    Surgery Approved!!

good for you.....welcome to the loser's bench, you will love your new journey to weight loss!!! wish you the best of luck.
  2. I loss 20lbs in two weeks. Does that weight loss stay continually while I'm doing only liquids? For instance I'm on protein for 6wks. Will I lose 60 lbs? If I continue liquid for 8wks will I lose 80 and so on?
  3. Hmmm ... liquid diet getting 60-70 g of Protein but not doing shakes ... interesting. I would love to know what their plan is. For me, it was very tough and I fell short daily getting my protein in and I did use protein shakes. I agree, the first few weeks not meeting goal didn't cause me to suffer, but I do know I have lost A LOT of muscle mass which I'm sure has to do lowering my overall protein intake. Why are they anti-protein and what is their plan to get you protein in the early days? Unless they are OK with your body feeding off of itself for the protein. Sure, you'd have more weight loss and perhaps that is all they care about. Ask questions. Make them give you answers you understand. Just because someone has a "Dr" in front of their name, doesn't always mean they know what they are talking about or aren't looking out for their own best interest.
  4. Hi! I had LapBand sugery in 2010 at the age of 51. I had prior health issues such as SIJ arthritis, & back surgery (2008). Before my LapBand surgery, I took myself off my presciption anti-inflammatory as directed. I lost around 30 lbs. in 4 months while going to the gym & walking on the treadmill at least 4 x per week. When my anti-inflammatory med finally left my system, my knees started KILLING me! I went to a Osteo surgeon who tried shots; found a torn miniscus and worn joints, but who didn't want to do sugery. Well, of course my weight loss journey not only stalled, I gained most of the weight back. I could barely go up & down my stairs at home, it was so bad. I got back on my presciption anti-inflammatory and am doing much better. I contacted my Bariatric surgeon and had a consult wih him yesterday. Heres the deal, I want the LapBand out so I can take stronger meds than acetametaphine for my pain. He and I are now talking LapSleeve. Has anyone else out there gone from a LapBand to a Sleeve? If so, are you happy you did? My doc did a flueroscopy and it looks like I have a hernia ; he said my band looks "flat". I'm praying my insurance will cover this re-do. I was self-pay for the band but no way I can pay for a removal & sleeve. Thanks to anyone who can respond to my question of LapBand to Sleeve.

  6. Here is a video of the Sleeve operation. It almost looks like a chicken breast being cut in half. There is very little blood loss.

    Newbie here

With Lapband -you can eat ice cream physically - super easy to get down -- but it could hinder weight loss due to high calories and being liquid your newly modified pouch really doesn't limit quanity -- (same with alcohol - liquid high calories) I eat IC sometimes - not daily -- just have to be accountable for it - or anything I place in my mouth. You will do great - you will need to make sure to get 3 meals in a day -- it increases your metabolism -- otherwise your body thinks it is starvation mode - I am sure you heard all this before. Journal your food daily and share with nutritionist! 8. I have been required by my insurance to participate in a 3 month supervised weight loss plan prior to submitting a request for weight loss surgery. I weighed in on November 07, 2013 and I have to do my final weigh in on December 19, 2013 prior to my doctor submitting a claim to my insurance, blue cross blue shield federal plan. My question is this, I believe I have gained about 4 pounds since my last weigh in and the whole time I have been on the diet I have lost. I am guessing I did not do as good as I thought throught the holidays. Has anyone ever gained weight in the supervised diet with blue cross blue shield federal and got denied or approved. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Gym Scam!

Nothing to suck up, I promise only. Handful of people at the gym have no insecurities, partly bodybuilders and cross fit addicts, but if you go to the right gym, you can and will be comfortable right away, I don't know where your from but I go to Freedom Fitness and they have separate areas for males and females, I'm actually very proud to go since people notice my weight loss and muscle gain, I have a hot wife so people know I'm not there to pick up anyone, you will be ok, it's about you not others!!!!!!!! I know you can do this, I can do anything after the gastric surgery, that was the hardest.

Congrats on your loss and new found out look towards food. Sounds like you are strong and in for the long haul! Good for you! I dream of the day I can eat eggs haha not too much longer for me and I too am loving this new found "eat a pudding and im content for 3 hrs". I'm 11 days post-op. I wish I liked protein drinks...so far everything I try I really do not care for. Tomorrow Im picking up so Slim Fast Protein drinks, I hear good things about them. Im feeling the lack of protein tonight. Keeep on rockin that band you are doing awesome =)
  11. This is my 6 week anniversary with the band. Initially my BMI was 33. I quickly lost 14lb. but since my 1st fill 2 weeks ago-no loss at all. I have kept my calorie intake at 1000 cal. and I excercise everyday for 45 min. I feel great and am not hungry Should I eat less or am I eating to little.
  12. So 4-1/2 years ago, I had the sleeve. Within 3 months, I dropped 60 of the 100 pounds I wanted to lose. I was off all blood pressure meds (and still am). Within the year following my sleeve, I developed abdominal hernias that my bariatric surgeon repaired. At that point, my weight loss stopped and I never reached "goal". Also at the time, I was working a 12 hour, physically demanding (not with heavy lifting but with a lot of walking), night shift 7p-730a which was one of my first saboteurs to my weight loss success -- I wasn't getting enough sleep. I also didn't exercise at all because of my physically demanding job. I decided to leave my night shift job, which I loved very much, for a "day job" but there was a 1 hour commute each way to this job. Exercising was now an even bigger challenge, but I got a gym membership near my home and I would drive my hour commute to the gym, work out and by the time I got home it was 8 p.m. 3 nights a week. Then I was eating dinner late. Enter REFLUX. I started with 20 mg of omeprazole, which didn't quite do the trick with my symptoms. Moving on to 40 mg was better but as time went on even the 40 mg of omeprazole wasn't cutting it so I supplemented with OTC omeprazole 20 mg for a total of 60 mg a day. That's where I am now. A recent EGD revealed I have yet another hernia. Lessons Learned: 1) Lifestyle matters. Prepare a lifestyle to accommodate your surgery so that you can take care of you. I didn't do this. I tried to be superwoman. I am humbled. 2) Follow up with your doctor's office more frequently than your program requires. Accountability is everything. Don't wander off and think you don't need follow up because you most certainly do. 3) Bloodwork. I can't emphasize this enough. I always keep my bloodwork in check -- I didn't want to lose my hair -- and I didn't. 4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep needs to be as necessary as water to your well being. With these lessons learned, I will be getting the Roux-en-Y revision surgery to end my GERD and hopefully put me back on track with the 70 pounds I want to lose. I have created a lifestyle now that allows me to take care of me. I have a gym membership that includes a pool. I work a day job that allows me to work at home one day a week. I finally realized that being good to me is not a selfish thing, but a necessary thing.

