Baby food on pureed stage
SusieQ2019 replied to VeeAurora's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no baby food. A simple Greek yogurt with applesauce and a scoop of isopure unsweetened protein give me 42 grams of protein. My dietitian wants at least 50 grams. That's what I eat for breakfast through lunch. Later I would have split peas soup, 4oz and 3-4 oz of ground chicken pureed in crushed tomatoes. -
2nd opinion. Go back to basics. Take it one day at a time. Do the things that worked right out of surgery. Clean your crap out of the house: pantry, fridge, freezer. Go back to exercising everyday. Drink your water but don't drink with meals. Follow your old rules!!!! If you must snack, make it highly dense, low reward foods: hb eggs, raw veggies with a bit of Greek yogurt mixed with herbs and must be 100cals or less. Ditch the carbage. Focus on dense very lean proteins. Drop your cals to the level you were at when losing. Consider doing IF with EFs (extended fasts) once you are fat adapted.

Almost 5 weeks out and feeling constantly nauseous
LacyLacy3 replied to iliana00000's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was 3/18 and yes I've been experiencing the same thing. I've started on soft foods and cannot tolerate much. I stick to shakes, creamed soups with milk, yogurt and chicken salad. I vomit almost everything else up. It's really hard to eat anything honestly. I've had nausea lately also, mostly in the morning. My energy is starting to get a little better. I get very dizzy when I stand up and now I'm getting a really bad fluttering in my chest. It has been getting better - very sloooowly though lol. I just keep reminding myself to be patient. -
I’m about 2.5 weeks post op and think I have a stricture. A week before, I could eat a bit of egg or yogurt, take my necessary medication without issue. About 6 days ago, I started vomiting up everything after I tried to eat, it immediately came back up. I now struggle with even liquids and by the end of day, I have the foamies that roll out of me My surgeon is going to do a another scope on Monday to see what’s going on, and possibly an upper GI. My question is, has this happened to you? Have you had a positive outcome? I had the gastric sleeve, not really interested in a modification of surgery Am I in for a long road to recovery and relapse of a stricture. I am regretting this so much

Anyone else grossed out by the taste of these things? My surgery date is May 9th. I started the liquid diet on April 28th. I have not cheated, although I would like a calzone. I’m drinking 3 premier protein shakes, 2 Greek yogurts and all the broth and sugar free popsicles I want. These shakes are just grody. The chocolate tasted like dirt masked by artificial sweetener. The vanilla tastes like vanilla with a strong vitamin after tasted. The banana tastes like the bubble gum ice cream baskin Robbins used to sell back in the early 80’s. I’m totally disappointed in the strawberries and cream. I was hoping it would resemble a McDonald’s strawberry shake.... not even close. 🤢🤢 I’m taking all this in stride and pushing through it. Anyone have any suggestions of a shake that has the nutrients premier protein has and tastes like a nicely charred steak? 😂

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
NEGirl72 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! I just got my approval today (that was quick thanks BCBS of MA) so June 17th is a definite for me!!! I have all of my pre-op and my 2 and 6 week post-op appts scheduled. Now I'm nervous! lol I've prepped a few things too... So far I have: New blender (pricey but does awesome purees and makes soup!), digital scale, 3 cute tops in a 1x (I'm in a 2x now down from a 3x ), Vitamin E oil for scars Amazon shopping list which now I'll buy: kids fork and spoon set, 100 2oz plastic cups w/ lids, 100 4oz plastic cups with lids, Isopure Zero Carb unflavored protein powder (to throw in soups in jello), compartmentalized containers for lunch when I go back to work and an extra blender bottle for work Walmart and grocery store list: Premier Protein shakes (which I already use), Flinstones Complete Chewables, Protein20 drinks (different flavors), herbal teas, sugar free ice pops, sugar free Jello pudding mix (going to make w/ Fairlife milk), sugar free jello, Oikos Zero yogurts, cream soups, broth...etc. I plan on prepping a bunch of 2oz cups w/ yogurt, jello, jello pudding, cottage cheese...etc. I definitely need to get some transition clothes. I got rid of everything smaller sized in my closet last year when I was sick of looking at it (from 12's all the way to 26's). I have nothing smaller than my 28 jeans and a few pairs of 26/28 capris and bermuda shorts. -
Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Frustr8 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And I am reporting, in. Had to postpone until yesterday, had to not see the Head Nurse-Practioner Valerie but Shannon. Valerie also does the entrance visits for new people, they must have a big crop because she had nothing available until July. Shannon is pretty okay, not quite as grounded and sure of herself. Oohed and ahhed about my weight loss. Said my stomach ouch is not inflamed at the endiscopy, the stoma although still very small is patent. That means things should start moving down better. Then we come to my ulcers, they are still there in the jejumen, New theory , they have a narrowed the lumen(width) to such an extent that stuff isn't digesting well until you get to the point where stomach remaining secretions, bile and pancreatic juices get reintroduced downstream. So I will, have another endoscopy late June or into July, if thi,ngs are worse or even the same 8-to-5 chance I will require surgery. Usually by 6-8 months you're healed. And no, they didn't expect it, no way of guessing I will. have this problem. Stay on same level of diet, try to get protein more, vegan/ vegetarian okay if I still am having trouble with Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and most meats. High Protein levels will help me heal, be sure to take all meds and. minerals to keep a healthy basis in case of possible surgery. And she thinks I look great, I think still I look like Road Kill! But maybe I am over- critical with myself. -
Baby food on pureed stage
Briswife15 replied to VeeAurora's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I imagine it tastes pretty nasty. There are plenty of things for adults you can eat on the puree stage, such as refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, cream of rice or wheat, etc. I wouldn't waste my money on baby food, but that's just me!! I love ricotta with marinara sauce. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

