  1. Hello! I am performing in a charity variety show 3 weeks after surgery. I have to do a couple of numbers that essentially would be the equivalent of 3-minute line dances. Not super- complicated choreography, but pretty fast. So, 3-weekers, do you think I'll be ok as far as incision healing and stamina? Thanks in advance!
  2. I feel like I'm eating the same things over and over and I'm getting bored. I feel like I can eat anything meaning my appetite is good. I'm also able to eat about 3/4 cup of food. I have found that foods don't taste funny to me. I read that was a possible side effect but so far so good. I'm also finding that there isn't anything, so far, that my sleeve doesn't agree with. I want to see my NUT again because I feel like they only prepare you for the first couple of weeks post-op but not how to eat once you're passed the phases. So, anyone around week 7, what are you eating?
  3. Was scheduled for the 22nd and arranged people and things. Then I talk to the surgeon's scheduler and UC Irvine had an overbooking of OR's, so I got bumped to the 29th. The waiting is what is killing me. I was ready to start liquid diet Wednesday of this week, now it is pushed a week. Really giving me more time to worry and be scared. This sucks.
  4. I had my gastric sleeve done one June first, tbh I do not exercise much but I am down 85 pounds. I have noticed an incredible hair loss and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what to do? I am in Costa Rica so natural ingredients are always preferred. Any exercise to burn fat and tighten muscle would be appreciated
  5. Hey guys...I'm doing ok overall. Thanks to support on this website I know I will get through this along with the blessings of the good Lord. My only problem is I'm only getting about 25-30 grams of protein a day. I get this through eggs and kellogs strawberry protein shakes(10grams). I've tried isopure fruit juices and it just left a horrible taste and film in my mouth! Any one have any suggestions for additional protein. I'm so scared ill going to be protein deficient when its time to do labs.
  6. It just hit me that I'm scheduled to get sleeved in 3 weeks...21 days.... Not sure if I'm excited or scared...probably a little bit of both. Time to keep the nerves at bay and do this thing!!!!! Can't wait to get cute once more!!!!!

