  1. You can mix it in coffee, yogurt, cottage cheese with peaches, milk, ice cream, juice and anything you eat or drink almost. The only real way to find out what you like or dont is to simply try it. Dont be afraid to try different ways to experiment with protein powder. The worse thing that can happen is you waste a scoop or so. Try anything you can to get your protein in to keep healthy. Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app

1/2 the person I used to be

Hoping and praying I can duplicate this . And the last 2 nights I have been vomiting, and when I go for checkups they keep noting I am doing well for ____months.I am not, stop noting pacifing things. This not the way things are supposed to be, will I have to scream today. to get someone to listen? Have an appointment at 3pm today, May be Only with Nurse Practioner Valerie, no sign of my surgeon, well having a mini-pity party at this second. Maybe I'll never see him again unless I need surgery again. Perhaps I get only a nurse because my case is BORING? Well last weight was 224 on Thursday, I won't make 1/2 until I make goal, maybe 50 pounds to go. I was literally twice as big as I should be when I set out on the journey, lost about 125 since then, 95 or 96 pounds since surgery date 8 months ago, those sound fine except this AM my baby tummy is SORE. They told me at last EGJ things are healing well from what could be visualized, not so certain in my 💔of. ❤s. I have taken enough Carafate to build a patio, enough PPI to last until I'm 80, still do best. with protein shakes, RTF or powder reconstituted, soups with minimal or no texture to them, applesauce, occasional mashed up fruit or veggies, am I on a Mechanical soft died the rest of my life? In theory I should be on Stage 4 or at least Stage 3, but when I venture towards such, up things come! Still unable to handle banana, peanut butter, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. eggs, or meat. Ground up?,Can't even handle ham salad with nothing added like pickle relish, celery or even diet mayo. So many abortive trials I am also sickened by the thought of trying once more. Oh I do take all my vitamins, minerals, all the things PCP and Bariatric staff think I need, maybe that's what keeps me alive because a varied diet sure isn't. It is fatigue- ing to throw a tantrum but perhaps it's what I need to have someone listen for once! I want my joy back , I want my digestion back, I want to feel better and this blase treatment isn't making it for ME.

    1 Week Post-Op

Soon, you will gradually get to have real food and will feel better. I know how hard it is. My hunger came back day five and broth really helped to fill the hole in my stomach. Full liquids and I was eating yogurt and that helped. Good luck!

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Good luck to all those still having surgery this month. I hope everything goes well. To all those who have already had surgery, how are things going? I had my bypass on April 11th. At my 2-week follow-up appointment last week, I was down 10.5 pounds. My doctor said I was on track, they hope to see a 10% loss of excess weight at that first appointment. I was at 14%. I weighed this morning and I have lost 4 more pounds since then. So, while I’m not losing a huge amount, I am very glad to see the scale going in the correct direction. 👍🏻 I am eating soft foods (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese, eggs, tuna, etc). I am a pescatarian (no meat except seafood) so I am struggling to find a variety of protein choices. I am not in any pain and my energy level is almost back to normal. My most annoying problem (and I never thought I would have this problem!) is not wanting to eat at all. I know I have to have protein, but it is hard to force myself to eat sometimes. It is an odd feeling. I am struggling with not wanting any food. I get my 64 oz liquids in easily, though.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I would love to join this but I am due for surgery on the 6th for my bypass. I am right now on a liquid diet. So there is no food besides the soups, protein shakes, sf puddings, sf jello, and greek yogurt going in right now. I just want to get past my surgery and heal completely before the beach days with my sons. I want to be able to get in that ocean water as well

    Constipation

I eat yogurt daily and it regulates my bowel movement. If I'm feeling constipated, I double my daily yogurt intake. I remembered I was constipated on the first week though. The doctor advised me to buy Dulcolax. It does get better though.
  8. Anyone have a safe potatoe soup recipe for a small amount? I’m about to start adding in yogurt, applesauce, cottage cheese so I’m guessing soup is ok.. gonna call my office in the am

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I know I would be able to increase the amount I can eat. I have to be vigilant making sure I keep portions low or I don’t lose. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a revision or some other stupid reason. Froufrou- I seem to have to keep calories low, between 600-700 to lose well. I may do better if I were even lower, but I can’t seem to get it lower and get 50-60g of protein. I think I’m going to buy the unflavored Genpro powder since I hear it has 30g of protein and only 60 calories for about a tablespoon and is nearly tasteless. As far a what you’re supposed to be eating...protein first, then veggies and they say carbs last, but I don’t do a starch on my plate as a rule. I have however had the tiny corn tortillas in street tacos a couple of times. I think they have 7 carbs in each one. Street tacos come with 2 tortillas and I have tossed one, so only eating one of them but honestly they are a waste of calories/carbs without much nutritional benefit. We are supposed to only be eating things that have good nutritional benefits at this point. I am finding that I have to stay focused or I will push the boundaries far enough to just maintain my weight. I have a hard time with my fat brain at night, urging me to eat something, never bad stuff, just yogurt or cheese and almonds, but still calories I don’t need because I’m not hungry and definitely don’t need to eat before going to sleep. It’s an ongoing struggle for sure.
  11. I had sleeve to bypass April 4. No dumping but I’ve watched my sugar and fat intake. I’m sure it’ll happen eventually once I move to solids next week. Just try and avoid processed sugar, period. And other sugar intake like fruit. I got a little out of it and almost sweaty when I had a low sugar yogurt too quickly. Passed in a couple minutes with no additional symptoms.

