  1. Unbelievable. Cigna cannot determine whether weight loss surgery is covered or not under my insurance policy. On the phone, I have been told yes, it is covered only be told later that there is a a specific exclusion in my policy for weight loss surgery. I was ready to self pay. I saw the surgeon this week for an initial consult and tentatively scheduled surgery for the first week in November. BUT the bariatric coordinator just called - Cigna called her and said they thought WLS is covered under my policy. The bariatric coordinator let them know that Cigna said it is not covered when she verified my benefits. So the Cigna rep is "double checking" and will get back to her. I can't believe this! How difficult is it to determine whether I'm covered or not. Has anyone experienced this type of thing before? Also, if a miracle happens and I am covered, what kind of hoops will I have to jump through with Cigna? Any experiences with Cigna in this regard would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have started to notice for example that under my breast where they touch my skin has started to get red and itchy also where I'm having sagging skin in the groin area is doing the same thing and I have to use a lot of baby powder. I am in the beginning of all this weight loss journey is this something I can expect to continue until I reach my goals and can have plastic surgery?

    gaining back weight

Hello I had my sleeve almost 2 years ago it has ultimately been the best choice of my life health wise energy and over all happier me, well sometimes I have fallen into this major plateau that makes me so upset at myself because all My issues have been more emotional Than anything I have discovered to be a complete emotional eater something I really didn't realize about myself beforehand food makes me feel good all the time whether it be a complete meal or just grazing I love it love how it makes me feel and that terrifies me because as much as I know it doesn't do me good the bare thought of stopping puts me in angry mode I need help I know I do I haven't started gaining the weight back but I also haven't lost I'm about 85 lbs down from 230 my ultimate weight loss goal was to hit the 100 lbs OFF and with me plateauing I've been starting to get more depressed angry and just upset at myself I don't know how to deal with my emotions!!! HELP!
  4. Hi Toddy, I also had surgery on January 31st. My first fill is scheduled for next week. I don't have any restriction which I hate. We had a family emergency two weeks ago and I had to go out of town for 4 days - eating every meal out. I gained back 4 lbs. that I had lost since surgery. That was very upsetting and I have been beating myself up over it and finally chose to get back on track also. I completely judge myself and am ashamed that I have only lost 3 lbs. since surgery 4 weeks ago - it could have been 7 lbs.!!! Anyway, I rarely ever drink, so can't help you there. I have kept my surgery a complete secret from everyone too, except my daughter and out of state cousin. I took 4 "vacation" days off work - no one has a clue, not even my best friend, not my father, not my brothers. I have always eaten soooooo slow, so the family and friends are used to it. Guess they will be grateful when we all finish eating at the same time and probably won't notice I didn't eat hardly anything - once I start feeling restriction. So, to answer your question (how do you act normal around a bunch of friends, none of whom know you've had WLS??) - I started talking about trying to lose weight a few months ago when I stopped drinking sweet tea, diet coke, and started working on the pre-op plan to lose 20 lbs. So, everyone just thinks I am on a diet. The good/bad thing about lap bands is that the weight loss is gradual, so being on a diet along with the 1-2 lbs. we are supposed to lose each week will make sense to everyone else. I have already started talking about portion control as well, in preparation for outings in which I only eat a small amount. Perhaps you can do the same and also mention you are trying to eat slower so you can feel full faster. I just can't wait for my first fill so I can walk the walk and talk the talk. Good luck and keep in touch - we are lap band buddies! We can help hold each other accountable and support each other since we are in this "secret" together from Day One!
  5. Wondering... This is the exact reason I had the sleeve... might sound a little strange, but ... I want to have a treat now and again!! Don't beat yourself up! The old you isn't back... it was a treat. Nice one... it won't be a regular thing, so just enjoy the moment! Oh, and congrats on your weight loss so far! =]

