Did any of you keep your surgery a secret? I have! Please give input!
Khoric Ritter replied to Freedom&Bliss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Last year when I was talking about it, I posted it publicly to friends and family. I got A LOT of kick back. Even to the point of losing a friend or two. (*shrugs* true colors showing) Fast forward to now, and I have the funds saved up to have the sleeve done. My husband and mother are the only ones in family who know. My co-workers know, because being with them 50 hours a week, they are an awesome support team. As far as friends, there is a select handful that I have told, only due to 2 of them actually having bypass/sleeve and them offering to mentor and help as needed. I was blindsided on how people are about the operation. It seemed like either they were 100% for it, or 100% not. Very few looked at the fact that its something for my health. I was blind sided by those who gave me so much grief for thinking about getting it done. Its an odd fine line. And if you come across those who you do tell and they are majorly supportive and helpful. Cling to them with major hugs. -
Surgery 1/9- localized pain in lower tummy
Isabelmonster replied to Liz2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did this on my lower left hand side of my tummy. I went and got up to quickly and tearing is what I felt accompanied by a burning feeling in the area went to my doctor he said it was fine and normal because of the movement I was making. Told to take it easy maybe your moving way to fast or shifting your body in positions where itโs still tender. Take it easy and move at a slower pace. -
Diet Doctor - Keto plan
DaisyChainOz replied to DaisyChainOz's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
Just an update, been doing the diet doctor plan (more or less, somethings I don't like) combined with 16/8 Intermittent fasting (don't eat breakfast and have lunch around 12.30 - 1 or later some days. Still drinking a lot of wine (new job very stressful!!) which is something I am going to have to address, it's hard as both hubby and I love drinking and chatting after work. Going quite well with it, I find low carb doesn't make me cravey or hungry so it usually works. Have lost 3.9kg which is approx 8.6lbs (probably mostly water weight I know, but I'll take it!) For lunch today (day off) I didn't follow the plan, just had a home made sushi bowl with hot smoked salmon and cauli rice... should have gotten an after photo as I didn't eat it all. Tonight is meant to be Pizza omlette, but we don't want that, so we are going to have chicken skillet with mushrooms... sounds really good, I might post a photo if I remember lol -
Starting to think its heart burn the meds seemed to have kicked in and the "hunger pain" is pretty much gone. I looked through yesterday's menu and couldn't find anything that may have triggered this. Will have to put it a really hard work out at the gym soon to burn off the extra calories I ate today and will do a 16-8 fast the next couple of days. Thankfully I didn't overdo it too much, and ate foods that are "on my plan" Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? Whatโs your stats?
scorpioscuba replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was 12/28 and I'm down a little over 19 lbs. I just got out of the 3 week stall that lasted about 9 days. It was torture!! I do have to make sure I keep up on my water. I'm still on purees until this Saturday then I move to "soft foods." I'm looking forward to that after a month of liquids and purees. But I'm mostly not all that hungry and I get full so fast. I can eat about 2 oz of refried beans or ricotta with marinara sauce and I'm done. I still do a lot of protein shakes to get my protein in. I use it in my coffee and always bring a shake with me in the car when I'm out and about. -

So sorry to hear that you had complications. It will get better-everyone here can attest to that fact. Donโt let the pain get away from you-every time youโre due medication-ask for it. When you get home youโll be surprised at how fast youโre able to transition to liquid Tylenol. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Itโs uphill from here. -

