bariatric friendly.

Lap Band 9/2007 by Dr Spivak in Houston: 20 lb weight loss immediately after band. Lost another 60 with running, boot camp, exercise and benefit of band as tool to eat less. Reached weight of 135 and felt great, but intermittent episodes of severe restriction, vomiting. Dr Spivak had moved out of the country and his website directed his patient to the physicians at TLC Surgery in Houston. Made an appointment with Dr Sherman Yu. Found out in July that my esophagus and pouch were dilated and i had reflux esophagitis (asymptomatic). All Fluid had to be removed from band and I returned to bad habits. Gained 50 lbs back and felt miserable. I was approved for band removal and revision to sleeve right away, but I chickened out and canceled my surgery in February thinking I could do it on my own. Wrong! i rescheduled and had my revision on 5/12/14 at Park Plaza Hospital. In the hospital, I received IV acetaminophen, dilaudid PCA and the On-Q painbuster ball. I walked 4 hrs after surgery and went home around noon the next day. The staff at PPH was amazing. Dr Yu gave me prescriptions for pain and nausea meds at my preop appt so it would be available when I got home from the hospital. He also is using new compounded lotions/creams for scar, nausea and pain which I am using as well. It is pod#4 today and feel great!! Of course, I have some incisional pain, but I really cannot complain at all. The last time I took pain meds was 2 days ago. I was sent home with the On-Q pain ball and removed it myself on pod#2. No nausea or vomiting, able to drink without problems. I drove myself to the movies yesterday and walked 2 miles today. I hope I'm not speaking too soon and jynxing myself, but I really don't think so. I just wanted to put a positive experience out there for those folks who have heard the horror stories. Best of luck to all!

Anxiety and depression
FrankyG replied to bluenena2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. Many on here have experienced exactly those feelings. The "what did I just do to myself" feeling right after surgery is pretty awful since you get really caught up feeling you made a mistake and that can lead to amplifying the depression and anxiety. But it is normal, and you will be happy soon enough again. While the regret goes away pretty fast, the depression, anxiety and other mental issues may linger. Fat stores hormones like estrogen. As you start really losing weight, that fat will flush those hormones back into your bloodstream and result in a hormone flood. That hormone dump is one of the reasons doctors caution women of childbearing age to be on a VERY safe form of birth control. It also can cause wild mood swings, anger and irritability and uncontrollable bouts of weeping and depression. Being aware that this is possible is quite important so you can let your friends/family know you might have a difficult time sometimes and also so you can be aware when you start feeling like you are going to blow up or need comforting/help, you can let someone know and not suffer alone. -
Hello everyone, I'm just here wondering what the process was for others. I am currently starting my 4th week post op. So far I've lost approximately 16 pounds. For me I guess I feel like maybe this is significantly low... but others tell me not. My question for everyone is when did your weight loss begin to pick up? I'm on solids now, and can barely eat 1 or 2 bites before I'm full. I'm also having trouble getting my water in, just because when I drink it still hurts. The water gets stuck in my esophagus before finally going into my stomach. So most days I'm only getting in 40oz of water. I'm hoping it gets better!! Pre-op I was peeing 6-7 times a day, now I'm lucky if I'm going twice. I hope once I'm fully healed it gets better but it's been rough getting in my protein since I get full so fast. Any thoughts or recommendations are welcomed! Please and thank you.

Reached goal WITHOUT a Fill?!?!?!?!
LilMissDiva Irene replied to wstorms's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
texas, sliming and PB'ng (Productive Burp) are terms used here to describe what bandsters endure from eating too fast or too big bites, or simply being too tight. She wasn't using it in the way you thought. The OP never said she didn't have restriction. She DOES have restriction without a fill. I HAD restriction before my first fill (though it didn't last long), and there are a great many who do. Because you did not does not mean that is how it is for everyone. If you already have manageable restriction with your band, and you are not hungry too soon between meals then there is no good reason to get your band any tighter. Those are the only two things the band is designed to do. It is not meant for you to choke on your food and prevent you from eating or even drinking. I have known people to be so tight they couldn't even drink. Sometimes if you chance it too much, you can prevent yourself from ever finding that sweet spot. I guess what I'm trying to say here is, better to take your time, get small fills or none at all if you don't need it. It in NO WAY means you never needed the band in the first place. -
My liquid diet wasn't entirely liquid--I had two shakes and a light dinner. Didn't lose any weight to speak of on it, but did lose 25 pounds pre-surgically before that. Doctor never mentioned my liver post-op. As has been said many times before, we're all different and our programs require different things. Do what your surgical team says and be confident that things will work out as they should. It's a long road . . . but change is coming fast!