slim down1013 replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 10 days out and on a limited diet. Just started grits, yogurt and cottage cheese yesterday. I have not had a full feeling yet with 2 tablespoons. I was hoping to! Liquids are easy and I’m using flint stone chewable vitamins no prob. B12 is under the tongue drops. I am moving normally with minimal pain, waking a lot. Down 15 since surgery. -
April 2019 Surgeries!
SusieQ2019 replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am up and about, trying to get my water and protein in. I am full after 2 spoonfuls of greek plain yogurt with unsweetened apple sauce and a scoop of isopure unsweetened protein powder. I am going to try to go to the gym tomorrow. I am really cold and may invest in a small space heater. I am covered up with 3 blankets. All and all pain is manageable and I am not having any gas pains. Knock on wood. My cat keep trying to lay down on my stomach smh. I am thankful for my sons 20 and 23 yr old. My 9 yr old daughter is to busy playing ROBLOX with her friends. Hope everyone is doing well. -
Hello everyone. I had my VSG surgery 8/17/15. My biggest weight was 227. Day of surgery I was 199. My one year surgery anniversary I was down to 153. I started stalling then. All of a sudden I started to gain the weight back. And now almost four years later, I weigh 213. I’m right back to where I was before surgery. I walk twice a day. Have a shake for breakfast and either a shake for lunch or chobani plain Greek yogurt. Dinner is a small meal. Just chicken with veggies or salad. Night time snack around 8 is a cup of popcorn. That’s all. I’m trying to get my water in. For some reason I cannot get the weight back down. I wish there was something else I can do. Is there such a thing as a second SLEEVE? I need all the advice I can get. Thank you so much for listening to my story. Please help. I’ve been to the nut and she tells me I’m doing everything right. I spoke to my surgeon and he says the same. I see him again in August and I really don’t know what else to do.

Okay so since my pouch isn’t very fond of meat and I don’t feel like fighting her about it I’ve decided to challenge myself to Meatless May. My problem in the past when I tried to switch to vegetarianism was that I planned poorly. This time I chose to prep simple vegetarian and pescatarian meals. I bought groceries to help with my meal prep and for now I’ll use meat substitutes a couple of times a week while gradually trying Whole food recipes to add into my diet. I have a variety of nuts, seeds, nut butter, cheese,Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc to help me get my protein in. Also I’ll still be drinking Premier protein once a day until I get a better blender for protein smoothies (without powder, yuck).

HAPPY MAY Y'ALL!!! I started my goals early yesterday, until I decided that I would try a mango for the first time since surgery and proceeded to...just...throw up. 😵 I have a very picky sleeve (Tiny Tum, like Tiny Tim....get it? My brothers thought it was VERY funny) so that's not unusual, but not exactly the way I wanted to start the 14th month after surgery. lol. Each time I get sick, I go right back to basics. So today it's just protein shakes, jello and MAYBE a yogurt if I feel up to it tomorrow. I try and be gentle on myself because these things happen and the last thing Tiny Tum needs is me shoving 3 oz of chicken down my throat. lol. I also did 15 minutes of yoga, which I got the clear from my physical therapist for just on Friday. I hurt my hip in late March and they said "NO EXERCISE. NO WALKING NO YOGA" So getting back into it, I know I'm not going to be where I was. At least I'm not the 28-year-old doing PT with the old biddies who hurt their hips too, tho. (not that I have anything against old biddies, I self-identify as an old biddy myself. Gimme the housecoats and roller sets.)

Hi everyone I’m six weeks out and definitely try the sugar free jello cold it saves me the first two weeks also I munch on ice then when you do soft foods .. eat mashed potatoes,, cream soups,,pudding ,, zero Greek yogurt ,, cottage cheese when you pass the soft foods and start eating my dr said I could have any fruit in between meals oranges and grapes, watermelon saved my cravings ... good luck

I am in the same boat as you are. you have no idea how much I can't wait for mashed potatoes when I can start the very soft foods next week. I am already thinking about what I will have when I can start real food.... Grocery shopping yesterday was hell, the smell of that fried chicken in the deli.. but I was good, got soup, yogurt, jello and milk.