Food Before and After Photos

Gochujang chicken lettuce wraps again. Gochujang burns fast so cooking it on the stove yesterday was a pain. Today I decided to try cooking it with the ninja foodi and OMGGGGG sooo good! What a difference! The marinade stuck to the chicken well without burning and the chicken held itโs juice. I think Iโm going to be eating this the rest of the week. Tasted just like the spicy chicken thighs from Korean bbq ๐ Now all Iโm missing is some kimchi... -
VSG to RNY revision for GERD--Hunger question
Foxbins posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my sleeve done and a hiatal hernia repair in 2011 and reached goal in about 11 months. I lost 100 lbs and have kept it off ever since. Fast forward nine years and I have esophagitis, an esophageal stricture, another hernia, and crazy bad GERD. My surgeon has presented me with two options. Option one, keep my sleeve as it is, but partially cut through the muscles of the esophagus to ease the stricture and then fold some of the stomach inward (like rolling the top of a sock inside itself) to keep the acid in my stomach. Or Option two, convert to a RnY. I love, love, love my sleeve because afterwards I had no hunger. None. And it's still gone, I can go all day if I am busy without eating and only remember if I start to get lightheaded or cranky. So, people who lost their hunger with VSG and had to convert to RnY, did your hunger stay lost? If you were at goal, how much weight did you lose? My BMI is 22, I can't lose too much more. I am dreading another surgical recovery and those awful protein drinks, too. Thanks for reading! -
I did intermittent fasting and calorie tracking on my fitness pal, shooting for at or under 2000 calories per day. I also started exercising 4 to 5 days a week. I think working out really helped with my recovery from surgery.

My Plastic Surgery Thread
sillykitty replied to sillykitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Six weeks post op checking in! My LBL incision is progressing nicely. Starting 2 or so weeks ago, I started feeling/hearing some "pops" along my incision line. The internal sutures were giving way (like there were supposed to) and the raised pie crust incision was flat where I could feel he "pop". It was very satisfying to feel/hear/see that. I am now all flattened out except for a few inches the very front, on top of my mons. Weepiness at the crack continues. It is my biggest frustration. It seems to have stalled, and has not closed any amount that I can tell. I am considering pursuing some wound care locally to encourage healing. But anxious if my insurance will cover. I think a bill for a hyperbaric chamber would be sizable! Some good news, it's at least no longer smelly. I think the silver gauze has taken care of that at least. Breasts are progressing, slowly. My left has dropped significantly. It just needs to fall into the bottom fleshy part of my breast (called fluffing), and it will be complete. My right breast is stubbornly stuck high. I've been wearing a band a massaging periodically to encourage it to relax. It presents some unique wardrobe issues. Next week my professional dressing life starts again, which will be interesting. Swelling persists, ugh! Mine is pretty consistent, it never goes away, it just lessens occasionally. It's uncomfortable, and makes me feel like I am stretched and sore. I'm waiting on some super compression gear to arrive. My old faux spanx aren't up to the task. My swollen belly is hard vs, my extra skin belly was squishy. Further complicates dressing professionally. My incisions are still a bit scabby and crusty in spots. I'm holding off on scar tape for now. I have started using bio oil. I know it has a lot of proponent here and elsewhere. But I'm skeptical personally. It means something to me that silicone is the only proven scar treatment. Also, bio oil has a terrible old lady rose scent, gag. I started on my facial treatments I bought during the pre Xmas Goupon sale. First I did the laser resurfacing, as it should be a pretty major deal that take a week to recover from. Well, it was like absolutely nothing happened. So I'm working on getting a refund on that since they've given me the run around when I asked for a redo. I had Botox of my crows feet and filler in my nasolabial folds done yesterday. Botox was super fast and easy. It will take about a week to see the results. The filler was a little longer and more painful. I am surprised by how swollen and bruised I am. It is definitely not a lunch hour type procedure. But I think I'm going to really like those results once it settles in about a week. More vanity treatments planned for this week, hydrodermabrasian & eyelash extensions. I've gone down the rabbit hole I'm afraid! -

What type of surgery did you have? I had cramps post surgery when I sipped on anything. Doctor prescribed levsin for them. I am now day 5 post surgery and still have minor cramps if I sip too fast, but it did get much better.