    Definitely blew it today

I realize how incredibly tight my sleeve is when I read something like this. Two week ago I had a "bad" day.I was just so sick of watching every bite. I bought a 1 piece chicken meal (leg) w/ those little cups of cole slaw and baked beans. It took me the whole day to eat it. And I'm over 5 months out. I don't want people to take this the wrong way, but the further out I get, the more often I wish I could eat a little more. Yes, it sets you up for having to be responsible. But this deprivation is getting old. It sometimes feels a little prisionish to not be able to even eat a normal size grilled chicken leg. So try to look at it that way. Yes, you will have to be a bit more responsible to make sure you eat right. But you can eat. And a few months from now, you might realize what a mental health gift that is because I really sometimes feel like a prision of war. And as a side point, I am not losing weight fast. My body knows this isn't right. So if you have a larger capacity, don't think it means less or slower weight loss. It doesn't. You will be able to do fine with this. Just not perfect and unfortunately it sometimes seems a lot of people are all about perfection. I'm more about being at peace with my decision.
  7. We're all still confused about what to & what not to put in our mouths... I'm in 7 months post up & still trying out different stuff.. SO please share a snack or meal u've discovered or invented, so others can benefit..... And I'll go first................ I've been reading on FB about the importance of honey & cinnamon combined together, it's a good mixture for colds, indigestion, weight loss, and so many things.. so I decided to to put those two components in a snack, which turned out to be delicious, light, but fulfilling.... Slice one banana on a plate, add one teaspoon of honey, and quarter teaspoon cinnamon powder,,,, try it, I was looking around for something sweet to eat, and not be guilty about it...
  8. Hello everyone, I have been banded for 3 months now and have lost 33 pounds. I waited a very long time to have this surgery because I never seemed to have insurance that would cover the surgery, but it was the best thing that I ever did no matter what the out of pocket cost is. Not only have I seen changes in myself I have seen changes in my husband and daughter, which is great. I think the hardest thing for me to get them to stop doing was asking me if I wanted a bite of their wonderful food and shoving it in my face. Another issue is them asking can you have this? It sometimes drives me nuts. Anyway. I live in Olathe KS which is just south of Kansas City and I have a husband and daughter. I currently am out of work but am enjoying being Mom. I also attend school to finish my Bachelors degree in HR, so I seem to be in a stage in my life that desires to make all sorts of improvements. I enjoy going to the gym and riding motorcycles, love the beach and theme parks. I found this site because I seem to have gotten stuck in my weight loss and needed information on how to kick start my body into losing again. I am really glad you all are out there and are going through this with me. Cheers to us.

    Dieting

You have to not stress because the second you stress you’ll probably either stop losing or start gaining. Due to the stresses of life I put 30lbs of my 103lb weight loss back on. Take it from me, don’t stress! At the same time I’m most successful when I think of this journey as a lifestyle change and not a diet. My surgeon did not require weekly weigh ins, I only weighed in when I went for fills so I can’t relate to that. Take it day by day, you can do this but changing your lifestyle won’t happen overnight it really is a process. When I was first banded I always use to ask myself “If my body hungry or is my head hungry?” 9/10 it was my head and I passed on the food.
  10. I was sleeved December 27th, 2012. I'm getting a little discouraged with my weight loss. Just trying to see if I'm in the right ballpark. How much have you guys lost since December?!

    hair loss and skin rejuvenation

Derma roller can be used on face and it helps remove wrinkle n dark spots. Especially after massive weight loss the cheeks fall down or gives it a lift as well.

    Newby here!

My advice would be to read as many posts as you can. You will learn that many people are doing things differently because every surgeon requires something different. It is mind boggling sometimes. Be prepared for probable hair loss. You can research stalls, hair loss, and anything else here that you read about, since there are thousands of previous posts. Welcome here, you will learn that Bariatric Pal will be your new best friend! Best wishes!

    Newby here!

There are a lot of posts here, you can search through. I thought Biotin prevented hair loss, and found out at 5 months post op it is supposed to help re-growth. I can see nothing it has done for me. I have been losing hair at 5 months post op to the present, 8 months. I have very blonde hair. I have had to buy a wig. Better to be informed and I sincerely hope you have better luck than I have.

    Starting to feel normal!

