    Plateau Problems

There are many reasons for plateaus and everyone experiences them from time to time, some more often than others. It could be Water retention (possibly from Aunt Flo), less activity, not enough Protein, or your body could be going through an adjustment. You could be losing inches during this time. Don't cut back on food (if you snack you could back on that) and DO continue getting your protein and fluids in. Stay away from the scale for a week or two. Focus on NSV's (non scale victories) like clothes fitting better, not needing a medication, climbing those stairs w/o being winded, or whatever changes you are noticing in your life. These are the little things that mean so much more than a scale number and are the things you are working hardest for. Celebrate every one of them! The scale WILL move again, and most likely you WILL stall again eventually. Note: My first and only stall happened at 7 months out. It was a doozey, lasting almost TWO WHOLE MONTHS! :-)
  2. @@QueenA yep airplanes stories are great no bruises, able to buckle can't get much better than that you'll enjoy many, many more wonderful NSV's greet each one with a true sign of continued success pre-WLS i tried to "hide" the fact that i couldn't buckle my seat belt the attendent discreetly leaned over to me with an extender i felt so horrible, embarrassed (at least she was nice) after a lot of weight loss, i sat in the middle of a 3 people i just "plumped" down in the seat there was so much room on each side of me - no embarressment sitting so close to two others really cool feeling you've lost 39 lbs!!!! keep up the great job (i know you will ) good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life kathy congrats

6 weeks out, tired, grumpy, & I miss food

I am so sorry, but your venting made me laugh..So many things that we all experienced and the buyers remorse shining through your complaints. Hold on kid it is going to get better. I promise you. Life is going to start to hand you some pretty cool experiences called NSV. And then you will say I am so glad I did this. Mean while it takes time to get used to all the changes and rules..of our new life style. But it will become very manageable for you as well as routine very soon. Take the time to really enjoy exploring new foods that would be interesting to try. And then for sure you will have conversations about food. The whole reason you had this surgery in the first place was because of your addiction to the chemical reaction in your brain and lack of self control while enjoying the chemical reaction in your brain. But if you learn to make good, nutritional choices and make them tasty. There will be lots to talk about and you will be helping your body as well. I am never hungry either and have not been hungry all along...If i did not have Reactive Hypoglycemia I probably would not eat as often as I do and then I would be smaller then I am now...... Trust me girl it will all come together and you are going to be so proud of yourself!!!!!!!

    Mirrors and pictures

One of my big NSV is not being terrified of a camera...I had to make a conscious decision to not hide when photos were being taken. Was so glad I did! I even posed in a bathing suit!
  6. Went to my primary care physician for my annual physical today...everything is good, blood pressure, etc. but the best thing was I only had to use one gown and I could tie it without any gaps....that is my NSV for today!!!
  7. Yesterday, I celebrated an amazing NSV that I know a lot of you had already experienced. The last time I had been on a plane was in February and I can never forget that trip. The seats on both flights were small and I was absolutely MISERABLE and was left with hematomas and bruises on both hips that took weeks to heal. Since then I have been dreading getting on a plane again and mind you my job requires I travel so the leave of absence was a huge blessing and I was also blessed to work from home for the last 3 years. Well yesterday was AMAZING, not only did I fit into my seat and the belt had some space after I buckled it BUT I was also able to cross my legs. No bruises nor hematomas to report! I love this weight loss journey! Good luck to ALL and happy 4th! Let's all eat sensibly :-)

    Colors NSV

Until I had the surgery, until I lost 42 pounds when I did laundry I had three piles, darks mostly black, whites mostly towels and sheets. Today when I did laundry I had four piles darks mostly blues as in blue jeans sizes 14 -16s thank you very much, then colors such is purples and greens and blues and pinks. And of course towels and sheets. I never really thought about how much black I wore until I saw three items in that dark pile that were black and I was surprised. I looked at old pictures of myself from last summer, the very few I was actually in, All I used to wear was black. I love colors!