V.A. Clinic Process
Uomograsso replied to Bucky0126's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel pretty good. First thing after surgery in recovery room was a little rough, but nurses got my pain under control quickly. I think I got 3 or 4 doses of dilaudid via IV for pain the day of and day after surgery, but fter that I mainly used liquid tylenol to control pain. I did take a hit of liquid oxycodone at bedtime to help me sleep. But oral pain meds gave me nausea, but again nurses were quick with anti-nausea meds. Had surgery on Thursday morning and got discharged Saturday morning. I am on full iquid diet. Protein shakes, decaf coffee or tea, sugar free popsicles, smooth soups (no chunks, meat, nor pasta), skim milk, plain yogurt (can use artificial sweeteners in it), grits, runny oatmeal and sugar free pudding. I am on this for 2 weeks, then onto pureed foods where I can add low fat cottage & ricotta cheese, creamy soups, but no solids. Next 2 weeks is stage 3 soft foods progressing to regular foods. Then stage 4 to start integrating regular foods one at a time back into my diet. Right now I feel good. Sipping water to get my 64 oz in daily. I have zero hunger. Just a few little stomach cramps when I sip to fast, but again doctor prescribed levsin for cramps and it seems to be working. Haven't had to take anything for pain since I have been home. My incisions are pretty painless as well I only feel them if I really twist or bend to far. I guess am very lucky in that regard. My daily diet is one protein Shake first thing which takes me about 2 hours to sip down. Then I do sugar free pudding with protein powder added. Just add two scoops to the pudding mix and I mix with Fairlife fat free milk. That gives me about five 4 oz servings with about 15 grams of protein and 100 calories. I also do a protein water or fruit flavored protein mix in the afternoon to try and get 60 grams of protein each day. -
Blossom Bariatrics In Las Vegas
mccurryl replied to Pansypicker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello. I had surgery at Blossom Bariatrics in August. I too, flew across the country. I have also been an OR nurse for a long time. Blossom is TOP notch. You will be given absolutely the best care beyond every single person you meet. Do not cheat with smoking. I have read in their literature that your surgery will be cancelled if nicotine positive. Also nicotine impairs healing. I chewed nicotine gum for years. Try wearing a patch and taper off. If I can do it u can! They saved my life. They r there for you. Lean on your fast track coordinator when u feel weak or down. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
February Surgery ?
TheNewMe72 replied to PSquared_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feb. 10th.. time can't get here fast enough...but also scared at same time lol -
Good morning everyone, I had my sleeve December 2, 2019 (8 weeks) and have had tremendous success so far. Here is the thing...I really have trouble eating/wanting to eat. Has anyone experienced this? I have this aversion to chewing in general and am swinging between stage 2 and 3. I know everyone is different, but there are times when I am chewing and I have this feeling like 'okay swallow that and it is coming back up.' I have had intermittent problems with keeping foods down, but have found a happy medium with the softest foods possible. No matter how soft i make the chicken - and I am talking slow cooked dark meat - I cant eat it. The only thing I can eat is ground meat, like meatloaf. I am sick of the pureed soups and I am struggling to find agreeable foods. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have my second post-op appointment tomorrow and surprisingly, I have already lost over 60 lbs and gone down 3 pants sizes. That is great and all but the body needs fuel. I rely on protein shakes to meet my protein quota. Before surgery I could guzzle water and now I am struggling to meet my daily goals. I think I average about 32 oz. The irony is I want to eat EVERYTHING, you know the total see-food diet. I am not hungry but I am struggling with the loss of the ability to eat anything and everything. I feel a sense of grief and honestly, I know I want the magic pill that makes me skinny and able to eat whatever. I have a therapist and psychologist to deal with the underlying issues. Its just the day to day is the worse. My diet right now is protein shakes, yogurt, tuna (a little), low fat cheddar cheese, meat loaf, creamed soups, mashed potatoes (sometimes), and when desperation strikes spaghettios (and yes they are as gross as they sound). I eat those when days have passed and I cant meet my real food requirements. There is no chewing and 2-3 oz and I'm full, so gross, unhealthy, but sort of perfect. I used to love scrambled eggs and now I cannot stand the taste. I can manage boiled eggs and today I am going to try egg salad again. I do not eat any breads, pastas (besides the canned fake stuff), rice, or crackers. I want to plan my meals but I never know what to plan because I smell food and it makes me gag. I know my sleeve is small because I get that feeling like it never really left my esophagus. Any tips and ideas are welcome! E-