I am home resting. First day was a lot of pain but it is now manageable. I have 6 incision 4 small ones and 2 large one. Looks like the made the incision where I had my gallbladder removed. I am onto pureed, but 2 spoonfuls of yogurt fills me up. I am sipping water, everything else taste like syrup. No head hunger and I am uninterested in eating. The team at Mt. Sinai hospital NYC was absolutely amazing.

I'm almost 10 months out. Besides having berries in my yogurt on occasion, I really don't eat fruit anymore. Technically you can, but I'd rather avoid all the sugar and focus on getting in my protein

Unflavored protein powder - mix with what?
nomorefattypatty replied to rs's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You can mix it in coffee, yogurt, cottage cheese with peaches, milk, ice cream, juice and anything you eat or drink almost. The only real way to find out what you like or dont is to simply try it. Dont be afraid to try different ways to experiment with protein powder. The worse thing that can happen is you waste a scoop or so. Try anything you can to get your protein in to keep healthy. 1/2 the person I used to be
Frustr8 replied to FancyChristine15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hoping and praying I can duplicate this . And the last 2 nights I have been vomiting, and when I go for checkups they keep noting I am doing well for ____months.I am not, stop noting pacifing things. This not the way things are supposed to be, will I have to scream today. to get someone to listen? Have an appointment at 3pm today, May be Only with Nurse Practioner Valerie, no sign of my surgeon, well having a mini-pity party at this second. Maybe I'll never see him again unless I need surgery again. Perhaps I get only a nurse because my case is BORING? Well last weight was 224 on Thursday, I won't make 1/2 until I make goal, maybe 50 pounds to go. I was literally twice as big as I should be when I set out on the journey, lost about 125 since then, 95 or 96 pounds since surgery date 8 months ago, those sound fine except this AM my baby tummy is SORE. They told me at last EGJ things are healing well from what could be visualized, not so certain in my 💔of. ❤s. I have taken enough Carafate to build a patio, enough PPI to last until I'm 80, still do best. with protein shakes, RTF or powder reconstituted, soups with minimal or no texture to them, applesauce, occasional mashed up fruit or veggies, am I on a Mechanical soft died the rest of my life? In theory I should be on Stage 4 or at least Stage 3, but when I venture towards such, up things come! Still unable to handle banana, peanut butter, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. eggs, or meat. Ground up?,Can't even handle ham salad with nothing added like pickle relish, celery or even diet mayo. So many abortive trials I am also sickened by the thought of trying once more. Oh I do take all my vitamins, minerals, all the things PCP and Bariatric staff think I need, maybe that's what keeps me alive because a varied diet sure isn't. It is fatigue- ing to throw a tantrum but perhaps it's what I need to have someone listen for once! I want my joy back , I want my digestion back, I want to feel better and this blase treatment isn't making it for ME. -
Soon, you will gradually get to have real food and will feel better. I know how hard it is. My hunger came back day five and broth really helped to fill the hole in my stomach. Full liquids and I was eating yogurt and that helped. Good luck!

April 2019 Surgeries!
Jennifer22672 replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to all those still having surgery this month. I hope everything goes well. To all those who have already had surgery, how are things going? I had my bypass on April 11th. At my 2-week follow-up appointment last week, I was down 10.5 pounds. My doctor said I was on track, they hope to see a 10% loss of excess weight at that first appointment. I was at 14%. I weighed this morning and I have lost 4 more pounds since then. So, while I’m not losing a huge amount, I am very glad to see the scale going in the correct direction. 👍🏻 I am eating soft foods (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese, eggs, tuna, etc). I am a pescatarian (no meat except seafood) so I am struggling to find a variety of protein choices. I am not in any pain and my energy level is almost back to normal. My most annoying problem (and I never thought I would have this problem!) is not wanting to eat at all. I know I have to have protein, but it is hard to force myself to eat sometimes. It is an odd feeling. I am struggling with not wanting any food. I get my 64 oz liquids in easily, though. -
I would love to join this but I am due for surgery on the 6th for my bypass. I am right now on a liquid diet. So there is no food besides the soups, protein shakes, sf puddings, sf jello, and greek yogurt going in right now. I just want to get past my surgery and heal completely before the beach days with my sons. I want to be able to get in that ocean water as well

I eat yogurt daily and it regulates my bowel movement. If I'm feeling constipated, I double my daily yogurt intake. I remembered I was constipated on the first week though. The doctor advised me to buy Dulcolax. It does get better though.