    Food at work ?

If you're on soft foods you don't need pureed food. There are plenty of things you can eat. Yogurt, small curd cottage cheese, refried beans, blended soups, eggs, mashed bananas, apple sauce, humus, avocado, smoothies, tuna fish, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cooked vegetables, baked beans, guacamole, baked potato, sugar free pudding. The list is endless you just have to be creative.

    Food at work ?

For soft food stage, I did: Puréed beans (black or pinto). If you add a bit of cheese for the last 5seconds or so in the microwave, it’s great. And if you can tolerate it, eat with a bit of mild salsa or guac Puréed egg salad. 2 eggs puréed with 1tbl each of mayo and Greek yogurt Ricotta bake (google eggface ricotta bake). Sometimes I add a layer of puréed spinach.

I wasn't able to eat at all during week one and some of week two - I drank protein shakes and protein drinks to get my protein and fluids in, and that was it. Later in week two, I was able to add yogurt, pudding and plain soups. I think it's normal.

    April buddies?

Yea drinking was a big issue for me, but this morning I started off drinking some of my protein drink. Then an hour later I had a small amount of yogurt and took my pain meds and went to sleep. I woke up and had some more of the protein shake and I will be sipping on water and later I will have some broth.. hopefully I get enough fluids in today. Only thing is I'm not sure if I'm going over the amount or if I'm under.. I was able to pass gas last night (sorry TMI ) but they kept asking me if I did or not. 16. Yeah, this confused me constantly! When to weigh and when to measure and I wish someone had told me this from the beginning. So here it is in a nutshell. Ok? Volume is KING. (like seriously) Our RD and surgeon talk in terms of ounces in 2 ways=volume and scale weight of food. Sometimes they use it interchangeably. But strictly speaking the only "true" time that they are 1:1 is in water (a pint is a pound the world around which means 16oz =1lb=16oz by weight). So we all know that liquids are gonna be a measurement and for instance 4oz of volume = 1/2 cup volume because 1oz fills 1/8cup of space. That works for anything that is smooth, including purees and soups. Right? So far things are easily understood. Right? But, when you start talking about dense foods, most specifically protein=which is also KING (or maybe it's QUEEN=second most important), things start getting blurry. Most RDs believe 1oz of dense protein by weight fits in 1oz of volume (or in 1/8cup measuring cup). But that's not strictly true. Some "wet" proteins might equal that, but mostly here is what you need to know to put this together regarding the dense foods that are best measured on the scale: 1oz dense protein by weight = approx. 1/4cup volume = 6-7g of protein/oz wt. = 6-7g protein per 1oz./wt. and 1/4cup vol. 2oz dense protein by weight = approx. 1/2cup volume = 6-7g of protein/oz wt. = 12-14g protein per 2oz./wt. and 1/2cup vol 3oz dense protein by weight = approx. 3/4cup volume = 6-7g of protein/oz wt. = 18-21g protein per 3oz./wt. and 3/4cup vol 4oz dense protein by weight = approx. 1cup volume = 6-7g of protein/oz wt. = 24-28g protein per 3oz./wt. and 3/4cup vol. 1-1 1/2oz dense veggies raw by weight = approx 1/4-1/2cup by volume 1oz dense veggie cooked by weight = approx 1/8-1/4cup by volume Depending where you are in recovery, your protein prescription for the day would be: 60-80g protein daily (by protein content). And on meals you will be told to eat: 1-2oz protein (by weight or volume-remember they think it's 1:1). So they are saying you have a volume target of 1/8-1/4cup MAX per meal to accomplish your daily protein goal. So at first, you might literally be eating every 1-2 hours to reach your goal--and those meals mostly ONLY consist of protein heavy meals! But as you heal your meal volume target grows. Phase 1: 1-2oz volume measurement (liquids), actual meal weight on scale will mostly equal volume measurement Phase 2: 2-4oz volume measurement (liquids, purees), actual meal weight on scale will vary against the volume measurement Phase 3: 3-4oz volume measurement (liquids, purees, soups/stew, mushy soft foods), actual meal weight on scale will vary greatly against the volume measurement (think 4oz by volume = 1/2cup of chicken pot pie filling weighs much more than 4oz by volume of a chicken broth by weight. Or 1/2cup of cottage cheese weighs much more than a 1/2cup of Greek Yogurt, which weighs even more than a 1/2cup of regular yogurt. You see where I'm going?). Phase 4: 4-6oz liquid measurement (liquids, purees, soft mushy foods, dense proteins, dense vegetables), actual meal weight on scale will vary greatly against the volume measurement Phase 5 (forever diet): MAX 8oz liquid measurement (all foods), actual meal weight on scale will vary greatly against the volume measurement ******************* Ok, so what the hell does this mean? It means that you put a measuring cup on the scale at whatever your volume target is per meal (ie 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 cup), and you actually "weigh" the food into it! You stop when you reach your meal volume target. That's all you get for that meal. At first, your cup will only be filled with dense proteins cuz that's what will fill you quickest, stay with you the longest and satiate, and will help meet your protein goals. But as your tool matures and there is more real estate inside, you will be able to get your protein goals in each meal with little problem, even when you eat to your maximum volume meal size target. For instance, I can get all protein from food and no longer rely on getting it from protein drinks or bars/supps. But I will still have some of those when I "want" them. I just know now, with a mature pouch, the protein drinks and supplements will not fill me up like they did in the early days. My meal volume for life = 1 cup per meal. Here's how I fill that. 1 cup volume/meal = 3oz protein (about 3/4cup filled up by dense protein) + 1 to 1 1/2oz dense veggie cooked (about 1/4cup filled up by dense veggie) + 1tsp healthy fat equivalent. And here's what I can usually assume on protein for that meal. I can assume per meal that I'm getting: 3oz dense lean protein = 7g/oz by weight = 21g protein from meat 1oz dense veggie cooked = 1g/oz by weight = 1g protein from veggie 21g + 1g = 22g protein per meal for 1 cup of food that contains 3oz of protein by weight + 1oz veggie by weight. My goal for protein is about 60-74g per day of very complete and varied protein sources. ************************** I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you any more than you are. VOLUME is KING! But PROTEIN is QUEEN. You must satisfy the queen for the day, but you have to make sure you eat the correct volume per meal to do it = "KING's Orders"-- even if that means eating 6 times per day! Make sense?
  17. I need help quick before I lose all of my finger nails! My finger nails are so sore from ripping down to the quick. I really don’t know what to do? This just started at month 5. I started losing hair bad about 4 months and upped the vitamins and biotin. I take chewable Bariatric fusion in addition to cal-mag-zinc, k, biotin, A, and fish oil. I get between 75-100 grams of protein daily and average 1000 calories a day. I bought some Hair, skin, and nails and added it one week who but I need a fast fix here. I am not vain about my nails and don’t paint them but just want to keep them for every day use and make them stop hurting. I don’t bite them, don’t drink and don’t smoke. My meat consumption is fairly low but I get protein through Greek yogurt, beans, protein shakes, and small amounts of chicken a few times a week. Please help me keep my finger nails!