Ahh that sucks! I recently had a horrible hair accident too. I was in the kitchen washing my container out and my stepmom had soup boiling on the stove. I walked past the stove extremely fast to put my container away then all of a sudden I started to smell something burn. I wasn't sure what it was and I looked quick to see if it was her soup. I then saw lots of smoke and out of the nowhere my dad yelled "YOUR HAIR!!" and yep.... my hair was on fire... I have longish hair and it must have caught fire when I walked by the stove. My parents came running and started hitting my head and my stepmom grabbed water and threw it at me. It was all very surreal. I lost a couple inches of hair on one side and on the other its slightly thinner. Luckily you cant tell but I can clearly feel and see the difference. Oh and this happened a day before my birthday... ๐

21 DAYS SINCE MY RNY AND MY SURGEON CLEARED ME TO EAT WHAT I WANT.
Slimming Down Steve replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wasn't trying to be argumentative I was just trying to say what is working for my surgeon and I. I don't want to drop weight to fast and make my immune system drop with it. When I was in the Navy bootcamp I lost weight so fast I was getting sick constantly. I rather loose a little slower. I'm not planning on increasing the oz of food from where I currently am now. As I said; everyone is different and has different goals. -
Discouraged and need advice
Taj replied to Seimmaj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Iโm two weeks post-op VSG and lost 13 pounds since surgery. Following every detail of liquid diet and walking and beginning to think Iโm not losing fast enough. Thank you to everyone for your answers. I also thought I should have lost 20 pounds in the first two weeks? So easy to get discouraged. Today was first day eating purรฉes so I opted for baby food (green beans) and was able to eat 3 oz with no problem so then thought my sleeve might be too large. No water 1/2 hour before or after meals either. Vitamin water and Powerade zero mixed with water and hot lemon water are my only fluids. Thanks for the encouragement. -

O wow that is a lot different. Yes every surgeon is different and sometimes they perform the surgery different which could effect healing etc and why they want us to do different things. They all have there reasons as to why there theory is best for there surgery healing. My surgeon has been doing this for a long time and he teaches people around the world Mexico, the U.K., New Zealand and of course also in the US lol so his techniques are probably different? And he may be more lenient on advancing stages faster? But someone that was in a pre op class with he has her in full liquids for 2 weeks. So I think it may have something to do with her medical problems. And he see that certain patients canโt advance as fast? So I think he trailers his standard guide a lot of needed or certain situations. I am feeling AMAZING today. I have no pain. Iโm with my baby and we are back to our normal routine. It 6 days out from surgery. So I am very happy with results. I weighed myself today Starting weight 289 ( before prenop liquid) Pre op weight day of surgery 280? I think Current weight 270 Goal weight 155 -
21 DAYS SINCE MY RNY AND MY SURGEON CLEARED ME TO EAT WHAT I WANT.
Slimming Down Steve posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
AS LONG AS IT ISN'T SUGARS, FATS OR PROCESSED CARBS. I'm cleared to eat what I want. He said he still cannot believe that at 10 days out I was able to eat 4oz of air fried salmon. He said that beef jerky usually is hard to handle at 2 months. I have been snacking on beef jerky and peanuts since around 15 days out. I was 225 fully dressed with my jacket, knife, smartphone, change, and wallet when I was weighed. The Nurse said; there was no need to remove anything since she couldn't believe the difference since my surgery. My surgeon asked about how I'm doing with my meds, proteins and fluids, I told him all's good. He looked at my incisions and said I'm healing really fast. So he cleared me to eat my way because it's working. I have my next appointment on February 24th. -
I increased my Saxenda injection to the 1.2 mg for week 2 yesterday. For anyone starting Saxenda, I recommend starting it on a Saturday or Sunday as the increase can give you a worn down feeling as your body adjusts to the increase. The only side effect so far has been a feeling of a sour stomach and loss of appetite (that one's good). I weighed in this morning at 325.5 lbs, so nearly -16 lbs in 1 week of Saxenda and 3-1/2 weeks of intermittent fasting, portion control and carb reduction (just trying to avoid major carb intake). I feel good, but haven't noticed any weight loss in the mirror....yet. Thanks for the positive vibes and comments, I'm trying!