Ok, so today is the first day that I'm really starting to feel back to normal....very happily. Went for a walk...a short one, got a mani/ pedi, blew dry my hair, shaved the legs...all the grooming rituals that have been put on the back burner for the last 10 days! I'm also down 25 lbs today since I started the pre-op diet. So feeling pretty good about things. Two things that I think are odd about myself right now: One, I find great comfort in watching the food network constantly. I love to cook (and eat) and am growing a veggie garden now so I've been thinking of cool recipes. I have been watching A LOT and seem to be somewhat sated just watching these yummy things being prepared...I don't necessarily even want to EAT them....just a bit strange the whole thing. Number two and even weirder is that I'm having very vivid dreams about food. Have had two (so recurring) dreams about home made peach ice cream (which I'm not sure I've ever even had) and last night I was molesting a Big Mac! I'm a vegetarian and have never been a huge fast food person (although do have very fond food memories of McD's cheeseburgers during my meat eating years!) Anyway, a bit weird, but all in all things are good and I guess we all handle these changes a bit differently. :crying:
  16. Hi all, I am one month post op and have gone from 266lbs to 245lbs. Just transitioned to soft food 8 days ago and am at a complete stall. Only consuming 600 calories per day and getting almost all of my water in. Trying not to get frustrated as I have another 110 lbs to lose... Is this normal?
  17. wow, Mexico...why not Cincinnati? insurance reasons? Have you heard of Dr. Fegelmann? I was referred to him by my PCP. Congrats on your weight loss and good for the rest of the journey Janelle

    Fill time!

Whoo hoo, fill day today! I have not had a good fill record. My first fill, Nov 5, was cancelled because of nausea and moved to Nov. 19. Went to Disneyland in Dec. 2nd fill Dec 19 for a total of 6 ccs. No real restriction. 3rd fill Jan but I was too embarrassed to go since I hadn't been losing. So today is the day! I also changed my life around to better facilitate my weight loss goals. I work 12 hour night shifts and my schedule used to be 3 nights on 2 off, 3 on, 6 off That was exhausting! I switch back to day shift on my days off because I have an 11 year old son. I changed my schedule to 3 on 4 off so I can get regular exercise. I started swimming again. I love to swim! I joined WW for the core diet plan, we'll see how that goes. I bought the book Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients. I also bought the workbook because I'm a bit OCD. I hope my fill goes well today!
  20. I wanted to share this.. I think we can all relate to many of this man's struggles. His honesty about them, as well as his ideas about creating resources to help others in similar situations, are refreshing and inspiring. Googling brought me here: http://weymouth.wickedlocal.com/article/20140812/NEWS/140819260/?Start=1 Which ultimately brought me here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1421495441/cutting-the-fat-with-a-knife-a-mans-surgical-weigh After talking to him, I can tell you he has an admirable capacity for empathy. In conjunction with a good idea, and the bravery to put yourself out there to try to make it happen.. it's hard to find anything but respect for Steve. If others in the past had been willing to do what he's doing, maybe none of us would even be on this forum today. Take 5 minutes to check out what he has to say.. Trust me. Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I wanted to add that his surgery is not contingent upon the success of his 'kickstarter'. I felt like he didn't make this clear enough at first glance - but upon learning that the surgery is happening either way, I pledged him $150. He doesn't need our help to get his surgery - he's just going out of his way to try to help the rest of us as much as possible in the process. You've gotta root for the guy who puts himself out there and invests his time and energy towards that end. You shouldn't take my word for it and donate to his cause. I have posted his story here on your forum so that you can read and talk to him about what he's trying to accomplish here, then form your own opinion. I support it, so i'm speaking up and saying let's make it happen. -slim slow

  23. Hi LaLa Weez I am 5.4 and had mine laparoscopically. I had mine Sep 2, 2013. I had quite a bit of scar tissue so it did take them 45minutes just to get thru it. But all went well. Here are my STATS: HW 249 this time I was up to 285#'s but managed to lose down to the 249 SW 232 LW 117 CW 125 I got to my goal weight in 6 months so I have maintained my loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I hope you get awesome results from your upcoming surgery.