  19. I'm on week 3. My nut wants us to reach 600 calories a day. Today I aimed for 422. I am a bit under because I can never eat the entire portion besides yogurt in the am. I log everything on mfp, as best I can. I eat yogurt with protein powder for breakfast. Oikos triple. Mid morning i drink a protein shape boosted with protein powder. Late lunch i eat this lentil soup i made. High protein tofu, lentils, bone broth, carrots, onions, celery, garlic, spinach, 1 tsp olive oil for entire batch, fresh thyme Dinner: bibb lettuce, low sodium turkey breast, half a wedge of laughing cow My nut said to measure by volume (2oz cup or 1/4 cup). Not by weight. I weigh everything out to make sure i am hitting my protein goals. Oh and 2 SF popsicles
  20. The preop diet was not fun. Yogurt popsicles and soup were my friend. I don’t want to eat soup again for a really long time.

    All kinds of bathroom problems

Thanks, been meaning to update. Constipation has now been replaced by diarrhea, and I'm not sure what's causing that. No more Greek yogurt, probiotics, or whey protein drinks; overall cutting out dairy is an improvement. So far each meal has been pureed seafood and I've made a greater effort to get more vegetables in. Theres still pain/bleeding/itching, but it is less intense, so I'm grateful. I just have to keep up on water intake.
  22. Try to stay away from any "pureed" foods that contain sugar or other carbs like Applesauce, etc. Get a Ninja and puree fresh produce and lean proteins and you'll be good to go. Also, make sure your yogurts and snacks are as fat and calorie free as possible.

First Day of Liver Shrink Diet

Greek Yogurt and Fairlife milk are my saving grace with this pre-op diet. They chill the hunger for about 3 hrs! 😉
  24. My doctor starts us all on a regular diet starting week 4, and bars/shakes are only for supplementing if you're not reaching goal on "real", whole food protein sources (dense meats, yogurt, beans, cheese, etc). Does your doctor sell the bars/shakes he's recommending?
  25. Hi everybody so yesterday was my 6 week post op gastric sleeve date. I have lost 20 lb in the six weeks. My question is this, my doctor is not allowing me to eat any real food! He wants me to stay on two protein shakes and one protein bar a day with 1 oz only of egg or yogurt or cottage cheese. 1 oz is two bites. Have others doctors had them on this after the surgery? Is this normal? Help!!!