    6 weeks post VSG

From the album: 6 weeks post VSG

    about 223lb
  8. I'm starting to get really frustrated about this surgery. During the pre-op phase, I lost 23 pounds, and the first three days after surgery, I dropped another 10. Since that point, I have either stayed the same or gained weight every single day. My fiance had the same surgery a week prior to me, and she is dealing with the same thing. I just don't get it. In diets of the past, if I had eaten this amount of food, I would have been dropping 5-10 pounds a week...but after the band, it's nothing. I was expecting rapid weight loss (and was pretty much guaranteed this by my Doctor, as long as I followed the guidelines, which I have), but at this point, I'm starving myself and eating foods that disgust me (protein shakes) for nothing. Has anyone else had these problems after the surgery? I understand the argument about swelling, but if that was the case, I would have gained in the days following surgery. I also understand plateau's, but this has been going on for 12 days now. I weigh almost 400 pounds and am surviving on less than 1000 calories a day...it's ridiculous.
  9. Hi all. I have not been on here for some months. Personal issues that I will not go into here, but I had my sleeve on 11/29/10. So far I am very happy with the way I feel. I was taking Lasix to get rid of excess fluid pre-surgery, but my dr. did not want me to continue it post surgery. I was alarmed at first, because, of course I started retaining fluid and actually put on 5 lbs, from surgery day through 5 days post op. He was right in his decision, because I would have been dehydrated had I taken it. With that said, after I lost that 5 lbs of fluid plus an additonal 10 lbs during week 2, there has been no further change in weight. On monday I will be 3 weeks post op. I have been getting in 64+ ounces of fluids, getting in all my required 60 grams of protein, walking 1+mile on the treadmill for a week now with no further change. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal?
  10. Hi everyone. I'm 45 years old, 5'8" and pushing my highest weight ever at 295. BMI 44. I was a thin and active child and teen. After college I started a sedentary job and had a baby a year after that. Gained 60 pounds while pregnant and that was 20 years ago! Over last 20 years I steadily and slowly have gone up on the scale. I have done many diets over years with only small early losses but weight always finds me again plus some. My father died at age 43 from a sudden heart attack. At that time I was only 23 and was still at a healthy weight but now that I am obese and older than he was it is a severe fear of mine. In fact I have always had anxiety anytime my heart rate goes up even from daily things like climbing stairs or vacuuming the house. This is probably one reason I don't exercise. Anyway my mom had a few friends that have had some success with Lap Band and she has begged me to consider it but I've kept thinking no way my insurance would ever pay for it. Well recently I called my insurance and they WILL cover it if I meet all their requirements. I do meet them all now except the recent 6 months doctor supervised diet. I did WW within last year but dang it I only lasted 4 months that time before I gave up! My insurance assigned me a case worker advocate and I have my first phone interview on Monday afternoon. I also have a physical scheduled for next Friday with my PCP because I am clueless of my cholesterol or blood sugar. And I will ask for his support and recommendation as well. I have done a lot of research online and read a couple eBooks and I'm actually leaning toward vertical sleeve now as opposed to Lap Band. It seems to have better long term results and fewer long term complications after getting past the initial surgery and leak test. Plus the foreign object inside me forever w LB kind of freaks me out. My husband supports me but has never had a weight issue so he doesn't get why it has to come to this for me. Nobody besides my hubby and mom know yet that I'm considering this. Not even my son yet. Anyway that's my story. Journey about to take off.
  11. I had my first fill 07/09. I was given roughly 2 cc's in a 10 cc band. Didn't notice much difference. Until last night. Three-quarters of the way through a dinner (about 1 1/2 ups of food) I felt full, for the first time. This morning, I was 1/2 way through my oat-meal and I felt full. I covered the rest in plastic wrap and stuck in the fridge. I was just wondering has anyone else experienced this?
  12. Yesterday I ate between 750 and 800 calories and had 85 grams of protein....when I woke up today I lost 4 pounds! My week and a half stall is over I hope! How many calories should be consumed at a month out?
  13. So I tried a green smoothie today - 1/2 a banana 1/2 cup mixed berries a handful of spinach soy milk and protein powder - Blended pretty thin. It tasted great but holy heck it hit my stomach like a ton of bricks. I felt nauseous and my stomach hurt so much after like 3 sips. I felt unwell for about 2 hours after and I was at work for my first day back so I wasn't in a rush to leave. Was this dumping? Should I try again with less fruit? Was it just something I can't tolerate right now? That pain though, nope, I never want it again. I have had a great first 2 weeks other than this no pain, fluids in easy - getting in about a cup of strained soup at meal times and I have been feeling great. Anyone else not tolerating smoothies at this stage? Any tips?

    Very happy one week out

Tomorrow will be one week since I got my band. :thumbup:After a false start (I was supposed to go in on March 29, and was postponed for two weeks because the Dr. heard a wheeze.) I was a little discouraged. After one week I feel good, I've lost 20 lbs. (including the 10 I lost on the pre-op diet which I had to continue for an add'l two weeks after I was postponed) I have to say I was not as diligent the second two weeks on pre-op diet, in fact I had two "last" dinners! I feel a little sore, but better each day. The biggest problem this week has been boredom since I am used to working, and I was not even able to walk my dogs. Tomorrow I go back to work for a few hours. I also have to say my friends and co workers have been VERY supportive which has meant a lot. My husband has also been very helpful and supportive. I think my biggest problem so far has been getting enough protein, and I wonder if I am eating enough. I find it tough to drink two protein drinks a day as recommended so I am adding protien powder to the foods I've been eating, 1/2 cup of protien for breakfast and about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of soup twice a day. I am not hungry, but get very gassy after I eat.
  15. Ok, so I have weighed the same for 10 days. I'm 4 weeks out, and of course I'm starting to worry. I log my food, I get my Protein, I am getting 500-700 calories a day, and I'm just frustrated. Tomorrow is my one month surgiversary, so I'll do measurements and maybe that will make me feel better, but right now I'm seriously down about this. I tried putting away the scale, but that gave me anxiety, so now I'm back to weighing once a day in the morning, and the same number just keeps showing up. I HATE 289!:cursing: And of course it's hard not to compare myself to my husband (who got sleeved the same day as me). He had a small stall as well, but now is back to losing 2 lbs./day the past few days. He'll soon weigh less than me at this rate! Do I just keep doing what I'm doing, or is there something I should try to break this? I'm willing to try something new, but I'm not sure what:confused:
  16. Well, on the 28th I will have surgery!! I start my pre-op liquid-only diet tomorrow night (5 full days). I am really excited and only a little nervous (but more excited than nervous). I'm worried that I am too excited. I've had 2 c-sections (13 & 18 years ago) but never been in any other kind of surgery. I read everything I can about what to expect and do for my new life so I know I'm ready for the "after life". but this 6 week post-op pain and nausea and fatigue are the only things that worry me. I have about 75 Protein powder samples from a bunch of different sources - so i think I'll be okay with that. really really really want to minimize my post-op complication rate and get back to work/life asap. Suggestions? Anyone else just have or are having surgery soon? I'd like a buddy to compare notes and get/give support. thanks for reading my post. I just have so much pent up energy and don't know how to channel it at the moment.
  17. Hi I was wondering what suggestions does everyone have for being 4 weeks out now? What exactly is a soft diet? Also has anyone attempted to take a sip of soda(sprite) I am so craving the carbonation I know it is bad for me but all I want is a sip.... any opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated :crying:
  18. Excited. Have done a ton of research, therefore I would be an idiot if I weren't nervous also. Just got insurance approval yesterday, and I am schedule for the 25th. Been on the journey since November. Figure doing some talking with some informed people would be a good thing.