    Why Sugar Free?

Cynthia - I don't think sugar damaged the band. For me it's not about the calories in sugar. I can cut calories elsewhere but if I eat sugar on any kind of regular basis I will gain weight. A treat once in a while I think is just fine but if you eat enough if it every day I think it could hinder your weight loss. One of the more veteran banders will be posting soon with more concrete explanations and what works for them I'm sure.

    Starving

It sounds like you dont have any restriction yet. It is possible for the fill to have not "kicked in" yet. Some people say they can't feel a difference until after a week. Until you get restriction, you won't have any real benefit from your band, and any weight loss you experience will come from a lot of work on your part. I am sorry you are hungry all of the time. That really sucks. If after a week, you still are starving, call your surgeon and see if he/she will agree to do another fill. Many people don't feel any real restriction until their third or fourth fill. Also, ask if you are supposed to follow any certain guidelines after a fill. Many doctors require liquids after the fill for a day or two. Mine doesn't, but I always read people talking about the liquids after a fill.
  15. Love this article: Water park with my kids going down water slides wearing a bikini without even wrapping a towel around me. But I see candid pictures and critique the "softness" that almost six weeks of no running and no yoga has wrought. Just got clearance to exercise again, hooray! But taking care to do it for the love of the activity and the health and fitness it brings rather than to "fix" my body. Anyhow, I needed this read today, which appeared on my Facebook timeline because one of my favorite yoga instructors, the one whose strength truly turned me onto yoga. I thought someone else might need the read too.

    HELP! HELP!

No, I just eat unprocessed meat (no jerky, bacon, sausage, or deli/lunch meat), eggs, and green veggies for five days. Much more satisfying and healthier (IMO) than trying to re-create your post-op stomach. Exercise is not terribly important for weight loss. Don't focus on that, instead focus very very hard on what you are eating and exactly how many calories you are taking in each day. Stop eating high carb and high sugar foods -- you need to do this or you will keep craving them. Don't drink your calories. Stay on top of your intake and you will lose weight. Good luck!

    After lapband

From the album: Skinny Me and my hubby

I got extensions because I had lost so much hair and I was so self conscience of my thinning hair and bald spots.

#1 - Don't waste time beating up on yourself. You have MAINTAINED a loss of 111 pounds. #2 - Get back to basics, log all your food, measure your water, 30-30-30, protein then veggies, then fruit, then carbs #3 - Take a break from processed foods and watch things that trigger you to overeat. For me, carbs make me crave more (and stupider choice) carbs. But you know what sets you off. #4 - No alcohol or sweet drinks It's really about getting back to what worked in the first place. I'm no expert on getting back on the wagon after surgery, but I've failed enough diet plans over the last 45 years to know what the reset button looks like. And, definitely, ask for support when you need it!

  20. Hey guys! So I'm almost 3 weeks out and was doing great with my weight loss. At 2 weeks I was down 17 lbs. Then I got extremely sick. Horrible back pain and a UTI. Besides the horrible pain, the UTI ha prevented me from urinating and haven't loss any weight. I'm so bummed because I was doing so good. I am on antibiotics (shots and crushed pills) but I can hardly keep down the pills. Anyone have any advice, suggestions, motivation?
  21. Hello all, My surgery date was January 6, and I am down 53 lbs. I can fit into some size 8 pants, but mostly 10s, and I am wearing a SMALL top! That makes me so happy. I still can't believe this is where I am. The weight loss has definitely slowed down but it is still coming off and that's what counts! Like someone else mentioned, I think it is interesting that we are all basically at the same amount lost after 5 months.

    5 weeks out

Feel great about it! Everyone loses at a different pace. The minute you start comparing your loss to those of others you will come out on the short end of the stick. Don't go there, it's destructive to your mental attitude. As long as you are following your surgeons and NUT plan, and I'm sure you are especially this early out, your body won't have a choice. It will come off. It didn't get put on in a month and it won't come off in a month. People tend to drop large amounts more rapidly when there is higher BMI. Slower, the lower your BMI is. Celebrate that you have taken this amazing step toward your health and well being and let your body do the losing. Hang in there, it will get better and better each week and month.

    5 weeks out

Think of it this way. Would you have lost 12 pounds in one month without the sleeve? It's a loss whether 12 or 30, it's better than nothing or gaining. Don't compare your loss to others. That will just frustrate you. We're all different. Hang in there! You're doing great!