Congrats on your NSV. I know it must make you feel great. Keep up the good work.
  11. Ok everyone, I haven't been on in a while. I have been on a stall the past week an half:( But finally went down again today;) getting all Water in, about 60% of Protein in but I'm trying. Working out doing lots if cardio but I'm thinking I'm gonna need a trainer because my arm are really flabby now! I'm a little amazed on how flabby with a 30 lb loss! Shocking... Sleeved 5/28 SW 290 CW 263 Also for a NSV: I normally would wear a 20/22 but went to mall an could fit in a 14/16!! I couldn't believe it;) All I can say is just because scale is not moving, were still losing in inches

    Leak Survivor & Pregnant

Hello MichiganChic, Thank you kindly for the congrats! We are so very excited to welcome a little boy into our lives. I feel and have felt like I needed this for my body and soul. I was told that when pregnant that our bodies sort of do damage control, if you will. I think my emotions needed this because it gives me a closing to one tough chapter and a happy start to a new chapter. How have you been? How is life with your sleeve? According to your Body Weight Ticker, YOU have done amazing!!! Look at you!!! That is awesome! Have any NSV's? Phenonemial loss my friend!! I am still very regretful of my sleeve. I have been in counseling and I am working to make peace with this decision. Life has not been the same since my sleeve. My health has actually been worse, than it was when I was 306lbs. Who is to say that If I stayed or gained it wouldn't be unhealthy. But overall, I feel as if, I have never really made it to a 'healthy' status. At a year and a half out, I was still not able to keep nourishment (food/liquid) down. This is attitritubed to the masses that are in my sleeve, and the potential of my vagal nerve being damaged or cut. I have been on so many medicines and combinations to try and keep nourishment down that its not funny. A few months ago, I let it all go! I decided what will be, will be. I would like for my body to be in its natural state. So, I no longer take medicine to keep nourishment down. Labs show sign of malnourishment. I find that If I keep my spirit in the right place I manage pretty good. So, I do my best everyday to eat, drink and take my Vitamins. One day at a time! I've got this! My kidneys have struggled a lot through the leak and they are still an issue. I see the nephrologist regulary. It's painful to endure, but like everything else... I take it a day at time and keep my mind in the right place. I hope that you're having a good Sunday! I look forward to an update on your life with the sleeve! Best, Sannah

    Is this a NSV?

I think temptation issue is one of the biggest NSV's. It's the one we worry about the most before surgery and with all diets or WL events of in the past. To be able to change our eating habits and not be tempted by food laying all about, is a tremendous victory. It's the assurance that our lives have finally changed and food will not rule us anymore. Congratulations.

    Is this a NSV?

You can bet your life that was a NSV. You kicked it! Congrats!
  20. I think this might be my first NSV---->Had a block party with all my neighbors. food all around and I brought a shrimp salad (yum) I had about a fourth of a cup and had my Water bottle with me. One of my neighbors told me don't be shy. GET IN AND EAT..I had to laugh, I've never had people try to force food on me before. They were eating burgers, hot dogs ,deserts and alcohol. I was not even tempted to go there. Throughout the night I got positive comments. What a journey!

    NSV shout outs

Another NSV I'm sure shared by many.... I went to my 3 month post op appointment on Friday. I was pulling into the parking lot at 1:57 and my appointment was at 2. It's a bit of a hike into the building (it's inside a converted mall). I hustled in and was there is on time. I sat down cool and relaxed and not short of breath. My BP was normal. Last year in August, when I went to my first seminar/apt I remember circling the parking lot to find the closest spot, feeling like I was walking "forever" to get there, was all sweaty when I got to the office and my BP was 160's when they checked me in. 75 pounds gone means I no longer look for the closest parking space and I won't look like I could be wrung out after walking. Just little things like this make you appreciate weight loss and health. I have a ways to go but I've come so far!!

    NSV shout outs

These are great - and so inspiring! Thanks for posting them. My NSVs of late are: Getting a massage (I do two a year) and discovering I fit on the table without tucking my hands under my thighs to keep them from falling off the table! Noticing that even after a ton of extra steps today, my knees don't hurt at all going up stairs! Jewelry is better - rings I couldn't wear for years now fit (wedding ring included!) and necklaces that were too short and felt tight are now just right.