    ONE WEEK!!

My surgery is one week from today!! Tomorrow I go for final pre-surgical testing at the hospital, sign my consent at the surgeon's office, and get my time. Then I just have final medical clearance on Thursday from my PCP. I'm so anxious - I just want this week to go quickly so I can get there already!!
  20. Will I make it through one more week of protein shakes.....I want to puke every time I think of having to drink another 2oz.
  21. I went back down to Mexico last weekend because I thought I had some Water in my belly, it did go down like Dr. C said it would. He removed my stitches and told me that I was healing nicely and he was pleased with my results. He told me that I wold not see the full benefit for 3-4 months and that I would go down a size or two. We will see. My pre-op clothing is loose on me and I am still in my garment although today I wore a pair of fleexies out instead. Dr. C said I could get out of the garment in the day at 4 weeks and to wear it at night for three months. I am feeling pretty good. I drive, go shopping, work and went back to the gym today. I am starting out very slow, like I am a beginner. I can't begin to tell you how glad I am at having this proceedure done. This is by far the best gift that I could have given myself. I stopped off at Nordstoms and bought some little tiny lacy panties that go up your butt in the back. I could NOT believe how good they looked on me. I just stand in front of the mirror and say, "Damn girl, you look sooooo good"! He he he he My husband can't keep his hands off me and I am loving it. I feel so sexy for the first time in years. My belly looks like I am 18yo again. I will try and get some photos up soon. The pain was worse than I expected, but it passed and that is what drugs are for...right? I am planning on going back down for a BL in September. I am a nice 36DD but after breast-feeding six, yes six kids, well, they are going south shall I say? I am in a loose size 12. I am 5'7 1/2 40-31-41 not too shabby for 49yo
  22. I was on this forum quite a while ago asking for help with insurance issues, etc. For 3 years, my insurance denied me, even though I appealed with a ton of paperwork from several doctors and made numerous phone calls, wrote letters and on and on. My place of employment finally switched to a different insurance company in 2017 and I had my first visit with the surgeon the beginning of February. I had already been to other doctors, been to nutritionists, taken weight loss meds, and done so many programs, so I had already met many of the pre-requisites. After jumping through some more hoops, having some tests done, seeing another nutritionist, I was finally approved for surgery and it is now set for July 25th! I am so very happy to start my journey, my only regret is that it took so long to get here. But, I'm here now and wanted to share my good news! I'm a little nervous about it as I've not had many surgeries in my life, but I know Ill get through this and my life is going to change for the better in so many ways!
  23. Had my three month visit yesterday. I was really trying to hit that 50 pound mark but missed it by 1 pound. Arghh!! The surgeon was very pleased with my progress. He kept asking about complications or how I've felt, like he couldn't believe my answers about feeling like a million bucks! He told me I looked great and when I said "Thanks to you", he said no, that I had done all the hard work and his part was just a small part of it all. Very nice surgeon! I told him I would be his poster child for relative lightweights and he asked me if I would be willing to post before and after pics on his website and Facebook page. I told him sure. Well, when I posted my pics on his Facebook page, I didn't realize it would post to my timeline and all my friends and family would see it. I hadn't told them all about having surgery. I got SO many positive likes and comments about my weight loss and not one negative comment about having had surgery. So, the cat's out of the bag, now!
